Isokinetic trunk flexion-extension protocol to assess trunk muscle strength and endurance:Reliability,learning effect,and sex differences

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and the learning effect of an isokinetic trunk flexion-extension protocol designed to simultaneously assess trunk muscle strength and *** addition,the effect of the participants’sex on the reliability data was ***:Fifty-seven healthy and physically active young men(n=28)and women(n=29)performed the isokinetic protocol 5 times,separated by a week between each of the first 4 sessions and by a month between the last 2 *** protocol consisted of performing 4 trials of 15 maximum flexion-extension concentric exertions at 120°/s(range of trunk motion=50°).The absolute and relative peak torque and total work were calculated to assess trunk flexion and extension *** addition,endurance ratio,modified endurance ratio,fatigue final ratio,recovery ratio,and modified recovery ratio variables were used for the assessment of trunk muscle endurance in both ***:Regarding the absolute reliability,no relevant changes were found between paired-comparison sessions for most strength and endurance variables,except for total work and relative total work variables in the flexion movement in both *** addition,the typical error of the isokinetic variables was lower than 10%in both males and females,and minimum detectable changes ranged from 7%to 20%,with a tendency to be higher in females and in endurance *** strength variables showed high-to-excellent intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs;>0.74);however,for the endurance variables only the endurance ratio and the modified endurance ratio obtained moderate-to-high ICC values(0.57lysis of the variance reported no significant differences between consecutive pairs of sessions for most variables in both ***:Overall,these findings provide clinicians,trainers,and researchers with a 10-min single-session protocol to perform a reliable muscle strength and endurance evaluatio

Although many causes of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)may exist,both the original amyloid cascade and tau hypotheses posit that abnormal misfolding and accumulation of amyloid-β(Aβ)and tau protein is the central event causing the ***,that conclusion could be only partly true,and there is conflicting evidence about the role of both proteins in AD,being able to precede and influence one *** researchers argue that these proteins are mere executors rather than primary causes of ***,there have been continuing refinements of both hypotheses,with alternative explanations proposed.Aβand tau proteins may be independently involved in specific neurotoxic pathways;yet there may be other crucial processes going on in early ***,accumulating evidence suggests that Aβand tau act synergistically,rather than additively in disease onset(Jeremic et al.,2021,2023a).

Role of oxygen and ammonium ions in silver leaching with thiosulfate–ammonia–cupric ions

The dissolution of silver with thiosulfate and copper ions was studied in a batch-stirred reactor at 25 °C in the absence and presence of various ammonium ions and oxygen concentrations in the aqueous solution. leaching silver with 4 mg l-1oxygen in the aqueous solution requires high concentration of ammonium and thiosulfate ions. High silver dissolution is achieved at pH of high cupric tetraamine concentration, around pH 9.8, but a high degradation of thiosulfate ions is resulted from their oxidation by the presence of oxygen. When the oxygen concentration is below 1 mg l-1, dissolved silver thiosulfate species are fairly stable and the degradation of thiosulfate ions in the aqueous solution is low. Under these conditions,high silver dissolution is attained using low thiosulfate concentration. At the oxygen concentration of 4 mg l-1,dissolved silver thiosulfate species precipitate out of the aqueous solution significantly affecting silver *** of dissolved silver thiosulfate species occurs because of oxidation of the thiosulfate bonding to the silver.

Collectorless flotation of marmatite with pine oil

The interaction between pine oil and marmatite without collectors and activators was investigated by flotation,scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive spectrometer（SEM-EDS）,infrared（IR） spectroscopy,Zeta potential,and first-principle theory *** flotation results show that marmatite exhibits considerable floatability with the addition of pine ***-EDS results show that carbon atomic ratios on the surface are significantly high,which suggests that the flotation of marmatite is caused by the adsorption of pine *** evidence of the adsorption mechanism was given by IR,and Zeta potential examining pine oil depends on the physical adsorption on the surface *** first-principle theory calculations indicate that pine oil molecule adsorbs on Zn and Fe atom surfaces by ionic bond and covalent bond of adsorption energies of-1.23and-1.51 eV,respectively.P orbital of O atom,s orbital of Zn atom,and d orbital of Fe are the major participants.

