Larval feeding status regulates the transcript levels of genes encoding PTTH and allatoregulatory peptides in silkworm Bombyx mori

In Bombyx mori,two dorsolateral neurosecretory cells(NSCs)in each of thetwo brain lobes have been identified as prothoracicotropic hormone(PTTH)*** neuropeptide in insects stimulates the prothoracic gland for the synthesis andrelease of ecdysone,responsible for the molting ***(AT)and allatostatin(AST)are allatoregulatory neuropeptides that regulate juvenile hormone ***,by using RT-qPCR,we showed that in ***,nutritional stress modulates themRNA expression of AT and AST-C(allatostain type C)in the central nervous systemconsisting of the brain lobes and all the associated *** whole-mount in situhybridization,we showed that the feeding status of Bombyx larvae also influences the ex-pression of PTTH in the NSCs of the *** deprivation significantly decreased themRNA expression levels of PTTH in larvae at active or terminal growth ***,we showed that insulin modulates the expression level of ***,its action wasdependent on the feeding status of the *** feeding,the insulin decreased the PTTHexpression level,while at food deprivation,the insulin increased the PTTH *** data thus indicates that larval feeding status plays an important role in alteringthe mRNA expression levels of allatoregulatory peptide genes and PTTH.

Preparation and Structural Characterization of Rapidly Solidified Al-Cu Alloys

Rapidly solidified Al100-x-Cux alloys （x = 5, 10, 15, 25, 35 wt%） were prepared and analyzed. High cooling rate increased the Cu solubility in α-AI matrix. The influence of the cooling rate on Cu solubility extension in AI was experimentally simulated. Thus the pouring was performed in metallic die and by melt spinning-low pressure （MS- LP） technique. Melt processing by liquid quenching was performed using a self-designed melt spinning set-up which combined the cooling technology of a melt jet on the spinning disc with the principle of the mold feeding from low pressure casting technology. The thickness of the melt-spun ribbons was in the range of 30-70 μm. The cooling rate provided by MS-LP was within 105-106 K/s after the device calibration. The obtained alloys were characterized from structural, thermal and mechanical point of view. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were employed for the microstructural characterization which was followed by X-ray analysis. The thermal properties were evaluated by dilatometric and differential scanning calorimetric measurements. Vickers microhardness measurements were performed in the study. In the case of the hypereutectic alloy with 35 wt% Cu obtained by MS-LP method, the microhardness value increased by 45% compared to the same alloy obtained by gravity casting method. This was due to the extended solubility of the alloying element in the α-AI solid solution.

A Stochastic Variational Approach to Viscous Burgers Equations

We consider viscous Burgers equations in one dimension of space and derive their solutions from stochastic variational principles on the corresponding group of homeomorphisms. The metrics considered on this group are Lp metrics. The velocity corresponds to the drift of some stochastic Lagrangian processes. Existence of minima is proved in some cases by direct methods. We also give a representation of the solutions of viscous Burgers equations in terms of stochastic forward-backward systems.

For 1 〈 p ≤2, an L^p-gradient estimate for a symmetric Markov semigroup is derived in a general framework, i.e. ‖Γ^/2（Ttf）‖p≤Cp/√t‖p, where F is a carre du champ operator. As a simple application we prove that F1/2（（I- L） ^-α） is a bounded operator from L^p to L^v provided that 1 〈 p 〈 2 and 1/2〈α〈1. For any 1 〈 p 〈 2, q 〉 2 and 1/2 〈α 〈 1, there exist two positive constants cq,α,Cp,α such that ‖Df‖p≤ Cp,α‖（I - L）^αf‖p,Cq,α（I-L）^（1-α）‖Df‖q＋‖f‖q, where D is the Malliavin gradient （[2]） and L the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator.

Interleukin and interleukin receptor gene polymorphisms in inflammatory bowel diseases susceptibility

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), represents a group of chronic inflammatory disorders caused by dysregulated immune responses in genetically predisposed individuals. Genetic markers are associated with disease phenotype and long-term evolution, but their value in everyday clinical practice is limited at the moment. IBD has a clear immunological background and interleukins play key role in the process. Almost 130 original papers were revised including meta-analysis. It is clear these data are very important for understanding the base of the disease, especially in terms of clinical utility and validity, but text often do not available for the doctors use these in the clinical practice nowadays. We conducted a systematic review of the current literature on interleukin and interleukin receptor gene polymorphisms associated with IBD, performing an electronic search of PubMed Database from publications of the last 10 years, and used the following medical subject heading terms and/or text words: IBD, CD, UC, interleukins and polymorphisms.

Overexpression of p53 predicts colorectal neoplasia risk in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and mucosa changes indefinite for dysplasia

Background and aims:Patients with Barrett’s esophagus(BE)are at an increased risk for developing esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC);thus they may undergo regular endoscopic *** epithelial changes cannot be unequivocally classified as negative or positive for dysplasia,a diagnosis of indefinite for dysplasia(IND)is *** biomarkers have been proposed as markers or predictors of neoplasia in the general BE population;however,their significance is not clear in patients with *** therefore performed a retrospective study to determine whether expression of these biomarkers was associated with the development of neoplasia in BE-IND ***:We searched our archives to identify all cases of BE-IND diagnosed between January 1992 and December *** analyses were used to semi-quantify the expression of p53,a-methylacyl-CoA racemase(AMACR),and cyclin D1.A univariate analysis was used to identify predictors for prevalent and incident neoplasia and advanced ***:Among the 103 patients with an index diagnosis of BE-IND who were included in this study,81(78.6%)underwent a follow-up biopsy within 12 months of diagnosis;10(12.3%)had neoplasia,including four(4.9%)with advanced *** 79 patients without prevalent neoplasia who underwent more than 1 year of follow-up,18(22.8%)had developed neoplasia,including four(5.1%)with advanced *** and cyclin D1 expression levels were not correlated with prevalent or incident neoplasia;however,high p53 expression(>5%)was associated with prevalent advanced neoplasia on surveillance biopsy(P=0.04)and with an increased risk of progression to advanced neoplasia(HR=12;P=0.03).Conclusion:In this study,p53 expression was found to be predictive of prevalent advanced neoplasia and progression to advanced neoplasia in patients with BE-IND.
