Plague,caused by the gram-negative bacterium Yersinia pestis,is a serious and rapidly progressing illness in humans that can be fatal if not treated *** Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the largest area of natural Himalayan marmot(Marmota himalayana) plague foci in China and covers more than 630000 *** County in Gansu Province is a part of this natural focus of plague and was chosen as a study *** study used an ecological niche modeling(ENM) approach to predict the potential distribution of the Himalayan *** and Disaster Monitor Satellite(HJ-1) data was used to investigate environment factors that affect plague host animal *** animal point data from active surveillance was combined with environmental variables from the HJ-1 satellite and other databases,and the models of the potential distribution of Himalayan marmot were produced with the Genetic Algorithm for Rule-Set Production(GARP).The probability of marmot presence was divided into 0-5%,5%-2.%,2.%-40%,40%-80%,and 80%-100% *** with 80%-100% probability exhibited the greatest potential for the presence of Himalayan *** to the predicted potential distribution of Himalayan marmot in the study area,active surveillance of plague hosts and plague control and prevention could be more efficient.

The application of Geographic Information System(gis), Remote Sensing(RS) and Global Position System(GPS) in the research of forest landscape is outlined in this paper. The integration of the 3S technique is also described. In the 3S system, RS is used to obtain the various information of forest landscape. GPS is used to obtain the ground data of orientation and guide the people to the different places. And gis is used in information management and processing.

EXPERIMENTS ON SELF-PURIFICATION OF HEAVY METALPOLLUTANTS IN NATURAL RIVERS

This paper is concerned with the experiments of simulating self-purification of heavy metal pollutants in natural rivers, such as tributaries polluted by heavy metal polutants joining a main stream, or an uncontaminated tributary with much sediment entering a main stream polluted by heavy metal pollutants, and the experiments on the effect of sediment movement on the adsorption of heavy metal pollutants. Further-more, the effect of turbulence, sediment supply conditions and sediment motion patterns on the adsorption of heavy metal pollutants are studied in a device, in which turbulence is generated by a harmonically vibrating set of grids. The results indicate that sediment motion pattern has no effect on the characteristic parameters in the adsorption isotherm, such as the saturated adsorption content by unit weight of seidment and the constant of adsorption-desorption rate in the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, but it has significant effect on the coefficient of adsorption rate (or the coefficient of desorption rate). When the turbulent intensity of flow is low and all sediment exists as bottom mud, the coefficient of adsorption rate of sediment (or the coefficient of desorption rate of sediment) is very small, thus descending rate of concentration of dissolved heavy metal pollutant concentration is small, and when the turbulent intensity of flow is high, sediment supply condition, that is, whether sediment exists on the bed or not, influences greatly the variation of dissolved heavy metal pollutant concentration. When the sediment on the bed could be lifted up, descending rate of dissolved heavy metal pollutant concentration is large. In other wards, the coefficient of adsorption rate (or the coefficient of desorption rate) by unit weight of suspended sediment is much larger than that by unit weight of bottom mud.

While detecting anomalies in hyperspectral imagery with support vector data description （SVDD）, large numbers of operation was run because of the high dimension character of dataset and the complexity of background and the high miss rate was discovered because of the interfered background by interior anomalies. This paper used incremental support vector data description （ISVDD） method that samples are divided many sub- sample, and incremental study is designed to simplify the computation. On every sub-sample study, optimization is needed according of the support vectors obtained from above sub-sample and current sub-sample data. By the experiment on the HYMAP data, computation complexity of the algorithm decrease obviously and the computation speed increase highly under the similar detection effect compared with SVDD algorithm.

Based on observations of runoff plots and field investigations of gully cross-sections, impacts of various soil and water conservation measures on runoff and sediment yield are analyzed for different rainfall conditions. The results show that antecedent rainfall and rainfall intensity are the main factors affecting the runoff and soil erosion processes. Rainfall events with antecedent rainfall can produce high runoff and sediment yield. Large differences in the characteristics of two rainfall events will result in greater variations of total runoff and sediment yield from the same runoff plot. Under the same soil control measure and rainfall condition, soil and water conservation measures can reduce the impacts of antecedent rainfall and rainfall intensity on runoff and soil erosion. Among various measures, level terrace seems to be the greatest for soil conservation purposes. Combining with engineering measures,Vegetation measures is also effective in controlling runoff and soil erosion. In the initial stage of vegetation enclosure measures, engineering measure is necessary to improve the environment for ecological recovery. Gully head protection can control gully erosion effectively, but the effectiveness of gully head protection would be reduced when rainfall intensity increases. Therefore, the design of a gully head protection structure must be based on local hydrological conditions.

