Coronary leukocyte activation in relation to progression of coronary artery disease

Leukocyte activation has been linked to atherogenesis, but there is little in vivo evidence for its role in the progression of atherosclerosis. We evaluated the predictive value for progression of coronary artery disease （CAD） of leukocyte activation markers in the coronary circulation. Monocyte and neutrophil CDllb, neutrophil CD66b expression and intracellular neutrophil myeloperoxidase （MPO） in the coronary arteries were determined by flow cytometry in patients undergoing coronary angiography. The primary outcome included fatal and nonfatal myocardial infarction or arterial vascular intervention due to unstable angina pectoris. In total 99 subjects who were included, 70 had CAD at inclusion （26 patients had single-vessel disease, 18 patients had two- vessel disease and 26 patients had three-vessel disease）. The median follow-up duration was 2242 days （interquartile range： 2142-2358）. During follow-up, 13 patients （13%） developed progression of CAD. Monoeyte CDllb, neutrophil CDllb and CD66b expression and intraceilular MPO measured in blood obtained from the coronary arteries were not associated with the progression of CAD. These data indicate that coronary monocyte CDllb, neutrophil CDllb and CD66b expression and intracellular MPO do not predict the risk of progression of CAD.

BACKGROUND After an esophagectomy, the stomach is most commonly used to restore continuity of the upper gastrointestinal tract. These esophago-gastric anastomoses are prone to serious complications such as leakage associated with high morbidity and mortality. Graft perfusion is considered to be an important predictor for anastomotic integrity. Based on the current literature we believe Indocyanine green fluorescence angiography(ICGA) is an easy assessment tool for gastric tube(GT) perfusion, and it might predict anastomotic leakage(AL).AIM To evaluate feasibility and effectiveness of ICGA in GT perfusion assessment and as a predictor of *** This study was designed according to the PRISMA guidelines and registered in the PROSPERO database. PubMed and EMBASE were independently searched by 2 reviewers for studies presenting data on intraoperative ICGA GT perfusion assessment during esophago-gastric reconstruction after *** outcomes such as feasibility, complications, intraoperative surgical changes based on ICGA findings, quantification attempts, anatomical data and the impact of ICGA on postoperative anastomotic complications, were collected by 2 independent researchers. Impeller hub corner separation flow(IHCS)has a significant influence on energy conversion of the bulb tubular pump,and its unsteady characteristics are investigated with CFD-based *** generation mechanism and power loss characteristics of IHCS are investigated by the entropy production method and pressure fluctuation *** main cause can be attributed to the large transverse pressure gradient near the hub at the trailing edge of the impeller,which is aggravated by the circumferential movement trend and the diffuser reverse flow,while the IHCS is significantly weakened with increased flow *** undesirable flow behavior is more likely to cause a significant increase in energy loss near the hub region compared to that in the rim *** relative vortex stretching induced by the velocity gradient is the main cause of the horn-like vortex(HLV),and its intensity and resulting energy loss tend to decrease along the vortex *** HLV changes the dominant frequency of the pressure fluctuations in the nearby flow field,the value of which increases from 1fr(the blade passing frequency)to 2fr with increased amplitude,mainly due to the lower pressure regions on the impeller suction surface(SS)and HLV vortex *** to the effect of rotor-stator interaction(RSI),the HLVs generated between two adjacent impeller blades are cut into several sections by the diffuser vanes and propagate and dissipate along the mainstream direction.

What can natural edges of gallery forests teach us about woody community performance in sharp ecotones?

Small-Scale Mineralogical Heterogeneity from Variations in Phase Assemblages in the Transition Zone and D" Layer Predicted by Convection Modelling

Small-scale heterogeneity in the deep mantle is concentrated in the upper-mantle transition zone （TZ）, in the depth range 410-660 km and also at the bottom 250 km D＂ region. This encourages a more detailed investigation of the potential for seismic reflectivity imaging by modelling heterogeneous structures in mantle convection models including phase transitions of the TZ and D＂ regions. We applied finite elements with variable spacing near the boundary layers in 2-D cylindrical geometry that allow for sufficient spatial resolution. We investigated several models including an extended Boussinesq （EBA） model, focused on the D＂ region, and a compressible （ALA） model for the TZ region. The results for the D＂ region show typical lens-shaped structures of post-perovskite （PPV） embedded in the perovskite （PV） background mantle, where the thickness of the lenses, at 200-400 km, strongly depends on the Clapeyron slope of the PV-PPV transition. A second phase transition （double crossing） occurs in case the core temperature is higher than the intercept temperature Ti. Our phase-dependent rheology results in contrasting effective viscosity between PV and PPV. Our model results reveal a distinctly clear mechanical weakening of the PPV lenses with about an order of magnitude lower viscosity. The shear wave-speed distributions computed from our convection results are strongly correlated with the heterogeneous distribution of the mineral phase. Gradients in the seismic wave-speed that are the target of seismological reflectivity imaging are clearly revealed. The wave-speed results show a clear resolution of the top and bottom interfaces of the PPV lenses. Our ALA model for the TZ is based on a thermodynamical model for the magnesium end- member of an olivine-pyroxene mantle. The model predicts a much more complex distribution of mineral phases, compared to our D＂ results, in agreement with the greater number of mineral phases involved in the olivine-pyroxene phase diagram for the P

Recently N-glycosylation was found to be required for the postembryonic development and metamorphosis of the holometabolous beetle Tribolium castaneum. However, the role of N-glycosylation in the development of hemimetabolous insects is unknown. To further elucidate the role of N-glycosylation in the development of insects, a functional characterization of the N-glycosylation-related genes (NGRGs) was performed in a model insect for hemimetabolous development, namely the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens. In this project, we report the effects of RNAi-mediated silencing of 15 NGRGs on the postembryonic development of N. lugens. Two major observations were made. First, interruption of the early steps of N-glycan processing led to a lethal phenotype during the transition from nymph to adult as was observed in T. castaneum. Second, we report here on an essential function for the α-1,6-fucosyl transferase in the ecdysis event of N. lugens between nymphal instars, since gene-silencing by RNAi led to failure of ecdysis and subsequent mortality of the treated insect.
