Transcriptomic biomarkers for predicting response to neoadjuvant treatment in oesophageal cancer

Oesophageal cancer is a devastating disease with poor outcomes and is the sixth leading cause of cancer death *** the setting of resectable disease,there is clear evidence that neoadjuvant chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy result in improved ***,only 15%-30%of patients obtain a histopathological response to neoadjuvant therapy,often at the expense of significant *** are no predictive biomarkers in routine clinical use in this setting and the ability to stratify patients for treatment could dramatically improve *** this review,we aim to outline current progress in evaluating predictive transcriptomic biomarkers for neoadjuvant therapy in oesophageal cancer and discuss the challenges facing biomarker development in this *** place these issues in the wider context of recommendations for biomarker development and *** majority of studies focus on messenger RNA(mRNA)and microRNA(miRNA)*** studies report a range of different genes involved in a wide variety of pathways and biological processes,and this is explained to a large extent by the different platforms and analysis methods *** studies are also vastly underpowered so are not suitable for identifying a candidate *** molecular subtypes of oesophageal cancer have been proposed,although little is known about how these relate to clinical *** anticipate that the accumulating wealth of genomic and transcriptomic data and clinical trial collaborations in the coming years will provide unique opportunities to stratify patients in this poor-prognosis disease and recommend that future biomarker development incorporates well-designed retrospective and prospective analyses.

Production of biodiesel from unused algal biomass in Punjab, India

Biodiesel from inedible sources has become prominent in last few decades. But it is economically incompatible with petroleum diesel. At the same time, both petro-diesel and biodiesels are concerned with environmental pollution, global warming, etc. Algae, on the other hand, utilize CO2 for their growth and can minimize some sort of pollution level and results in carbon credit for a country. In Punjab, India, algae are seen to grow in many water bodies. But all those are taken away and dumped in vats. Some of this huge biomass was used for production of biodiesel in this work. Extraction of oil from algae was conducted by using Soxtherm（solvent extraction）. An amount of 9 wt% of algal oil was extracted by comparatively costly hexane, whereas 8% extraction was done by cheaper acetone. In the transesterification reaction, molar ratio（methanol： oil） of 6：1, catalyst（KOH） concentration of 3 wt%, reaction temperature of 60 °C, 60 min reaction time and a settling time of 2.5 h were found to be optimum conditions to get maximum ester with minimum free fatty acid content and viscosity. A statistical analysis for the transesterification procedure also showed a methanol-to-oil molar ratio of 6：1 and catalyst concentration of 3 wt% to be the optimum. Characterization of biodiesel was done and compared with ASTM/BIS standards. Most important properties of biodiesel ester like viscosity（3.12 c St or 3.12 mm2/s）, cloud and pour point（-1 and-6 °C, respectively）, flash and fire point（153 and 158 °C）, carbon residue content（0.03%）, acid number（0.36 mg of KOH/gm） were within the range of concerned standards.

Sealing Features of Fluid-Rock System and its Control on Acidic Dissolution in Cretaceous Sandstone Reservoirs,Kuqa Subbasin

The Cretaceous Bashijiqike Formation is the main gas-bearing strata in the northern structural deformation zone of Kuqa subbasin. The acidic dissolution of this formation arose at 5-4Ma, which corresponds to the late burial stage of the Bashijiqike Formation. Variability of interlayer due to rock composition is negligible. Differentiation of acidic dissolution in sandstones was controlled by difference in amount of exogenous acid fluid from underlying strata. For the absence of sedimentary and structural carrier system between the isolated sandstone reservoirs, most fluid-rock systems show relative sealing feature during later burial stage by sealing feature of formation pressure, geochemical characteristics of formation water and content of diagenetic products in sandstones. Variation of sealing effects for different fluid-rock systems is obvious. The pressure coefficient is inversely proportional to acidic dissolved porosity of sandstone reservoirs, indicating that the variation of sealing effects for fluid- rock system mainly controls the differentiation of acidic dissolution.

