Two models were developed to estimate Lyme borreliosis(LB)*** was based on the seroprevalence of Borrelia infections in human *** model used corrections for false negative and false positive results from published test sensitivity and specificity measures.A second model based on Borrelia infections in sentinel dogs was used to quantify the prevalence of Lyme disease Borrelia infections in humans;the reference baseline for this model was human and canine infections in Germany.A comparison of the two models is shown and differences *** relationships between incidence,prevalence and total infection burden for LB were derived from published data and these were used in both models to calculate annual incidence,prevalence and total LB *** modelling was conservative and based on medical insurance records coded for erythema *** model growth rates were used in place of the commonly adopted exponential *** mean of the two models was used to create estimates for various countries and *** from the analyses for LB estimated for 2018 include:incidence e USA 473,000/year,Germany 471,000/year,France 434,000/year and Uk 132,000/year;prevalence e USA 2.4 million,Germany 2.4 million,France 2.2 million and Uk 667,000;total infections e USA 10.1 million,Germany 10.0 million,France 9.3 million and Uk 2.8 *** for the world for 2018 are:incidence 12.3 million/year;prevalence 62.1 million;and total infection burden 262.0 *** figures are far higher than officially published data and reflect not only the underestimation of diagnosed cases,which is acknowledged by health agencies,but also undiagnosed and misdiagnosed cases.

We study the emission of fragments in central collisions of light and heavily charged systems of^4+Ar+^45 Sc and^s4kr+^197 Au,respectively,using the Quantum Molecular Dynamics(QMD)model as the primary *** fragments are identified using an energy based clusterization algorithm,i.e.,the Simulated Annealing Clusterization Algorithm(SACA).The charge distributions of intermediate mass fragments[3≤Zf≤12]are fitted with power-law(∝Zf^-τ)and exp on ential(∝e^-λZf)fits in order to extract the parametersτandλ,whose minimum values are also sometimes linked with the onset of fragmentation or the critical point for a liquid-gas phase *** parameters such as the normalized second moment,,average size of the second largest cluster,phase separation parameter(Sp),bimodal parameter(P),information entropy(H),and Zipfs law are also analyzed to find the exact energy of the onset of *** detailed analysis predicts that an energy point exists between 20-23.1 MeV/nucleon,which is very close to the experimentally observed value of 23.9 MeV/nucleon for the^40Ar+^45Sc *** also find that the critical energy deduced using Zipfs law is higher than those predicted from other critical ***,no minimum is found for t values of the highly charged system of^84kr+^197Au,in agreement with experimental findings and various theoretical *** observe that the QMD+SACA model calculations are in agreement with the experimental *** agreement supports our results regarding the energy point of the liquid-gas phase transition and the onset of fragmentation.

Fibroblasts Accelerate Formation and Improve Reproducibility of 3D Cellular Structures Printed with Magnetic Assistance

Fibroblasts(mouse,NIH/3T3)are combined with MDA-MB-231 cells to accelerate the formation and improve the reproducibility of 3D cellular structures printed with magnetic *** and MDA-MB-231 cells are cocultured to produce 12.5:87.5,25:75,and 50:50 total population *** mixtures are suspended in a cell medium containing a paramagnetic salt,Gd-DTPA,which increases the magnetic susceptibility of the medium with respect to the cells.A 3D monotypic MDA-MB-231 cellular structure is printed within 24 hours with magnetic assistance,whereas it takes 48 hours to form a similar structure through gravitational settling *** maximum projected areas and circularities,and cellular ATP levels of the printed structures are measured for 336 *** the relative amounts of the fibroblasts mixed with the MDA-MB-231 cells decreases the time taken to form the structures and improves their *** produced through gravitational settling have larger maximum projected areas and cellular ATP,but are deemed less *** distribution of individual cell lines in the cocultured 3D cellular structures shows that printing with magnetic assistance yields 3D cellular structures that resemble in vivo tumors more closely than those formed through gravitational *** results validate our hypothesis that(1)fibroblasts act as a“glue”that supports the formation of 3D cellular structures,and(2)the structures are produced more rapidly and with greater reproducibility with magnetically assisted printing than through gravitational settling *** of 3D cellular structures with magnetic assistance has applications relevant to drug discovery,lab-on-chip devices,and tissue engineering.

