Background:During an experiment,a ski racer equipped with various measurement devices suffered an anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)rupture in his right *** aim of this study was to describe the underlying injury mechanism from a functional ***:Eight giant slalom turns(i.e.,4 left turns),followed by 1 left turn at which the ACL injury occurred,were recorded by 2 video cameras,electromyography of 4 relevant muscle groups,inertial measurement units to measure knee and hip angles,and pressure insoles to determine ground reaction ***:Due to a loss of balance,the ski racer began to slide sideways at the apex of a left *** sliding,his right(outside)leg was actively abducted upward without touching the *** ski racer then attempted to stand up again by dropping his leg back towards the snow *** end of this dropping was accompanied by a decrease in electromyographic activity in the knee stabilizing *** the inside edge of the outer ski caught the snow surface,a rapidly increasing peak force,knee flexion,and an aggressive sudden activation of the vastus medialis muscle were observed,while biceps femoris and rectus femoris further decreased their activation *** likely resulted in excessive anterior translation of the tibia relative to the femur,causing damage to the ***:Our example emphasizes that ski racers should not get up until they stop ***:“When you’re down,stay down.”

AIM: To examine the efficacy of Saenghyuldan and its components, Ginseng Radix, Paeoniae Radix Alba, and Hominis Placenta extracts (SHD, GR, PRA, and HP, respectively) on the hemopoiesis in a myelosuppression model system. METHODS: Susceptibility to cyclophosphamide (CP) and S 180 carcinoma was determined in SHD, GR,PRA, and HP-treated mice. Analysis of peripheral blood and bone marrow cells was demonstrated by changes in cell types and histopathologic examination. The expression of cytokine mRNAs involved in hemopoiesis was examined by RT-PCR. RESULTS: SHD and its seperated components (GR, HP, and PRA, respectively) significantly increased the survival in CP-and S 180-treated mice. The hematology data demonstrated that all the agents augmented monocyte and leucocyte counts in the peripheral blood and increased bone marrow density and the ratio of leukocyte to erythrocyte in the bone marrow. These findings were positively correlated with the up-regulation of cytokine mRNA expression such as granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), erythropoietin (EPO), thrombopoietin (TPO), stem cell factor (SCF), and c-Kit. CONCLUSION: SHD is an effective remedy for the bone marrow failure and myelosuppression occurring during chemotherapy.

Among the records of aftershock observation of the 1991 Datong, China ML=5.8 earthquake, very similar waveforms from clusters of small earthquakes were found. Cross-correlation of the waveforms of each pair in the cluster confirmed the similarities. Re-sample technology is used to improve the sampling rate, which is helpful to distinguish the small variation of shear wave splitting. The variation of shear wave splitting could be found directly from seismograms of each pair in a cluster.

Background:To evaluate the effect of three different combinations of tip designs and infusion systems in torsional phacoemulsification(INFINITI and CENTURION)in patients with *** to the manufacturer,two unique improvements in the Centurion are:active fluid dynamic management system and use of an intrepid balanced *** study specifically aimed to evaluate the beneficial effects,if any,of change in tip design and infusion system individually and in combination on both per-operative parameters as well as endothelial health over 6 ***:One hundred and twenty six consenting patients of grade 4.0-6.9 senile cataract were randomized into three groups for phacoemulsification:Group A(n=42):Gravity fed infusion system and 45° Kelman miniflared ABS phaco tip;Group B(n=42):intraocular pressure(IOP)based infusion system and 45° Kelman miniflared ABS phaco tip;Group C(n=42):IOP based infusion system and 45° Intrepid balanced phaco *** cumulative dissipated energy(CDE),estimated fluid usage(EFU)and total aspiration time(TAT)were compared *** endothelial parameters were followed up postoperatively for six ***:The three arms were matched for age(p=0.525),gender(p=0.96)and grade of cataract(p=0.177).Group C was associated with significant reductions in CDE(p=0.001),EFU(p<0.0005)as well as TAT(p=0.001)in comparison to the other *** three groups had comparable baseline endothelial cell density(p=0.876)and central corneal thickness(p=0.561).On post-operative evaluation,although all groups were comparable till 3 months,by 6 months,the percentage losses in endothelial cell density were significantly lower in group C as compared to the other ***:Use of an IOP based phacoemulsification system in association with use of the Intrepid balanced tip reduces the CDE,EFU and TAT in comparison to a gravity fed system with a mini flared tip or IOP based system with a mini flared tip while also providing better endothelia
