Shenyi Capsule Prolongs Postoperative Survival of Patients with Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer: A Multicenter, Randomized, Controlled Trial

Objective:The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the postsurgical administration of Shenyi capsules on the outcome and overall survival of patients with nonsmall cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Materials and Methods:This was a multicenter,randomized,placebo-controlled,double-blind clinical *** with stages I–IIIA NSCLC were randomized to Shenyi or placebo groups(treatment duration:6 months)and followed up for 10 ***-year,2-year,5-year,and 10-year survival rates and survival times were ***,quality of life,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome,and recurrence were ***:A total of 361 patients(treatment group,n=185;placebo group,n=176)were randomized and followed up for 10 *** two groups had similar baseline demographic and clinical *** all 361 patients,the treatment group had significantly longer median survival(31 months,respectively)than the placebo group(22.3 months,P<0.01).In stage II or III patients,recurrence and metastasis rates in the treatment group were lower than those in the placebo group(P<0.05).The treatment group also had significantly longer 1-year and 2-year survival rates based on the full analysis set and per-protocol set;however,there was no statistically significant difference in the 5-year and 10-year survival rates(P<0.01 for all comparisons).Multivariate analysis of variance showed that the interaction between stage and age had a significant impact on overall survival(P<0.05).Compared with the placebo group,the treatment group showed a significant decrease in TCM syndrome(P<0.01)and a significant increase in the Karnofsky Performance Score(P<0.01)and body weight(P<0.05).Conclusions:Adjunctive therapy with Shenyi capsules significantly prolonged the 1-year and 2-year survival rates after surgery and improved the quality of ***,none of the patients experienced severe adverse *** results suggest that Shenyi capsules may have clinical applications

Biomass carbon stocks in China's forests between 2000 and 2050:A prediction based on forest biomass-age relationships

China's forests are characterized by young forest age,low carbon density and a large area of planted forests,and thus have high potential to act as carbon sinks in the *** China's national forest inventory data during 1994-1998 and 1999-2003,and direct field measurements,we investigated the relationships between forest biomass density and forest age for 36 major forest *** approaches and the predicted future forest area from the national forestry development plan were applied to estimate the potential of forest biomass carbon storage in China during *** an assumption of continuous natural forest growth,China's existing forest biomass carbon(C) stock would increase from 5.86 Pg C(1 Pg=1015 g) in 1999-2003 to 10.23 Pg C in 2050,resulting in a total increase of 4.37 Pg *** planted forests through afforestation and reforestation will sequestrate an additional 2.86 Pg C in ***,China's forests will potentially act as a carbon sink for 7.23 Pg C during the period 2000-2050,with an average carbon sink of 0.14 Pg C *** suggests that China's forests will be a significant carbon sink in the next 50 years.

Clinical and experimental studies on stomach carcinoma treated with Yangwei Kangliu granules

IM To study the anticancer mechanism of Yangwei Kangliu (YWKL) granules from the viewpoint of red blood cell (RBC) immunity and the relationship between the red blood cell immunity and T lymphocyte immunity.METHODS We treated advanced gastric carcinoma by combination of YWKL granules and chemotherapy (n=50). Before treatment and after one course treatment, blood samples from vein were obtained, the rosette rate of c3b receptor (RBCC3bRR), tumor and red cell (RRTR) and RBC immune complex (RBCICR) were measured by counting the rosette formed by sensitivated yeast or tumor cell or unsentivated yeast adhering blood cell under microscopy. The T lymphocyte subset was observed by the method of APAAP. Chemotherapy alone was used as controls (n=20). In addition, the dynamic changes of RBCC3bRR, RRTR and RBCICR of mice with tumor after treated by YWKL granules (n=30) were observed. The chemotherapy (n=30) and water (n=30) were used as controls.RESULT Clinical therapeutic effect of combination of YWKL granules and chemotherapy (the treatment group) was markedly superior to that of chemotherapy alone (the control group) (P<001). In the treatment group, the rosette rate of c3b receptor (RBCC3bRR) and the rosette rate of tumor and red cell (RRTR) were significantly increased (P<001) after treatment, the rate of RBC immune complex (RBCICR) was markedly decreased (P<001), and the ratio of CD4 to CD8 was obviously elevated (P<001). CD8 was much lower (P<001), and the ratio of CD4 to CD8 was much higher (P<001), than the control group. The RRTR rate was positively correlated with the ratio of CD4 to CD8. An Experimental Study on the Phenomena inside the Burning Aviation Kerosene Droplet

The effect of the ratio of standardized ileal digestible lysine to metabolizable energy on growth performance,blood metabolites and hormones of lactating sows

A total of 335 lactating sows （Landrace x Large White） were used in two experiments to determine the optimum ratio of standardized ileal digestible lysine （SID-Lys） to metabolizable energy （ME） for mixed parity sows during lactation. In Exp. 1, 185 sows （weighing an average of 256.2 ± 6.5 kg and having an average parity of 3.4 ± 0.3） were allocated to one of six experimental diets in a completely randomized block design within parity groups （1, 2, and 3＋）. The experimental diets were formulated to contain 3.06, 3.16, 3.20, 3.25, 3.30 or 3.40 Mcal/kg of ME and each diet was fed to the sows throughout a 28 day lactation. All diets provided a similar SID-lysine level （0.86%）. As a result, the diets provided a SID-Lys：ME ratio of 2.81, 2.72, 2.69, 2.65, 2.61 or 2.53 g/Mcal ME. Sow feed intake was significantly （P 〈 0.01） affected by the energy content of the diet as well as by sow parity. Using regression analysis, feed intake was shown to be maximized at 3.25, 3.21, 3.21 and 3.21 Mcal/kg of ME for parity 1, 2, 3＋ sows and the entire cohort of sows respectively （quadratic; P 〈 0.01）. In addition, the result of feed intake can be expressed as 2.65, 2.69, 2.69 and 2.68 g/Mcal based on analysis of SID-Lys：ME ratio. Litter weight gain was affected by dietary treatment for parity 3＋ sows and the entire cohort （P 〈 0.01）. Based on regression analysis, litter weight gain was maximized at 3.25 and 3.24 Mcal/kg of ME for parity 3＋（quadratic; P 〈 0.01） and the entire cohort （quadratic; P 〈 0.01）. Similarly, the result of litter weight gain could be expressed as 2.65 and 2.66 g/Mcal of SID- Lys：ME ratio. Therefore, 3.25 Mcal/kg of ME was selected for Exp. 2 in which 150 sows （weighing 254.6 ± 7.3 kg and having an average parity of 3.4 ± 0.4） were allocated to one of five treatments in a completely randomized block design within parity （1, 2, and 3＋）. The experimental diets were formulated to contain 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 or 3.3 g/Mcal of SID-Lys：ME ratio with all diets providing 3.2
