This work has investigated the scaleup potential of microbial fuel cells(MFCs)under stacking *** was done in batch mode and continuous *** feeding mode stacks were operated in electrical series(S)and parallel(P)*** feeding mode stacks were kept in electrically parallel mode with different hydrodynamic *** two continuous stacks were connected hydrodynamically in series(*** Dependent;PD)and parallel(*** Independent;PID)*** performance of the continuous stacks was evaluated on the basis of COD consumption rate,power generation and coulombic *** obtained highest power(0.47 mW)which was approximately 3.6 times that of PD configuration(0.13 mW).The rate of COD consumption was also highest in PID stack(3091.75 mg·L^(-1)·d ^(-1)).Coulombic efficiency of the PID stack was 14.26%which was approximately 292.8%of the PD *** results confirmed that the parallel electrical connection hybridized with the independent hydrodynamic flow gives the best possible results when working with stacking of MFCs.

Photocatalysis of water with and without ultrasound was studied using rGO supported CdS catalyst utilizing visible light. A higher hydrogen production was observed when ultrasound was used. This is attributed to a faster removal of bubbles of hydrogen from the surface of photocatalyst due to the mechanical energy associated with ultrasound overcoming surface tension. It has been further reported that the rate of hydrogen production decreased with time due to reversible deactivation of catalyst. This has been attributed to decrease in rate of hydrogen desorption with time.

The laser-induced effects on dielectric properties of chalcogenide glass(Ch Gs) have been present in a glassy system of Se–Te–Sn–Cd for possible applications in optics and optoelectronics such as light-controlled capacitance-based touch displays. The temperature/frequency dependence of dielectric relaxation before and after laser exposure was investigated by using laser sources of different wavelengths(405 nm, 532 nm, 690 nm, and 785 nm). The result showed the presence of laser-induced residual effects on dielectric properties(dielectric constant/loss and a.c. conductivity) after the exposure of continuous-wave laser sources of chosen *** analysis indicates that the modification in the meta-stable state due to self-organization is the feasible mechanism of observed persistent light-sensing effects.

The blast-induced ground vibrations can be significantly controlled by varying the location and orien-tation of point of interest from blast *** blast waves generated due to individual holes get super-imposed and resultant peak particle velocity(PPV)*** the orientation sequence of holes blasts on site,the superimposition angle of wave changes and hence results in significant variation in resultant *** orientation with respect to the initiation of blasts resulting in lowest PPV needs to be identified for any *** knowing the PPV contour of vibration waves in mine sites,it is possible to reduce the vibration on the structures by changing the initiation *** this paper,experimental blasts were conducted at two different mine sites and the PPV values were recorded at different ori-entations from the blast site and its initiation *** PPV contours were drawn to identify the orientation with least and highest PPV generation *** was found that by merely changing the initi-ation sequence of blasts with respect to the sensitive structure or point of interest,the PPV values can be reduced significantly up to 76.9%.

The presence of sub-standard ships has been a long-standing concern in the maritime domain and a slew of measures are implemented to tide over the *** is a key to verifying the success of measures adopted to enhance maritime safety and protect the marine *** there is an abundance of literature based on Port State Control inspections it is argued that in addition to the prevailing indicators of flag State performance deeper insights are to be gained by exploring indicators in other areas such as findings of IMO member State *** paper proposes simple and intuitive indicators in conjunction with existing indicators to identify trends in flag State performance and explores application of the indicators to a select set of member States in Latin-America *** paper concludes that the proposed indicators have the potential for global application.

Assessment of biomass and net primary productivity of a dry tropical forest using geospatial technology

This study quantifies biomass, aboveground and belowground net productivity, along with additional environmental factors over a 2-3 year period in Barnawapara Sanctuary of Chhattisgarh, India through satellite remotesensing and GIS techniques. Ten sampling quadrates20×20, 5×5 and 1×1 m were randomly laid for overstorey (OS), understorey (US) and ground vegetation(GS), respectively. Girth of trees was measured at breast height and collar diameters of shrubs and herbs at 0.1 m height. Biomass was estimated using allometric regression equations and herb biomass by harvesting. Net primary productivity (NPP) was determined by Ssumming biomass increment and litter crop values. Aspect and slope influenced the vegetation types, biomass and NPP in different forests. Standing biomass and NPP varied from 18.6 to101.5 Mg ha^(-1) and 5.3 to 12.7 Mg ha^(-1) a^(-1), respectively,in different forest types. The highest biomass was found in dense mixed forest, while net production recoded in Teak forests. Both were lowest in degraded mixed forests of different forest types. OS, US and GS contributed 90.4, 8.7and 0.7%, respectively, for the total mean standing biomass in different forests. This study developed spectral models for the estimation of biomass and NPP using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and other vegetation *** study demonstrated the potential of geospatial tools for estimation of biomass and net productivity of dry tropical forest ecosystem.

Influence of preparation route and slip casting conditions on titania and barium titanate ceramics

Titania （TiO2） and barium titanate （BaTiO3） were synthesized using three different dicarboxylates, which included oxalate, malate and tartarate. These powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron micrographs, BET specific surface area and particle size distribution. Their properties depended to a great extent on the nature of the precursor. The titania and barium titanate powders obtained from the tartarate precursor were found to be good for slip casting. Slips of these oxides with different solids contents were prepared at different pH values using both distilled water and ethanol as the dispersing agent and also with and without deflocculant. The theological behaviors of the suspensions were then determined, and the slip, green and sedimentation bulk densities were measured. The minimum viscosities were observed at pH 8.2 for the TiO2-water and pH 10.2 for the BaTiO3-water system.

This study presents a novel approach for simultaneous inversion of the key reservoir parameters like horizontal permeability,vertical permeability,skin,and boundary distances for spatial distribution across the grid cells in a 3D single well reservoir model(SWRM).These parameters are first estimated from the standard pressure transient analysis of well test pressure and rate data,which also act as a priori for the inverse problem.A field-worthy layer cake geological model is prepared based on the prior information obtained from pressure transient analysis,followed by a sequential flow simulation of field well test *** simulation results provide the model pressure versus rate data as the synthetic data for this study.A cost function is defined incorporating the well test pressure data and model pressure data,which would determine the *** inversion process is to optimize the spatial distribution of reservoir parameters to minimize the difference between the measured pressure transient data and the modelled one,which is obtained from the multiphase fluid flow simulator that solves the implicit black-oil fluid-flow diffusivity equations at every step.A Gauss-Newton(GN)inversion scheme is used for the *** reliability of inversion results depends on the accuracy of priori reservoir parameters fed to the solver,which can be refined if required through uncertainty parameter optimization(UPO).This approach helps to obtain a faster and reliable update of reservoir parameters in a layer cake homogeneous geomodel,hereby introducing the required *** increases the confidence and reliability of a geomodel,which is further used for various production prediction strategies.
