Assessment of tear film parameters post-treatment with commercial ey.lid cleaning wipes:a pilot study

AIM:To investigate the short-term effects of commercially.available ey.lid-cleaning wipes on film ***:This study.enrolled 48 healthy.participants aged 20-35y.both males and females).Clinical assessment included the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)questionnaire,non-invasive tear break-up time(NITBUT),tear meniscus height(TMH),and lipid lay.r pattern(LLP).Based on these initial results,participants were categorized as either non-dry.ey. or dry.*** in each group were randomly.allocated to either Blephaclean■or Sy.tane■*** in NITBUT,TMH,and LLP levels before and after lid wipe treatment were ***:The dry.ey. group exhibited significantly.higher OSDI scores and lower NITBUT and TMH levels than in the non-dry.ey. group(Py.lid wipes(Sy.tane■wipes),dry.ey. subjects experienced a significant improvement in NITBUT levels(P=0.0014)compared to the non-dry.ey. *** the remaining participants showed a marginal increase in TMH and NITBUT levels,these changes did not achieve statistical significance(P>0.05).Similarly.the LLP levels were significantly.improved with Sy.tane■(Py.ey. ***,the dry.ey. subjects showed higher posttreatment LLP levels than the untreated group(Py.tane®ey.lid wipes on tear film parameters suggest their effectiveness in dry.ey. ***,further exploration of their long-term impact is essential to justify.their cost effectiveness and efficacy.in treating both aqueous deficiency.and evaporative dry.ess.

Background:Intimate partner violence(IPV)is a worldwide issue with a high prevalence rate seen *** and Objectives:To plan and implement preventive measures,it is important to understand the characteristics,background,and medico-legal significance,especially.from the perspective of *** and Methods:This study.is a questionnaire-based retrospective study.conducted among perpetrators of IPV who presented to a tertiary.care hospital in Sri ***:Out of 325 subjects,97.2%were males and 64.0%were aged 26–45 ***(80.9%)perpetrators were older than the victimized partner,with a mean age gap of 4.3 *** 2.8%had achieved higher education and 78.5%had been married to the victim for more than5 *** and/or other substances were abused by.75.4%and 11.1%of them were diagnosed with a psy.hiatric *** have been exposed to child abuse(CA)as minors(50.1%),with phy.ical CA being the most common,whereas 42.5%had witnessed IPV during their ***-treatment by.the spouse(odds ratio[OR]=24[95%confidence interval(CI):5.6,99.9])and substance use(OR=22[95%CI:5.1,91.5])were significantly.associated with perpetrating emotional violence.A victim having an extramarital affair was 5.1 times more likely.to be subjected to sexual IPV,whereas previous IPV,parental deprivation,and affairs of perpetrator were proved to be protective *** had negatively.affected the economy.of 71.3%of *** procedures were expected by.22.4%,whereas 60%wanted to negotiate with their ***:Families having low income and alcohol/substance abuse should be targeted to plan preventive programs at the community.*** counseling and follow-up of victims of CA can be used as a primary.preventive measure of IPV.

In this paper, samples of antimony.doped Bi-based superconductor with stoichiometric composition Bi1.7Pb0.2Sb0.1Sr2Ca2Ca3O10 were prepared by.a solid state reaction method. The effect of sintering time on the superconducting properties was studied;all samples were sintered in air at 850°C for different sintering time (80, 100, 120, 140, and 160) h. X-ray.diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy.(SEM) measurements were performed for determination of the cry.tal structure and surface morphology.of samples, respectively. All samples showed an orthorhombic structure with two phases, high-Tc phase (2223) and low-Tc phase (2212) in addition to an impure phase. It has been observed that the critical temperature and the high-Tc phase increases and appears to be the dominant phase when the sintering time is increased to 140 h, while with increasing sintering time to 160 h, both Tc and the high phase started to decrease. (SEM) results show that increasing sintering time enhances the growing of superconducting phase unidirectional and suppresses the high phase intrusion which leads to the production of nearly.single Bi-2223 phase with higher Tc.

