Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease are three distinct neurological disorders that share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includes the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an endogenous microtubule-associated protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfolding and subsequent accumulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfolded proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease and can lead to downstream neuroinflammatory processes, including assembly and activation of the inflammasome complex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascade of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-induced cell death and inflammation mediated by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOD-like receptor protein 3, has been proposed to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged NOD-like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau accumulation and spreading. This review begins by describing the epidemiology and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overriding theme and discuss the role of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau deposits and how such tauopathic entities spread throughout the brain. We then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease as inflammasomedependent pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we discuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and ultimately minimize long-term neurological decline.

An Investigation into the Adhesion Strength of Diamond Like carbon Multilayer coating (DLc/TiN/Ti/cu/Ni)

Advancement in vacuum technologies and vapor deposition processes during last decades has led to the introduction of many modern coatings on metal cutting tools. Even in such an advanced vacuum coating techniques, the failure is not due to the wear of the coating but rather due to the lack of coating adhesion to the substrate. In this work, the coating adhesion test results were performed which is based on the Rockwell indentation tests. This coating adhesion tests were performed as per VDI standards 3198, 1991 for d.c. magnetron sputter deposition of diamond like carbon multilayer coating (DLc / TiN/ Ti / cu / Ni) on tool substrate. Multilayer coating was deposited on tool substrates at different sputtering parameters/conditions such as power density, partial pressure, substrate temperature and reactive gases. The coated multilayer films were characterized by experimental techniques such as X-ray diffractometer which measures the material deposited, micro Raman spectroscopy and TEM to check DLc, Rockwell indentation to examine adhesion strength, optical profilometer to measure thickness of coating. Ni increases the cu adhesion on tool substrate. cu accommodates the shear stress induced by the films / substrate and the mismatch in thermal expansion coefficient, while Ti and TiN promote better DLc bonding. As the target power was increased the adhesion strength, micro hardness and deposition rate were observed to improve. Increase in target power and substrate temperature enhances adhesion strength. Proper substrate preparation and sequence of cleaning processes are the crucial factors for the enhancement of adhesion strength. The sputter deposition conditions for the above mentioned multilayer coatings are identified in this work to get improved quality with particular reference to adhesion and surface finish.

A study was undertaken to collect and identify saprobic fungi associated with Musa spp.(banana)from Taiwan(china),and *** were collected during the dry season and their morpho-molecular relationships were *** brown pleosporalean hyphomycetous taxa in Periconiaceae and Torulaceae *** cortaderiae,***,Torula chromolaenae,***,and *** were identified for the first time from Musa spp.(Musaceae).Phylogenetic analyses of a combined SSU,LSU,ITS,RPB2 and TEF DNA sequence dataset further justified the taxonomic placements of these five taxa in the above mentioned *** delonicis is reported for the first time on a monocotyledonous host and *** is the first geographical record from Taiwan(china).

Nematodes play an important role in ecosystems;however,very little is known about their assembly processes and the factors influencing *** studied nematode communities in bulk soils from three Asian mountain ecosystems to determine the assembly processes of free-living nematode metacommunities and their driving *** each mountain,elevations span a range of climatic conditions with the potential to reveal assembly processes that predominate across multiple biomes.A phylogenetic null modeling framework was used to analyze 18S rRNA gene amplicons to quantify various assembly *** found that phylogenetic turnover between nematode communities on all mountains was dominated by stochastic processes,with“undominated processes”being the most predominant stochastic *** has a significant impact on the relative importance of deterministic and stochastic processes.A variety of climatic and edaphic variables significantly influenced the variations in community assembly processes with elevation,even though their impacts were not consistent between the ***,our results indicate that free-living nematode metacommunities in a wide range of environments are largely structured by stochastic processes rather than by niche-based deterministic processes,suggesting that metacommunities of soil free-living nematodes may respond to climate change in a largely unpredictable way.

Background:Discordance in hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)staging between pre-transplant imaging and explant pathology is associated with an increased risk of recurrence and *** aim was to evaluate variables that predicted concordance/discordance in the era of new generation locoregional therapies(LRT)and improved radiologic technology in ***:A single-center retrospective study was performed on patients who received a liver transplant for Hcc between ***-and post-LT variables,including type of LRT,downstaging(DS),transplant time period,and radiologic response to LRT,were analyzed for concordance/***-Meier analysis was used to assess post-LT ***:Of 146 patients transplanted within Milan criteria(Mc),discordance rates(understaged)were 45%.Discordance was associated with≥3 Hcc lesions at diagnosis but not newer generation LRT(transarterial radioembolization/stereotactic body radiation therapy),traditional LRT or *** differences in discordance were seen between transplant periods(2008-2013 vs.2014-2019),but those within Mc in the earlier period had higher concordance rates.A trend was observed between DS and ***:Hcc stage discordance remains common and poorly *** was associated with three or more Hcc lesions at the time of *** within Mc transplanted between 2008-2013 was associated with concordance,while a trend was noted between DS and *** other pre-or post-LT variables predicted discordance/*** was associated with decreased survival.

chronic wounds affect over 6.5 million Americans and are notoriously difficult to *** oxygenation of the wound bed is one of the most critical and treatable wound management factors,but existing oxygenation systems do not enable concurrent measurement and delivery of oxygen in a convenient wearable ***,we developed a low-cost alternative for continuous O 2 delivery and sensing comprising of an inexpensive,paper-based,biocompatible,flexible platform for locally generating and measuring oxygen in a wound *** platform takes advantage of recent developments in the fabrication of flexible microsystems including the incorporation of paper as a substrate and the use of a scalable manufacturing technology,inkjet ***,we demonstrate the functionality of the oxygenation patch,capable of increasing oxygen concentration in a gel substrate by 13%(5ppm)in *** platform is able to sense oxygen in a range of 5–26 *** vivo studies demonstrate the biocompatibility of the patch and its ability to double or triple the oxygen level in the wound bed to clinically relevant levels.
