Purpose： This study was to investigate the association between ulnar variance（UV） and biological and training characteristics, handgrip, and wrist pain in a group of 23 Portuguese skeletally immature male gymnasts（aged 11.2 2.5 years）.Methods： Left and right UV was obtained using Hafner＇s procedure and skeletal age was determined by the TannereWhitehouse 3-method. A negative mean value for UV measures was observed（ 2.4 to 3.6 mm） without significant differences with increasing age-category（ p=0.09 to p=0.48）. Significant low correlations were observed between some UV parameters and stature, fat percentage, years of training, and left handgrip ***： Ten gymnasts reported wrist pain with gradual onset and UV values were very similar between painless and painful ***： The findings of this study do not directly support the thesis that gymnastics training and biological variables or wrist pain are associated with UV.

Objectives: To compare groups of etiologic agents for neonatal fungemia based on previously published case reports with regard to case outcomes. Methods: Secondary analysis of data from case reports published in scientific literature indexed in Medline, Scopus and LILACS databases, and starting from the year, full texts were registered until the year 2010. Results: Thirty-four species of fungi were isolated in 252 cases reported over a 40-year period. The distribution of fungal groups according to the development level of a case’s region of origin was very uneven (p Aspergillus sp.) in more developed countries. However, 73% of the chi-squared distribution corresponded to differences observed in the frequency of Candida sp. and non-albicans Candida. While the frequency of candidemia by C. albicans was progressively declining in the period from 1966 to 2010, reports of non-albicans candidemia and other non-Candida fungi became significantly (p albicans Candida or non-Candida fungi were isolated. Conclusion: fungi of the genera Candida and Aspergillus were the etiologic agents most frequently identified in published cases of neonatal fungemia;the outcome of death was more often related to cases where non-albicans Candida or non-Candida fungi were isolated.

Camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia (H.B.K.) Mc Vaugh) is a fruit native to the Amazon region and is considered the greatest natural source of vitamin C worldwide. It is also a promising source of many phenolic compounds, including flavonoids and anthocyanins. Given the growing rates of chronic non-communicable diseases such as dyslipidemia, obesity and diabetesworldwide, freeze-dried camu-camu can be used for its functional properties, which can reduce the incidence of these diseases. Hence, the objective of this study was to produce freeze-dried camu-camu pulp and present it as an alternative functional food because of its high production and use potential, adding value to this fruit in particular, not very demanded by the food industry. Freeze-dried camu-camu pulp is a pink, homogeneous powder with great antioxidant capacity, 52,000 μmol TE/g, six times greater than freeze-dried acai powder. It is also very rich in vitamin C (20.31 g/100g), potassium (796.99 mg/100g), carbohydrates (47.00 g/100g), dietary fiber (19.23 g/100 g), many amino acids, other vitamins, and anthocyanins (0.739 mg/g). The camu-camu freeze-drying process is an effective alternative way to preserve the fruit, preserving its macronutrient and vitamin C contents. Camu-camu is also an excellent source of other bioactive compounds, such as minerals and other phenolic compounds. In conclusion, camu-camu can be used to introduce bioactive compounds into food products and to delay or prevent many human diseases.

Objective: To evaluate the acaricidal activity of the essential oil obtained from roots of Derris floribunda(D. floribunda)(Miq.) Benth, and its main constituent nerolidol against the Mexican mite Tetranychus mexicanus(T. mexicanus)(Mc Gregor).Methods: The essential oil from the roots of D. floribunda collected in the Amazon region(Brazil) was obtained by hydrodistillation. Its chemical composition was determined by GC–MS analysis. The acaricidal activities of this essential oil and nerolidol,were evaluated by recording the number of dead females(mortality) and eggs(fertility).Results: The essential oil showed sesquiterpenes as major volatile components. Nerolidol, the main component, represented 68.5% of the total composition of the essential oil. D. floribunda essential oil and nerolidol showed acaricidal activity, with LC_(50) of9.61 mg/m L air and 9.2 mg/m L air, respectively, over a 72 h period. In addition, both the essential oil and nerolidol significantly reduced the fecundity of T. ***: Due to the economic importance of T. mexicanus and the lack of new pesticides, our data are very promising in the search for efficient and safer acaricidal products. Furthermore, this is the first report about the chemical composition and bioactivity of the essential oil of the Amazon plant species D. floribunda.

