Background: Sustained lung inflation (SLI) would permit lung recruitment immediately after birth, improving lung mechanics and reducing the need for intubation and subsequent respiratory support in the neonatal intensive care unit among preterm infants. Aim of the Study: To assess the efficacy of initial sustained lung inflation compared to standard intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) in preterm infants who need resuscitation in delivery room. Methods: This was prospective randomized observational study that was conducted in the delivery room and NICU of A in shames University hospital from February 2019 to September 2019. The study included 115 preterm infants between 26 - 32 weeks of gestation who needed resuscitation at delivery room. The infants were randomly allocated into 2 groups;SLI group: included the preterm infants who received the SLI at initial inflation pressure of 25 cm H2O for 15 seconds using the Neopuff/T piece. Gastroparesis among Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetic Patients in the United Arab Emirates

Aims: Delayed gastric emptying (GE)may have a major effect on the management of diabetic patients by causing upper gastrointestinal symptoms, impaired oral drug absorption and contributing to poor blood sugar control. Although the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has one of the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world, studies focusing on the prevalence of diabetes gastroparesis among these diabetics have never been reported previously. The aim of this study was to investigate gastroparesis among randomly selected Emirati type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients referred to a national diabetes center in the UAE. Methods: The study was designed as a controlled, single-blinded study. Using a standardized ultrasound technique, GE was studied in thirty-one randomly recruited type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients and ten normal healthy volunteers. The gastric emptying rate (GER) was estimated and expressed as the percentage reduction in antral cross-sectional area from 15 to 90 min after the ingestion of a semisolid breakfast meal. Results:In comparison to healthy volunteers, diabetic patients showed overall significantly wider mean values of the fasting as well as the postprandial antral areas. The mean value of GER in these Emirati diabetic patients was estimated at 17%, which was less than half of that in the healthy volunteers (50%). Statistically the difference was highly significant (p 32%. Consequently, 71% (22 of 31) of the diabetic patients in this study had more or less pronounced delays in GER (gastroparesis).Conclusions:The results from the present study indicate a higher prevalence of gastroparesis among randomly selected Emirati type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients, than in any other study previously published around the world. This is in line with previous reports about the high prevalence of diabetes complications among UAE diabetics. A larger study is needed to confirm these results.

采用放电等离子烧结(SPS)法将元素钛粉和镍粉制备成Ti-51%Ni形状记忆合金(SMAs)。研究目的是采用自由锻二次加工以提高SPS合金的性能。对自由锻前后合金的显微组织、相变温度和超弹性进行比较。结果表明,自由锻可以显著提高Ti-Ni形状记忆合金的拉伸强度和形状记忆性能,自由锻后合金的韧性从6.8%提高到了9.2%,超弹性的应变范围从5%增加到7.5%,应变恢复速率从72%提高到92%。Ti-51%Ni合金显微组织中含有立方奥氏体相(B2)基体、单斜马氏体相(B19′)、第二相(Ti_3Ni_4,Ti_2Ni和TiNi_3)和氧化物相(Ti_4Ni_2O,Ti_3O_5)。自由锻后再经500°C时效处理的最终样品的马氏体相变温度向高温方向偏移,这是由于Ti_3Ni_4相(透射电镜下可以观察到)的析出而导致基体中Ni含量的减少。总之,自由锻可以提高Ti-51%Ni形状记忆合金的超弹性和力学性能。

The synthesis and structural characterization of cobalt(II) complexes of amino acid Schiff bases was prepared from Salicylaldehyde and three amino acid (Valine, Leucine, and Isoleucine)?in basic medium. The metal complexes was synthesized by treating an ethanolic solution of the ligand with appropriate amount of metal salts [1:2] [M:L] ratio. The synthesized Schiff bases and their metal complexes have been investigated on the bases of elemental chemical analysis, FTIR, electronic spectral,?1HNMR,?13CNMR, MS, molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The electronic spectra of the metal complexes and their magnetic susceptibility measurements suggest octahedral structures are the probable coordination geometries for the isolated complexes. The Schiff bases and their metal complexes were preliminary scanned against various strains of microbes to study their biological effect.

