A 58-year-old man with hypertension and half a year ago documented left bundle branch block(LBBB)in his past history presented with progressive dyspnea.A pre-admission echocardiography showed severely depressed systolic left ventricular function[ejection fraction(EF)=27%],diffuse hypokinesis and dilated heart chambers consistent with dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM).

For genome mulUplication hepadnaviruses use the transcriptional machinery of the cell that is found within the nucleus. Thus the viral genome has to be transported through the cytoplasm and nuclear pore. The intracytosolic translocation is facilitated by the viral capsid that surrounds the genome and that interacts with cellular microtubules. The subsequent passage through the nuclear pore complexes （NPC） is mediated by the nuclear transport receptors importin α andβ. Importin α binds to the C-terminus of the capsid protein that comprises a nuclear localization signal （NLS）. The exposure of the NLS is regulated and depends upon genome maturation and/or phosphorylation of the capsid protein. As for other karyophilic cargos using this pathway importin α interacts with importin β that facilitates docking of the import complex to the NPC and the passage through the pore. Being a unique strategy, the import of the viral capsid is incomplete in that it becomes arrested inside the nuclear basket, which is a cage-like structure on the karyoplasmic face of the NPC. Presumably only this compartment provides the factors that are required for capsid disassembly and genome release that is restricted to those capsids comprising a mature viral DNA genome.

Establish a reliable rainfall-runoff relation capable of predicting runoff in ungauged basins is a matter of interest across the world for a long time and has been taking importance during the past *** approaches,hydrological models and machine learning techniques have been used to estimate ***,returning some simplicity to the predictions might be necessary for practical *** this paper,we re-introduce *** approach,developed in the early 1900s to predict runoff from values of precipitation on a two-equations ***,we analyze the Grunsky generalized method applied for 716 Brazilian catchments,on an interannual and monthly ***,we established the best method to find the rainfall-runoff relation coefficient for each ***,we evaluate the performance of the method on a local scale,i.e.,catchment by ***,we analyze the method of regionalization,by grouping the catchments into six hydrologically similar *** local scale,the Kling-Gupta Efficiency(KGE)values range from 0.87 to 0.93 on the interannual scale and is greater than 0.50 on the monthly *** the regionalized approach,KGE varies from 0.60 to 0.84 on an interannual *** also found suitable KGE values on a monthly scale,with more than 22%of catchments with KGE greater than 0.50,being the best performances in the Non-seasonal and Extremely-wet groups,and the worst performance in the Dry *** findings indicate that Grunsky approach is suitable to predict streamflow for Brazilian catchments on interannual and monthly *** simple and easy-to-use equation presents a reliable alternative to more complex methods to compute runoff by only using rainfall data.

Palaeogeography of a shallow carbonate platform:The case of the Middle to Late Oxfordian in the Swiss Jura Mountains

The Oxfordian （Late Jurassic） carbonate-dominated ptatform outcropping in the Swiss Jura Mountains offers a good biostratigraphic, sequence-stratigraphic, and cyclostratigraphic framework to reconstruct changes in facies distribution at a time-resolution of 100 ka. It thus allows interpreting the dynamic evolution of this platform in much more detail than conventional palaeogeographic maps permit. As an example, a Middle to Late Oxfordian time slice is presented, spanning an interval of about 1.6 Ma. The study is based on 12 sections logged at cm-scale. The interpreted depositional environments include marginal-marine emerged ;ands, fresh-water lakes, tidal fiats, shallow lagoons, ooid shoals, and coral reefs. Although limestones dominate, marly intervals and dolomites occur sporadically. Major facies shifts are related to m-scale sea-level changes linked to the orbital short eccentricity cycle （100 ka）. The 20-ka precession cycle caused minor facies changes but cannot always be resolved. Synsedimentary tectonics induced additional accommodation changes by creating shallow basins where days accumulated or highs on which shoals or islands formed. Autocyclic processes such as lateral migration of ooid and bioclastic shoals added to the sedimentary record. CEimate changes intervened to control terrestrial run-off and, consequently, siliciclastic and nutrient input. Coral reefs reacted to such input by becoming dominated by microbialites and eventually by being smothered. Concomitant occurrence of siliciclastics anddolomite in certain intervals further suggests that, at times, it was relatively arid in the study area but there was rainfall in more northern latitudes, eroding the Hercynian substrate. These examples from the Swiss Jura demonstrate the highly dynamic and （geologically speaking） rapid evolution of sedimentary systems, in which tectonically controlled basin morphology, orbitally induced climate and sea-level changes, currents, and the ecology of the carbon

