In this paper, we present a new hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm for unconstrained optimization. This method is a convex combination of Liu-storey conjugate gradient method and Fletcher-Reeves conjugate gradient method. We also prove that the search direction of any hybrid conjugate gradient method, which is a convex combination of two conjugate gradient methods, satisfies the famous D-L conjugacy condition and in the same time accords with the Newton direction with the suitable condition. Furthermore, this property doesn't depend on any line search. Next, we also prove that, moduling the value of the parameter t,the Newton direction condition is equivalent to Dai-Liao conjugacy *** strong Wolfe line search conditions are *** global convergence of this new method is *** comparisons show that the present hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm is the efficient one.

symbiotic relationships between fungal endophytes and grass species are known to increase stress resistance in the grass host;however,there is little evidence to suggest that the positive effects occur early in the grass life *** this study,we explored the effects of the endophyte Epichloe¨festucae on the growth and survival of Festuca eskia seedlings under drought and frequent cutting *** Festuca eskia seedlings were collected from the western part of the plant repartition area in a non-symbiotic population located in a mesic and heavily grazed site(W-Ns)and from the eastern part in a symbiotic population from a xeric and lightly grazed site(E-s).The E-s population was experimentally freed from its endophyte(E-F).Two greenhouse experiments were conducted to compare growth and survival between the three seedling types under drought stress and frequent *** the first experiment,126 seedlings per seedling type(n=378)were grown for 6 weeks under non-limiting conditions before the cessation of *** 3 weeks without irrigation,full irrigation was restored for 10 days to measure the survival *** length,leaf elongation rate and survival rate were assessed per *** the second experiment,156 seedlings per seedling type(n=468)were grown under non-limiting *** seedlings were cut to 3 cmhigh,twice a week,during the first month of *** elongation and tillering were monitored on 52 seedlings per seedling *** each type,seedling survival rate was determined by the number of plants alive after 10 days of regrowth,without *** Findings The drought experiment revealed a phenotypic differentiation to drought in 30 *** populations,suggesting adaptive differentiation:the eastern seedlings showed the highest survival rate.A tradeoff between growth and survival was highlighted:the highest drought survival rate was associated with the lowest leaf elongation rate under non-limiting water ***

Water yield and biomass production for on a eucalypt-dominated Mediterranean catchment under different climate scenarios

Worldwide,forests are vital in the regulation of the water cycle regulation and in water balance *** of ecohydrological responses of production forests is essential to support management strategies,especially where water is already *** climatological patterns are expected to impact thermopluviometric regimes,water cycle components,hydrological responses,and plant physiology,evapotranspiration rates,crop productivity and land management *** work(1)assessed the impacts of different predicted climate conditions on water yield;(2)inferred the impacts of climate change on biomass production on eucalypt-to-eucalypt succes *** this end,the widely accepted soil and Water Assessment Tool(sWAT)was run with the RCA,HIRHAM5 and RACMO climate models for two emission scenarios(RCP 4.5 and8.5).Three 12-year periods were considered to simulate tree growth under coppice *** results revealed an overall reduction in streamflow and water yield in the catchment in line with the projected reduction in total annual ***,HIRHAM5 and RACMO models forecast a slight shift in seasonal streamflow of up to 2 months(for2024-2048)in line with the projected increase in precipitation from May to *** biomass production,the extreme climate model(RCA)and severe emis sion scenario(RCP 8.5)predicted a decrease up to 46%.However,in the less extreme and more-correlated(with actual catchment climate conditions)climate models(RACMO and HIRHAM5)and in the less extreme emission scenario(RCP 4.5),biomass production increased(up to 20%),and the growth cycle was slightly *** was proven to be a valuable tool to assess climate change impacts on a eucalypt-dominated catchment and is a suitable decision-support tool for forest managers.

Background and objectives:Lung cancer(LC)is the leading cause of cancer *** treated with chemotherapy are at risk of developing chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia(FN),a potentially life-threatening *** aims of this study were(1)to characterize FN admissions of patients with LC in a pulmonology department,and(2)to determine associations between patient profiles,first-line antibiotic failure(FLAF)and ***:Retrospective observational case-series,based on the analysis of medical records of LC patients that required hospitalization due to chemotherapy-induced ***:A total of 42 cases of FN were revised,corresponding to 36 patients,of which 86.1%were male,with a mean age of 66.71±9.83 *** patients had a performance status(Ps)equal or less than 1,and metastatic disease was present in 40.5%(n=17).Respiratory tract infections accounted for 42.9%(n=18)of FN cases,and multidrug-resistant staphylococcus aureus was the most isolated *** mortality rate was 16.7%(n=7),and the FLAF was 26.2%(n=11).Mortality was associated with a Ps≥2(P=0.011),infection by a Gram-negative agent(P=0.001)and severe anemia(P=0.048).FLAF was associated with longer hospitalizations(P=0.020),Ps≥2(P=0.049),respiratory infections(P=0.024),and infection by a Gram-negative(P=0.003)or multidrug-resistant agent(P=0.014).Conclusions:Lower Ps,severe anemia,and infections by Gram-negative or multi-resistant agents seem to be associated with worse outcomes in FN patients.

Novel antibacterial materials for implants and medical instruments are essential to develop practical strategies to stop the spread of healthcare associated infections. This study presents the synthesis of multifunctional antibacterial nanocoatings on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMs) by remote plasma assisted deposition of sublimated chlorhexidine powders at low pressure and room temperature. The obtained materials present effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli K12, either by contact killing and antibacterial adhesion or by biocide agents release depending on the synthetic parameters. In addition, these multifunctional coatings allow the endure hydrophilization of the hydrophobic PDMs surface, thereby improving their biocompatibility. Importantly, cell-viability tests conducted on these materials also prove their non-cytotoxicity, opening a way for the integration of this type of functional plasma films in biomedical devices.

Aims:We aimed to compare cancer survivors’fatigue expression with that of the general population and examine psychobiological factors associated with ***:In this quantitative,transversal study,we analyzed clinical and sociodemographic indicators of 389 participants(68.38%females):148 cancer survivors on active treatment,55 disease-free survivors,75 patients with another chronic disease,and 111 healthy ***:Fatigue was expressed dissimilarly in patients with a previous history of cancer and participants without a history of *** on active treatment reported significantly higher levels of fatigue than the other clinical status ***,some level of cancer-related fatigue persisted,in a similar pattern,after active treatment into the survivorship ***-free survivors showed significantly lower vigor levels when compared to patients with other chronic *** distress and daytime sleepiness emerged as transdiagnostic factors associated with ***:Cancer-related fatigue may have a unique pattern,characterized by reduced endurance and muscle *** the present study,psychological distress and daytime sleepiness are associated with cancer-related *** findings suggest the pertinence of future studies examining whether interventions targeting those factors may help manage this burdensome complaint.
