Reconsidering Co-Morbid Traits in Explanatory Models of High Dental Anxiety Using a Comparison of Psychiatric and Normal Patient Samples

Explanatory models of co-morbid traits related to dental anxiety (DA) as described in the literature were tested and relative strengths analyzed in two groups of Danish adults, one with psychiatric diagnoses (n = 108) and the other healthy incoming patients at a large dental school teaching clinic (n = 151). Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) and self-report measures representing three co-morbidity explanatory models, 1) presence of other fears;2) anxiety sensitivity and 3) feelings of vulnerability specific to dental treatment, were collected in subscales of a 53-item questionnaire. Other items identified gender, age, education, income, avoidance behavior and dental symptoms. Frequency, chi-square, odds ratio and logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: All individuals with high DA (DAS > 13) regardless of group, demonstrated significant differences in avoidance of treatment (>2 yr.) versus lower or no anxiety. Patients with psychiatric diagnoses were three times more likely to have high DA and nearly two times more likely to have avoided dental treatment >2 yr.;25.9% reported extreme DA, compared to 9.3% of controls. Models of high general fear levels, predisposing anxiety sensitivity and vulnerability all demonstrated significant and strong association with intensity of dental anxiety in bivariate analyses. Feelings of vulnerability were the strongest predictor of DAS high anxiety, according to logistic regression analyses. Conclusion: Co-morbidity explanatory models as represented in present trait measures appear not to be competitive, but rather explain different aspects of a vulnerability model in high dental anxiety. Higher incidence of DA and treatment avoidance in psychiatric patients requires special attention.

Pathogen-associated molecular patterns(PAMPs)-triggered immunity(PTI)is an important component of plant innate *** a previous study,we showed that the PAMP flg22 from Xanthomonas citri ***(Xflg22),the causal agent of citrus canker,induced PTI in citrus,which correlated with the observed levels of canker ***,we identified and sequenced two bacterial flagellin/flg22 receptors(FLS2-1 and FLS2-2)from‘Duncan’grapefruit(Citrus paradisi,CpFLS2-1 and CpFLS2-2)and‘Sun Chu Sha’mandarin(***,CrFLS2-1 and CrFLS2-2).We were able to isolate only one FLS2 from‘Nagami’kumquat(Fortunella margarita,FmFLS2-1)and gene flanking sequences suggest a rearrangement event that resulted in the deletion of FLS2-2 from the *** analysis,gene structure and presence of critical amino acid domains all indicate we identified the true FLS2 genes in ***2-2 was more transcriptionally responsive to Xflg22 than FLS2-1,with induced expression levels higher in canker-resistant citrus than in susceptible ***,‘Nagami’kumquat showed the highest FLS2-1 steady-state expression levels,although it was not induced by *** selected FmFLS2-1,CrFLS2-2 and CpFLS2-2 to further evaluate their capacity to enhance bacterial resistance using Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression *** FmFLS2-1 and CrFLS2-2,the two proteins from canker-resistant species,conferred stronger Xflg22 responses and reduced canker symptoms in leaves of the susceptible grapefruit *** two citrus genes will be useful resources to enhance PTI and achieve resistance against canker and possibly other bacterial pathogens in susceptible citrus types.

Current biological control methods to prevent pre-harvest aflatoxin contamination of corn, cottonseed, and ground and tree nuts involve field inoculation of non-aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus. To date, the efficacy of this approach requires annual reapplication of the biocontrol agent. The reason for this requirement is uncertain. To track the dispersal and test the longevity of these strains, we prepared fluorescent biocontrol strains by incorporating into them the gene expressing the enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP). We first investigated the effects of eGFP transformation on the ability of the fluorescent fungus to compete with its non-fluorescent homolog, and then with other heterologous non-aflatoxigenic strains as well as with aflatoxigenic isolates. Our findings indicate that, in these studies, detection of fluorescence was variable, with some fluorescent strains exhibiting enhanced growth and sporulation post-transformation. In our tests, not all transformed strains proved to be good candidates for tracking because their fluorescence was reduced over the course of our study. Most of the transformed strains retained fluorescence and showed robust colony growth in an artificial competitor environment;therefore, they should be suited for further trial under more natural settings. Our ultimate objective is to determine if out-crossing between biocontrol strains and native field populations is occurring in a natural setting.

Purpose:The objective of this scoping review was to summarize systematically the available literature investigating the relationships between the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic and movement behaviors(physical activity,sedentary behavior,and sleep)of school-aged children(aged 511 years)and youth(aged 1217 years)in the first year of the COVID-19 ***:Searches for published literature were conducted across 6 databases on 2 separate search dates(November 25,2020,and January 27,2021).Results were screened and extracted by 2 reviewers(DCP and KR)independently,using *** numeric analysis and content analysis were undertaken to present thematically the findings of included studies according to the associated impact on each movement ***:A total of 1486 records were extracted from database searches;of those,150 met inclusion criteria and were included for *** 150 articles,110 were empirical studies examining physical activity(n=77),sedentary behavior/screen time(n=58),and sleep(n=55).Results consistently reported declines in physical-activity time,increases in screen time and total sedentary behavior,shifts to later bed and wake times,and increases in sleep *** reported impacts on movement behaviors were greater for youth than for ***:The COVID-19 pandemic is related to changes in the quantity and nature of physical activity,sedentary behavior,and sleep among children and *** is an urgent need for policy makers,practitioners,and researchers to develop solutions for attenuating adverse changes in physical activity and screen time among children and youth.

