Stone-scoring systems for predicting complications in percutaneous nephrolithotomy:A systematic review of the literature

Reliability of nephrolithometric nomograms in patients treated with minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy: A precision study

Objectives:The study aimed to evaluate quality of nephrolithometric nomograms to predict stone-free rates(SFRs)and complication rates(CRs)in case of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PNL).In the last decade,nomograms have been introduced to estimate the SFRs and CRs of ***,no data are available regarding their reliability in case of utilization of miniaturized *** we present a prospective multicentric study to evaluate reliability of Guy’s stone score(GSS),the stone size,tract length,obstruction,number of involved calyces,and essence of stone(S.T.O.N.E.)nephrolithometry score and Clinical Research Office of the Endourological Society(CROES)score in patients treated with minimally invasive ***:We evaluated SFRs and CRs of 222 adult patients treated with miniaturized *** were considered stone-free if no residual fragments of any size at post-operative unenhanced computed tomography *** demographics,SFRs,and CRs were reported and *** of nomograms were evaluated with the area under the curve(AUC).Results:We included 222 patients,the AUCs of GSS,CROES score,and *** score were 0.69(95%confidence interval[CI]0.61-0.78),0.64(95%CI 0.56-0.73),and 0.62(95%CI 0.52-0.71),*** SFRs,at multivariate binomial logistic regression,only the GSS had significance with an odds ratio of 0.53(95%CI 0.31e0.95,p=0.04).We did not find significant correlation with complications,with only a trend for ***:This is the first study evaluating nomograms in miniaturized *** still show good reliability;however,our data showed lower performances compared to standard *** emphasize the need of further studies to confirm this trend.A dedicated nomogram for minimally invasive PNL may be necessary.

We report the first high-repetition-rate generation and simultaneous characterization of nanosecond-scale return currents of kA-magnitude issued by the polarization of a target irradiated with a PW-class high-repetition-rate titanium:sapphire laser system at relativistic *** present experimental results obtained with the VEGA-3 laser at intensities from5×10^(18)to 1.3×10^(20)W cm^(-2).A non-invasive inductive return-current monitor is adopted to measure the derivative of return currents of the order of kA ns-1and analysis methodology is developed to derive return *** compare the current for copper,aluminium and Kapton targets at different laser *** data show the stable production of current peaks and clear prospects for the tailoring of the pulse shape,which is promising for future applications in highenergy-density science,for example,electromagnetic interference stress tests,high-voltage pulse response measurements and charged particle beam *** compare the target discharge of the order of hundreds of nC with theoretical predictions and a good agreement is found.

The recent achievement of fusion ignition with laser-driven technologies at the National Ignition Facility sets a historic accomplishment in fusion energy *** accomplishment paves the way for using laser inertial fusion as a viable approach for future energy *** has a unique opportunity to empower research in this field internationally,and the scientific community is eager to engage in this *** propose establishing a European programme on inertial-fusion energy with the mission to demonstrate laser-driven ignition in the direct-drive scheme and to develop pathway technologies for the commercial fusion *** proposed roadmap is based on four complementary axes:(ⅰ)the physics of laser-plasma interaction and burning plasmas;(ⅱ)high-energy high repetition rate laser technology;(ⅲ)fusion reactor technology and materials;and(ⅳ)reinforcement of the laser fusion community by international education and training *** foresee collaboration with universities,research centres and industry and establishing joint activities with the private sector involved in laser *** project aims to stimulate a broad range of high-profile industrial developments in laser,plasma and radiation technologies along with the expected high-level socio-economic impact.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus(SARS-CoV)-2 infection induces an exacerbated inflammation driven by innate immunity *** cells(DCs)play a key role in the defense against viral infections,for instance plasmacytoid DCs(pDCs),have the capacity to produce vast amounts of interferon-alpha(IFN-α).In COVID-19 there is a deficit in DC numbers and IFN-αproduction,which has been associated with disease *** this work,we described that in addition to the DC deficiency,several DC activation and homing markers were altered in acute COVID-19 patients,which were associated with multiple inflammatory ***,previously hospitalized and nonhospitalized patients remained with decreased numbers of CD1c+myeloid DCs and pDCs seven months after SARS-CoV-2 ***,the expression of DC markers such as CD86 and CD4 were only restored in previously nonhospitalized patients,while no restoration of integrinβ7 and indoleamine 2,3-dyoxigenase(IDO)levels were *** findings contribute to a better understanding of the immunological sequelae of COVID-19.

The second and final year of the Erasmus Plus programme’Innovative Education and Training in high power laser plasmas’,otherwise known as PowerLaPs,is *** PowerLaPs programme employs an innovative paradigm in that it is a multi-centre programme,where teaching takes place in five separate institutes with a range of different aims and styles of ***’in-class’time is limited to 4 weeks a year,and the programme spans 2 *** aims to train students from across Europe in theoretical,applied and laboratory skills relevant to the pursuit of research in laser plasma interaction physics and inertial confinement *** are intermingled with laboratory sessions and continuous assessment *** programme,which is led by workers from the Hellenic Mediterranean University and supported by co-workers from the Queen’s University Belfast,the University of Bordeaux,the Czech Technical University in Prague,Ecole Polytechnique,the University of Ioannina,the University of Salamanca and the University of York,has just finished its second and final *** Learning Teaching Training activities have been held at the Queen’s University Belfast,the University of Bordeaux,the Czech Technical University,the University of Salamanca and the Institute of Plasma Physics and Lasers of the Hellenic Mediterranean *** last of these institutes hosted two 2-week-long Intensive Programmes,while the activities at the other four universities were each 5 days in *** addition,a’Multiplier Event’was held at the University of Ioannina,which will be briefly *** this second year,the work has concentrated on training in both experimental diagnostics and simulation techniques appropriate to the study of plasma physics,high power laser matter interactions and high energy density *** nature of the programme will be described in detail,and some metrics relating to the activities carried out will be *** particular,this paper will f