Background: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) continues to be an important problem in neonates especially premature infants despite improved facilities of care, monitoring and treatment. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a major complicating factor and key cause of mortality in this population. Altered vascular and alveolar growth particularly in canalicular and early saccular stages of lung development following mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy result in arrest of the lung development leading to BPD with PH. Early recognition of PH in infants with these risk factors is important for optimal management. We tested the hypothesis that asymmetric dimethylarginine, would be greater in infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia associated pulmonary hypertension than in infants with BPD alone. The Aim: The aim of the current study was to measure the Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels, arginine levels & the plasma arginine-to-ADMA ratio in newborn infants with broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, to evaluate echocardiographic parameters among neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, to correlate between plasma ADMA & arginine-to-ADMA ratio and echocardiographic (ECHO) parameters in those patients and to compare full term & preterm neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia as regard to plasma ADMA level. Methods: A case-control study was carried out of ninety (90) newborns selected from those admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Maternity & Children Hospital and Alzhraa University hospital during the period from October 2015 to March 2018. Neonates were divided into 2 groups: Patient with BPD with PH (cases group): It included 45 neonates with BPD & PH, 35 preterm neonates and 10 full term neonates. Patient with BPD only (Control group): It included 45 neonates with BPD without PH. These 45 neonates were divided as 22 preterm neonates and 23 full term neonates. In order to determine the most suitable cytokinin for the micropropagation of carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.), the effect of four cytokinins: BAP, zeatin, kinetin and 2-iP, was tested on explants derived from young seedlings of seven days. Organogenesis is better in the presence of BAP (0.5 mg/l), while buds growth is favored by zeatin (0.5 mg/l). The combination of the most suitable cytokinin (BAP at 0.5 mg/l) with IBA improves the caulogenesis when the concentration of this latter is low (0.1 mg/l);high concentrations of IBA have an inhibitory effect on elongation and neoformation of shoots and leaves. The multiplication and growth of shoots are more favorable on WPM medium in the presence of BAP (0.5 and 1 mg/l) alone or combined with 0.5 mg/l with GA3, while rooting is mainly favored by IBA, especially at 2 mg/l.

BACKGROUND The central venous line is an essential component in monitoring and managing critically ill ***,it poses patients with increased risks of severe infections with a higher probability of morbidity and *** To define the trends of the rates of central line-associated bloodstream infections(CLABSI)over four years,its predicted risk factors,aetiology,and the antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolated *** The study was a prospective case-control study,performed according to the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control surveillance methodology for CLABSI in patients admitted to the adult intensive care unit(ICU)and auditing the implementation of its prevention *** Thirty-four CLABSI identified over the study period,giving an average CLABSI rate of 3.2/1000 central line *** infection's time trend displayed significant reductions over time concomitantly with the CLABSI prevention bundle's reinforcement from 4.7/1000 central line days at the beginning of 2016 to 1.4/1000 central line days by *** most frequently identified pathogens causing CLABSI in our ICU were gram-negative organisms(59%).The most common offending organisms were Acinetobacter,Enterococcus,and Staphylococcus epidermidis,each of them accounted for 5 cases(15%).Multidrug-resistant organisms contributed to 56%of *** rate was higher when using femoral access and longer hospitalisation duration,especially in the *** of the central line in the non-ICU setting was another identified risk *** Implementing the prevention bundles reduced CLABSI significantly in our *** the CLABSI prevention bundle is crucial to maintain a substantial reduction in the CLABSI rate in the ICU setting.

Four simple, sensitive and accurate spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the determination of some calcium channel blockers: Amlodipine besylate (ADB), Diltiazem hydrochloride (DTZ) and Verapamil hydrochloride (VPM) in pharmaceutical formulations. These methods based on formation ion pair complexes with Sulfochlorophenol-S (SCPS), Bromopyrogallol red (BPR), Eriochromecyanine- R (ECC) and Pyrocatechol violet (PCV) in acidic medium. The colored products are extracted with chloroform and measured spectrophoto- metrically at 462, 600, 440 and 442 for ECC, SCPS, BPR and PCV, respectively. Beer’s low was obeyed in the concentration range, for ECC: 25 - 175 μg·ml-1, 50 - 150 μg·ml-1 or 100 - 250 μg·ml-1, for SCPS: 300 - 800 μg·ml-1, 200 - 700 μg·ml-1 or 100 - 550 μg·ml-1, for BPR: 50 - 400 μg·ml-1, 200 - 700 μg·ml-1 or 200 - 700 μg·ml-1 for VPM, DTZ or ADB, respectively and for PCV: 50 - 250 μg·ml-1 for VPM or 200 - 500 μg·ml-1 for DTZ with molar absorptivity, for ECC: 2.2 × 104, 2.1 × 104, 1.6 × 104 L·mol-1·cm-1, for SCPS: 3.8 × 103, 5.6 × 103, 8.1 × 103 L·mol-1·cm-1, for BPR: 11 × 103, 4.8 × 103, 6.9 × 103 L·mol-1·cm-1 for VPM, DTZ or ADB, respectively and for PCV: 19.5 × 103 L·mol-1·cm-1 for VPM and 6.6 × 103 L·mol-1·cm-1 for DTZ and relative standard deviation, for ECC: 0.76%, 0.86%, 0.46%, for SCPS: 0.94%, 0.96%, 0.86%, for BPR: 0.96%, 0.95%, 0.55% for VPM, DTZ or ADB, respectively and for PCV: 0.81% for VPM and 0.65% for DTZ. These methods have been successfully applied for the assay of drug in pharmaceutical formulations. No interference was observed from common pharmaceutical adjuvants. Statistical comparison of the results with the reference method shows excellent agreement and indicates no significant difference in accuracy and precision.
