Design of Online Vitals Monitor by Integrating Big Data and IoT

In this work,we design a multisensory IoT-based online vitals monitor(hereinafter referred to as the VITALS)to sense four bedside physiological parameters including pulse(heart)rate,body temperature,blood pressure,and periph-eral oxygen ***,the proposed system constantly transfers these signals to the analytics system which aids in enhancing diagnostics at an earlier stage as well as monitoring after *** core hardware of the VITALS includes commercial off-the-shelf sensing devices/medical equipment,a powerful microcontroller,a reliable wireless communication module,and a big data analytics *** extracts human vital signs in a pre-programmed interval of 30 min and sends them to big data analytics system through the WiFi module for further *** use Apache Kafka(to gather live data streams from connected sen-sors),Apache Spark(to categorize the patient vitals and notify the medical pro-fessionals while identifying abnormalities in physiological parameters),Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS)(to archive data streams for further analysis and long-term storage),Spark SQL,Hive and Matplotlib(to support caregivers to access/visualize appropriate information from collected data streams and to explore/understand the health status of the individuals).In addition,we develop a mobile application to send statistical graphs to doctors and patients to enable them to monitor health conditions *** proposed system is implemented on three patients for 7 days to check the effectiveness of sensing,data processing,and data transmission *** validate the system accuracy,we compare the data values collected from established sensors with the measured readouts using a commercial healthcare monitor,the Welch Allyn®Spot *** pro-posed system provides improved care solutions,especially for those whose access to care services is limited.

This work addresses the alloying of titanium aluminides used in aircraft engine applications and automobiles. The oxidation resistance behavior of two titanium aluminides of α2 ＋ γ （Ti3Al ＋ TiAl） and orthorhombic Ti2NbAl, recognized as candidates for high-temperature applications, was investigated by exposure of the alloys for 100 h in air. Thus, oxidation resistance was expressed as the mass gain rate, whereas surface aspects were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy in conjunction with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and the type of oxidation products was analyzed by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The orthorhombic Ti2NbAl alloy was embrittled, and pores and microcracks were formed as a result of oxygen diffusion through the external oxide layer formed during thermal oxidation for 100 h.

Climate change impact assessment on three major crops in the north-central region of Bangladesh using DSSAT

The potential consequences of climate change emanated from global warming are very alarming;the greatest concern is the potentially disastrous consequences on crop agriculture and food security in many parts of the *** is a country highly susceptible to climate change,but information in this regard is still *** study investigated the effects of climate change on three major crops-wheat,potato and rice-in the north-central region of *** climate change scenarios,A2 and B2,of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC)were generated by employing MAGICC/SCENGEN model together with the observed climate data of the *** growth and yield of the crops were simulated using DSSAT CERES-Wheat,SUBSTOR-Potato and CERES-Rice models under the present and projected future changing climatic *** a predicted 5.32℃ increase in temperature in the year 2100,the yield of wheat,rice and potato would decrease by 47.6%,67.8%and 38.6%,*** increased temperature would accelerate physiological maturity of the crops as reflected by their reduced length of growing season(LGS)by 1.20%to 18.5%.The reduced LGS would reduce seasonal evapotranspiration(ET)of the crops by shortening time-span for ET *** to dominant yield reduction over ET reduction,the water use efficiency(WUE)for grain/tuber and biomass yields would decrease with the changing *** reduced crop yields are an indicative of a potential future risk of food security in *** results of this study can therefore guide to adopt coping mechanisms in the light of climate change to ensure future food security of the country.

In vivo corneal confocal microscopic analysis in patients with keratoconus

AIM: To quantify corneal ultrastructure using laser scanning in vivo confocal microscopy(IVCM) in patients with keratoconus and control subjects. METHODS: Unscarred corneas of 78 keratoconic subjects without a history of contact lens use and 36age-matched control subjects were evaluated with slit-lamp examination(SLE), corneal topography and laser scanning IVCM. One eye was randomly chosen for analysis. Anterior and posterior stromal keratocyte,endothelial cell and basal epithelial cell densities and sub-basal nerve structure were ***: IVCM qualitatively demonstrated enlarged basal epithelial cells, structural changes in sub-basal and stromal nerve fibers, abnormal stromal keratocytes and keratocyte nuclei, and pleomorphism and enlargement of endothelial cells. Compared with control subjects, significant reductions in basal epithelial cell density( 5817 ± 306 cells / mm2 vs 4802 ±508 cells/mm2,P < 0. 001), anterior stromal keratocyte density(800 ±111 cells/mm2 vs 555 ±115 cells/mm2, P <0.001),posterior stromal keratocyte density(333±34 cells/mm2vs270 ±47 cells/mm2, P <0.001), endothelial cell density(2875 ±223 cells/mm2 vs 2686 ±265 cells/mm2, P <0.001),sub-basal nerve fiber density(31.2 ±8.4 nerves/mm2vs18.1 ±9.2 nerves/mm2, P <0.001), sub-basal nerve fiber length(21.4±3.4 mm/mm2 vs 16.1±5.1 mm/mm2, P <0.001),and sub-basal nerve branch density(median 50.0(first quartile 31.2- third quartile 68.7) nerve branches/mm2 vs median 25.0(first quartile 6.2- third quartile 45.3) nerve branches/mm2, P <0.001) were observed in patients with ***: Significant microstructural abnormalities were identified in all corneal layers in the eyes of subjects with keratoconus using IVCM. This non-invasive in vivo technique provides an important means to define and follow progress of microstructural changes in patients with keratoconus.

