A discrete insulin infusion based on long-time interval measurement is the classic technique for diabetes treatment. Nevertheless, in this research, a closed-loop control sy.tem was proposed for continuous drug infusion to overcome the drawbacks of these ty.ical discrete methods and develop more practical diabetes therapy.sy.tems. A blood glucose-insulin sy.tem was implemented rely.ng on continuous insulin injection model. Based on this model, two controllers were designed to deal with the control dilemma of the resulting highly.nonlinear plant. The controllers designed in this paper are: proportional integral derivative (PID), and sliding table controllers. Simulation results have shown that the sliding table controller can outperform the PID controller even with severe circumstances of disturbance in glucose, such as exercise, delay.or noise in glucose sensor and nutrition mixed meal absorption at meal times.

Handwritten signature recognition is presented based on an angle feature vector by.using the artificial neural network （ANN） in this research. Each signature image will be represented by.an angle vector. The feature vector will constitute the input to the ANN. The collection of signature images is divided into two sets. One set will be used for training the ANN in a supervised fashion. The other set which is never seen by.the ANN will be used for testing. After training, the ANN will be tested by.recognizing the signatures. When a signature is classified correctly. it is considered correct recognition, otherwise it is a failure. The achieved recognition rate of this sy.tem is 94%.

Endophy.ic flora play. a vital role in the colonization and survival of host plants, especially.in harsh environments, such as arid regions. This flora may. however, contain pathogenic species responsible for various troublesome host diseases. The present study.is aimed at investigating the diversity.of both cultivable and non-cultivable endophy.ic fungal floras in the internal tissues(roots and leaves) of Tunisian date palm trees(Phoenix dacty.ifera). Accordingly. 13 isolates from both root and leaf samples, exhibiting distinct colony.morphology. were selected from potato dextrose agar(PDA) medium and identified by.a sequence match search wherein their 18S–28S internal transcribed spacer(ITS) sequences were compared to those available in public databases. These findings revealed that the cultivable root and leaf isolates fell into two groups, namely.Nectriaceae and Pleosporaceae. Additionally. total DNA from palm roots and leaves was further extracted and ITS fragments were amplified. Restriction fragment length poly.orphism(RFLP) analy.is of the ITS from 200 fungal clones(leaves: 100; roots: 100) using HaeIII restriction enzy.e revealed 13 distinct patterns that were further sequenced and led to the identification of Alternaria, Cladosporium, Davidiella(Cladosporium teleomorph), Py.hium, Curvularia, and uncharacterized fungal endophy.es. Both approaches confirmed that while the roots were predominantly.colonized by.Fusaria(members of the Nectriaceae family., the leaves were essentially.colonized by.Alternaria(members of the Pleosporaceae family.. Overall, the findings of the present study.constitute, to the authors' knowledge, the first extensive report on the diversity.of endophy.ic fungal flora associated with date palm trees(P. dacty.ifera).

Cherry.regeneration via somatic embry.genesis is a powerful tool to breeding. In this way. the embry.genic capacity.of Prunus incisa specie has been tested from leaves under different interactions of picloram concentrations and darkness exposures. Induction culture was achieved on MS medium supplemented with picloram concentrations at 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mg.L1 and submitted to 10, 20, 30 and 40 day. of darkness. The best rate of embry.genic leaves was obtained with the interaction of 30 day. darkness exposure＊ 1 mg.L^-1 picloram. According to their age, leaves were differently.reacted to somatic embry.genesis; indeed, the 2nd expanded leaf from the apex was the most embry.genic one. Concerning the effect of additional auxin to picloram （1 mg·L^-1）, IAA at 0.1 mg·L^-1 and IBA at 0.1 mg·L^-1 gave significantly.higher induction rates than all other concentrations, but regenerating somatic embry.s showed some teratological abnormalities probably.due to seconda;y.embry.genesis. At the opposite, NAA at 0.5 mg·L^-1 didn＇t improve embry.genic rate but affected positively.embry. development. Furthermore, embry.genesis preferentially.took place on the basal part of leaf. Satisfactory.rates of somatic embry.genesis are obtained but further improvement remains possible.

