Effect of Humic Acid, Mycorrhiza Inoculation, and Biochar on Yield and Water Use Efficiency of Flax under Newly Reclaimed Sandy Soil

This study was carred out to investigate the efficiency of up-flow anaerobic staged reactor (UASR) for hydrogen production from starch wastewater industry. The reactor was continously operated at pH value of 6.86 ±0.5, temperature of 32 °C and organic loading rate (OLR) of 4.6 gCOD/l.d. Results revealed that, the reactor achieved an average hydrogen production of 6.0 lH2/d, corresponding to 0.35 mol H2/mol glucose. Furthermore, the drop of influent pH values from 6.86 ±0.5 to 5.65 ±0.76 during the UASR was associated by increase in VFAs from 46 ±27 to 160 ±58 mg/l respectively. The effluent quality of UASR is not complying for discharge into sewaerage network. Therfore, post-treatment is needed. Down flow hanging sponge (DHS) system for treatment of UASR effluent was operated at an HRT of 1.5 h and OLR of 10 gCOD/l.d. The reactor in combination with UASR as a pretreatment achieved an overall removal efficiency of 83%. Moreover, pH value was adapted in DHS from 5.65 ±0.76 to a value of 6.54 ±0.48. Also, the results obtained for the UASR profile showed that 50 % of TVFAs and 87% of MLSS were accumulated at the reactor bottom at a level of 10%.

In order to examine the application of different soil and foliar organic fertilizers as well as biofertilizing flax under sandy soil conditions, two field experiments were carried out at the Research and Production Station of the National Research Centre (NRC), Al Nubaria district, el-Behaira Governorate, Egypt during 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 winter seasons. The trials aimed to study the effect of humic acid (HA) as low cost natural fertilizer, inoculation with mycorrhiza, and biocharcoal on on yield, quality and water use efficiency of flax variety (Amon) under newly reclaimed sandy soil. The treatments consisted of HA (25 kg/feddan), inoculation with mycorrhiza (1 kg/ feddan), and biochar (4 tons/feddan) and all the combinations among the treatments. Results showed that the treatment combination of (humic acid + mycorrhiza + biochar) was significantly superior compared to all the other treatments in number of capsules/plant, biological yield/plant (g), seed yield/plant (g), seed yield (kg/feddan), straw yield (tons/feddan), oil percent (%), and oil yield (kg/feddan). However, it gave the highest fruiting zone length (cm) but not significantly different from (mycorrhiza + biochar) and (humic acid + biochar), also it gave the highest seed index (g) but not significantly different from humic acid and (humic acid + mycorrhiza). The treatment combination of (humic acid + biochar) gave the highest plant height (cm), technical stem length (cm), and number of branches/plant.

A 32-year-old female presented with 5-year history of iron deficiency anemia, marked pallor and edema of both lower limbs. Laboratory investigations including complete blood count, blood film, iron studies, lipid profile, ascitic fluid analysis, test of stool for occult blood and alpha 1 anti-trypsin. Upper, lower gastrointestinal(GIT) endoscopies, and enteroscopy were performed. Imaging techniques as abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography were done. Echocardiography, lymph node biopsy and bone marrow examination were normal. The case was diagnosed as Waldmann's disease with protein losing enteropathy and recurrent GIT bleeding. Management started with low fat diet with medium chain triglyceride, octreotide 200 μg twice a day, tranexamic acid and blood transfusion. Then, exploratory laparotomy with pathological examination of resected segment was done when recurrent GIT bleeding occurred and to excluded malignant transformation.

Attitudes of Healthcare Professionals towards Mental Illness: A Survey Study in Ras Al Khaimah

Background: Negative and stigmatizing attitudes and behaviours towards people with mental health problems have the potential to lead to a lack of access to care, under-treatment, social marginalization, and can undermine the relationship between the patient and provider. The study aimed to measure attitude of healthcare professionals towards mental illness. Methods: Across sectional descriptive study was conducted over one month from April to May 2019 at Ras Al khaimah medical and health Science University and affiliated health care facilities. Mental Illness Clinicians’ Attitudes Scale version 4 Questionnaire was used to collect data from participants after obtaining their informed consent with assured confidentiality. Results: The study included 113 health care professionals. The mean score of attitude of health care professionals towards mental illness was 57.8 ± 10.8 out of 96. Negative attitudes were reported about the dangerousness, respect and suspicion over recovery of people with mental health problems, interactions with them in clinical practice, and fear of disclosure to colleagues or friends about mental health problems and confidence in capabilities of assessing mental health problems in primary care. The significant positive attitude was found among participants who were university faculty than those who worked in hospitals and Primary care centres (P = 0.04). Health care professionals who were university faculty and have reported more than 10 years of experience as health professionals reported significantly higher mean scores (P elated to overall attitudinal responses towards mental illness. Conclusion: Educational programs might be useful to raise awareness towards the stigmatizing attitudes towards mental health and mental illnesses.

