Genotyping ex situ trees of Abies nebrodensis translocated from the original Sicilian population to enrich the gene pool

As a dynamic ex situ conservation strategy,a clonal seed orchard was started in a nursery in Pomaio(POM)in central Italy in 1993 for an assisted migration experiment of Abies nebrodensis(Lojac.)*** artifi cial ex situ populations were planted with this gene pool:a seedling arboretum in Pieve Santo Stefano(PSS)and a small dendrological collection in Papiano(PAP),both originating from the Sicilian relict ***,using AFLP markers,we estimated the relatedness among the relocated genotypes of the three collections to check whether the three collections had suffi cient genetic variability to be considered as additional sources of variability to the original gene pool for the assisted migration *** individual genetic variability was found in the collections;each plant had a diff erent genotype and was confi rmed to belong to its population of *** and PSS trees were shown to be only from the original population of *** species and were derived from a limited set of maternal fertile *** on the Sicilian fi r population inventory,nursery production in Sicily,and structure clustering analysis,close genetic relationships among POM,PAP and several PSS trees(1–35)were ***,the PSS group(36–78)was genetically close to tree 1 of POM and in a lesser proportion to plants 7 and 9 of *** sampling of seedlings used to form batches in the nursery might have infl uenced the structure of the resultant *** genotypes will be useful for enriching the original gene pool.

What is the rationale for immunotherapies in Parkinsonian syndromes (PS)? PS are neurodegenerative diseases which are clinically characterized by a hypokinetic phenotype in combination with additional motor and non-motor symptoms. One major pathological hallmark of all PS consists of a non-physiological detrimental accumulation of protein aggregates which appear intracellularly in neurons and glial cells but also in the extracellular space (Wong and Krainc, 2017). Depending on the pathogenic protein, PS can be divided into synucleinopathies, characterized by aggregation of the protein alpha-Synuclein (aSyn), and tauopathies, characterized by aggregation of the protein Tau (Levin et al., 2016;Poewe et al., 2017). Clinical syndromes of synucleinopathies include Parkinson’s disease (PD), multiple system atrophy (MSA) and dementia with Lewy bodies, and tauopathies include progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration.

A High Order Sharp-Interface Method with Local Time Stepping for Compressible Multiphase Flows

In this paper,a new sharp-interface approach to simulate compressible multiphase flows is *** new scheme consists of a high order WENO finite volume scheme for solving the Euler equations coupled with a high order pathconservative discontinuous Galerkin finite element scheme to evolve an indicator function that tracks the material *** the interface our method applies ghost cells to compute the numerical flux,as the ghost fluid ***,unlike the original ghost fluid scheme of Fedkiw et al.[15],the state of the ghost fluid is derived from an approximate-state Riemann solver,similar to the approach proposed in[25],but based on a much simpler *** formulation leads only to one single scalar nonlinear algebraic equation that has to be solved at the interface,instead of the system used in[25].Away from the interface,we use the new general Osher-type flux recently proposed by Dumbser and Toro[13],which is a simple but complete Riemann solver,applicable to general hyperbolic conservation *** time integration is performed using a fully-discrete one-step scheme,based on the approaches recently proposed in[5,7].This allows us to evolve the system also with time-accurate local time *** to the sub-cell resolution and the subsequent more restrictive time-step constraint of the DG scheme,a local evolution for the indicator function is applied,which is matched with the finite volume scheme for the solution of the Euler equations that runs with a larger time *** use of a locally optimal time step avoids the introduction of excessive numerical diffusion in the finite volume *** different fluids have been used,namely an ideal gas and a weakly compressible fluid modeled by the Tait *** tests have been computed to assess the accuracy and the performance of the new high order scheme.A verification of our algorithm has been carefully carried out using exact solutions as well as a comparison with other numerical re

Unhealthy aging? Featuring older people in television food commercials in China

To the Editor: In the last decade, next-generation sequencing(NGS)-based molecular profiling has shed light on the molecular landscape of biliary tract cancer(BTC), revealing the presence of several potentially actionable mutations [1]. According to Clinical ***, there are at least 40 phase I to IV ongoing trials aimed at evaluating the role of targeted treatments in BTC, as monotherapy or in combination with other anticancer agents [2]. Early encouraging results have been observed with therapies targeting IDH mutations, FGFR fusions, HER family and, more recently, BRAF mutations [3].

