Middle-late Holocene environment change induced by climate and human based on multi-proxy records from the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River,eastern China

Our knowledge about the interaction between human activities and the environment in the middle-late Holocene remains *** C1 in Lake Chaohu from the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River (MLYR),eastern China,provides an opportunity to investigate vegetation and climate changes,human activities,and East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) evolution since 5100 *** *** variables are assessed based on radiocarbon dating,pollen and charcoal records,and magnetic susceptibility (χ_(lf)),median grain size and *** reveal a hiatus in sedimentation between 2080 and 730 *** BP in the western part of Lake Chaohu,which is common in most lakes in the *** and deciduous broadleaved mixed forest retreated gradually after 3650 *** BP,and was replaced by secondary Pinus forest after at least 730 *** *** agricultural activities and vegetation clearance are first detected at 2520 *** *** settlements expanded from the lake front wetlands (during the period 2520–2080 *** BP) to remote high-altitude areas(2080–400 *** BP),and then returned to the lake front to reclaim the wetlands and lake (after 400 *** BP).A gradual trend of recessional EASM strength from 4300 *** BP and centennial-scale variations of EASM during the period5100–3650 *** BP are *** reduction of summer insolation,southward shift of the ITCZ,and El Ni?o Southern Oscillation may control the intensity of EASM and climate on a large regional scale.

目前对中晚全新世人类活动和环境之间相互作用的认识还不全面.中国东部长江中下游地区巢湖C1钻孔为研究5100cal.a BP以来的植被演替、气候变化、人类活动和东亚夏季风演化提供了良好载体.基于放射性碳测年、孢粉和炭屑记录以及磁化率、中值粒径和总磷等指标分析,本文获得以下结果:巢湖西湖区在2080~730cal.a BP期间存在沉积间断,该现象在长江中下游多数湖泊中都有发生.研究区常绿、落叶阔叶混交林从3650cal.a BP开始逐渐衰退,到至少730cal.a BP后逐渐被次生松林取代;首次强烈的人类活动和植被破坏出现在大约2520cal.a BP.人类居住地从滨湖湿地(在2520~2080cal.a BP期间)扩展到远离湖泊的高海拔地区(在2080~400cal.a BP期间),再返回滨湖一带以开垦湿地和湖泊(自400cal.a BP之后).夏季风强度自4300cal.a BP以来呈现逐渐衰退的趋势,在5100~3650cal.a BP期间经历了百年尺度的波动.夏季日照的减少、热带辐合带(ITCZ)的南移以及厄尔尼诺与南方涛动(ENSO)可能在大范围内控制了东亚夏季风强度和区域气候变化.

Climate refugia along Lake Superior’s shores:disjunct arctic-alpine plants rely on cool shoreline temperatures but are restricted to highly exposed habitat under climate warming

Climate refugia can serve as a remnant habitat or stepping stones for species dispersal under climate *** largest freshwater lake by surface area,Lake Superior,USA and Canada,serves as a model system for understanding cooling-mediated local refugia,as its cool water temperatures and wave action have maintained shoreline habitats suitable for southern disjunct populations of arctic-alpine plants since ***,we seek to explain spatial patterns and environmental drivers of arctic-alpine plant refugia along Lake Superior’s shores,and assess future risk to refugia under moderate(+3.5℃)and warmest(+5.7℃)climate warming ***,we examined how the interactive effects of summer surface water temperatures and wind affected onshore temperatures,resulting in areas of cooler ***,we developed an ecological niche model for the presence of disjunct arctic-alpine refugia(pooling 1253 occurrences from 58 species)along the lake’s ***,we fit species distribution models for 20 of the most common arctic-alpine disjunct species and predicted presence to identify refugia ***,we used the two climate warming scenarios to predict changes in the presence of refugia and disjunct *** type,elevation above water,inland distance,July land surface temperature from MODIS/Terra satellite and near-shore depth of water were the best predictors of disjunct ***,we predicted 2236 km of the shoreline(51%)as disjunct refugia habitat for at least one species under current conditions,but this was reduced to 20% and 7% with moderate(894 km)and warmest(313 km)climate change projections.

