Diabetic neuropathies are a family of nerve disorders caused by diabetes. Symptoms of the disease include nerve palsy, mononeuropathy, mononeuropathy multiplex, diabetic amyotrophy, painful polyneuropathy, autonomic neu- ropathy, and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. In this study, type 2 diabetes in rats was induced with nicotinamide- streptozotocin. Drug treatment was initiated on the d 15, with the combination regimen of metformin, pioglitazone and glimipiride or metformin and sitagliptin or sitagliptin, amitriptyline and sitagliptin and led to significantly im- proved glycemic control, increased grip strength and paw jumping response on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Signif- icant increases in blood protein levels and decreases in urinary protein levels were observed in the animals treated with the different regimens on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Combined treatment of streptozotocin and nicotinamide caused marked degeneration of nerve cells, while administration of metformin and sitagliptin showed tissue regen- eration and no body weight gain. In conclusion, treatment with sitagliptin and sitagliptin combined with metformin or amitriptyline results in no body weight gain, but causes an increase in grip strength and pain sensitivity, exhibits neural protection, and reverses the alteration of biochemical parameters in rats with streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced type 2 diabetes.

Venous outflow reconstruction in living donor liver transplantation:Dealing with venous anomalies

The reconstruction of the vascular outflow tract of partial liver grafts has received considerable attention in the past, especially in the setting of right liver grafts with undrained segments. Hepatic venous outflow reconstruction is an important factor for successful living donor liver transplantation outcome. However, in presence of undrained anterior sector and presence of multiple short hepatic veins that drain substantial portions of liver, outflow reconstruction without backtable venoplasty may lead to severe graft congestion and subsequent graft dysfunction. Various backtable venoplasty techniques in presence of multiple hepatic veins that can be used in either right- or leftlobe liver transplantation are devised to ensure a single, wide outflow channel. In this overview, various techniques to overcome the hepatic venous variations of liver allograft and outflow reconstruction are discussed.

Development of Nanostructured Antireflection Coatings for EO/IR Sensor and Solar Cell Applications

Electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors and photovoltaic power sources are being developed for a variety of defense and commercial applications. One of the critical technologies that will enhance both EO/IR sensor and photovoltaic module performance is the development of high quality nanostructure-based antireflection coatings. In this paper, we review our work on advanced antireflection structures that have been designed by using a genetic algorithm and fabricated by using oblique angle deposition. The antireflection coatings are designed for the wavelength range of 250 nm to 2500 nm and an incidence angle between 00 and 400. These nanostructured antireflection coatings are shown to enhance the optical transmission through transparent windows over a wide band of interest and minimize broadband reflection losses to less than one percent, a substantial improvement over conventional thin-film antireflection coating technologies.

KIFs(kinesin superfamily proteins)是依赖于微管的马达分子,在细胞内承担膜性细胞器或生物大分子复合物的运输作用。KIF3是由KIF3A／KIF3B／KAP3构成的向微管正极运输膜泡的马达分子。 KAP3(kinsein superfamily-associated prctein 3)为KIF3复合体的非马达亚基,负责调节KIF3马达蛋白与其货物间的相互连接。我们利用Cre／loxP介导的条件性基因靶技术(Cre／loxP-mediated conditional gene targeting strategy),建立了KAP3条件性基因剔除小鼠(conditional knockout mouse)。发现在神经系统的发育过程中,KAP3与维持神经前体细胞分裂和细胞间粘连的平衡相关。KIF3与N-cadherin和β-catenin结合,行使post-Golgi运输N-cadherin的功能。在KAP3缺失的细胞中,N-cadherin的亚细胞定位紊乱。在条件性基因剔除小鼠的脑中,由于N-cadherin不能正常定位而导致神经上皮组织的发育异常,并形成成室管膜瘤样结构。上述结果提示KIF3／KAP3具有抑制肿瘤形成的功能,为成室管膜瘤的研究提供了动物模型。

BACKGROUND Recent studies have indicated the use of baricitinib in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)***,the use of baricitinib in COVID-19 patients is unclear so *** To determine the precise role of baricitinib in the mortality of COVID-19 *** The relevant studies were searched in PubMed,Google scholar,and Clinical trials registries till July 13,2021 and sorted out based on inclusion and exclusion *** quality of studies was assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.A random-effect model was used,and the pooled estimate was calculated as the odds ratio with a 95%confidence interval using Rev Man *** A total of 11 studies(4 observational and 7 clinical trials)were found relevant for *** overall estimate measure in terms of odds ratio for observational studies was 0.42[0.11,1.67],whereas for clinical trials it was 0.37[0.09,1.46],indicating a non-significant reduction in COVID-19 patient deaths in the baricitinib group versus the non-baricitinib *** More studies are required to confirm the role of baricitinib in the deaths of COVID-19 patients.
