Public health aspects of visceral leishmaniasis in Montenegro

Leishmaniasis belongs to the parasitic communicable zoo noses, caused by members of Leishmania species. The infected phlebotomies sand fly carries the parasites, which cause the different forms of disease. Retrospective/prospective review of records for documented cases of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in period from 1992 to 2012 in Montenegro shows 83 diagnostic cases, and 1 (1.20%) case with dermal leichmaniasis. with 3 (3.61%) deaths cases. Analyses of age show: 36 (43.37%) children and 47 (56.63%) adults. Examinations are based on epidemiological, clinical, hematological, patohystological and serological investigations. Infection can be sub-clinically or clinically manifested with acute, sub-acute, and chronic type. Incubation in clinically manifested infections ranges from several weeks to several months. In our study, the prevalence of general infective syndrome is registered in all of 83 manifested cases (100%). Enlarged spleen in 79 (95.18%) cases, enlarged liver in 37 (44.57%) cases, anemia in 49 (59.04%) cases, pancytopenia in 32 (38.55%) cases, and increased activity of serum aminotransferases in 37 (44.57%) cases. The diagnosis was confirmed by an analysis of bone marrow biopsy material by direct microscopy of serial sections colored by Romanowski and Giemsa s staining, and by immune-biochemical methods. Serological diagnostic is confirmed by using agglutination test. In Montenegro (in humans and dogs) two types of leishmania (L) (L. donovani, L. infantum were presented). As to therapy treatment, the common treating is with antimony drugs: glucantime is relatively satisfactory for a long time. During 2008 there were registered cases not responding to the therapy and those were manifested with relapses after therapy. In the first line of therapy, we used meglumine antimony (Glucantime) in 78 (93.97%) patients. Resistence developed in 7 (8.97%) during treatment, and relapse occurred in 5 (6.41%) patients. Bartonellosis has emerging zoonoses of the Vector Borne Diseases (VBD) complex. Progress in evolution and changes of causer, enabled the expansion, and increased number of clinically manifest forms of disease appearance of severe disseminated forms of infections and co-infections in humans, difficult for diagnosis, therapy and prognosis. The Bartonellosis may have a benign and self-limiting evolution in a host, or potentially fatal infections. Etiological agents can provoke a granulomatous or an angioproliferative histology damages. In severely immunodeficient cases (pulmonary tuberculosis, carcinomatosis, HIV infection, patients who underwent organ transplantation etc.), Bartonella infections can be difficult and often with unpredictable course of the fatal prognosis. Present the large specter of clinical manifestations: prolonged fever, erythema nodosum like syndrome, and the other skin manifestations, sub-acute bacterial endocarditis, difficult pulmonary disturbances, bacillary angiomatosis (BA) and hepatic peliosis (HP), bacteriemia or a combination of these. In period 2007-2015 on Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Podgorica, 25 cases with Bartonella infection were diagnosed. In total sample, the most frequent were diagnosed CSD in 19 cases. During 2015 in two cases with HIV/AIDS infection, BA was diagnosed, and in four cases PH was diagnosed.

In urban settings, fluctuating traffic conditions and closely spaced signalized intersections lead to frequent emergency acceleration, deceleration, and idling in vehicles. These maneuvers contribute to elevated energy use and emissions. Advances in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication technologies allow autonomous vehicles (AVs) to perceive signals over long distances and coordinate with other vehicles, thereby mitigating environmentally harmful maneuvers. This paper introduces a data-driven algorithm for rolling eco-speed optimization in AVs aimed at enhancing vehicle operation. The algorithm integrates a deep belief network with a back propagation neural network to formulate a traffic state perception mechanism for predicting feasible speed ranges. Fuel consumption data from the Argonne National Laboratory in the United States serves as the basis for establishing the quantitative correlation between the fuel consumption rate and speed. A spatiotemporal network is subsequently developed to achieve eco-speed optimization for AVs within the projected speed limits. The proposed algorithm results in a 12.2% reduction in energy consumption relative to standard driving practices, without a significant extension in travel time.

Conservation of genetic diversity of forest tree species represents the foundation for sustainable forest management and preservation of natural structure of forest stands in Croatia. Diversity of geographical regions in Croatia has generated various ecological conditions and thus diverse forest communities which are directly affected by habitat degradation, various anthropogenic effects like pollution of air and water, excessive use of certain more valuable species of forest trees and by the increasing impact of global climatic changes. The need for conservation of genetic diversity is related to the species pertaining to social broadleaves—the prevailing species in terms of economic utilization as Pedunculate Oak (Quercus robur), Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea) and Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica). Among the conifers Silver Fir (Abies alba) is the most endangered species, with more than 70% of its population being seriously damaged. Other native coniferous species must be preserved from a decrease in genetic diversity as well. Conservation of the noble broadleaves should encompass a larger number of species from various genera (Fraxinus, Alnus, Ulmus, Prunus, Juglans, Castanea, Sorbus, Acer, Malus, Pyrus, Tilia). These are partially endangered because of their exposure to different pests and diseases, as well as by permanent exploitation due to their technical value. Changes in hydrological conditions of rivers have led difficulties in regeneration of the riparian forests and decreased the genetic variability of European Black and White Poplar in their habitats (Populus nigra, P. alba). In Croatia’s Adriatic coastal areas, there is a need for conservation of genetic resources of Dalmatian Black Pine (P. nigra ssp. dalmatica) and Mediterranean Oaks (Quercus ilex, Quercus pubescens).
