Introducing a Novel Approach for Oil-Oil Correlation based on Asphaltene Structure: X-ray Diffraction

Asphaltenes have always been an attractive subject for ***,the application of this fraction of the geochemical field has only been studied in a limited *** other words,despite many studies on asphaltene structure,the application of asphaltene structures in organic geochemistry has not so far been ***-oil correlation is a wellknown concept in geochemical studies and plays a vital role in basin modeling and the reconstruction of the burial history of basin sediments,as well as accurate characterization of the relevant petroleum *** study aims to propose the Xray diffraction(XRD)technique as a novel method for oil-oil correlation and investigate its reliability and accuracy for different crude *** this end,13 crude oil samples from the Iranian sector of the Persian Gulf region,which had previously been correlated by traditional geochemical tools such as biomarker ratios and isotope values,in four distinct genetic groups,were selected and their asphaltene fractions analyzed by two prevalent methods of XRD and Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).For oil-oil correlation assessment,various cross-plots,as well as principal component analysis(PCA),were conducted,based on the structural parameters of the studied *** results indicate that asphaltene structural parameters can also be used for oil-oil correlation purposes,their results being completely in accord with the previous *** average values of distance between saturated portions(d_(r))and the distance between two aromatic layers(d_(m))of asphaltene molecules belonging to the studied oil samples are 4.69Aand 3.54A,***,the average diameter of the aromatic sheets(L_(a)),the height of the clusters(L_(c)),the number of carbons per aromatic unit(C_(au)),the number of aromatic rings per layer(R_(a)),the number of sheets in the cluster(M_(e))and aromaticity(f_(a))values of these asphaltene samples are 10.09A,34.04A,17.42A,3.78A,10.6

Accurate gas viscosity determination is an important issue in the oil and gas *** approaches for gas viscosity measurement are timeconsuming,expensive and hardly possible at high pressures and high temperatures(HPHT).In this study,a number of correlations were developed to estimate gas viscosity by the use of group method of data handling(GMDH)type neural network and gene expression programming(GEP)techniques using a large data set containing more than 3000 experimental data points for methane,nitrogen,and hydrocarbon gas *** is worth mentioning that unlike many of viscosity correlations,the proposed ones in this study could compute gas viscosity at pressures ranging between 34 and 172 MPa and temperatures between 310 and 1300 ***,a comparison was performed between the results of these established models and the results of ten wellknown models reported in the *** absolute relative errors of GMDH models were obtained 4.23%,0.64%,and 0.61%for hydrocarbon gas mixtures,methane,and nitrogen,*** addition,graphical analyses indicate that the GMDH can predict gas viscosity with higher accuracy than GEP at HPHT ***,using leverage technique,valid,suspected and outlier data points were ***,trends of gas viscosity models at different conditions were evaluated.

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage(SAGD)as a successful enhanced oil recovery(EOR)process has been applied to extract heavy and extra heavy *** amount of global heavy oil resources exists in carbonate reservoirs which are mostly naturally fractured *** clastic reservoirs,few studies were carried out to determine the performance of SAGD in carbonate *** though SAGD is a highly promising technique,several uncertainties and unanswered questions still exist and they should be clarified for expansion of SAGD methods to world wide applications especially in naturally fractured *** this communication,the effects of some operational and reservoir parameters on SAGD processes were investigated in a naturally fractured reservoir with oil wet rock using CMG-STARS thermal *** purpose of this study was to investigate the role of fracture properties including fracture orientation,fracture spacing and fracture permeability on the SAGD performance in naturally fractured ***,one operational parameter was also studied;one new well configuration,staggered well pair was *** indicated that fracture orientation influences steam expansion and oil production from the horizontal well *** was also found that horizontal fractures have unfavorable effects on oil production,while vertical fractures increase the production rate for the horizontal ***,an increase in fracture spacing results in more oil production,because in higher fracture spacing model,steam will have more time to diffuse into matrices and heat up the entire ***,an increase in fracture permeability results in process enhancement and ultimate recovery ***,diagonal change in the location of injection wells(staggered model)increases the recovery efficiency in long-term production plan.

