How to fill the biodiversity data gap:Is it better to invest in fieldwork or curation?

Data gaps and biases are two important issues that affect the quality of biodiversity information and downstream *** how best to fill existing gaps and account for biases is necessary to improve our current information most *** current main approaches for obtaining and improving data include(1)curation of biological collections,and(2)***,the comparative effectiveness of these approaches in improving biodiversity data remains little *** used the Flora de Bogota project to study the magnitude of change in species richness,spatial coverage,and sample coverage of plant records based on curation versus *** process of curation resulted in a decrease in species richness(synonym and error removal),but it significantly increased the number of records per *** contributed to a slight increase in species richness,via accumulation of new ***,curation led to increases in spatial coverage,species observed by locality,the number of plant records by species,and localities by species compared to ***,curationwas more efficient in producing new information compared to fieldwork,mainly because of the large number of records available in *** recommend intensive curatorial work as the first step in increasing biodiversity data quality and quantity,to identify bias and gaps at the regional scale that can then be targeted with *** stepwise strategy would enable fieldwork to be planned more costeffectively given the limited resources for biodiversity exploration and characterization.

Non-coding RNAs in exercise immunology:A systematic review

Liver cancer,encompassing both primary and secondary forms,presents a formidable global health *** to the GLOBOCAN 2020 database,liver cancer ranks as the sixth most common cancer globally in terms of incidence,yet it stands as the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide(1).By 2040,liver cancer cases and deaths are expected to rise by 55.0%and 56.4%,respectively(2).The geographical distribution of incidence and mortality rates for these cancers varies,with the highest occurrence noted in Eastern Asia,Northern Africa,and South-Eastern Asia(2).This variation arises from a complex interplay of factors,encompassing sociodemographic aspects like age and gender,environmental exposures to viruses such as hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV),and cultural habits including alcohol consumption(3,4).

A global analysis of the introduction pathways and characteristics associated with non-native fish species introduction, establishment, and impacts

Background The invasion success of introduced freshwater fishes is influenced by many factors, including ecological, species, and socioeconomic characteristics. Most studies that document the importance of these characteristics are conducted at local scales and/or focus on a single step of the invasion process. In this study, we aim to determine the species characteristics, ecological characteristics, and socioeconomic characteristics of non-native freshwater fish invasions. Our assessment was done at the global scale and considers all three steps of the invasion(i.e., introduction, establishment, and impact). For this purpose, we applied generalized linear models to 20 variables collected for 307 non-native species and modeled them as a function of ecological characteristics(i.e., environmental features), species traits(i.e., functional and morphological), and socioeconomic characteristics(i.e., human use and introduction pathways). We considered the number of countries in which each species was introduced, established, or had ecological impacts as a proxy of invasion step success. We also explored the specifics of species introduced through the aquaculture and the ornamental fish trade *** We found that non-native freshwater fishes with broad diets, high parental care, and multiple introduction pathways are the most widely introduced and established worldwide. The number of countries with impacts reported was best explained by the type of introduction pathway(i.e., aquaculture or fisheries). Moreover, among non-native species introduced through aquaculture, those belonging to Cypriniformes and having broad diets were the most widely introduced and established species. Rheological properties of rare earth minerals flotation pulp in the presence of anions

Water quality has been found to significantly influence the flotation operations due to the alteration of surface properties of *** effect of cations on the flotation of RE minerals has been studied,however,there are still very limited information regarding the effect of *** present study examined the impact of specific anions such as Cl-,SO42-,and HCO3-on the flotation performance of rare earth（RE） *** study integrates flotation experiments,rheology measurements,entrainment experiments,zeta potential measurements and settling *** is observed that an increase in the concentration of these anions lead to a decrease in the recovery of RE minerals and an increase in the recovery of FeO minerals and thus negatively affecting flotation *** adverse effect is most pronounced with Cl-and least noticeable with HCO3-.An increase in the non-selective entrainment of gangue minerals is observed when the flotation pulp has higher *** reduction in the zeta potential of fine particles in the presence of these results in a higher pulp viscosity due to increased attractive forces between *** findings were verified by settling experiments and calculations based on the DLVO theory.

Creation of stable intrinsically anisotropic self-bound states with embedded vorticity is a challenging ***,no such states in Bose−Einstein condensates(BECs)or other physical settings were *** BEC suggests a unique possibility to predict stable two dimensional anisotropic vortex quantum droplets(2D-AVQDs).We demonstrate that they can be created with the vortex axis oriented perpendicular to the polarization of *** stability area and characteristics of the 2D-AVQDs in the parameter space are revealed by means of analytical and numerical ***,the rotation of the polarizing magnetic field is considered,and the largest angular velocities,up to which spinning 2D-AVQDs can follow the rotation in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions,are *** between moving 2D-AVQDs are studied too,demonstrating formation of bound states with a vortex−antivortex−vortex structure.A stability domain for such stationary bound states is *** dipolar states,that can be readily implemented by means of phase imprinting,quickly transform into robust 2D-AVQDs,which suggests a straightforward possibility for the creation of these states in the experiment.

The combined petrographic,petrological,geochemical and geochronological study of the Neoproterozoic gneisses of the Sarychabyn and Baskan complexes of the Junggar Alataw of South Kazakhstan elucidate the Precambrian tectonic evolution of the Aktau–Yili *** is one of the largest Precambrian crustal blocks in the western Central Asian orogenic *** U-Pb single-grain zircon ages indicate that granite-gneisses formed from the same source and crystallised in the early Neoproterozoic ca.930–920 *** chemical composition of gneisses corresponds to A2-type *** whole-rock Nd isotopic characteristics(εNd(t)=−4.9 to−1.0 and TNd(DM-2st)=1.9 to 1.7 Ga)indicate the involvement of Paleoproterozoic crustal rocks in magma *** Neoproterozoic ca.930–920 Ma A-type granitoids in the Aktau–Yili terrane of South and Central Kazakhstan might reflect within-plate magmatism adjacent to the collisional belt or a local extension setting in back-arc areas of the continental arc.