Visual acuity and endothelial cell density with respect to the graft thickness in Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty: one year results

AIM: To evaluate the visual acuity and endothelial cell density according to the thickness in Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty(DSAEK)one year after ***: DSAEK patients’ data were reviewed. Thirty seven eyes of 37 patients who underwent DSAEK for pseudophakic bullous keratopathy(PBK) were included in this study. Graft thickness was measured with optical coherence tomography(OCT) 12 mo after DSAEK. Eyes were divided into 3 groups based on the graft thickness:thick(>200 μm), medium-thick(150-200 μm) and thin(<150 μm). Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),endothelial cells density(ECD) and complications were assessed and comparisons were done between ***: Median thickness of postoperative grafts was 188(range 73-317 μm). There was no significant difference in age, sex, preoperative BCVA, or follow-up period between DSAEK groups. At postoperative 12 mo,mean BCVA was 0.28±0.10 in thick graft group, 0.52±0.08 in medium-thick graft group, and 0.72 ±0.06 in thin graft group. Thin grafts showed better postoperative BCVA as compared with the medium-thick and thick grafts(P =0.001). Thick graft group had 1637.44 ±88.19-mm2,medium thick graft had 1764.50±34.28-mm2 and thin graft group had 1845.30 ±65.62-mm2. Thin graft group had better ECD at 12 mo after surgery(P =0.001).CONCLUSION: Thin grafts after DSAEK ensure better visual rehabilitation. Eyes with thin grafts had significantly lesser loss of ECD compared to eyes withmedium-thick and thick grafts one year after surgery.

Phenol contaminated municipal wastewater treatment using date palm frond biochar:Optimization using response surface methodology

Phenol is classified as an emerging contaminant which can be very toxic even at low concentrations and should be removed from wastewaters before reaching the *** this study date palm frond and leaf were pyrolyzed at different temperatures to identify the best adsorbent(feedstock)and pyrolysis temperature to remove phenol from aqueous *** palm frond pyrolyzed at 600℃,termed DPF600,achieved the highest phenol removal rates of 64%and adsorption capacity of 15.93 mg/*** surface methodology approach using Box-Behnken design was implemented to obtain the optimal pH(6),contact time(20 h)and dosage(0.1 g)for the maximum phenol adsorption.A predicted adsorption capacity was found as 16.62 mg/g which was in close agreement with the experimental adsorption capacity of 17.38 mg/*** and kinetic models in both linear and non-linear forms indicated that Freundlich model(R^(2)=0.99,χ^(2)=0.02,RMSE=1.09)and pseudo-second order model(R^(2)=0.99,χ^(2)=0.85,RMSE=5.41)fit best the obtained experimental *** calculations affirmed that the adsorption of phenol onto DPF600 biochar was endothermic and *** point of zero charge was found to be at 6.5 for DPF600 *** electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction confirmed adsorption of phenol onto DPF600 *** of DPF600 biochar to remove phenol from synthetic primary and secondary treated wastewater samples achieved 60 and 85%removal rates and 241 mg/g and 22.28 mg/g adsorption capacities,*** studies showed promising adsorption capacities indicating the efficacy of DPF600 for the removal of phenol from wastewater.

Changes in endothelial cell density following penetrating keratoplasty and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty

· AIM: To compare the corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) of clear grafts after penetrating keratoplasty (PK) and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). · METHODS: The study included 44 and 54 patients treated with PK and DALK, respectively, between March 2006 and April 2010. Corneal ECD was examined using specular microscopy at postoperative 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 months, and the values were compared. · RESULTS: Corneal ECD reduction in the PK group was 7.4%, 15.2%, 23.5%, and 28.9% at 3, 6, 12 and 18 months respectively after surgery, compared with 4.2 % in the first month (P 0.05). · CONCLUSION: Compared with DALK,PK significantly reduced ECD of the clear grafts. These results suggest that survival of endothelial cells in grafts is better after DALK than after PK. ·

Endocrine disruptor chemicals as obesogen and diabetogen: Clinical and mechanistic evidence

Obesity is becoming an inevitable pandemic all over the *** World Obesity Federation predicts in the 2022 World Obesity Atlas that one billion people worldwide,including 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men,will be living with obesity by ***,the prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide,and diabetes is becoming more of a public health *** insulin resistance due to obesity and deficiency in insulin secretion are the two main causes of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).An exogenous chemical or mixture of chemicals that interferes with any aspect of hormone action was defined as endocrine-disrupting chemicals(EDCs).Bisphenol A(BPA),the first known EDC,was synthesized and was considered to be *** production of BPA has increased progressively from 5 to 8 million tons(MT)between 2010 and ***,researchers estimated that the production should reach 10.2 MT by *** human population is exposed to EDCs in daily life in such forms as pesticides/herbicides,industrial and household products,plastics,detergents,and personal care *** term obesogen was used for chemicals that promote weight gain and obesity by increasing the number of adipocytes and fat storage in existing adipocytes,changing the energy balance,and finally regulating appetite and *** the obesogenic effect,EDCs can cause T2DM through alteration inßcell function and morphology and insulin *** this review,we provide clinical and mechanistic evidence regarding EDCs as obesogen and ***,those studies are not enough methodologically to indicate *** this respect,randomized clinical trials are needed to investigate the association between obesogen,diabetogen and the related metabolic clinical picture.
