Introduction: Hospital Recreation (HR) aims to reduce disasters caused by hospital admission. Objectives: To expose the behavior of children in cancer treatment (CA) during HR, and to verify which recreational activities generate the most adherence. Methods: The research is an experimental clinical trial of a non-probabilistic and intentional sample, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Participants were 43 children (both sexes), with CA, admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Oncology Center—PHOC. The mean age of the children in fact was 7.5 years, and the data of mean and standard deviation between parenthood confer with the data of the results found during the research. The study lasted 12 weeks, with 38 sessions lasting 3 hours. Using games of activity: cognitive, manipulative, perceptive, creative and cooperative. Inclusion criteria: 1) being hospitalized in the PHOC, of the city of Natal;2) being released by the medical team to participate in the activities. Children who were on special care in the ICU were excluded from the study. The behavior of the children was evaluated by the observation matrix proposed by Urie Bonfenbrenner, approached by Krebs and Koller. At the end of the research, an interview was made with patients about the HR experience. Results: In the subjects the molecular behavior showed relevance of ~50%, and the cooperative of ~80% in relation to HR, and the cognitive activities showed an adhesion index of ~90%. Conclusion: The participants showed greater adherence in the cognitive activities, and the predominance of the molecular behavior in relation to hospital recreation, highlighting the cooperative behavior among the individuals. In this way, the activities of HR can complement conventional medical treatment.

Experimental Investigation of Solid Fuel Combustion Process in a Hybrid Porous Reactor

One of the most significant human-made methane emission sources is the MSW （municipal solid waste）, deposited on sanitary landfills and open dumps. Within this work, an alternative MSW treatment concept is presented, which could provide a relatively clean waste/biomass-to-energy transformation. The proposed procedure comprises of a combustion and a gasification （or pyrolysis） step, which are consecutively taking place in a two-stage hybrid porous reactor system. The core of the system is two packed bed reactors, in which solid fuel （waste or biomass） is mixed with inert ceramic particles of similar size. This paper overviews the initial experimental investigation of the combustion step of a hybrid mixture, composed of wood pellets （fuel） and alumina balls （inert ceramic particles） in a 250 ram-high batch reactor. The temperature profile along the reactor, the concentration of CO and the flame front propagation velocity were measured as a function of the ceramic particle size （11 and 20 mrn）, the inert-to-fuel mass ratio （0：1, 2：1, 3：1） and the airflow rate （30, 42, 60 1/min）. Experiments indicate that an increase of the mass ratio of inert-to-fuel material and a decrease of the inert ceramic particles size lead to a decrease of the maximum temperature of the packed hybrid bed. Measured CO concentrations showed strong dependence on the inert ceramic particle size, i.e. the particle size reduction from 20 to 11 mm resulted in a significant reduction of CO-emission peaks. The maximum flame front propagation velocity of 0.2 mm/sec was detected for the airflow of 42 1/min, the particle size of 20 mm and the mass ratio of 3：1.

The volatile constituents of the essential oils from leaves from the weed plants Parthenium hysterophorus and Ambrosia polystachya were identified and quantified by GLC-MS and GLC. Allelopathic activities were determined by methods that evaluated the volatile effects and the direct application of these essential oils on the seed germination and seedling vigor of lettuce. We identified 27 compounds in the essential oil from P. hysterophorus, and the main constituents were germacrene-D (35.9%), trans-β-ocimene (8.5%) and β-myrcene (7.6%). In the essential oil from A. polystachya, 40 constituents were identified and the principal compounds were germacrene-D (29.3%), trans-β-ocimene (13.6%) and β-caryophyllene (9.8%). In both methods, the essential oil from A. polystachya presented a greater potential for reducing seed germination and seedling vigor in lettuce than the essential oil from P. hysterophorus, and this activity might be attributed to its higher content of monoterpenes.

Topographical analysis of Frontal Lobe Executive Functions in Patients Following a Stroke

Objective: This study aimed to carry out a topographical analysis of frontal lobe executive function components in post-stroke patients. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study. The assessment using the WCST (Wisconsin Card Sorting Test) included sixteen patients with a clinical diagnosis of CVA and frontal lobe impairment. Results from the two groups were compared (patients with right frontal lobe impairment and patients with left frontal lobe impairment). Statistical analysis was performed using the program “Statistical Package for Social Sciences” (SPSS) Version 20.0. For comparison between groups was used Mann-Whitney test and considered the alpha level of 0.05 on the statistically significant results. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups, thus showing that executive functions are symmetrically distributed across the frontal lobes. Conclusion: Executive functions are symmetrically organized across the two frontal lobes, since the comparison between the groups did not demonstrate a statistically significant difference for any of the variables of WSCT.