Anal cancer screening in women with a history of human papillomavirusrelated lower genital tract cancers:a pilot study

Geomorphological monitoring of a highly dynamic estuary using oblique aerial photographs

Evaluation of Continuous Peripheral Nerve Block in Total Knee Arthroplasty Post-Operative Pain Management

Total knee arthroplasty （TKA） can contribute to significant pain for the patient. Continuous peripheral nerve blocks （CPNBs） have been shown to be efficacious in treating post-surgical pain. The objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of a bupivacaine 0.2% solution administered via CPNB plus standard of care （SOC） compared to SOC alone. SOC for this institution includes the use of opioid analgesics, non-opioid analgesics, regional anesthesia, and other adjuncts. The primary outcome is the overall use of post-operative pain medication. Secondary outcomes include the average length of stay and average pain scores. Methods： A data surveillance system was used to retrospectively identify all patients who underwent TKA with and without the use of CPNB. To be included, patients must have been male or female ≥ 18 years of age who underwent TKA from September 2016 through September 2017. And 70 patients were included in both the CPNB and SOC groups. A retrospective chart review determined the following data： The types and amounts of pain medications used, the length of stay, and patient-reported pain scores. Results： There was an increase in the amount of as needed pain medication use in the CPNB ＋ SOC vs. SOC group with 12.97 administrations vs. 12.67 administrations respectively. Length of stay was increased in the CPNB ＋ SOC vs. SOC group with 3.65 days in the CPNB ＋ SOC group vs. 3.5 days in the SOC group. Pain scores were increased in the CPNB ＋ SOC group with a patient average pain score of 4.5 vs. the SOC groups average pain score of 4.4. Conclusions： The use of a 0.2% bupivacaine solution administered via CPNB in addition to SOC resulted in increased utilization of as needed pain medication administration, increased average length of stay, and increased average pain scores when compared to SOC alone.

Cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness associations with older adolescent cognitive control

Soluble urokinase-plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) and natural phosphorylcholine IgM antibodies in patients at clinical onset of diabetes mellitus

We have studied the presence of novel inflammatory markers as soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) and natural IgM antibodies directed against phosphorylcholine (αPC-IgM) in Swedish diabetic patients (n = 164) and in healthy control subjects (n = 41). SuPAR is expressed by several types of immune cells and has been shown to be a marker of disease severity and predict mortality during infections. It has also been associated with low-grade inflammation. High levels of αPC-IgM have been shown to negatively associate with the risk of cardiovascular disease and vascular inflammation. This has been suggested to be more common among diabetic patients than in the background population. The patients were 15-34 years of age and were included in the diabetes incidence study in Sweden (DISS). They were all clinically diagnosed to have either T1D (n = 82) or T2D (n = 82). All subjects were matched in gender and age. Commercially available ELISA was used to detect suPAR and αPC-IgM. We found that suPAR levels were higher in diabetic patients (n = 164, Q2 = 4.5 mg/L) compared to in healthy control subjects (n = 41, Q2 = 2.7 mg/L;p 2 = 4.9) compared to in patients classified with T1D (n = 82;p=0.0002). The difference between T2D and T1D was even more obvious when LADA (n = 17) was extracted from the T2D group. SuPAR levels did also correlate with BMI (rs = 0.50;p s = 0.23;p s = 0.58;p < 0.0001). Titers of αPC-IgM did not significantly differ between patients and controls. This is the first study to show the difference in suPAR levels between T1D and T2D patients. The high levels of suPAR in T2D patients indicate a strong activation of the immune system and its relation to disease progression needs to be further investigated. However, our data do not support a role for αPC-IgM in the development of diabetes.
