BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus(CMV)infections can cause significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised *** targets dysfunctional *** rituximab(RTX)therapy can cause B-lymphocyte dysfunction,increasing CMV ***,CMV infections present with critical illness such as septic *** SUMMARY A 64-year-old African American woman presented with generalized weakness and non-bloody watery diarrhea of 4-6 weeks *** did not have nausea,vomiting or,abdominal *** had been on monthly RTX infusions for neuromyelitis *** was admitted for septic shock due to *** investigations suggested pancytopenia and serology detected significantly elevated CMV *** treatment led to disease *** This case illustrates an extremely rare case of CMV colitis associated with RTX use presenting with septic *** suspicion for rare opportunistic infections is imperative in individuals with long-term RTX use.

In recent years,the liquid membrane process has been widely investigated to remove rare earth ***,transport modeling of this process requires the accurate values of several parameters,which are difficult to ***,the accurate simulation of this process is a challenging *** this study,the artificial neural network(ANN)based approach is used to model the liquid membrane process for removing *** results from a previous study were used to train the ***,the number of neurons in the hidden layer was *** minimum mean squared error between experimental results and model predictions is found with ten *** predictions were successfully validated with experimental results with correlation factor(R)of 0.9987,which confirms the authenticity of the trained *** ANN was then used to study the effects of different operating parameters on transport *** higher volume ratio of membrane solution to feed solution(3-4)with 50-60 min of operation,higher feed pH(5),HCl concentration in stripping solution of 2 mol/L,and moderate concentration of carrier species(0.5 mol/L)with 0.5×10^(-4) mol/L dysprosium initial concentration are found to be optimum values of operating conditions for maximizing the transport rate.

Objective： Polygonaturn verticillatum （L） All. （Ruscaceae）, one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts （petroleum ether, dichloro- methane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous） from the rhizomes of the plant. Methods： Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increas- ing polarity （petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water）. The phenolic composi- tions, in terms of total phenolic content （TPC）, total flavonoid content （TFC） and total condensed tannin content （JTC）, were evaluated with the Folin-Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl and 2,2＇-azino-his（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid） assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2- yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anti- cancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC/MS） analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition （TPC, TFC and TFC） and different biological activities. Results： Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC （0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample）, TFC （0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample） and TTC （29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample）, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroform extract exhibited the strongest cyto- toxicity against the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 90 different phytoconstituents among the extracts. Friction and wear characteristics correlating the fiber reinforcement percentage of carbon–carbon (C/C) composites solely developed from petroleum pitch matrices were investigated. This study exhibits the tribo-characteristics of C/C composites developed in a single-step carbonization process for varying loads for the first time without a reimpregnation process. A pin-on-disc tribometer with a sliding speed of 0.5 m/s and loads of 5, 10, and 20 N with a flat tool grade stainless steel pin as a static partner was employed. Further, polarized light optical and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) were utilized for a morphological analysis. Elastic modulus and strength were determined by a compression test. A result analysis is conducted to analyze sliding wear accompanied with minor abrasion. The composites with a high percentage of reinforcement exhibit credible wear resistance and mechanical robustness.

A random variable X is said to have the skew-t distribution if its pdf is f(x) = 2g(x) G(λx ), where g(·) and G (·), respectively, denote the pdf and the cdf of the Student' s t distribution with degrees of freedom v. The moments of this distribution appear not to have been studied in detail. In this paper, we derive general expressions for the nth moment of X by considering the cases v odd and v even separately. These expressions turn out to involve sums of the Gauss hypergeometric function. We also provide closed form expressions for the moments of X for the particular cases v = 2,66666, 10.

The blood-brain barrier is a unique property of central nervous system blood vessels that protects sensitive central nervous system cells from potentially harmful blood *** mechanistic basis of this barrier is found at multiple levels,including the adherens and tight junction proteins that tightly bind adjacent endothelial cells and the influence of neighboring pericytes,microglia,and astrocyte *** addition,extracellular matrix components of the vascular basement membrane play a critical role in establishing and maintaining blood-brain barrier integrity,not only by providing an adhesive substrate for blood-brain barrier cells to adhere to,but also by providing guidance cues that strongly influence vascular cell *** extracellular matrix protein laminin is one of the most abundant components of the basement membrane,and several lines of evidence suggest that it plays a key role in directing blood-brain barrier *** this review,we describe the basic structure of laminin and its receptors,the expression patterns of these molecules in central nervous system blood vessels and how they are altered in disease states,and most importantly,how genetic deletion of different laminin isoforms or their receptors reveals the contribution of these molecules to blood-brain barrier function and ***,we discuss some of the important unanswered questions in the field and provide a“to-do”list of some of the critical outstanding experiments.

Role of inter-particle collision on solids acceleration in riser

Collision among particles plays a significant role in governing the structure of gas-solids flow in a riser, especially in the dense and acceleration region. The inter-particle collision is the major cause not only for the kinetic energy dissipation （in terms of additional pressure drop beyond the solids hold-up） but also for the control of solids acceleration （in terms of a balancing force to prevent a free acceleration of solids）. A neglect of the balancing force of inter-particle collision against the hydrodynamic force in the solids momentum equation would simply overestimate the solids acceleration or concentration while underestimate the axial gradient of pressure along the riser by a large margin, typically by up to two orders of magnitude. This paper aims to illustrate the importance of the collision on the characteristic of the gas-solids riser flow. Our analysis shows that the collision force should be of the same order of magnitude as that of the drag force in the dense and acceleration region, which can be far beyond that of gravitational force on solids. A simple formulation of the collision force is therefore proposed to bear a similar format of drag force, with regard to the dependence upon local solids *** the inclusion of the proposed correlation of collision force in the solids momentum equation, our model would be able to yield reasonable phase distributions of gas-solid flows, which can be validated, in a bulk range, against available measurements of solids volume fraction and axial gradient of pressure.