Seismic safety assessment of gravity dams has become a major concern in many regions of the world while the effects of vertical seismic accelerations on the response of structures remain poorly *** paper first investigates the effect of including vertical accelerations in the sliding response analysis of gravity dams subjected to a range of historical ground motion records separated in two groups according to their source-to-site *** showed that the incidence of vertical accelerations on the sliding response of gravity dams is significantly higher for near-source records than for far- source *** pseudo-static 30% load combination rule,commonly used in practice to account for the non-simultaneous occurrence of the peak horizontal and vertical accelerations,yielded good approximations of the minimum safety factors against sliding computed from time-history analyses.A method for empirically estimating the vertical response spectra based on horizontal spectra,accounting for the difference in frequency content and amplitudes between the two components is *** from analyses using spectrum compatible horizontal and vertical synthetic records also approximated well the sliding response of a gravity dam subjected to series of simultaneous horizontal and vertical historical earthquake records.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)is an evidence-based effective therapy of symptomatic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction refractory to optimal medical treatment associated with intraventricular conduction disturbance,that results in electrical dyssynchrony and further deterioration of systolic ventricular ***,the non-response rate to CRT is still 20%−40%,which can be decreased by better patient *** main determinant of CRT outcome is the presence or absence of significant ventricular dyssynchrony and the ability of the applied CRT technique to eliminate *** current guidelines recommend the determination of QRS morphology and QRS duration and the measurement of left ventricular ejection fraction for patient selection for ***,QRS morphology and QRS duration are not perfect indicators of electrical dyssynchrony,which is the cause of the not negligible non-response rate to CRT and the missed CRT implantation in a significant number of patients who have the appropriate substrate for *** imaging modalities,many ventricular dyssynchrony criteria were devised for the detection of mechanical dyssynchrony,but their utility in patient selection for CRT is not yet proven,therefore their use is not recommended for this ***,CRT can eliminate only mechanical dyssynchrony due to underlying electrical dyssynchrony,for this reason ECG has a greater role in the detection of ventricular dyssynchrony than imaging *** improve assessment of electrical dyssynchrony,we devised two novel ECG dyssynchrony criteria,which can estimate interventricular and left ventricular intraventricular dyssynchrony in order to improve patient selection for *** we discuss the results achieved by the application of these new ECG dyssynchrony criteria,which proved to be useful in predicting the CRT response in patients with nonspecific intraventricular conduction disturbance pattern(the second greatest group of CRT candidates),an

Asymmetric lipid distribution in the plasma membrane(PM)is one of the fundamental features of living *** not only serve as structural components of the biophysical structure of the PM that preserves cell integrity but also participate directly in *** phospholipids(PLs),such as phosphatidylserine(PS),phosphatidylethanolamine(PE),and phosphoinositol(PI),are preferentially located in the inner layer of the PM,creating electrostatic charges for the docking of membrane-associated and cytoplasmic proteins carrying polybasic stretches of amino ***,there is emerging evidence that reversible changes in the distribution of these lipids take place in the PM and that these changes are critical for normal cell signaling,functions and homeostasis[1–3].They can also be implicated in the genesis of pathologies.

We provide confirmed photographic evidence for the previously overlooked occurrence of the polyphyletic Asian gecko genus Cnemaspis from Gunung Mulu National Park, the world-renowned UNESCO natural heritage site in northern Sarawak, East Malaysia. This new record from Sarawak province represents a remarkable range extension for Cnemaspis cf. kendallii by 550 km to the northeast and denotes the most northern occurrence of the genus in Borneo. Our new finding makes it very likely that these gekkonid lizards also inhabit appropriate limestone karst habitats in adjacent Sabah, Brunei, and Kalimantan. Given the visible differences in the Mulu specimen compared to those from the remaining distribution range on Borneo and the Malaysian Peninsula together with the fact that numerous Cnemaspis species are restricted to small areas, it seems plausible that another undescribed, rather cryptic and possibly locally endemic Bornean species is involved. Lastly, the new record contributes to the importance of the Mulu National Park as a major conservation area in East Malaysia of international concerns.