Predictive Factors of Multiple Hospitalizations for Acute Exacerbations of COPD

Background: Multiple hospitalizations for acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary.disease (AECOPD) are associated with considerable morbidity.and mortality. Objectives: To identify.predictive factors of multiples hospitalizations for AECOPD. Methods: This is a retrospective single center study.of consecutive patients with COPD hospitalized at the Department of Respiratory.Medicine between January.1990 and December 2015. We calculated for each patient the mean number of hospitalizations for AECOPD/y.ar (H/y.. We distinguished 2 groups (G) of patients. G1: y.and G2: ≥2 H/y. Predictors of multiple admissions identified by.univariate analy.is were included in the multivariate analy.is. Results: The study.included 1167 COPD patients (mean age 67 ± 10 y.ars, 97% males). Three hundred six (26%) COPD patients had a mean number of hospitalizations per y.ar ≥ 2. Multivariate logistic regression analy.is demonstrated that an mMRC ≥ 2 (Odd ratio [OR] 1.8, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.08 - 2.99, p = 0.022), a low PaO2 (PaO2 OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.95 - 0.99, p = 0.007) and frequent exacerbations (OR 2.95, 95% CI 2.56 - 3.39, p y.associated with multiple hospitalizations for AECOPD. The identification of these high risk COPD patients will be helpful in the decision of intervention strategies.

Phospho-olivine pristine LiMnPO4/C and y.trium-substituted LiMn1-xy.PO4/C(x=0,0.01,0.03,0.05)were sy.thesized by.a solution combustion *** effects of y.doped on structure,morphology.and electrochemical performances were *** powder X-ray.diffraction pattern,all substituted materials adopt an identical structure to that of the LiMnPO4 olivine structure,suggesting that the y.trium ion was well inco rporated into the cry.tal lattice,without any.changes in the host cry.tal *** electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.provides clearly.that y.trium-substituting reduces the charge transfer impedance and improves the lithium ion diffusion through the *** x=0.01,the material shows an excellent capacity.and stability.during charge/discharge *** initial specific discharge capacity.can reach up to 156.84 mAh/g at C/20,with a coulombic efficiency.of about 96.11%,which is 14%higher than that of the pristine *** results confirm that the cy.lic stability.and the electrochemical performances of LiMnPO4/C are highly.improved by.y.doping.

Trabeculectomy.with Ex-PRESS implant versus ahmed glaucoma valve implantation-a comparative study

AIM：To compare the surgical outcomes of trabeculectomy.with Ex-PRESS implant and ahmed glaucoma valve（AGV） implantation. METHODS： Patients who underwent trabeculectomy.with Ex-PRESS implants or AGV implantation separately.were included in this retrospective chart *** outcome measures were surgical failure and *** was defined as intraocular pressure（IOP）〉21 mm Hg or 〈5 mm Hg on two consecutive visits after 3mo,reoperation for glaucoma,or loss of light *** that had not failed were considered as complete success if they.did not required supplemental medical ***： A total of 64 ey.s from 57 patients were included： 31 ey.s in the Ex-PRESS group and 33 ey.s in the AGV *** mean follow-up time was 2.6 ±1.1y.and 3.3±1.6y.*** in the AGV group had significantly.higher baseline mean IOP（P =0.005）,lower baseline mean visual acuity.VA）（P =0.02）,and higher proportion of patients with history.of previous trabeculectomy.P 〈0.0001）.Crude failure rates were 16.1%,n =5/31 in the Ex-PRESS group and 24.2%,n =8/33 in the AGV *** cumulative proportion of failure was similar between the groups,P =*** proportion of ey.s that experienced postoperative complications was32.3% in the Ex-PRESS group and 60.1% in the AGV group（P =0.0229）.CONCLUSION： Trabeculectomy.with Ex-PRESS implant and AGV implantation had comparable failure *** AGV group had more post-operative complications,but also included more complex cases with higher baselinemean IOP,worse baseline mean VA,and more previous glaucoma ***,the results are limited to the cohort included in this study.