Estimation of Sand Transportation Rate for Fixed and Semi-Fixed Dunes Using Meteorological Wind Data

Taibus County, Inner Mongolia, China, lies in a farming-pastoral ecotone, where severe wind erosion and various aeolian sand hazards are prevalent and fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes occur frequently. This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between sand transportation rate and wind speed for the fixed and semi-fixed sand dunes based on field measurements. The annual quantity of soil erosion by wind was estimated using meteorological wind data. The results indicated that the sand transportation rate in Taibus County in 2.00 was 57.38 kg cm-1 year-1 for the semi-fixed dunes and 4.56 kg cm-1 year-1 for the fixed dunes. The total duration of erosive winds covered 12.5% of the time of the year, and spring posed the highest potential of sand transportation. Wind with low speed (≤ 17 m s-1) and high frequency plays a dominant role in sand transportation, while strong wind (≥ 17 m s-1) with low frequency significantly enhanced the sand transportation. Erosive wind speed, directions, and frequency were three crucial dynamic factors influencing sand hazards in the farming-pastoral ecotone. The dominant factors intensifying sand and dust storms in Taibus County might be related to the favorable wind condition in combination with the durable drought, which led to land desertification and vegetation degradation.

Reciprocity principle is a common theory in electromagnetics and optics. It is also one of the general principles of the radiation transformation theory. However, in many remote sensing studies, this principle cannot be always supported by experimental data, especially when the scaling effect of the remote sensing image pixel is considered. The debate over the issue of whether the reciprocity principle can be used as a fundamental standard in evaluating the effectiveness of remote sensing observations has lasted for years. Using geometrical optics model, Li and Wan proved the existence of the scaling effect in applying the reciprocity principle to a remote sensing image pixel in 1998. In 2.02. Snyder challenged Li’s proof, and attempted to prove that reciprocity principle is universally valid without any scale limitation. In this paper, we will argue with Snyder’s theory and point out that Snyder’s theory had neglected an important condition used in Li’s proof and, as a result, drawn the wrong conclusion. Here we will restate Li’s condition in his demonstration and offer a further proof to verify that reciprocity principle cannot be applied unconditionally to the study of bi directional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) of land surfaces in field or satellite remote sensing observation scale.

The effect of pH on the acute toxicity of Cu to barley(Hordeum vulgare ) root elongation was investigated in solution *** results showed that the median effective concentrations(EC50s;i.e.,the concentration that reduced root elongation by 50%based on free Cu activity) were not significantly different in the low-pH range from 4.5 to 6.5,but in the high-pH range from 7.0 to 8.0,a significant effect of pH on EC50s was *** nonlinear relationship between EC50 and H activity in the present study indicated that the increased toxicity with increasing pH in solution may not be caused by decreasing H *** we take account of CuOH activities,a good linear relationship(r>0.97) between the ratio of CuOH activity to free Cu activity and acute Cu toxicity to barley root elongation was achieved,which indicated that the observed toxicity in the high pH range may be caused by CuOH plus free Cu in ***-regression analysis suggested CuOH had a greater binding affinity than Cu at the biotic ligand *** logistic dose-response curve showed that expressing the Cu dose as Cu+ 2.92.CuOH improved the data fit significantly compared to consideration of the free Cu activity ***,our results suggest CuOH was highly toxic to barley root *** enhanced toxicity of CuOH therefore needs to be considered when modeling the effect of pH on Cu toxicity to barley for exposures having pH greater than 6.5.

In a series of laboratory incubations using soils of two contrasting sitesfrom a temperate marsh on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, potential methane (CH_4) oxidation rates weremeasured to study the effects of inorganic N inputs on CH_4 oxidation. For adrained site, subsurfacepeat (5--15 cm) at an initial 2. mu L CH_4 L^(-1) showed a significantly different (P 2..9 ng CH_4 gDW (dryweight)^(-1) h^(-1); the underlying mineral soil layers (15--30 and 30--50 cm) also had a strongCH_4 oxidation capacity at about an initial 2.000 mu L CH_4 L^(-1). With a waterlogged site, theCH_4 oxidation rate in an aerobic incubation was significantly greater (P 2.O_4, NH_4Cl and NH_4NO_3, exhibited strong inhibitions, which varied as a function of theadded salts and the initial CH_4 level Increasing NH_4^+ usually resulted in greater inhibition andincreasing initial CH_4 concentrations resulted in less NH_4^+ inhibition on CH4 oxidation innatural high-altitude, low-latitude wetlands could be as important as has been reported foragricultural and forest soils. The NH_4^+ effects on the CH_4 oxidation rate need to be furtherinvestigated in a wide range of natural wetland soil types.

Loose architecture of multi-level massive geospatial data based on virtual quadtree

This paper proposed a virtual quadtree (VQT) based loose architecture of multi-level massive geospatial data for integrating massive geospatial data dispersed in the departments of different hierarchies in the same sector into a unified gis (Geographic Information System) platform. By virtualizing the nodes of the quad-tree,the VQT separates the structure of data organization from data storage,and screens the difference between the data storage in local computer and in the re-mote computers in network environment. And by mounting,VQT easily integrates the data from the remote computers into the local VQT so as to implement seam-less integration of distributed multi-level massive geospatial data. Based on that mode,the paper built an application system with geospatial data over 12.0 GB distributed in 12.servers deployed in 12.cities. The experiment showed that all data can be seamlessly rapidly traveled and performed zooming in and zooming out smoothly.
