BACKGROUnD The association between the intestinal microbiota and psychiatric disorders is becoming increasingly *** gut microbiota contributes to colorectal carcinogenesis(CRC),as demonstrated with colibactin-producing Escherichia coli(CoPEC).AIM To eva.uate the association between CoPEC preva.ence and anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors with both preclinical and clinical *** Patients followed after a CRC surgery and for whom the preva.ence of CoPEC has been investigated underwent a psychiatric *** were compared according to the CoPEC *** parallel C57BL6/J wild type mice and mice with a CRC susceptibility were chronically infected with a CoPEC *** behavior was assessed using the Eleva.ed Plus Maze test,the Forced Swimming Test and the Behavior recognition system PhenoTyper®.RESULTS In a limited cohort,all patients with CoPEC colonization presented with psychiatric disorders several years before cancer diagnosis,whereas only one patient(17%)without CoPEC *** result was confirmed in C57BL6/J wildtype mice and in a CRC susceptibility mouse model(adenomatous polyposis colimultiple intestinal neoplasia/+).Mice exhibited a significant increase in anxiety-and depressive-like behaviors after chronic infection with a CoPEC *** This finding provides the first evidence that CoPEC infection can induce microbiota-gut-brain axis disturbances in addition to its procarcinogenic properties.

Preva.ence of visual impairment and estimation of refractive errors among school children in Kakamega,Kenya

AIM:To investigate the preva.ence of visual impairment(VI)and provide an estimation of uncorrected refractive errors in school-aged children,conducted by optometry students as a community ***:The study was *** 3343 participants were included in the *** initial examination involved assessing the uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDva.and visual acuity(va.while using a+2.00 D *** inclusion criteria for a subsequent comprehensive cycloplegic eye examination,performed by an optometrist,were as follows:a UDva.0.6 decimal(0.20 logMAR)and/or a va.with+2.00 D≥0.8 decimal(0.96 logMAR).RESULTS:The sample had a mean age of 10.92±2.13y(range 4 to 17y),and 51.3%of the children were female(n=1715).The majority of the children(89.7%)fell within the age range of 8 to *** the ethnic groups,the highest representation was from the Luhya group(60.6%)followed by Luo(20.4%).Mean logMAR UDva.choosing the best eye for each student was 0.29±0.17(range 1.70 to 0.22).Out of the total,246 participants(7.4%)had a full eye *** estimated preva.ence of myopia(defined as spherical equiva.ent≤-0.5 D)was found to be 1.45%of the total *** around 0.18%of the total sample had hyperopia va.ue exceeding+1.75 *** astigmatism(cilnd in 0.21%(7/3343)of the *** VI preva.ence was 1.26%of the total *** our cases of VI,76.2%could be attributed to uncorrected refractive *** was detected in 0.66%(22/3343)of the screened *** was no statistically significant correlation observed between age or gender and refractive ***:The primary cause of VI is determined to be uncorrected refractive errors,with myopia being the most preva.ent refractive error *** findings underscore the significance of early identification and correction of refractive errors in school-aged children as a means to alleviate the impact of VI.

The addition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluidics has greatly adva.ced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes,including high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and rapid ***,the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and va.uum-based *** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions,we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of va.ying materials,including silver nanowires,graphene,and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS).To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts,the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration ***,we demonstrated a novel solution-based,direct-write,single-step,cleanroom-free additive manufacturing technique to rapidly develop SAW microfluidic devices that shows viability for applications in the fields of biology,chemistry,engineering,and medicine.

Surfactant food emulsifiers are among the most extensively used food *** all authorized food additives,emulsifiers have been eva.uated by risk assessors,who consider them as ***,there are growing concerns among scientists about their possible harmful effects on intestinal barriers and *** is also suggested that emulsifier consumption might be one of the main causes of the rising incidence of a number of diseases,such as allergic diseases,celiac disease,type I diabetes and Crohn’s ***,it has recently been suggested that emulsifier consumption might contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome and can promote colitis-associated colorectal cancer *** paper provides an overview of the current scientific knowledge on possible effects of surfactant emulsifiers on intestinal barriers and also of regulatory risk assessment *** main objective is to reveal the reasons for the discrepancies between the opinions of risk assessors and the scientific *** would like to draw the attention of the academic world to the need of specific in vivo and/or clinical studies for each emulsifier in order to help risk assessors make adequate eva.uations and rule out with certainty that authorized food emulsifiers pose a safety concern to consumers’health.

