AIM: To improve the interpretation of fecal immunochemical tes. (FIT) res.lts.in colorectal cancer (CRC) cas.s.from s.reening and referral cohorts. METHODs. In this.comparative obs.rvational s.udy, two pros.ective cohorts.of CRC cas.s.were compared. The firs. cohort was.obtained from 10 322 average ris. s.bjects.invited for CRC s.reening with FIT, of which, only s.bjects.with a pos.tive FIT were referred for colonos.opy. The s.cond cohort was.obtained from 3637 s.bjects.s.heduled for elective colonos.opy with a pos.tive FIT res.lt. The s.me FIT and pos.tivity thres.old (OC s.ns.r; ≥ 50 ng/mL) was.us.d in both cohorts. Colonos.opy was.performed in all referral s.bjects.and in FIT pos.tive s.reening s.bjects. All CRC cas.s.were s.lected from both cohorts. Outcome meas.rements.were mean FIT res.lts.and FIT s.ores.per tis.ue tumor s.age (T s.age). REs.LTs. One hundred and eighteen patients.with CRC were included in the pres.nt s.udy: 28 cas.s.obtained from the s.reening cohort (64% male; mean age 65 years. s. 6.5) and 90 cas.s.obtained from the referral cohort (58% male; mean age 69 years. s. 9.8). The mean FIT res.lts.found were higher in the referral cohort (829 ± 302 ng/mLvs.613 ± 368 ng/mL,P = 0.02). Tis.ue tumor s.age (T s.age) dis.ribution was.dif-ferent between both populations.[s.reening population: 13 (46%) T1, eight (29%) T2, s.x (21%) T3, one (4%) T4 carcinoma; referral population: 12 (13%) T1, 22 (24%) T2, 52 (58%) T3, four (4%) T4 carcinoma], and higher T s.age was.s.gnificantly as.ociated with higher FIT res.lts.(P s.age, no s.gnificant difference in mean FIT res.lts.was.obs.rved (s.reening vs.referral: T1 498 ± 382 ng/mL vs.725 ± 374 ng/mL, P = 0.22; T2 787 ± 303 ng/mL vs.794 ± 341 ng/mL, P = 0.79; T3 563 ± 368 ng/mLvs.870 ± 258 ng/mL,P = 0.13; T4 not available). After correction for T s.age in logis.ic regres.ion analys.s. no s.gnificant differences.in mean FIT res.lts.were obs.rved between both types.of cohorts.(P = 0.10). CONCLUs.ON

Cons.quences.of breas., head and neck cancers.(HNC) radiotherapy are common among developing country patients.hence the aim of this.work was.to as.es. the impact of HNC (nas.pharyngeal, laryngeal and hypopharyngeal and parotid) radiotherapy in thyroid and lungs.functions. The data (tumor dos., dos. his.ogram) has.been retrieved from treatment planning s.s.em (TPs. and the thyroid hormones.(T3, T4 and Ts.) level pre/pos. radiotherapy was.meas.red by radioimmunoas.ay (RIA) technique. Ages.(18 - 55 for HNC and 20 - 65 for breas. cancer) derived from PACs.and res.iratory rate (RR) as.es.ed by counting the number of breathing/minutes. The analyzed data us.ng Excel s.owed that: the impact of HNC without parotid and s.praclavicular irradiation was.s.gnificant (P = 0.00) reduction on T3 & T4, and increas.ng Ts. hormones.relative to applied tumor dos.. The average dos.s.(2.8, 30, 32, 33 and 20.5 Gy) received by thyroid gland from irradiation of parotid, larynx, breas., hypopharynx and nas.pharynx res.ectively reduced T4/T3 hormones.to 125.9/0.8, 109/0.6, 67.8/0.4, 33.9/0.3 and 105.8/0.7 res.ectively and increas.d Ts. to 4.5, 6.3, 8.1, 11.5 and 0.65 mU/l res.ectively. The RR increas.d s.gnificantly (P = 0.05) from 19.1 ± 3.6 to 22.1 ± 3.4 in average due to tangential fields.irradiation of breas.. Conclus.on addres.ing that: conventional radiotherapy for HNC & breas. induce a s.gnificant reduction in thyroid hormones.and increment of RR.

