BACKGROUND:With the objective of developing a locally- produced radioactive stent,the present study used in vivo animal experiments to explore apoptosis of proliferative smooth muscle cells resulting from facilitation of the expression of genes caused byγ-radiation in order to prevent bile duct *** therefore explored the effects and significance ofγ-radiation on the activity of caspase-3,Fas and Bcl-2 genes in apoptosis of proliferative smooth muscle cells in the bile duct walls of dogs. METHODS:Twelve dogs were randomly divided into 2 groups(6 in each group).A postinjury bile duct stenosis model was established and radioactive 103 Pd( 103 palladium) or ordinary bile duct stents were implanted into the bile *** staining,RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the proliferation and apoptosis of bile duct smooth muscle cells in proliferative endomembrane and the expression of related caspase-3,Bcl-2 and Fas genes. RESULTS:The expression of caspase-3 and Fas genes in the bile duct tissues of dogs with radioactive stents was higher than that of dogs with ordinary *** was significant apoptosis of proliferative smooth muscle cells in the bile *** expression of the Bcl-2 gene in the bile duct tissues of dogs with radioactive stents was lower than that in those with ordinary *** was significant apoptosis of proliferative smooth muscle cells in the dogs with low Bcl-2 gene expression. CONCLUSIONS:Radiation increases the activity of caspase-3 and Fas genes and is associated with apoptosis. The radioactive 103 Pd stent may facilitate apoptosis of proliferative smooth muscle cells in the bile ducts of dogs by activating these *** Bcl-2 gene expression level is correlated with the occurrence of apoptosis and the radiosusceptibility of cells.

The protective ability of ascorbic acid(Vc) on stannous ion and the influence of light irradiation on the stability of stannous ion in diphosphonate medium at pH=5 have been examined in order to attain minimal loss of stannous ion during the production of lyophilized radiopharmaceutical *** sum of stanous ion and Vc was determined with iodometric *** was shown that the protective ability of Vc was still strong at Vc concentration much lower than that of stannous ion and the illumination by fluorescent lamp was unfavorable to the stability of stannous *** change of pH in the range 3-9 did not affect the action of Vc significantly.

We briefly reviewed the experimental study on a-delayed proton decays near the proton drip line published by our group during the period of 1996―2004, namely the first observation of the a-delayed proton decays of 9 new nuclides in the rare-earth region and the new measurements of a-delayed proton decays of 5 nuclides in the mass ～90 region near the N = Z line with the aid of the “p-?” coincidence in combination with a He-jet tape transport system. In the meantime some important experimental technique details were supplemented. The experimental results, including the half -lives, spins, parities, deformations and production reaction cross sections for the 14 nuclei were summarized and compared with the current nuclear-model predictions, and then the following points were represented. (1) The experimental half-lives for 85Mo and 92Rh as well as the predicted “waiting point” nuclei 89Ru and 93Pd are 5―10 times longer than the theoretical predictions given by M?ller et al. using a macroscopic-microscopic model. It considerably influences the predictions of the abundances of the nuclides produced in the rp-process. (2) The current-model predictions are not consistent with the experimental assignments of the spins and parities for the proton drip-line nuclei 142Ho and 128Pm. However, the nuclear potential energy surface (PES) calculated by using a Woods- Saxon-Strutinsky method reproduced the experimental results. (3) The Alice code overestimated the production reaction cross sections of the studied 9 rare-earth nuclei by one order of magnitude or two, while HIVAP code overestimated them by one order of magnitude approximately.

Determination of ^(79)Se with accelerator mass spectrometry technique

So far accelerator mass spectrometry （AMS） technique has been used for the determination of numbers of important long-lived radioisotopes, such as 10Be, 14C, 26Al, 36Cl, 41Ca and 129I, in their applications of geoscienee, environmental science, archaeology and biomedical research. It is interesting to determine 79Se with AMS technique for its potential application in biomedical research and environmental science presently. The published half-life values of 79Se are more than 2 orders of magnitude apart, ranging from 103 to 106 a. The uncertainty of the half life has been an obstacle to the 79Se application as a tracer. Designing appropriate heat treatment temperature for LaNi_(3.8)Al_(0.75)Mn_(0.45) alloy

The effect of heat treatment on microstructure,equilibrium hydrogen sorption pressure and plateau slope of LaNi_(3.8)Al_(0.75)Mn_(0.45) alloy was investigated.X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis indicates that annealed alloys have single phase and the same hexagonal structure as that of LaNi_(5) alloy(CaCu_(5) type,P6/mmm).The cell parameters of alloys fluctuate with the increasing annealing *** equilibrium hydrogen pressure and plateau slope are a parabola function with annealing temperature for LaNi_(3.8)Al_(0.75)Mn_(0.45) *** this relationship,an appropriate heat treatment temperature for LaNi_(3.8)Al_(0.75)Mn_(0.45) alloy is determined to about 1220-1230 K by mathematic simulation ***,the maximum hydrogen storage capacity of alloys does not affected by the annealing temperature.

Effect of Manganese substitution on hydrogen storage properties of LaNi_(4.25-x)Al_(0.75)Mn_(x) alloy

The effect of Mn substitution on phase structure,hydrogen hydriding/dehydriding properties(plateau pressure and slope)and reaction heat enthalpy of LaNi_(4.25-x)Al_(0.75)Mn_(x)alloys(x=0,0.25,0.35,0.45,0.55 and 0.65)were *** experimental results show that all LaNi_(4.25-x)Al_(0.75)Mn_(x)alloys have single phase and have the same hexagonal structure as that of LaNi5 alloy(CaCu_(5)type,P6/mmm).With increasing Mn substitution content,the cell parameters of LaNi_(4.25-x)Al_(0.75)Mn_(x)alloy greatly increase,but the maximum hydrogen storage capacity and the equilibrium absorption pressure of LaNi_(4.25-x)Al_(0.75)Mn_(x)alloy decrease from 1.38 wt.%to 1.18 wt.%and from 1.61 to 0.0712 MPa,***,the hydrogen pressure plateau slope factorσincreases from 0.014 to 0.18,but the hysteresis factor is nearly *** heat enthalpy absolute value|ΔH_(plat)|increases from 46.7 kJ·mol^(-1)H2 to 56.1 kJ·mol^(-1)H_(2)as the Mn content x increases from 0 to 0.65.

Exotic structure of the third excited state in^(21)Na

The probability of the last proton being out of the binding potential, P and the root-mean-square (rms) ra- dius (1/2= of the third excited state in 21Na are calcu- lated by means of asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method with the experimental date existing. The results are P=54.73% and 1/2=5.28 fm respectively. The P value and the contribution of the asymptotic part to the 1/2 are compared with those of several other low energy states in 21Na. It is found that the valence particle in the third excited state has an obvious larger P than those of other states. The density distribution of the valence proton in this state is also compared with the nucleons in the nuclear core 20Ne, and a far extended tail can be seen clearly. These results show that the third ex- cited state in 21Na is a proton halo state.