Clinical and molecular features of human cystic echinococcosis in Tehran,Iran,2011-2019

Objective:To evaluate the clinical and molecular features of human cystic echinococcosis in Tehran,***:In this cross-sectional study,all human cystic echinococcosis patients admitted to Tehran’s hospitals from 2011 to 2019 were enrolled,and demographic characteristics,clinical findings,and laboratory data were ***,paraffin-embedded and fresh tissue samples of 175 cystic echinococcosis patients were evaluated for molecular *** samples’isolated DNA was used to amplify cytochrome c oxidaseⅠand NADH dehydrogenase subunitⅠ***,the morphological features of fresh samples were ***:In total,175 patients with a mean age of 45(9-98)years were admitted to Tehran’s hospitals diagnosed with cystic ***,the highest(26.9%)and the lowest(2.9%)prevalence of cystic echinococcosis cases were in the 16-30 and 1-15 years range,***/female ratio was 0.96(49.1%vs.50.9%).The liver was affected in 92 patients(52.6%),and two or more organs were infected in 7 patients(4.0%).The cysts’diameter varied from 1 to 25 cm,and 96.0%of the patients had a single hydatid *** patients underwent radical surgery and the PAIR technique was applied for all *** significant difference was observed between the protoscolex hooks of pulmonary and hepatic cysts.G1-G3 had the highest percentage(99.4%)over other identified G6 genotypes(0.6%).Conclusions:The sheep-dog cycle plays an important role in transmitting the human cystic echinococcosis infection in Tehran.

Observations on the Spermatogenic Cycle of the Grass Snake,Natrix natrix (Serpentes:Colubridae) in Northern Iran

The Grass Snake, Natrix natrix, is one of the non-venomous oviparous snakes of the family Colubridae, found in Mazandaran, a northern province of Iran. In order to study the spermatogenic cycle of this species in the area, sampling was done from April to November, and twenty-six male snakes were collected by hand during daylight hours. Testes were extracted from the specimens, and were fixed and prepared for histological examination. The results indicated that the spermatogenesis started in early June, November. The mean body length of the specimens was reached its height in August and September, and ended in measured 636.21 mm, and the mean volume of testes was 524.54 rnm3 and 569.06 mm3 for the right and left ones, respectively, and the mean weight of the testes was 0.051 g Spermatogenesis in this species is aestival and sperms are stored for use in the year following production.

Influences of anionic and cationic dopants on the morphology and optical properties of PbS nanostructures

Selenium and zinc are used as anionic and cationic dopant elements to dope PbS nanostructures. The undoped and doped PbS nanostructures are grown using a thermal evaporation method. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） results show similar morphologies for the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. X-ray diffraction （XRD） patterns of three sets of the nanostructures indicate that these nanostructures each have a PbS structure with a cubic phase. Evidence of dopant incorporation is demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. Raman spectra of the synthesized samples con- firm the XRD results and indicate five Raman active modes, which relate to the PbS cubic phase for all the nanostructures. Room temperature photoluminescence （PL） and UV-Vis spectrometers are used to study optical properties of the undoped and doped PbS nanostructures. Optical characterization shows that emission and absorption peaks are in the infrared （IR） region of the electromagnetic spectrum for all PbS nanostructures. In addition, the optical studies of the doped PbS nanos- tructures reveal that the band gap of the Se-doped PbS is smaller, and the band gap of the Zn-doped PbS is bigger than the band gap of the undoped PbS nanostructures.

In the present study,the Lower-Middle Pliocene Cheleken Formation in the south of Ghaemshahr city was studied to determine the provenance of the comprising sediments,paleoclimatic conditions,and tectonic setting of the *** and geochemical analyses of major and minor elements of the samples were used for this *** Formation is composed of three major facies including conglomerate,fine sandstone,and *** source formations which were recognized to be supplying sediments to the Cheleken Formation depositional basin include Lalun,Ziarat,Tizkuh,Dalichai,and Cretaceous *** to the discrimination diagrams and other ratios for minor elements of the studied samples,a complex of felsic to intermediate igneous rocks in the source region was *** depositional environment of the rocks experienced humid and semi-arid climatic conditions during *** to the CIW index,the samples underwent a high level of weathering(97%)in the source area or during *** a tectonic point of view,the Cheleken Formation was deposited in an Active Continental Margin setting.