Exploring the reproductive ecology of the tropical semifossorial snake Ninia atrata

Based on histological analyses and field studies,this research describes the reproductive ecology of a population of Ninia atrata snakes inhabiting an oil palm ***,through a multivariate approach,we explored the main drivers of reproductive output in *** showed that prey abundance and food intake were crucial variables contributing to reproductive *** linear regression models showed that neonates had high sensitivity(R2=55.29%)to extreme changes in climate,which was strongly related to slug and snail abundance variability and microhabitat *** cycles were markedly different between the sexes,being continuous in males and cyclical in *** this variation,reproductive cycles at the population level were seasonal *** recruitment of neonates all year,multiple clutches,high mating frequency,and continuous sperm production characterized the reproductive phenology of *** addition,a significant number of previtellogenic females presented oviductal sperm as well as uterine scars,suggesting a high precocity in the *** main drivers of reproductive output also differed between the *** females,clutch size and secondary follicle variability were highly related to stomach bolus volume,fat body area,and body *** males,height of piles of palm leaves and body mass,rather than intrinsic reproductive traits,were the main drivers of sperm ***,in both cases,the relationship between body mass,prey abundance,and food intake suggests that *** follows the income breeding strategy to compensate for reproductive costs and to maximize fitness.

Recent progress on isospin breaking corrections and their impact on the muon g-2 value

We describe some recent results on isospin breaking corrections which are of relevance for predictions of the leading order hadronic contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment aμ^*** when using τ lepton data. When these corrections are applied to the new combined data on the π^±π^0 spectral function, the prediction for aμ^*** based on τ lepton data gets closer to the one obtained using e^＋e^- data.

The role played by serendipity in the origin of modern psychopharmacology has proven to be controversial in scientific *** its original meaning(Walpole),serendipity refers to discoveries made through a combination of accidents and *** have implemented an operational definition of serendipity based on finding something unexpected or unintended,regardless of the systematic process that led to the accidental observation,and we have established four different patterns of serendipitous *** this paper,we have analyzed the role of serendipity in the discovery and development of classical antidepressant drugs,tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors as well as heterocyclic,“atypical”or“second generation”*** discovery of the antidepressant properties of imipramine and iproniazid,the prototypes of tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase inhibitors,respectively,fits the mixed type II pattern;initial serendipitous discoveries(imipramine was an antipsychotic and iproniazid was an antituberculosis agent)led secondarily to non-serendipitous *** the other components of these two families of drugs were developed specifically as antidepressants,modifying the chemical structure of the series leaders,thereby allowing all of them to be included in the type IV pattern,characterized by the complete absence of *** the heterocyclic drugs,mianserin(originally developed as an antihistamine)also falls into the type II pattern.

A new device for deep cervical artificial insemination in gilts reduces the number of sperm per dose without impairing final reproductive performance

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of a new artificial insemination(AI) device specifically designed for gilts(Deep cervical AI, Dp-CAI) by means of which the sperm is deposited deeply in the cervix(8 cm more cranial than in traditional cervical insemination-CAI). New AI techniques have arisen in recent decades in the porcine industry, such as post-cervical artificial insemination(PCAI), which involves depositing the sperm in the body of the uterus [through a catheter(outer tube)-cannula(inner tube)] rather than by CAI. Although the PCAI method has been successfully applied in farm conditions to reduce sperm doses without impairing the reproductive performance, this technique has limitations in gilts mainly because of the difficulty involved in introducing the inner cannula through the cranial part of the cervix. For this reason, the Dp-CAI method described herein may be considered as an alternative to CAI and PCAI methods in ***: Gilts were divided in two experimental groups: 1) Dp-CAI: gilts(n = 1166) inseminated using 1.5 × 109 sperm/45 m l;2) CAI(as a control group): gilts(n = 130) inseminated using 2.5 × 10~9 sperm/85 ml. The Dp-CAI method was successfully applied in 88.90% of the gilts, with no differences detected between gilts with 1 or 2 previous oestrus cycles, although the catheter could be introduced more deeply in 2 oestrus gilts(P length of the insemination device that could not be introduced increased(at the moment of insemination), so the success rate of the Dp-CAI device fell, as did the total number of piglets born. When the reproductive output in CAI and Dp-CAI was compared, none of the parameters analysed [pregnancy and farrowing rates(%), and number of piglets born(total and live)] showed significant ***: The use of the Dp-CAI technique provides a new AI method as an alternative to CAI and PCAI for pigs.
