Prognostic significance of tumor budding,desmoplastic reaction,and lymphocytic infiltration in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma

Correlation of hepatitis B surface antigen expression with clinicopathological and biochemical parameters in liver biopsies: A comprehensive study

The integration of artificial intelligence(AI)has shown promising benefits in many fields of diagnostic histopathology,including for gastrointestinal cancers(GCs),such as tumor identification,classification,and prognosis *** parallel,recent evidence suggests that AI may help reduce the workload in gastrointestinal pathology by automatically detecting tumor tissues and evaluating prognostic *** addition,AI seems to be an attractive tool for biomarker/genetic alteration prediction in GC,as it can contain a massive amount of information from visual data that is complex and partially understandable by *** this point of view,it is suggested that advances in AI could lead to revolutionary changes in many fields of ***,these findings do not exclude the possibility that there are still many hurdles to overcome before AI applications can be safely and effectively applied in actual pathology *** include a broad spectrum of challenges from needs identification to ***,unlike other disciplines of medicine,no histopathology-based AI application,including in GC,has ever been approved either by a regulatory authority or approved for public *** purpose of this review is to present data related to the applications of AI in pathology practice in GC and present the challenges that need to be overcome for their implementation.

Determination of Genotoxic Pollution of Some Hospital Wastewater with Salmonella Ames Test

Wastewater of hospitals contains materials that would be a threat to alive. These water needs to be checked by a biological purification before leaving to nature. Hospital wastewater has differences than domestic waste because of especially blood, body waste, drugs, chemicals, medical device waste and radioactive materials. We aimed to determine genotoxic effects of total pollution in hospital wastewater on alive by Salmonella microsome test method. In this study, we decided on three hospitals which weren’t checked as biological purification of waste. The samples were taken for six 1-week periods between March 2009 and June 2009. Mutagenite studies of samples taken from hospitals were made with ,Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 and TA 100. Wastewater samples were evaporated. 27 different test materials were prepared using DMSO, ethanol and acetone solvents, two different MGA plaques were used for each test material. Each experiment was made for 3 times with known results of mutagens and we made it ready for “Ames” test method. We had genotoxicity 50% in Istanbul University Medical Faculty Hospital, 56% in Haseki Hospital and 61% in Vak?f Gureba Hospital. According to three hospitals result there are 9 positives, 9 negatives in DMSO;9 positives, 9 negatives in ethanol;12 positives, 6 negatives in acetone. These values are totally 56%. Our results give important information about mutagenic effect of total pollution in hospital wastewater. It is first time researched in Turkey that effect on DNA of pollution is from hospital wastewaters. In prospective studies, it is necessary to use this system as a method to monitor mutagenic genotoxic pollution in hospital wastewaters. These kinds of studies present applicability and importance of our method because of placing in the literature. Method constitutes a new approach to check mutagenite of pollution in hospital wastewater.

A 28-year-old man presented to our clinic for the evaluation of widespread black spots and cysts, in which recurrent infections could not be controlled by topical and systemic antimicrobials. He was first noted at birth to have a rudimentary toe on the right foot. By the age of 8 years, he had developed pitting on the neck and sole, many of which contained black dots. Over subsequent years,pigmentedpapulesrepresentingpigmentedbasalcellcarcinomas (BCCs) also began to appear on the neck and chest. The patient gave a history of recurrent abscesses and cysts developing on the lesions after the age of 14 years. His personal history was negative for epileptiform attacks and congenital cataract. There was no parental consanguinity and no family history of any similar skin condition. Dermatologic examination revealed aggregated, linear, discrete, dilated, follicular orifices plugged with keratinous material on both sides of the neck, extending down to the upper chest. In some areas, these comedo-like pits were associated with erythematous papules, nodules, cysts, and scars. Some follicules had a rudimentary hair, and others no hair at all. In addition, there were multiple, small, black, glistening papules, characteristic of pigmented BCCs (Fig. 1). Interfollicular hypopigmentation was also observed. On the medial edge and sole of the right foot, there was a linear patch of pitting. There was also a skin-colored, soft, 2 cm pedunculated nodule arising from the medial aspect of the great toe, which was diagnosed as a rudimentary toe (Fig. 2). The rest of the physical examination was normal. The patient’s general health was good. Histopathologic examination of the skin lesions revealed dilated and invaginated keratin-filled follicular structures and well-defined, keratin-filled cysts. Genetic factors predisposing individuals to Behet’s disease(BD) are considered to play important roles in the developmentof the disease. Patients with BD exhibit elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, and affected organs show a significant neutrophil and lymphocyte infiltration. Current evidence suggests that the activated lymphocytes contribute to neutrophil and endothelial cell activation in these patients. The cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen (CTLA)-4 molecule plays an important role in immune regulation by downregulating T-cell activation, and the CTLA-4 49A/G polymorphism in the exon 1 has been shown to be associated with a number of autoimmune diseases. In an attempt to demonstrate whether there is an association of the CTLA-4 49A/G polymorphism with BD in the Turkish population, we genotyped 59 Turkish patients and 99 healthy individuals for single-nucleotide polymorphisms. For this purpose, genomic DNA was obtained from the peripheral blood of individuals and the region of interest was amplified using PCR. Genotyping was performed using the BbvI restriction endonuclease. It was shown that the distribution of the CTLA-4 exon 1 49A/G allele and genotype frequencies did not differ between patientswith BD and healthy ***, allele and genotype frequencies of CTLA-4 49 A and A/A were significantly higher in patients with ocular involvement compared with patients without these symptoms (90.6%vs. 65.1%, odds ratio (OR) = 9.67, P = 0.011; and 81.25%vs. 39.5%,OR = 9.56, P = 0.015, respectively). A statistically significant difference in the A allele frequency was observed in patients with erythema nodosum-like lesions (86.1%vs. 65.8%, OR =6.24, P = 0.04). There was also an increase in A/A genotype frequency, but the difference was not statistically significant (72.2%vs. 41.5%, OR = 6.5, P = 0.068). Kaposi’s varicelliform eruption is characterized by disseminated ve siculopu stules and erosions caused by a herpes virus infection superimposed on a pre-e xisting dermatosis. The eruption usually occurs in individuals with atopic derma titis or other pre-existing dermatosis such as Darier’s disease, pemphigus f oliaceus, mycosis fungoides, Sé zary syndrome, benign familial pemphigus, ichth yosis vulgaris, second-degree burns, multiple myeloma, and Grover’s disease. We report here a new case of Kaposi’s varicelliform eruption in a 38- year- old woman with rosacea. To our knowledge, this is the first case of Kaposi’s varicelliform eruption as sociated with rosacea to be reported.

Having considered the impact of the function of TLR2 in there cognition of several microorganisms that are thought to havean association with disease(BD),we aimed to determinea possible association between the TLR2 Arg753Gln polymorphism and susceptibility to *** genotyped 83 patients with BD,95 ethnically matched healthy controls,12patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis(RAS)and 21 patientswith rheumatoid arthritis(RA)by restriction fragment length polymorphism after PCR amplification of the genomicregion encompassing the polymorphic *** of the TLR2 Arg753Gln A allele and A/G genotype frequencies did not show a significant difference between patients with BD andhealthy controls(1.2%vs.0.6%,and 2.1%vs.1.1%,respectively).None of the patients from the RAS and RA groups had the A allele or A/G *** results indicate that the TLR2 Arg753Gln polymorphism does not play a role in the aetiopathogenesis of BD.