Background:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of limited-resource hospitals in managing mild and moderate hospitalized cases of COVID-19 with comorbidities and in preventing their progression to severe ***:Data were obtained from 88 moderate COVID-19 patients with comorbidities who were admitted to limitedresource *** data were classified into several parts:comorbidities,chronic medication before hospital admission,symptoms of COVID-19 before and during hospitalization,clinical features,laboratory findings on hospital admission,complications during hospitalization,as well as worst laboratory values during hospitalization,hospital stay,and *** clinical features,laboratory results,type of oxygen therapy used,and the final treatment outcome were all evaluated to assess for any potential ***:All patients were alive upon *** admission,the majority of patients(60.2%)received COVID-19 treatment,and the average hospital stay was 12 *** most common symptoms were fever(88.7%),cough(95.5%),shortness of breath(90.9%),myalgia(84.1%),confusion(63.6%),headache(62.5%),sore throat(88.7%),rhinorrhea(17%),chest pain(58%),diarrhea(19.3%),nausea and vomiting(38.6%),anosmia(62.5%),as well as dysgeusia(64.8%).Based on chest radiograph or computed tomography(CT)scan,9.1%of the patients had unilateral pneumonia,90.9% had bilateral pneumonia,and 96.6% had multiple mottling and ground-glass *** was found associated with a significant increase in headache(p=0.005),rhinorrhea(p=0.013),chest pain(p=0.007),and the need for positive airway pressure(p=0.008).Between pre-and post-hospital admissions,there was a significant increase in lactate dehydrogenase and ferritin but a decrease in platelet,D-dimer,hemoglobin,lymphocytes,neutrophils,and total leucocyte count(pel(p=0.05).Conclusion:Limited-resource hospitals in Egypt w

Numerical Solution of Parabolic in Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in One and Two Space Variable

In this paper, we shall be concerned with the numerical solution of parabolic equations in one space variable and the time variable t. We expand Taylor series to derive a higher-order approximation for Ut. We begin with the simplest model problem, for heat conduction in a uniform medium. For this model problem, an explicit difference method is very straightforward in use, and the analysis of its error is easily accomplished by the use of a maximum principle. As we shall show, however, the numerical solution becomes unstable unless the time step is severely restricted, so we shall go on to consider other, more elaborate, numerical methods which can avoid such a restriction. The additional complication in the numerical calculation is more than offset by the smaller number of time steps needed. We then extend the methods to problems with more general boundary conditions, then to more general linear parabolic equations. Finally, we shall discuss the more difficult problem of the solution of nonlinear equations.

Background: Hypospadias is a congenital malformation resulting from hypoplasia of the tissues forming the ventral face of the penis. It is associated to variable degrees with an ectopic urethral meatus, a penis curvature and a sapper’s apron foreskin [1]. The incidence of this malformation varies from country to country. It is estimated at 1/300 male births in France and 0.26/ 1000 in Mexico [1]. In Senegal, the prevalence of this malformation is unknown. Hypospadias surgery has improved significantly in recent years due to a better understanding of the anatomy on the one hand and the improvement of the instruments used during surgery on the other (suture material, surgical magnification, urethral catheter of suitable size). In sub-Saharan Africa and particularly in Senegal, hypospadias surgery remains a challenge due to the unavailability of adequate equipment (lack of microsurgical instruments and surgical loupes). Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of the treatment of hypospadias by the different surgical techniques used in our center as well as their sexual function in adulthood. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study, including all patients operated for hypospadias between January 2009 and December 2017 in Urology-Andrology department of Aristide Le Dantec hospital. The studied parameters were: frequency, age, clinical and therapeutic aspects, and their sexual function in adulthood after treatment. The outcomes of the treatment were judged good or poor depending of the quality of penile straightening, the aesthetic appearance of the penis, the position of the urethral neo-meatus, the permeability of the urethra and the existence or not of fistula. The sexual function was assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function 15 (IIEF) score. Results: Fifty-five patients were included. The median age was 6 years (P25 = 2.8 and P75 = 13 year

Geophysical Evaluation for Evidence of Recharging the Pleistocene Aquifer at el-Nubariya Area, West Nile Delta, Egypt

With ever increasing demands on water resources, Egypt is facing increasing water needs, demanded by a rapidly growing population, by higher standards of living and by an agricultural policys. West Nile Delta represents a new agricultural area where the reclaimed lands are irrigated with groundwater in addition to surface water. The evaluation of groundwater aquifers in West Nile Delta area requires information about the extension, depth and distribution and source of recharging these aquifers. In this work, an integrated study using geoelectric, geomagnetic, hydrogeologic and hydrochemistry investigations has been applied to evaluate groundwater aquifers and to delineate subsurface structures predominant in the basement rocks at el-Nubariya area, West Nile Delta, Egypt. Thirty-five Vertical electrical Soundings (VES) have been applied to identify the subsurface geoelctric layers predominant in the study area. As well as a detailed land magnetic survey has been carried out along the study area using two automatic proton precession magnetometers with an accuracy of 1 nT. These surveys allowed us to establish the subsurface structures and their relation with the detected aquifers. The geoelectric results are illustrated along seven geoelectric profiles and correlated with the lithologic and hydrogeologic data of drilled wells. The third geoelectric layer represents the water saturated zone (aquifer) with thickness varies from 14 m to 58 m, increasing to east and southeast directions. The hydrchemisty anlysis shows that the salinity of the water aquifer ranges from 600 ppm in the southeast to 3900 ppm in the south. The major dominant dissolved salt is Nacl. In the east and southeast, the water type becomes more NaSO4 which refers to dissolution of gypsum in addition to fertilizers. The magnetic data have been analyzed using horizontal gradient and 3D magnetic modeling along the locations of geolectric profiles. The results indicate that the fault structures are trendin
