The chemical forms of selenium were determined in maize grown near Yutangba Village and in rice grown near Haubei village, exi Prefecture, Enshi county of Hubei Province, China. The maize sample contained 18 ppm and the rice samples an average of 3.6 ppm selenium. After they were ground to obtain a fine flour, this was acid hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid in an inert atmosphere and the hydrolyzates chromatographed on columns of Dionex DC6A resin. The results indicate that the majority of the selenium is present as selenomethionine in both rice and corn.

Rainfall forecasts for the summer monsoon season in the Yangtze River basin(YRB) allow decision-makers to plan for possible flooding, which can affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. A trial climate service was developed in 2016, producing a prototype seasonal forecast product for use by stakeholders in the region, based on rainfall forecasts directly from a dynamical model. Here, we describe an improved service based on a simple statistical downscaling approach. Through using dynamical forecast of an East Asian summer monsoon(EASm) index, seasonal mean rainfall for the upper and middle/lower reaches of YRB can be forecast separately by use of the statistical downscaling, with significant skills for lead times of up to at least three months. The skill in different sub-basin regions of YRB varies with the target season. The rainfall forecast skill in the middle/lower reaches of YRB is significant in may–June–July(mJJ), and the forecast skill for rainfall in the upper reaches of YRB is significant in June–July–August(JJA). The mean rainfall for the basin as a whole can be skillfully forecast in both mJJ and JJA. The forecasts issued in 2019 gave good guidance for the enhanced rainfall in the mJJ period and the near-average conditions in JJA. Initial feedback from users in the basin suggests that the improved forecasts better meet their needs and will enable more robust decision-making.

Purpose： The present study investigated the effects of 16 weeks of small-volume, small-sided soccer training soccer group （SG, n = 13） and oscillating whole-body vibration training vibration group （VG, n = 17） on body composition, aerobic fitness, and muscle PCr kinetics in healthy inactive premenopausal women in comparison with an inactive control group （CO, n = 14）. methods： Training for SG and VG consisted of twice-weekly 15-min sessions with average heart rates （HRs） of ～ 155 and 90 bpm respectively. Pre- and post-measurements of body composition （DXA）, phosphocreatine （PCr） on- and off-kinetics, and HR measurements during stand- ardised submaximal exercise were performed. Results： After 16 weeks of training in SG, fat percentage was lowered （p = 0.03） by 1.7%±2.4% from 37.5% ± 6.9% to 35.8% ± 6.2% and the PCr decrease in the quadriceps during knee-extension ramp exercise was attenuated （4% ± 8%, p = 0.04）, with no changes in VG or CO （time- group effect： p=0.03 and p = 0.03）. Submaximal exercise HR was also reduced in SG after 16 weeks of training （6%± 5% of HRmax, p = 0.01）. Conclusion： Short duration soccer training for 16 weeks appears to be sufficient to induce favourable changes in body composition and indicators of aerobic fitness and muscle oxidative capacity in untrained premenopausal women.

Left ventricular(LV) diastolic dysfunction often occurs in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(Dm) independent of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia, and regional wall motion anomalies. Limited information exi sts on LV myocardial tissue strain in this patient group. We measured 3-dimensi onal(3-D) parameters of LV systolic and diastolic functions in 28 patients who had type 2 Dm(age 33 to 70 years), standard echocardiographic evidence of LV dia stolic dysfunction, and normal LV ejection fraction, and 31 normal control subje cts(age 19 to 74 years) who had no evidence of cardiac disease, with multislice cine anatomic and tagged magnetic resonance imaging. Three-dimensional analysis of the resulting images showed that peak systolic mitral valve plane displaceme nt was 12%smaller(p=0.040) and peak diastolic mitral valve plane velocity was 2 1%lower(p=0.008) in patients who had Dm than in normal controls. Peak systolic circumferential and longitudinal strains and principal 3-D shortening strain we re 14%, 22%, and 10%smaller, respectively, in the Dm group (pmferential and longitudinal strains and principal 3-D shortening strain were 35%, 32%, and 33%lower, respective ly, in the Dm group(pmferential, longi tudinal and 3-D principal strains, and diastolic strain rates are impaired in p atients who have type 2 Dm, LV diastolic dysfunction, and normal LV ejection fra ction.
