In this paper,a stochastic epidemiological model is presented as an extension of a compartmental SEIr model with random perturbations to analyze the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic in the city of Bogota D.C.,*** model incorporates thespread of COVID-19 impacted by social behaviors in the population and allows for projecting the number of infected,recovered,and deceased individuals considering the mitigation measures,namely confinement and partial relaxed ***,the role of randomness using the concept of Brownian motion is emphasized to explain the behavior of the *** experiments for the stochastic model with random perturbations were performed,and the model is validated through numerical simulations for actual data from Bogota D.C.

Cancer causes millions of deaths annually and microtubule-targeting agents （MTAs） are the most commonly-used anti-cancer drugs. However, the high toxicity of MTAs on normal cells raises great concern. Due to the non-selectivity of MTA targets, we analyzed the interaction net- work in a non-cancerous human cell. Subnetworks of fourteen MTAs were reconstructed and the merged network was compared against a randomized network to evaluate the functional rich- ness. We found that 71.4% of the MTA interactome nodes are shared, which affects cellular pro- cesses such as apoptosis, cell differentiation, cell cycle control, stress response, and regulation of energy metabolism. Additionally, possible secondary targets were identified as client proteins of interphase microtubules. MTAs affect apoptosis signaling pathways by interacting with client pro- teins of interphase microtubules, suggesting that their primary targets are non-tumor cells. The paclitaxel and doxorubicin networks share essential topological axes, suggesting synergistic effects. This may explain the exacerbated toxicity observed when paclitaxel and doxorubicin are used in combination for cancer treatment.

Introduction: Metabolic acidosis (MA) is a frequent alteration in chronic kidney disease (CKD) that is associated with numerous complications, which is why its correction is recommended. Oral sodium bicarbonate is currently the treatment of choice. Objective: The objective is to determine if venous bicarbonate is equal to arterial bicarbonate in the follow-up of a patient with chronic kidney disease. Materials Methods: Single-center Cross-sectional studies in a cohort of adult patients with stage 4 - 5 CKD. Samples were taken between January 2022 and January 2023, in a Clinic in the city of Ibague/ Colombia obtained from the radial artery. The inclusion criteria were: not being treated with alkaline at the time of inclusion. results: A total of 71 patients were included, 73.2% male (52) and 26.8% female (19), with different stages: stage 3 with 5.6% (4), stage 4 with 60.6% (43), stage 5 with 33.8% (23). 66.2% were diabetic, 88.7% had arterial hypertension, and 15.5% of the patients presented hematoma as a complication and pain associated with arterial puncture. The result of mean venous bicarbonate was 18.8 with a standard deviation of 2.3, arterial bicarbonate a mean of 19.4 with a standard deviation of 2.1 with a value of P 0.46, venous pH with a mean of 7.37 with a standard deviation of 0.48 and a mean arterial pH of 7.38 with a standard deviation of 0.48 with a P value of 0.01. Values of venous bicarbonate compared to arterial bicarbonate showed no statistically significant difference in patients with chronic kidney disease, but there were more complications such as hematoma and pain in patients in the arterial puncture cohort, because of this result venous bicarbonate corresponds to arterial bicarbonate, but has less risk of complications associated with the procedure. Apicomplexa are an extremely diverse group of unicellular organisms that infect humans and other animals. Despite the great advances in combating infectious diseases over the past century, these parasites still have a tremendous social and economic burden on human societies, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Proteases from apicomplexa have been characterized at the molecular and cellular levels, and central roles have been proposed for proteases in diverse processes. In this work, 16 new genes encoding for trypsin proteases are identified in 8 apicomplexan genomes by a genome-wide survey. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that these genes were gained through both intracellutar gene transfer and vertical gene transfer. Identification, characterization and understanding of the evolutionary origin of protease-mediated processes are crucial to increase the knowledge and improve the strategies for the development of novel chemotherapeutic agents and vaccines.