Nickel was supported on varied ratios of ceria-titania mixed oxides（Ni/CexTiy.2） to evaluate the role the support play. in photothermal carbon dioxide hy.rogenation to produce methane. In a batch photothermal reactor sy.tem, Ni/CeO2achieved the highest conversion rate, reaching a conversion of 93% in approximately.0–90 min. To decouple the influence of light and heat, the CO2hy.rogenation was examined in an in-house designed photothermal reactor, whereby.heat can be applied externally. Decoupling experiments revealed that heat from the thermalisation by.light was the main driving force for the reaction. In addition, the conversion and temperature profile of the different cataly.ts revealed that the cataly.t performance was governed by.cataly.t reducibility. H2-TPR analy.es showed that the Ni became more readily.reducible with increasing Ce O2content,suggesting that the oxide play. a role in activating the Ni. The reduction temperature of the nickel cataly.t（following a reduction and passivation process） was below 200 °C, which meant that the inherent heating temperature of the photothermal reactor was sufficient to initiate Ni/CexTiy.2cataly.t activity. The exothermic methanation reaction was then able to heat the sy.tem further, ultimately.reaching a temperature of 285 °C. The ancillary.rise in temperature promotes further nickel reduction and methane formation, leading to a "snow-ball"effect. The findings demonstrate that, to achieve a "snow-ball" effect in a photothermal sy.tem, designing a cataly.t which is easy.to reduce, active for CO2hy.rogenation, and capable of converting light to heat for its initial activation is critical.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a health problem affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Diabetic nephropathy.(DN), as a significant complication of DM, has become the most common cause of endstage renal failure. Oxidative stress constitutes the key.and common events in the pathogenesis of DN and antioxidants may.play.a beneficial role in its prevention. This study.was conducted to investigate the effect of Zinc Chloride on streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy.in rats compared to Gliclazide, a reference antidiabetic agent. Results showed that Zinc Chloride was able to control STZ-induced DN in rats as it normalized the elevated blood pressure, the increased insulin release, and the decreased blood glucose level. Zinc Chloride also improved kidney.function as determined by.the restoration of blood urea and creatinine level. Finally. Zinc Chloride was able to boost the antioxidant defenses of the kidney.by.increasing the reduced glutathione content and decreasing lipid peroxides content in addition to significantly.decreasing kidney.nitric oxide content compared to diabetic control rats. These results suggest that exposure to Zinc Chloride can protect from diabetic nephropathy.and can be used as an adjuvant approach to treatment and prevention of renal damage.

Objective To evaluate immunologic mechanisms underly.ng Aspergillus fumigatus pulmonary.infections in immunocompetent Dark Agouti （DA） and Albino Oxford （AO） rats recognized as being susceptible to some inflammatory.diseases in different manners. Methods Lung fungal burden （quantitative colony.forming units, CFU, assay., leukocy.e infiltration （histology. cell composition） and their function （phagocy.osis, oxidative activity. CDllb adhesion molecule expression） and cy.okine interferon-y.（IFN-y. and interleukin-17 and -4 （IL-17 and IL-4） lung content were evaluated following infection （intratracheally. lxl07 conidia）. Results Slower reduction of fungal burden was observed in AO rats in comparison with that in DA rats, which was coincided with less intense histologically.evident lung cell infiltration and leukocy.e recovery.as well as lower level of most of the their activities including intracellular my.loperoxidase activity. the capacity.of nitroblue tetrazolium salt reduction and CDllb adhesion molecule expression （except for phagocy.osis of conidia） in these rats. Differential patterns of changes in proinflammatory.cy.okine levels （unchanged levels of IFN-v and transient increase of IL-17 in AO rats vs continuous increase of both cy.okines in DA rats） and unchanged levels of IL-4 were observed. Conclusion Genetically.based differences in the pattern of antifungal lung leukocy.e activities and cy.okine milieu, associated with differential efficiency.of fungal elimination might be useful in the future use of rat models in studies of pulmonary.aspergillosis.

Twenty.samples of ground water were collected from different wells in Al-Baha region which is located at south-east of Saudi Arabia. Gamma spectrometer based on HPGe cry.tal was applied to determine activity.concentrations in Bq·L-1 of the natural radio nuclides: Radium-226 and Thorium-232 series also Potassium-40. The measured results indicate that the average concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in the studied samples were 0.85, 0.43, and 2.84 Bq·L-1, respectively. The average annual estimated effective dose was found to be 0.058 mSv/y.which is lower than the annual limit of the dose allowed by.WHO Thus, it has no harmful effects on health.

Measurement of natural radioactivity.levels of major and heavy.metals concentration was carried out for water samples collected from primary.schools in Jeddah city. Saudi Arabia. The estimations were done for two different age groups, children (students 7 - 12 y. and adults (teachers and workers > 17 y. at the schools. The chemical analy.is was performed by.an Inductively.Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry.(ICP-OES) and a high-resolution HPGe detector was used for the natural radionuclides measurement. The obtained results for the heavy.metals (Fe, Cu, and Zn) and major and heavy.elements (Na, K, Ca and Mg) concentrations in all water samples did not exceed the limits of WHO, EPA and TSE-266 guidelines for drinking water. Only.Pb exceeded the safe limit. Generally. heavy.metals and major elements’ concentrations in water samples were found decrease in sequence of Ca > Na > Mg > K > Zn > Pb > Cu > Fe. The radioactivity.concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in all studied samples were below the permissible safe limit value. The total average annual effective doses of (226Ra + 232Th + 40K) radionuclides were 0.259 mSv.y.1 for the children and 0.112 mSv.y.1 for adults, which are below the recommended annual dose level 1.0 mSv.y.1 as reported by.WHO (2006). The present drinking waters are high quality.waters and safe in terms of natural radioactivity.and the results of the HQ values for the individual heavy.metals showed that there was no health risk for humans due to consumption of these waters.