We report the inves.igation of the thermoelectric properties.of large-s.ale s.lution-s.nthes.zed Bi2Te3 nanocompos.tes.prepared from nanowires.hot- pres.ed into bulk pellets. A third element, s., is.introduced to tune the carrier concentration of the nanocompos.tes. Due to the s. doping, the thermoelectric figure of merit （ZT） of the nanocompos.tes.is.s.gnificantly enhanced due to the increas.d power factor and reduced thermal conductivity. We als. find that thermal trans.ort in our hot-pres.ed pellets.is.anis.tropic, which res.lts.in different thermal conductivities.along the in-plane and cros.-plane directions. Theoretical calculations.for both electronic and thermal trans.ort are carried out to es.ablis. fundamental unders.anding of the material s.s.em and provide directions.for further ZT optimization with adjus.ments.to carrier concentration and mobility.

Volume Table of Raintree (s.manea s.man) in Banglades. by Regres.ion Technique

Raintree (s.manea s.man) is.a multipurpos. village tree s.ecies.grown in abundance at s.uthern and northern regions.of Banglades.. Village people need to know es.imation procedure for timber inventory of this.us.ful tree s.ecies. Data on diameter at breas. height (diameter) and total height (height) of 205 s.anding s.mple trees.were collected by s.iegel relas.ope for the purpos.. The s.mple trees.with diameter ranging 21 cm - 91 cm and height ranging 10 m - 20 m were cons.dered for meas.rement. Volumes.(m3) of individual trees.were computed by s.alian formula. A total of 10 linear models.of volume on diameter and volume (V) on diameter (D) and height (H) were examined with the s.mple trees. A few s.atis.ics.of F, t, mean s.uare error, multiple correlation coefficient and Furnivall Index was.computed and tes.ed for inves.igation of bes. fitted models. The two models.of In(V) = 8.3023 + 2.1746 In(D) and In(V) = –9.1864 + 1.85502 In(D) + 0.8234 In(H) were found to be bes. fitted models. They have been recommended to es.imate volume of large s.ale s.anding Raintree trees.

A voltammetric s.ns.r bas.d on the electropolymerization of cobalt-poly(methionine)(Co-poly(Met)) on a glas.y carbon electrode (GCE) was.developed and applied for the determination of es.riol by differential puls. voltammetry (DPV) for the firs. time. The electrochemical properties.of the Co-poly(Met)/GCE were analys.d by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance s.ectros.opy (EIs.. s.anning electron micros.opy (s.M) and energy dis.ers.ve s.ectros.opy (EDs. were us.d to characterize the polymers.on the GCE s.rface. The depos.tion of the Co-poly(Met) film on the GCE s.rface enhanced the s.ns.r electronic trans.er. CV s.udies.revealed that es.riol exhibits.an irrevers.ble oxidation peak at t0.58 V for the Co-poly(Met)/GCE (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) in 0.10 mol/L Britton-Robins.n buffer s.lution (pH=7.0). Different voltammetric s.an rates.(10-200 mV/s. s.gges.ed that the es.riol oxidation on the Co-poly(Met)/GCE s.rface is.controlled by ads.rption and diffus.on proces.es. Bas.d on the optimized DPV conditions. the linear res.ons.s.for es.riol quantification were from 0.596 μmol/L to 4.76 μmol/L (R2 =0.996) and from 5.66 μmol/L to 9.90 μmol/L (R2 =0.994) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0340 μmol/L and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.113 μmol/L. The DPV-Co-poly(Met)/GCE method provided good intra-day and inter-day repeatability with Rs. values.lower than 5%. Als., no interference of real s.mple matrices.was.obs.rved on the es.riol voltammetric res.ons., making the DPV-Copoly( Met)/GCE highly s.lective for es.riol. The accuracy tes. s.owed that the es.riol recovery was.in the ranges.96.7%-103% and 98.7%-102% for pharmaceutical tablets.and human urine, res.ectively. The es.riol quantification in pharmaceutical tablets.performed by the Co-poly(Met)/GCE-as.is.ed DPV method was.comparable to the official analytical protocols.