Background:Emerging research supports the idea that exercise positively affects ***,the mechanisms linking exercise with brain health are largely *** aimed to investigate the effect of exercise on(a)blood biomarkers selected based on previous evidence(brainderived neurotrophic factor,β-hydroxybutyrate(BHB),cathepsin B(CTSB),kynurenine,fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF21),soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(sVCAM-1));and(b)a panel of 92 neurology-related proteins(discovery analysis).We also investigated whether changes in these biomarkers mediate the effects of exercise on brain health(hippocampal structure and function,cognitive performance,and mental health).Methods:We randomized 81 overweight/obese children(10.1±1.1 years,41%girls)into 2 groups:either 20 weeks of aerobic plus resistance exercise or *** biomarkers were assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)for kynurenine,FGF21,and CTSB;colorimetry forβ-hydroxybutyrate;and XMap for brain-derived neurotrophic factor and soluble vascular cell adhesion ***92 neurology-related proteins were analyzed by an antibody-based proteomic ***:Our intervention had no significant effect on candidate biomarkers(all p>0.05).In the discovery analysis,a reduction in circulating macrophage scavenger receptor type-I was observed(standardized differences between groups=-0.3,p=0.001).This effect was validated using ELISA methods(standardized difference=-0.3,p=0.01).None of the biomarkers mediated the effects of exercise on brain ***:Our study does not support a chronic effect of exercise on candidate *** observed that while chronic exercise reduced the levels of macrophage scavenger receptor type-Ⅰ,it did not mediate the effects of exercise on brain *** studies should explore the implications of this novel biomarker for overall health.

Background: Quantitative PCr (qPCr) can be used to detect and quantify a load of a pathogen. It is a good indicator of the degree of transmissibility. While performing routine qPCr, we observed an unusually short cycle threshold (Ct) value of SArS-CoV-2 for a clinical specimen obtained in Bamako, Mali. This prompted us to sequence the short-cycle SArS-CoV-2 sample to identify potential mutations in the Spike gene (S gene) gene. Methods: Post-infection, Quantitative reverse Transcription (qrT-PCr) was performed over a defined time course to estimate the Ct of the SArS-CoV-2 specimen collected from the patient. Sanger sequencing was done on the entire fragment of the S gene to identify mutations. Findings: Sanger sequencing revealed mutations in the lineage of interest, designated B.1.525 by Pango, and also known as “Eta” using the nomenclature defined by WHO. This variant was originally found in Nigeria and Italy. The four novel mutations identified in Eta (D228N, Y451N, I1172M, and C1250F) were otherwise observed with a low frequency worldwide. Although the initial Ct was 10 in the case study patient, he did not exhibit severe symptoms of SArS-CoV-2, for example, pneumonia. However, we observed a longer viral clearance period than usual, of 3 weeks. We note that as compared to SArS-CoV-2 samples obtained during the first peaks of SArS-CoV-2 infection in Mali, when the infection was at its peak in March 2020 (Ct = 30.4), circulating strains evaluated at the time the Eta sample was obtained demonstrated a lower mean Ct (Ct = 24). Conclusions: The short cycle threshold associated with this variant, and the temporal association with a decrease in the mean Ct in the region of Bamako, may indicate higher levels of transmissibility due to a circulating variant. This variant is a lineage of interest designated B.1.525 by Pango or Eta by WHO.

A simple model for the stochastic evolution of defects in a material under irradiation is *** the master-equation formalism,we derive an expression for the average number of defects in terms of the power flux and the exposure *** model reproduces the qualitative behavior of self-healing due to defect recombination,reaching a steady-state concentration of defects that depends on the power flux of the incident radiation and the material temperature,while also suggesting a particular time scale on which the incident energy is most efficient for producing defects,in good agreement with experimental *** this model,we discuss the integral damage factor,a descriptor that combines the power flux and the square of the irradiation *** recent years,the scientific community involved in plasma-facing materials for nuclear fusion reactors has used this parameter to measure the equivalent material damage produced in experiments of various types with different types of radiation and wide ranges of power flux and irradiation *** integral damage factor is useful in practice but lacks formal theoretical *** this simple model,we find that it is directly proportional to the maximum concentration of defects.
