The standard methods for regression analyses of clustered riverine larval habitat data of Simulium damnosum s.l.a major black-fly vector of onchoceriasis,postulate models relating observational ecological-sampled parameter estimators to prolific habitats without accounting for residual intra-cluster error correlation ***,this correlation comes from two sources:(1)the design of the random effects and their assumed covariance from the multiple levels within the regression model and(2)the correlation structure of the ***,inconspicuous errors in residual intracluster correlation estimates can overstate precision in forecasted *** *** larval habitat explanatory attributes regardless how they are treated(***,autoregressive,Toeplitz,etc.).In this research,the geographical locations for multiple riverine-based *** *** ecosystem habitats sampled from two preestablished epidemiological sites in Togo were identified and recorded from July 2009 to June ***,the data were aggregated into PROC *** agglomerative hierarchical residual cluster-based analysis was then *** sampled clustered study site data was then analyzed for statistical correlations using monthly biting rates(MbR).Euclidean distance measurements and terrain-related geomorphological statistics were then generated in ArcgIS.A digital overlay was then performed also in ArcgIS using the georeferenced ground coordinates of high and low density clusters stratified by annual biting rates(AbR).The data was overlain onto multitemporal sub-meter pixel resolution satellite data(*** 0.61m wavbands).Orthogonal spatial filter eigenvectors were then generated in SAS/geographic Information Systems(gIS).Univariate and nonlinear regression-based models(***,Poisson,and negative binomial)were also employed to determine probability distributions and to identify statistically significant parameter estimators from the

Optical and electrical properties and phonon drag effect in low temperature TEP measurements of AgSbSe_2 thin films

Polycrystalline thin films of silver antimony selenide have been deposited using a reactive evaporation technique onto an ultrasonically cleaned glass substrate at a vacuum of 10-5 torr. The preparative parameters, like substrate temperature and incident fluxes, have been properly controlled in order to get stoichiometric, good quality and reproducible thin film samples. The samples are characterized by XRD, SEM, AFM and a UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer. The prepared sample is found to be polycrystalline in nature. From the XRD pattern, the average particle size and lattice constant are calculated. The dislocation density, strain and number of crystallites per unit area are evaluated using the average particle size. The dependence of the electrical conductivity on the temperature has also been studied and the prepared AgSbSe2 samples are semiconducting in nature. The AgSbSe2 thin films exhibited an indirect allowed optical transition with a band gap of 0.64 eV. The compound exhibits promising thermoelectric properties, a large Seebeck coefficient of 30 mV/K at 48 K due to strong phonon electron interaction. It shows a strong temperature dependence on thermoelectric properties, including the inversion of a dominant carrier type from p to n over a low temperature range 9-300 K, which is explained on the basis of a phonon drag effect.

Up-conversion photoluminescence(UCPL)refers to the elementary process where low-energy photons are converted into high-energy ones via consecutive interactions inside a *** additional energy is provided by intermnal thermal energy in the form of lttice vibrations(phonons),the process is called phonon-assisted ***,we report the exceptionally large phonon-assisted energy gain of up to^8kgT(kg is boltzmann constant,T is temperature)on all-inorganic lead halide perovskite semiconductor colloidal nanocrystals that goes beyond the maximum capabilty of only harvesting optical phonon *** systematic optical study in combination with a statistical probability model,we explained the nontrivial phonon-assisted UCPL process in perovskites nanocrystals,where in addition to the strong electron-phonon(light-matter)coupling,other nonlinear processes such as phonon-phonon(matter-matter)interaction also effectively boost the up-conversion efficiency.

Metabolic changes are inextricably linked to chronic hepatitis C(CHC).Recently polymorphisms in the IFNL3(IL28b)region have been shown to be strongly associated with spontaneous and treatment induced recovery from hepatitis C virus(HCV)***,circumstantial evidence suggests a link between IFNL3single nucleotide polymorphisms and lipid metabolism,steatosis and insulin resistance in *** emerging picture suggests that the responder genotypes of IFNL3polymorphisms are associated with a higher serum lipid profile,and less frequent steatosis and insulin *** review analyzes the current data regarding this interaction and its meaning for HCV pathogenesis and disease progression.