AIM To investigate the repeatability of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy in the in vivo measurement of human cerebral levels of choline-containing compounds(Cho).METHODS Two consecutive scans were carried out in six healthy resting subjects at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 T. On each occasion, neurospectroscopy data were collected from 64 voxels using the same 2 D chemical shift imaging(CSI) sequence. The data were analyzed in the same way, using the same software, to obtain the values for each voxel of the ratio of Cho to creatine. The Wilcoxon related-samples signed-rank test, coefficient of variation(CV), repeatability coefficient(RC), and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were used to assess the repeatability. RESULTS The CV ranged from 2.75% to 33.99%, while the minimum RC was 5.68%. There was excellent reproducibility, as judged by significant ICC values, in 26 voxels. Just three voxels showed significant differences according to the Wilcoxon related-samples signed-rank test. CONCLUSION It is therefore concluded that when CSI multivoxel proton neurospectroscopy is used to measure cerebral choline-containing compounds at 1.5 T, the reproducibility is highly acceptable.

Considerable efforts have been made to develop a male contraceptive and the studies have provided very useful infor-mation in this field. At least five different strategies to develop a male contraceptive have been pursued, namely: inhi-bition of sperm production, interference with sperm function, interruption of sperm transport, prevention of sperm de-position, and prevention of sperm-egg interaction. Of all these approaches, inhibition of sperm production by using an-drogens either alone or in combination with progestins have given the most encouraging results. A nmnber of clinicaltrials substantiate that it is indeed possible to have a reversible, effective and safe hormonal method of contraception. Apostmeiotic and epididymal approach to interfere with sperm function or the secretory and metabolic processes of theepididymis is another attractive option of male contraceptive development. A number of chemical compounds have beenidentified which interfere with sperm function in the epididymis without affecting sperm production, however, the com-pounds evaluated so far were found to be toxic. Interruption of sperm transport through the vas either by vasectomy orpercutaneous intmvasal injection of liquids which form cure-in-place plugs is also an attractive option. However, re-versibility of the methods is of concern in their wide scale use. The major constraint in developing a long-acting male contraceptive seems to be the need for greater investment forproduct development. The clinical trials for evaluating the efficacy and safety of the new products and formulationsstretch over several years and require enormous financial commitment. Nevertheless, the long-term gain of having along-acting reversible contraceptive for men is far greater than the financial commitments over few years. 1-{4-[（2-hydroxy-benzylidene）amino]phenyl}ethanone functionalized silica gel was synthesized and used as a highly efficient, selective and reusable solid phase extractant for separation and preconcentration of trace amount of Zn（II） from environmental matrices. The adsorbent was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR）, elemental analysis,~3C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, thermogravimetric analysis （TGA） and BET surface area analysis. The dependence of zinc extraction on various analytical parameters such as pH, type and amount of eluent, sample flow rate and interfering ions were investigated in detail. The material exhibited superior adsorption efficiency for Zn（II） with high metal loading capacity of 1.0 mmol/g under optimum conditions. After adsorption, the recovery （〉 98%） of metal ions was accomplished using 1.0 mol/L HNO3 as an eluent. The sorbent was also regenerated by microwave treatment in milder acidic environment （0.1 mol/L HNO3）. The lower detection limit and preconcentration factor of the present method were found out to be 0.04 ~tg/L and 312.5 respectively. The modified silica surface possessed excellent selectivity for the target analytes and the adsorption/desorption process remained effective for at least ten consecutive cycles. The optimized procedure was successfully implemented for the extraction of Zn（II） from mycorrhizal treated fly ash and pharmaceutical samples with reproducible results.

AIM: To conduct the first systematic test of the hypothesis that modulation of cardiac vagal tone is impaired in Lyme ***: The response of cardiac vagal tone to respiratory modulation was measured in 18 serologically positive Lyme disease patients and in 18 ***: The two groups were matched in respect of age,sex,body mass,mean arterial blood pressure,mean resting heart rate and mean resting cardiac vagal tone. The mean maximum cardiac vagal tone during deep breathing in the Lyme disease patients [11.2(standard error 1.3)] was lower than in the matched controls [16.5(standard error 1.7); P = 0.02].CONCLUSION: Respiratory modulation of cardiac vagal tone is impaired in Lyme disease,which suggests that Lyme disease may directly affect the vagus nerve or the brainstem.
