The principal objective of this study was to compare bioaccumulative properties of two terrestrial moss species Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi from the kielce area （south-central Poland）, using various statistical techniques. Forty-six moss samples from 23 sampling sites located within the city limits were analyzed for 33 trace elements. The results indicated that 17 elements （ba, Ce, Co, Cu, Eu, Fe, Gd, Hg, La, mo, Nd, Ni, Pb, Pr, Sm, V, Y） dominated in H. splendens, whereas only three elements （mn, Sr, Zn） occurred in excessive amounts in P. schreberi. No differences in the distribution pattern of Dy, Er, Ho, Sn, Tb, Th and Yb were observed. The element concentration ratio （PI/Hy） varied from 0.50 to 1.19. For 14 elements （Ce, Co, Cu, Fe, Gd, Hg, La, mo, Nd, Ni, Pb, Sm, Th, V）, PI/Hy 〈 1; for 4 elements （Cd, mn, Sr, Zn）, PI/Hy 〉 1; for 7 elements （ba, Dy, Er, Eu, Pr, Y, Yb）, PI/Hy = equalled 1. Czekanowski＇s method showed similarities in rare earth element concentrations for both moss species. The cluster analysis exhibited three significant clusters at D link /D max × 100 〈 50 for both moss species. Strong positive Spearman correlations between both moss species were recorded for the following pairs：ba-ba, Co-Co, Er-Er, Eu-Eu, Gd Gd, mn-mn, Ni-Ni, Pb-Pb, Pr-Pr, Sm-Sm, Th-Th, Y-Y, and Yb-Yb. Nonparametric tests （Sign test, Wilcoxon tests） showed statistically significant differences only for Cd, Ce, Co, Cu, Hg, mo, Ni, Pb and Sr. The scanning electron microscope study of H. splendens and P. schreberi revealed a different morphology of these species with no injuries.

The second dissociation constant, pk2, and related thermodynamic quantities for TAPSO have been previously determined and reported from the temperatures (278.15 to 328.15) k. In the current study there are five buffer solutions without NaCl and five buffer solutions with NaCl present which yield an ionic strength (I = 0.16 mol·kg-1) similar to that of blood plasma. These buffer solutions have been evaluated in the temperature range of (278.15 to 328.15) k using the extended Debye-Hückel equation, due to the limitations of the bates-Guggenheim convention such that it is only valid when I -1. The liquid junction potential (Ej) values between the TAPSO solution and the saturated kCl calomel electrode solution have been estimated at (298.15 and 310.15) k using a flowing junction cell measurement. The previously mentioned Ej values have been used in determining the operational pH values at (298.15 and 310.15) k. These TAPSO buffer solutions are recommended as reference solutions for pH measurements in saline media with an ionic strength of I = 0.16 mol·kg-1.

Calculation of time-varying equivalent inductance and resistance of helical flux compression generators using the 2D filamentary method and dynamic matrix concept in the frequency domain

In this paper we present an approach to calculate the time-varying equivalent inductance and resistance of helical flux compression generators accurately. This approach is based on the 2D filamentary method and uses the dynamic matrix concept. by using this method, it is possible to consider both the effects of the armature presence and frequency on the inductance and resistance of the HFCGs. The latter effect has not been discussed in previous open literature. The validation of the presented method has been verified by measurement results.

Activated pancreatic stellate cells(PSCs)have been widely accepted as a key precursor of excessive pancreatic fibrosis,which is a crucial hallmark of chronic pancreatitis(CP)and its formidable associated disease,pancreatic cancer(PC).Hence,anti-fibrotic therapy has been identified as a novel therapeutic strategy for treating CP and PC by targeting *** of the anti-fibrotic agents have been limited to phaseⅠ/Ⅱclinical trials involving vitamin analogs,which are abundant in medicinal plants and have proved to be promising for clinical *** use of phytomedicines,as new anti-fibrotic agents,has been applied to a variety of complementary and alternative *** aim of this review was to present a focused update on the selective new potential anti-fibrotic agents,including curcumin,resveratrol,rhein,emodin,green tea catechin derivatives,metformin,eruberin A,and ellagic acid,in combating PSC in CP and PC *** aimed to describe the mechanism(s)of the phytochemicals used,either alone or in combination,and the associated molecular *** of them were tested in PC models with similar mechanism of actions,and curcumin was tested *** research may explore the issues of bioavailability,drug design,and nano-formulation,in order to achieve successful clinical outcomes with promising activity and tolerability.

Fabrication Parameter Optimization for a multilayer Photovoltaic Cell based on the Heterojunction: Zinc(II)-meso-Tetrakis(4-bromophenyl) Porphyrins/Fullerenes

The photoelectric properties of multilayer organic photovoltaic cells (OPV cells) were studied. The active organic layers consisted of a planar heterojunction between a layer of meso-Tetrakis(4-bromoPhenyl) Zinc(II) Porphyrin (brPhPZn) as electron donor (ED) and a layer fullerene molecules. The devices were fabricated in a high vacuum by thermal sublimation, a technique that allows multilayer devices realization easily by successive depositions, and it does not require solvents, achieving purer films with reproducible characteristics. Taking into account that the anodic contact, a key factor for cell efficiency, is favored by the inclusion of a thin anodic buffer layer (AbL), the effect on the yield after including one or two (AbL): moO3 or moO3-CuI layers was studied. The cell which has the best photovoltaic characteristics has a brPhPZn (ED) thickness of only 12.5 nm. This small thickness is related with the low conductivity of this organic molecule. On the other hand, including a thin moO3-CuI bilayer increased, such device’s efficiency in a 200%, with regard to a cell without AbL, getting for one cell ITO/moO3-CuI/brPhPZn/C60/Alq3/Al, with a 1.03% yield.

basin Groundwater Recharge and Discharge in the Gully Erosion Prone Areas of Anambra, Nigeria

Anambra State of Nigeria is ravaged by ecological hazards of gully erosion and landslides. Over 450 active gully and landslide sites with depths ranging from 5 m to over 120 m are concentrated on both sides of the Awka-Nanka-Umuchu-Orlu cuesta. The Idemili River and Odo River form the major drainage basins of the area. The geomorphic characteristic of the cuesta/escarpment is a major controlling factor in groundwater recharge and discharge within the drainage basins. Rise in aquifer levels result in hydrogeotechnical implications of gully development and landslides. The calculated values of hydraulic properties of conductivity and transmissivity range from 1.20×10^-1 to 5.93×10^-1 cm/s and 1.15×10^5-13.05×10.3 m^2/s respectively. The values of groundwater velocity and groundwater discharge were 82 *** and 2.96×10^6 m^*** The plasticity index of the soil in the gully prone areas is relatively low ranging from 12.50-36.57%. The unique features of the geologic formations together with obtained aquifer characteristics favour gully/landslide hazards in the area.

Effects of Plastic Deformation and Stresses on Dilatation duringthe martensitic Transformation in a b-bearing Steel

To provide data for improved modelling of the behaviour of steel components in a simultaneous forming and quenching process, the effects of plastic deformation and stresses on dilatation during the martensitic transformation in a b-bearing steel were investigated. It was found that plastic deformation of austenite at high temperatures enhances ferrite formation significantly, and consequently, the dilatation decreases markedly even at a cooling rate of 280'C/s. The created ferritic-martensitic microstructure possesses clearly lower hardness and strength than the martensitic structure. Elastic stresses cause the preferred orientation in martensite to be formed so that diametric dilatation can increase by nearly 200% under axial compression.