Phosphorus(P)limitation in soil is a major concern for crop ***,the use of chemical fertilizer is hazardous to the environment and ***,the use of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria(PSB)is an eco-friendly approach for a sustainable agricultural *** the present study,a field trial was conducted for two consecutive years to study the effects of three PSB strains isolated,Bacillus licheniformis,Pantoea dispersa,and Staphylococcus sp.,with different P fertilizer rates on P uptake,P use efficiency(PUE),and grain yield of *** activities of soil enzymes were also studied in relation to PSB *** analysis of the yield and biochemical parameters revealed that inoculation of PSB consortium could reduce almost 50%of the recommended P dose in rice *** PSB strains in combination with 50%P dose was most effective and showed the highest increases in P uptake and PUE as compared to the uninoculated ***,the PSB consortium combined with 50%P dose contributed to 50.58%and35.64%yield increases compared to the uninoculated control for 2018 and 2019,*** increases in the activities of soil dehydrogenase,alkaline phosphatase,and acid phosphatase were also recorded under PSB treatment.

Three limonoids cipaferoids A-C （1-3） representing two different scaffolds were isolated from Cipadessa baccifera. Their structures were completely assigned by spectroscopic data, CD exciton chirality method, and X-ray crystallography. Compounds 2 and 3 exhibited moderate antimalarial activity with IC50 values of 9.3±0.1 and 14.7±4.8 μmol·L^-1, respectively.

Securines A—E,three dimeric diarymethane derivatives(1-3)and two enantiomeric diarymethane derivative monomers(4 and 5),were isolated and characterized from the medicinal plant Securidaca *** 1 and 2 are a pair of enantiomeric diarymethane derivative dimers,and compound 3 is a mesomeric diarymethane derivative *** structures were determined by a combination of spectroscopic data,X-ray crystallography,electronic circular dichroism(ECD)analysis,and computational ECD *** compounds 1-3 showed moderate antiplasmodial activities with IC50 values of 0.9,1.4,and 1.5μM,respectively.

An automated retinal disease detection system has long been in exis-tence and it provides a safe,no-contact and cost-effective solution for detecting this *** paper presents a game theory-based dynamic weighted ensem-ble of a feature extraction-based machine learning model and a deep transfer learning model for automatic retinal disease *** feature extraction-based machine learning model uses Gaussian kernel-based fuzzy rough sets for reduction of features,and XGBoost classiﬁer for the classiﬁ*** transfer learning model uses VGG16 or ResNet50 or Inception-ResNet-v2.A novel ensemble classiﬁer based on the game theory approach is proposed for the fusion of the outputs of the transfer learning model and the XGBoost classiﬁer *** ensemble approach signiﬁcantly improves the accuracy of retinal disease pre-diction and results in an excellent performance when compared to the individual deep learning and feature-based models.

Particles dispersion on fluid-liquid interfaces

This paper is concerned with the dispersion of particles on the fluid-liquid interface. In a previous study we have shown that when small particles, e.g., flour, pollen, glass beads, etc., contact an air-liquid interface, they disperse rapidly as if they were in an explosion. The rapid dispersion is due to the fact that the capillary force pulls particles into the interface causing them to accelerate to a large velocity. In this paper we show that motion of particles normal to the interface is inertia dominated; they oscillate vertically about their equilibrium position before coming to rest under viscous drag. This vertical motion of a particle causes a radially-outward lateral （secondary） flow on the interface that causes nearby particles to move away. The dispersion on a liquid-liquid interface, which is the primary focus of this study, was relatively weaker than on an air-liquid interface, and occurred over a longer period of time. When falling through an upper liquid the particles have a slower velocity than when falling through air because the liquid has a greater viscosity. Another difference for the liquid-liquid interface is that the separation of particles begins in the upper liquid before the particles reach the interface. The rate of dispersion depended on the size of the particles, the densities of the particle and liquids, the viscosities of the liquids involved, and the contact angle. For small particles, partial pinning and hysteresis of the three-phase contact line on the surface of the particle during adsorption on liquid-liquid interfaces was also important. The frequency of oscillation of particles about their floating equilibrium increased with decreasing particle size on both air-water and liquid-liquid interfaces, and the time to reach equilibrium decreased with decreasing particle size. These results are in agreement with our analysis.