Evaluation of latent links between irritable bowel syndrome and sleep quality

AIM:To examine the links between quality of sleep and the severity of intestinal symptoms in irritable bow-el syndrome(IBS).METHODS:One hundred and forty-two outpatients(110female,32 male)who met the Rome Ⅲ criteria for IBS with no psychiatric comorbidity were consecutively en-rolled in this *** on age,body mass index(BMI),and a set of life-habit variables were recorded,and IBS symptoms and sleep quality were evaluated using the questionnaires IBS Symptom Severity Score(IBS-SSS)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).The associa-tion between severity of IBS and sleep disturbances was evaluated by comparing the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score(Pearson's correlation and Fisher's exact test)and then analyzing the individual items of the IBS-SSS and PSQI questionnaires by a unitary bowel-sleep model based on item response theory(IRT).RESULTS:IBS-SSS ranged from mild to severe(120-470).The global PSQI score ranged from 1 to 17(median 5),and 60 patients were found to be poor sleepers(PSQI>5).The correlation between the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score indicated a weak association(r=0.2 and 95% CI:-0.03 to 0.35,Pana-lyzed through our unitary *** was a signif icant regressor,with patients≤50 years old showing more severe bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.38,P<0.05)and less severe sleep disturbances(posterior mean=0.49,P<0.05)than older *** daily coffee intake was correlated with a lower sever-ity of bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.31,P<0.05).Sex(female)and daily alcohol intake(modest)were correlated with less severe sleep ***:The unitary bowel-sleep mod

Existing therapies for the treatment of chronic heart failure still have some limitations and there is a pressing need for the development of new therapeutic modalities. The amniotic membrane has been used for the treatment of various diseases, such as conjunctive defects;however, the mechanisms behind its repair functions are still unclear. Regenerative medicine is seeking newer alternatives and among them, biomaterials have emerged in recent years for developing and manipulating molecules, cells, tissues or organs grown in laboratories in order to replace human body parts. Many such materials have been used for this purpose, either synthetically or biologically, in order to provide new medical devices. This review provides a wider view of the regeneration potential of the use of amniotic membrane as a potential biomaterial to facilitate the implementation of new research in surgical procedures. Amniotic membrane appears to be an alternative source of stem cells as well as an excellent biomaterial for cell-based therapeutic applications in engineering heart tissue.

目的：评估2种粘接系统[Adper Single Bond plus（3MESPE）和Clearfil SEBOND（Kuraray）]与预先是否经过Nd：YAG激光或Nd：YAG激光加氟处理的正常或龋坏牙本质粘接后的微拉伸力。材料和方法：将60颗离体第三磨牙的牙本质表面暴露后分为12组。1～6组经过pH循环产生人工龋，7～12组保持正常牙本质。牙本质表面采用3种处理方法：Nd：YAG激光照射（60mJ，15Hz．09w）1min：Nd：YAG激光照射联合氟凝胶处理：不处理（对照组）。实验组根据产品说明书要求应用粘接材料并分层堆塑制成复合树脂块（FiItek Z250．3M ESPE），牙齿沿X和Y轴方向做连续片切．应用万能试验仪进行微拉伸力试验。结果：通过ANOVA和Tukey统计分析（P〈0.05）发现正常牙本质应用Clearfil SE Bond组的平均粘接力最大（4065MPa）．SingleBond组次之（342MPa）。龋坏牙本质组无论是否事先经过激光照射应用两种粘接系统后的粘接力明显下降。但激光照射后应用Clearfil SE Bond组微拉伸粘接力最高。另外．激光照射联合氟化物处理后应用两种粘接系统的微拉伸力有所下降。结论：与全酸蚀粘接系统和激光照射相比．临床上在备洞时用激光照射龋坏牙本质．然后应用自酸蚀粘接系统可以获得较高的粘接力。

Response to vernalization and photoperiod are the main determinants controlling the time to flowering in temperate cereals. While the individual genes that determine a plant's response to these environmental signals are well characterized, the combinatorial effect on flowering time of allelic variants for multiple genes remains unresolved. This study investigated the genetic control of flowering-time in a biparental population of spring barley, derived from a wide cross between a late-flowering European and an early-flowering North-American cultivar. While the major flowering time genes are not segregating in the Beka ×Logan cross, large variation in flowering was observed. We identified five QTL, with both parents found to contribute early alleles. The catalog of QTL discovered aligns with several candidate genes affecting flowering time in barley. The combination of particular alleles at HvCEN, HvELF3 and HvFT1 in Logan are responsible for the earliness of this cultivar. Interestingly, earliness for flowering could be further enhanced, with Beka found to contribute three early alleles, including a QTL colocating with a HvFD-like gene, suggesting that there are diverse aspects of the flowering-time pathway that have been manipulated in these two cultivars. Epistatic interactions between flowering-time QTL or candidate genes were observed in field data and confirmed under controlled conditions. The results of this study link photoperiod-dependent flowering-time genes with earliness per se genes into a single model, thus providing a unique framework that can be used by geneticists and breeders to optimize flowering time in barley.