Osteoid Osteoma of Proximal Phalanx of the Index Finger of the Right Hand

Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone forming tumor of the growing skeleton that is most often seen in young men. It represents by pain and radiologic appearance of anidus surrounded by osteosclerosisthat occurs mostly in long bones of the lower extremity. Occurrence of this tumor in the hand is an uncommon condition. We present a 23-year-old man with an osteoid osteoma in the proximal phalanx of the right index finger. The radiological examination showed a lytic lesion with irregular border with a central sclerotic nidus and also sclerotic changes around the lytic lesion and bone expansion in the proximal phalanx of the right index finger. He was suffering from a history of pain and swelling of his finger since 8 months. The pain disappeared after surgical excision of nidus. The patient was pain-free and there was no evidence of recurrence at 15 months follow up.

An Integrated Appraisal of Burgan Reservoir in Soroosh Oil Field, Using Petrographic and Petrophysical Approaches

The Burgan Formation in northwest of the Persian Gulf is applied to lower part of Albian age Kazhdumi Formation, where is dominated by coarse to medium terrigenous facies. It is the most susceptible siliciclastic unit in the area to hydrocarbon reservoir. This reservoir is studied in a well of Soroosh oil field with best available data to determine its facies characteristics, sequence stratigraphy and reservoir quality. Based on the petrographic results and log data, 7 facies are determined in the formation, which are mainly composed of sandstone and shale. These facies are classified into three facies associations (FA) based on their sedimentological properties and environmental conditions. The first FA consists of sandstone, siltstone and shale, mostly developed in the lower part of formation, and is related to a fluvial environment. The second FA consists of fluvial sandstones and sandwich by marine shales and is related to fluvial-dominated shallow marine setting (estuary to delta). The third FA consists of limestones of chemical and biochemical origin and is related to a marine condition. According to their reservoir quality, these facies associations show a decreasing trend in porosity and permeability values from FA1 to FA3. The first FA is more abundant in the lower part of the Burgan Formation where causes a good reservoir quality trait. FA2, presenting a medium reservoir quality, is more frequent in the middle parts of studied formation and FA3 is found almost in the upper parts. Based on the results from this study, three 3rd order sequences have been identified. Sequences 1 and 3 are partial but the sequence 2 is the main and most complete one of the formation in the studied area. The paleosol horizons are used for relative sea level change analysis of the formation in sequence stratigraphic studies.

Inspecting the Reservoir Characteristics of the Burgan Formation of Soroosh Oil Field Applying Rock Typing Methods in the Context of Geological Studies

The Albian age Burgan Formation is one of the most important siliciclastic reservoirs in the Arabian Plate. Northwest of Persian Gulf is the main area in Iran invaded by these siliciclastic sediments. This study uses a new and comprehensive procedure to identify the reservoir characteristics of the Burgan Formation in Soroush oil field (NW Persian Gulf). Results from core and petrographic studies led identification of 7 microfacies (MF1 to MF7) that are grouped into 3 main facies association (FA1, to FA3). Results from reservoir characterization indicate a dramatic decrease in reservoir quality from bottom to top (FA1 toward FA3). Using the Flow Zone Indicator (FZI) method, 5 Hydraluic flow units (HFUs) were recognized in the formation. The HFUs are in a notable accordance with facies associations. The HFUs 1 and 2 correlate with theFA1, the HFUs 3 and 4 with the FA2 and the HFU5 cover intervals defined by FA3. Cluster analysis of wireline logs resulted in determination of 5 electrofacies (EF1 to EF5) which are in agreement with the ascertained HFUs. Inspecting the vertical distribution of FAs, HFUs and EFs, three distinct zones are determined. The lower zone is characterized by good reservoir quality, abundance of FA1, HFUs1 and 2 and also EFs 1 and 2 is observed there. The middle zone with a moderate reservoir quality and upper zone presents the poorest quality. In the middle zone FA2, HFUs3 and 4 and also EFs 3 and 4 are more abundant while in the upper one interval are clearly correlated with FA3, HFU5 and also EF5.