Recently,the Andean subparamo in Colombia has experienced severe wildfires,but little is known about the functional composition of recovering or not after a ***,we examined the functional community composition subparamo affected byfire in *** documented how functional traits changed 31 months after the disturbance and compared them with an unburned *** sampled from one to two years after the fire every four months,then registered all recruits in 1655m *** individuals were classified into strategy functional groups based on the traits of persistence and *** first group was stem type and regeneration mechanism(seedling and resprout),and the second was fruit type and dispersal *** investigated the degree to which functional diversity changes plant communities over time(woody and non-woody),and we compared it with an unburned *** most relevant results showed that resprouts and seed regenerated increased post-fire time and significant differences between sampling *** anemochory is the most relevant dispersal mode that indicates the community capacity to colonize the new gaps opened by the fire *** discuss how wildfire appears to be a triggering factor for persistence and dispersal strategy groups in subparamo burned given their characteristics of tolerance to *** this reason,a greater functional divergence between the ecosystems studied post-fire recovery has been related to higher levels of biodiversity at the landscape scale due to the high degree of endemism and significant differences in species composition between paramos.

Mitochondrial Transcription Factor A （TFAM） is a nuclear-encoded factor present in mitochondria from allkinds of animals, even with a homologous form in yeast, which has strongly and progressively gained an eminent relevance in the regulation of mitochondrial DNA （mtDNA） functions. This is due to the various functions performed by the protein, which cover a very wide scenario including： replication, transcription, maintenance and eventually repair of mtDNA molecules. In consideration of so many different roles it plays, it can be understood there is a deep interest in its regulation of expression and activity as well as its eventual involvement in pathologies related to a decreased functionality/presence of the mitochondrial genome and the consequences of TFAM induced overexpression.

Phenotypic ASCOD characterisations of ischaemic stroke in the young at an urban tertiary care centre

Background and purpose Stroke in young individuals is a serious public health *** study aimed to characterise the various phenotypes of ischaemic stroke in a young urban population(≤50 years old)using the ASCOD classification system,which assigns a score to five stroke categories:atherosclerosis,small vessel disease(SVD),cardioembolism,other and *** each category,a numerical score represents the degree of causality attributed to the *** This retrospective study cohort was composed of patients from an urban tertiary care academic *** were selected by searching Get With the Guidelines database for adults≤50 years old with ischaemic *** study sample included 175 ischaemic strokes in 157 patients,with 16 subjects *** retrospective chart review,each stroke was scored according to the ASCOD classification *** logistic regression analyses were performed to explore each ASCOD category’s association with causal risk *** Of possible causal mechanisms,defined as receiving a grade 1 or 2,a cardiovascular aetiology was most prevalent(25.7%),followed by SVD(22.3%),and closely by atherosclerosis(21.1%).Of general phenotypes,defined as receiving a grade 1 or 2 or 3,atherosclerosis was the most prevalent(51.4%),followed by SVD(47.4%),cardioembolism(42.3%)and other(35.4%).31.6%of all strokes were of unclear *** between 45 and 50 years old were more likely to develop a cardioembolic or SVD stroke when compared with subjects<45 years *** This study took a novel approach to ASCOD phenotyping,allowing several observations:(1)In patients with advanced atherosclerosis receiving the score A1,the vast majority had systemic atherosclerosis in multiple vascular territories;(2)the cardiac score C2(6),defined as a radiographic pattern highly suggestive of a central embolic source,may overestimate the prevalence of true cardiac disease;(3)incidental laboratory findings may detec