Physiological Responses of <i>Tamarix ramosissima</i>to Extreme NaCl Concentrations

Hydrologic alterations of river systems in western North America over the past century have increased soil salinity, contributing to the establishment and spread of an introduced halophytic species, Tamarix ramosissima (Ledeb.). The physiological responses of Tamarix ramosissima to salinity stress are incompletely known. To assess the salinity tolerance of this species, we measured several whole plant and leaf-level physiological responses of Tamarix ramosissima cuttings grown in a controlled environment over three NaCl concentrations (0, 15 and 40 g l-1). Tamarix ramosissima photosynthesis (A2000), stomatal conductance to water (gs), water potential (Ψw), and the maximum quantum yield of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) decreased at 15 and 40 g l-1 NaCl compared to control treatments. However, after approximately 35 days, Tamarix ramosissima had increased photosynthetic rates, maximum quantum yield of photosystem II, and stomatal conductance to water. These data suggests that physiological functioning of Tamarix ramosissima acclimated to extremely high NaCl concentrations over a relatively short period of time. Additionally, we present preliminary evidence that suggests proline synthesis may be the mechanism by which this species adjusts osmotically to increasing salinity.

blighia sapida(***)***(Family Sapindaceae)is a branchless straight bole approximately 15 m in *** study evaluated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of ethanol extract and fractions of *** stem-bark using in vitro *** extract and its fractions were investigated for 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)radical scavenging activity,ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),total antioxidant capacity(TAC),and quantitative phenolic and flavonoid ***-inflammatory activity was evaluated using albumin denaturation and membrane stabilization *** extract and its fractions exhibited radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory *** ethyl acetate fraction possessed maximum phenolic and flavonoid contents(136.67±1.55 gallic acid equivalent mg/g and 75.76±4.03 quercetin equivalent mg/g,respectively).Antioxidant studies revealed that the ethyl acetate fraction displayed superior activity with an IC_(50)=0.09±0.03 mg/mL DPPH,and values of 146.96±3.81 ascorbic acid equivalent(AAE)mg/g and 359.20±4.98 AAE mg/g for FRAP and TAC,***,the anti-inflammatory activity was revealed by inhibition of heatinduced albumin denaturation and red blood cell membrane stabilization at concentrations of 200 -1000 mg/mL and 50-250 mg/mL,*** ethanol extract and fractions exhibited antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities,with ethyl acetate fraction showing superior activity,which could be attributed to secondary metabolites,mainly phenolic ***,the antioxidant and antiinflammatory activities of *** can be exploited by ethnomedicinal users.

Vitamin D supplementation improves sustained virologic response in chronic hepatitis C (genotype 1)-nave patients

AIM: To determine whether adding vitamin D, a potent immunomodulator, improves the hepatitis C virus (HCV) response to antiviral therapy. METHODS: Seventy-two consecutive patients with chronic HCV genotype 1 were randomized into two groups: the treatment group (n = 36, 50% male, mean age 47 ± 11 years) received Peg-α-2b interferon (1.5 μg/kg per week) plus ribavirin (1000-1200 mg/d) together with vitamin D3 (2000 IU/d, target serum level > 32 ng/mL), and the control group (n = 36, 60% male, mean age 49 ± 7 years) received identical therapy without vitamin D. HCV-RNA was assessed by realtime polymerase chain reaction (sensitivity, 10 IU/mL). The sustained virologic response (SVR) was defined as undetectable HCV-RNA at 24 wk post-treatment. RESULTS: Clinical characteristics were similar in both groups. The treatment group had a higher mean bodymass index (27 ± 4 kg/m2 vs 24 ± 3 kg/m2, P brosis score (> F2: 42% vs 19%, P gative (P gative (P gative (P brosis and vitamin D supplementation were strongly and independently associated with SVR (multivariate analysis). Adverse events were mild and typical of Peg-α-2b/ribavirin. CONCLUSION: Adding vitamin D to conventional Peg-α-2b/ribavirin therapy for treatment-na■ve patients with chronic HCV genotype 1 infection significantly improves the viral response.

Evolutionary convergence is one of the most striking examples of adaptation driven by natural ***, genomic evidence for convergent adaptation to extreme environments remains ***, we assembled reference genomes of two alpine plants, Saussurea obvallata(Asteraceae)and Rheum alexandrae(Polygonaceae), with 37,938 and 61,463 annotated protein-coding genes. by integrating an additional five alpine genomes,we elucidated genomic convergence underlying high-altitude adaptation in alpine plants. Our results detected convergent contractions of diseaseresistance genes in alpine genomes, which might be an energy-saving strategy for surviving in hostile environments with only a few pathogens *** identified signatures of positive selection on a set of genes involved in reproduction and respiration(e.g., MMD1, NbS1, and HPR), and revealed signatures of molecular convergence on genes involved in self-incompatibility, cell wall modification,DNA repair and stress resistance, which may underlie adaptation to extreme cold, high ultraviolet radiation and hypoxia environments. Incorporating transcriptomic data, we further demonstrated that genes associated with cuticular wax and flavonoid biosynthetic pathways exhibit higher expression levels in leafy bracts, shedding light on the genetic mechanisms of the adaptive “greenhouse” morphology. Our integrative data provide novel insights into convergent evolution at a high-taxonomic level,aiding in a deep understanding of genetic adaptation to complex environments.