One of the major characteristics of human skin photoaging induced by ultraviolet(UV) radiation is the dehydration of theskin. Water movement across plasma membrane occurs via diffusion through lipid bilayer and via aquaporins (AQPs). We find thatUV induces aquaporin-3 (AQP3) down-regulation in human skin keratinocytes. MEK/ERK inhibitors PD98059 and U0126 inhibitUV-induced down-regulation of AQP3. Antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine or NAC blocks UV-induced MEK/ERK activation and down-regulation of AQP3. All-trans retinoic acid or atRA, while alone inducing AQP3 expression, attenuates UV-induced down-regulationof AQP3 and water permeability. Using special inhibitors, we find that activation of EGFR and inhibition on ERK activation are in-volved in atRA’s protective effects against UV-induced AQP3 down-regulation. Using specific AQP3’s water transport inhibitors andsiRNA knockdown, we observe that AQP3 is involved in cell migration and in vitro wound healing. UV-induced AQP3 down-regula-tion results in reduced water permeability, decreased cell migration, and delayed wound healing, which are attenuated by atRApretreatment. We conclude that atRA protects against UV-induced down-regulation AQP3 and decrease in water permeability, reduc-tion in cell migration and delayed in vitro wound healing via trans-activation of EGFR and inhibition on ROS-mediated MEK/ERKpathway. This novel finding provides evidence to support possible involvement of AQP3 in UV induced skin dehydration.

The objective of this study is to formulate and assess technologies for producing yogurt with camu-camu pulp, which has market potential and can be included in school meals, providing the general population with a nutritious and functional product. Three formulations of yogurt with camu-camu pulp were prepared, F1 10%, F2 13%, and F3 15%, with the following ingredients: whole UHT (Ultra High Temperature) milk, camu-camu pulp, dairy culture, and sugar. The micro-biological characteristics of the final products were within the standards recommended by ANVISA. Regarding sensory assessment, formulation 1 achieved the highest acceptability. The chemical, physical, and microbiological parameters were within the limits established by the legislation, and the acceptability of the formulation containing 10% camu-camu pulp was satisfactory. This is a more quality food option for the Amazonian and Brazilian population.

Fruits are unarguably one of the main sources of dietary fiber, but are regional Amazonian fruits sources of dietary fiber? The objective of the present study was to assess the nutritional characteristics and fiber contents of fresh fruits with low energy density. The study fruits wereabiu, bacuri, carambola, ingá-cipó, mapati, and taperebá acquired from the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA) and collected along kilometers 08 and 60 of highway BR174, AM-Brasil. Ash, protein, lipid, carbohydrate, energy and fiber contents were determined three times. The six fruits have very small and significantly different protein contents (p < 0.05). Taperebá and mapati presented the highest (4.65 g) and lowest (0.84 g) fiber contents, respectively. Except for abiu (0.49 g), the low lipid contents of the study fruits confirmed their low energy density. The soluble fiber content of the fruits was generally low, being highest in taperebá (1.51 g). The insoluble fiber fraction prevailed in all six study fruits, with taperebá and mapati presenting the highest (3.14 g) and lowest (0.65 g) insoluble fiber contents, respectively. The dietary fiber contents show that the study fruits can contribute to the composition of diets with appropriate dietary fiber contents and low energy densities.

Application of the Principles of Lean Thinking in the Post Construction Department

The increase on the competitiveness, the search on the customer satisfaction, the search by reducing waste in the civil construction were facts which helped entrepreneurs and companies to seek new ways of working, being lean construction one of the ways to get that. Studies report that the application of the lean tools in construction was carried out in an isolated way. This type of application was pointed as a major factor limiting the extent of achievement in implementing lean principles. The aim of this studies is to identify opportunities to implement the principles of lean production in the service department of a construction company in Goi^is, proposing routines that try to implement the continuous improvement of its processes, eliminating waste, reducing the lead time, allow it to perform the mapping processes, applying the just-in-time and among others, providing services that add value to the customer satisfaction. It was possible to establish the average time for each step, allowing to identify possible improvements in the department, from the perspective of lean principles. The research paper concludes by pointing out the activities for the Department of Post Construction work from building companies, from lean concepts.