目的对临床致病性不动杆菌进行种属鉴定,并比较3种方法(44℃生长试验、特异性引物PCR扩增和16SrRNA测序)对鲍曼不动杆菌鉴定的特异性、准确性及应用价值。方法收集临床致病不动杆菌56株,首先接种在胰蛋白胨大豆肉汤中44℃进行培养,观察是否可以生长;其次,提取56株不动杆菌基因组DNA,用两组不同的特异性引物进行PCR扩增鉴定;最后,用通用引物对56株不动杆菌的16SrRNA进行测序鉴定。结果 56株不动杆菌中有17株可在44℃生长。经特异性引物PCR扩增鉴定,发现8株鲍曼不动杆菌和3株13TU型不动杆菌均可在44℃中较早较快生长。金标准16SrRNA测序确定56株不动杆菌中含有9个种,其中鲍曼不动杆菌和13TU型不动杆菌的鉴定结果与特异性引物PCR扩增法相同。结论应用分子生物学方法鉴定鲍曼不动杆菌具有准确、高效且可重复性高的优点,尤其是特异性PCR扩增法,可作为较难诊断的鲍曼不动杆菌的首选鉴定方法。

AIM To investigate the independent effects of 6-mo of dietary energy restriction or exercise training on wholebody and hepatic fat oxidation of patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).METHODS Participants were randomised into either circuit exercise training(EX;n = 13;3 h/wk without changes in dietary habits),or dietary energy restriction(ER) without changes in structured physical activity(ER;n = 8).Respiratory quotient(RQ) and whole-body fat oxidation rates(Fatox) were determined by indirect calorimetry under basal,insulin-stimulated and exercise *** of disease and steatosis was determined by liver histology;hepatic Fatox was estimated from plasma β-hydroxybutyrate ***;cardiorespiratory fitness was expressed as VO2 ***-case analysis was performed(EX:n = 10;ER:n = 6).RESULTS Hepatic steatosis and NAFLD activity score decreased with ER but not with EX.β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations increased significantly in response to ER(0.08 ± 0.02 mmol/L vs 0.12 ± 0.04 mmol/L,P = 0.03) but remained unchanged in response to EX(0.10 ± 0.03 mmol/L vs 0.11 ± 0.07 mmol/L,P = 0.39).basal RQ decreased(P = 0.05) in *** EX,while this change was not significant after ER(P = 0.38).VO_(2peak)(P bic exercise(P = 0.03) improved with EX but not with ER(P > 0.05).The increase in β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations was correlated with the reduction in hepatic steatosis(r =-0.56,P = 0.04).CONCLUSION ER and EX lead to specific benefits on fat metabolism of patients with *** hepatic Fat_(ox) in response to ER could be one mechanism through which the ER group achieved reduction in steatosis.

Purpose This cross-sectional study investigated dynamic force-time variables and vaulting performance in young female gymnasts of different maturity *** 120 gymnasts aged 5-14 years were sub-divided into maturity groupings using percent of predicted adult height(%PAH)*** performed three jumping protocols,the squat jump(SJ),countermovement jump(CMJ)and drop jump(DJ),before completing straight jump vaults that were recorded using two-dimensional *** Jumping performance improved with biological maturity evidenced by the most mature gymnasts’producing sig-nificantly more absolute force(P0.78),impulse(P0.75)and power(P0.91)than the least mature group,resulting in the greater jump heights(P0.70).While,no significant differences were observed in relative peak force across multiple tests,measures of relative peak power did significantly increase with *** upon regression analyses,maturation was found to influence vertical take-off velocity during vaulting,explaining 41%of the variance in each jumping *** all tests,the DJ was found to have the highest predictive ability of vaulting vertical take-off velocity,explaining 55%of the total *** biological maturation impacts jump height and underpinning mechanical variables in young female *** vertical take-off velocity appears to be influenced by maturation and various dynamic force-time variables,par-ticularly those during DJ,which had the highest explained total variance.

Purpose: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome is an inflammatory disorder of the bladder, for which histamine has been implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease. The condition is often refractory to standard-of-care medical treatments, including the antihistamines hydroxyzine or cimetidine, and procedures. Herein we report a physician-sponsored proof-of-principle case series of four adult female patients with chronic painful bladder and frequent urination, who were treated once daily with a low dose H1 + H2 histamine receptor antagonist combination. Materials and Methods: Four adult females with Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome were treated once daily with a compounded oral dosage form containing the H1 receptor antagonist-cetirizine 8 mg in combination with the H2 receptor antagonist-famotidine 22 mg. The case series consists of a retrospective review of the symptom severity prior to versus following H1 + H2 treatment. Results and Conclusions: The once daily dual histamine receptor antagonist therapy substantially reduced the pain and urination frequency, and prophylactically maintained all four patients long-term with substantially reduced disease severity. The reduction in symptom severity was achieved at amounts that do not exceed the US FDA approved and exceptionally safe daily doses for the two over-the-counter monotherapies. This case series provides proof-of-principle evidence that a dual antihistamine combination of cetirizine plus famotidine effectively treated and maintained female patients, who were previously refractory to standard-of-care medications and/or procedures.
