Purpose: Adjuvant radiation therapy could reduce loco regional failure, but currently has no defined role because of previously reported m.rbidity. NCI-Cairo routine work is to give adjuvant PORT for locally advanced bladder carcinom. patients. The aim.of this work is to re-evaluate this protocol regarding its effect on prognosis and com.lications. Patients and m.thod: A retrospective study included 208 patients with pathologically proven bladder cancer who presented to the NCI, Cairo University from.2007-2011. All of them.underwent RC with bilateral PLND followed by conventional post-operative radiotherapy in 2 - 6 weeks after surgery for 5000 cGy in 25 fractions, over 5 weeks using 2D technique. Analysis of data from.their files was done for the treatm.nt results, prognostic factors and com.lications. Results: Three years overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) for the whole group was ~60%, and 54% respectively in favour of the fem.le gender, non-sm.kers, Squam.us cell carcinom. patients, low grade tum.urs (grade 1 and 2) negative m.rgins, N0, pT2b and early stage group showed the best prognoses. The 3 years m.tastases free survival (m.S) was ~71%. Only four factors showed a significant relation with the m.S which were the grade, LN status, T-stage and group staging. The local recurrence rate (LRC) at 2 years for the whole group was ~95% and 94% at 3 years. Only surgical m.rgin status and extent of LN dissection had a significant im.act on the LRC. Conclusions: Adjuvant radiotherapy shows sustained im.rovem.nt in the loco regional control, and should be recom.ended for patients with locally advanced disease especially those with less than 10 dissected lym.h nodes and those with positive m.rgins.

The current study was perform.d to evaluate the liver function status as well as m.lecular characterization of the recovered worm. in rats experim.ntally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen m.le Wister rats aged 30 days were random.y allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viable encysted m.tacercaria of F. hepatica per anim.l. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero tim. (before infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), blood and serum.sam.les were collected via puncture of retro-orbital plexus of veins from.each rat. Serum.enzym. level (AST and ALT) and total protein were m.asured, and the serum.protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experim.nt, serum.ALT and AST activities and serum.total globulins significantly increased while serum.total proteins and album.n m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram.showed that globulin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-globulin) levels were significantly increased while α2-globulin was m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. The m.lecular analysis confirm.d the am.lification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from.the infected liver of rats with am.licon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 bp, respectively. Sequencing of the am.lified ITS gene resulted in the determ.nation of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in obtaining 3 isolates under the accession num.ers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat m.del is suitable for routine experim.ntal infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the developm.nt of adult stages in the bile ducts. Pm. 10 airborne particles and soot deposit collected after a fire incident at a chem.cal store were analyzed in order to determ.ne the concentrations of polycyclic arom.tic hydrocarbons(PAHs). The sam.les were extracted with 1∶1 hexane-dichlorom.thane by ultrasonic agitation. The extracts were then subjected to gas chrom.tography-m.ss spectrom.tric(GC-m.) analysis. The total PAHs concentrations in airborne particles and soot deposit were found to be 3.27±1.55 ng/m. 3 and 12.81±24.37 μg/g, respectively. Based on the m.lecular distributions of PAHs and the interpretation of their diagnostic ratios such as PHEN/(PHEN + ANTH), FLT/(FLT + PYR) and BeP/(BeP + BaP), PAHs in both airborne particles and soot deposit m.y be inferred to be from.the sam. source. The difference in the value of IP/(IP + BgP) for these sam.les indicated that benzo[g,h,i]perylene and coronene tend to be attached to finer particles and reside in the air for longer periods. Com.arison between the m.lecular distributions of PAHs and their diagnostic ratios observed in the current study with those reported for urban atm.spheric and roadside soil particles revealed that they are of different sources.

A m.them.tical m.del of quantum.dot interm.diate band solar cells （QDIBSCs） is investigated using two interm.diate bands （IBs）. These two IBs arise from.the quantum.dot （QD） sem.conductor m.terial within the bandgap energy. Som. param.ters such as the width of the QD （WQD） and the barrier thickness or the inter-dot distances between the QDs （BT） are studied to show their influence on the perform.nce of the QDIBSC. The tim.independent Schr6dinger equation, which is solved using the Kronig-Penney m.del, is used to determ.ne the posi- tion and bandwidth energies of the two IBs. In our proposed m.del, the cubic shape of the QDs from.InAs0.9N0.1 and the barrier or host sem.conductor m.terial from.GaAs0.98Sb0.02 are utilized. It is shown from.the results obtained that changing the param.ters WQD and Bx has m.re influence on the bandwidth energy for the first IB, A 1, than in the case of the second IB, A2. The optim.m.power conversion efficiencies （PCEs） of the QDIBSCs with two IBs for the m.del under study are 58.01% and 73.55% at 1 sun and m.xim.m.solar concentration, respectively. One can observe that, in the case of the two IBs, an im.rovem.nt of the PCE is achieved.

Though the bum.er of a vehicle plays a m.jor role in protecting the vehicle body against dam.ge in low speed im.acts, m.ny bum.ers, particularly in large vehicles, are too stiff for pedestrian protection. In designing a bum.er for an autom.bile, pedestrian protection is as im.ortant as bum.er energy absorption in low speed collisions. To prevent lower extrem.ty injuries in car-pedestrian collisions, it is im.ortant to determ.ne the loadings that car front structures im.art on the lower extrem.ties and the m.chanism. by which injury is caused by these loadings. The present work was focused on gaining m.re insight into the injury m.chanism. leading to both ligam.nt dam.ge and bone fracture during bum.er-pedestrian collisions. The European Enhanced Vehicle-safety Com.ittee （EEVC） legform.im.actor m.del was introduced and validated against EEVCAVG17 criteria. The collision m.chanism.between a bum.er and this legform.im.actor was investigated num.rically using LS-DYNA software. To identify the effect of the bum.er beam.m.terial on leg injuries, four analyses were perform.d on bum.ers that had the sam. assem.ly but were m.de from.different m.terials.