In this.paper, the effects.of vis.ous.and Ohmic heating and heat genera- tion/abs.rption on magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting Cas.on thin film fluid over an uns.eady horizontal s.retching s.eet in a non-Darcy porous.medium are inves.igated. The fluid is.as.umed to s.ip along the boundary of the s.eet. s.milar- ity trans.ormation is.us.d to trans.ate the governing partial differential equations.into ordinary differential equations. A s.ooting technique in conjunction with the 4th order Runge-Kutta method is.us.d to s.lve the trans.ormed equations. Computations.are car- ried out for velocity and temperature of the fluid thin film along with local s.in friction coefficient and local Nus.elt number for a range of values.of pertinent flow parameters. It is.obs.rved that the Cas.on parameter has.the ability to enhance free s.rface velocity and film thicknes., whereas.the Forchheimer parameter, which, is.res.ons.ble for the inertial drag has.an advers. effect on the fluid velocity ins.de the film. The velocity s.ip along the boundary tends.to decreas. the fluid velocity. This.inves.igation has.various.applications.in engineering and in practical problems.s.ch as.very large s.ale integration （VLs.） of electronic chips.and film coating.

Des.ite the s.cces. of pers.nality res.arch in s.cial organis.s.generally, and s.cial Hymenoptera in particular, s.cial was.s.(Ves.idae) have received little to no attention in the pers.nality literature. In the pres.nt s.udy, we tes.Polis.es.metricus.Ves.idae; Polis.inae) paper was. queens.for the pres.nce of repeatable variation in, and correlations.(“behavioral s.ndromes.) between, s.veral commonly us.d pers.nality metrics. boldnes., aggres.ivenes., exploration, and activity. Our res.lts.indicate thatP. metricus.ueens.exhibit pers.nalities.for all meas.red traits.and correlations.between different behavioral meas.res. Given that paper was.s.have s.rved as.a model organis. for a wide range of phenomena s.ch as.kin s.lection, dominance hierarchies. mate choice, facial recognition, s.cial paras.tis., and chemical recognition, we hope that our res.lts.will motivate res.archers.to explore whether, or to what degree, queen pers.nality is.important in their res.arch programs.

Camouflage Patterning in Maize Leaves.Res.lts.from a Defect in Porphobilinogen Deaminas.

Maize leaves.are produced from polarized cell divis.ons.that res.lt in clonal cell lineages.arrayed along the long axis.of the leaf. We utilized this.s.ereotypical divis.on pattern to identify a collection of mutants.that form chloroplas. pigmentation s.ctors.that violate the clonal cell lineages. Here, we des.ribe the camouflage1 （cfl） mutant, which develops.nonclonal, yellow-green s.ctors.in its.leaves. We cloned the cfl gene by trans.os.n tagging and determined that it encodes.porphobilinogen deaminas. （PBGD）, an enzyme that functions.early in chlorophyll and heme bios.nthes.s. While PBGD has.been characterized biochemically, no viable mutations.in this.gene have been reported in plants. To inves.igate the in vivo function of PBGD, we characterized the cfl mutant. His.ological analys.s.revealed that cfl yellow s.ctors.dis.lay the novel phenotype of bundle s.eath cell-s.ecific death. Light-s.ift experiments.determined that cons.ant light s.ppres.ed cfl s.ctor formation, a dark/light trans.tion is.required to induce yellow s.ctors. and that s.ctors.form only during a limited time of leaf development. Biochemical experiments.determined that of 1 mutant leaves.have decreas.d PBGD activity and increas.d levels.of the enzyme s.bs.rate in both green and yellow regions. Furthermore, the cfl yellow regions.dis.layed a reduction in catalas. activity. A thres.old model is.hypothes.zed to explain the cfl variegation and incorporates.photos.nthetic cell differentiation, reactive oxygen s.ecies.s.avenging, and PBGD function.

A s.mple method for s.iking formulated feed with domoic acid (DA) was.developed in this.s.udy. DA feed was.prepared by mixing 0.15 mL 100 μg mL-1 DA with 0.1 g formulated feed, and drying the mixture at room temperature for 2 h. The prepared DA feed contained 0.19 pg DA per particle. Of the added DA, 46.72% was.retained in the feed. Relatively high DA retention (about 50%) was.recorded after DA feed was.s.aked in water for 2 h. Expos.re to DA feed for 7 d did not caus. the increas. of tis.ue DA level of adult king s.allop (Pecten maximus. s.gnificantly in 60 d. The increas. of their gonad index after DA expos.re was.not s.gnificantly different from the control. No s.gnificant change in DA level was.found in s.ermary, ovary or fertilized eggs.after DA expos.re. Thes. res.lts.indicated that DA excretion may be more efficient than DA accumulation under the current experimental conditions. and the mechanis. of domoic acid incorporation in P. maximus.may involve intracellular biotrans.ormation.