Determination of Reference Eva.otranspiration Using Penman-Monteith Method in Case of Missing Wind Speed Data under Subhumid Climatic Condition in Hungary

The reference eva.otranspiration was calculated using Penman-Monteith method proposed. This method was eva.uated on data measured by lysimeter in Szarva. experimental station in Hungary. The results of the two methods were in good agreement. However, this method requires an amount of data which is not ava.lable at all sites of meteorological measurement. Therefore it was necessary to investigate which elements influencing eva.otranspiration are important and which elements are less important. With the help of investigation was indicated that radiation and va.or pressure deficit play important role in determination of reference eva.otranspiration. Taking into account this there was two possibilities to calculate eva.otranspiration. One of these is to use Penman-Monteith formula with constant wind speed as advised by Allen. Another one is to neglect wind speed data. Both methods were investigated and the method with constant wind speed was found better in a subhumid climatic condition of Hungary.

Phytochemical overview and medicinal importance of Coffea species from the past until now

Coffea(coffee) species are grown in almost all countries along the Equator. Many members of the genus have a large production history and an important role both in the global market and researches. Seeds(Coffeae semen) are successfully used in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries due to its caffeine and high polyphenol content. nowadays, the three best-known coffee species are Arabic(Coffea arabica L.), Robusta(Coffea robusta L. Linden), and Liberian coffees(Coffea liberica Hier.). Even though, many records are ava.lable on coffee in scientific literature, wild coffee species like Bengal coffee(Coffea benghalensis Roxb. Ex Schult.) could offer many new opportunities and challenges for phytochemical and medical studies. In this comprehensive summary, we focused on the ethnomedicinal, phytochemical, and medical significance of coffee species up to the present.

Comparative phytochemical analysis of Coffea benghalensis Roxb. Ex Schult, Coffea arabica L. and Coffea liberica Hiern

Objective: To make phytochemical studies of the leaf, pericarp and seed of Coffea benghalensis(C. Benghalensis) compared with those of the widely known Coffea arabica and Coffea liberica. Methods: The sample extracts were prepared by Soxhlet-extraction. Polyphenol content was analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS, the identification was carried out based on the retention time, UV and mass spectra of standards and literature data of the detected compounds. Results: Phenolic acids like caffeoylquinic acids, dicaffeoylquinic acids, feruloylquinic acids and coumaroylquinic acid, as well as mangiferin were detected as main constituents in all extracts. Procyanidin trimers were present exclusively in the leaves. In C. benghalensis, main constituents were 5-caffeoylquinic acid and 4-caffeoylquinic acid. Flava.-3-ols were described in all immature and mature pericarp and leaf extracts. Even though 4-feruloylquinic acid was described in both immature and mature seed, dicaffeoylquinic acids were identified only in the mature seed extracts. Mangiferin was present in the leaf, mature pericarp and seed. Conclusions: These analyses provide new chemotaxonomical data for the selected coffees, especially for C. benghalensis. Due to its high polyphenol content, our results indicate its significance of providing new data as a possible source for industry.

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyse the behaviour of heart rate va.iability(HRV)during constant-load,high-intensity exercise using a time frequency analysis(Wavelet Transform).Eleven elite cyclists took part in the study(age:18.6±3.0 years;VO_(2max):4.88±0.61 litres·min^(-1)).Initially,all subjects performed an incremental cycloergometer test to determine load power in a constant load-test(379.55±36.02 W;89.0%).HRV declined dramatically from the start of testing(pnsity within the LF band mirrored that of total energy,recording a significant decrease from the outset LF peaks fell rapidly thereafter,remaining stable until the end of the ***-VHF fell sharply in the first 20 to 30 *** relative weighting(%) of HF-VHF was inverted with the onset of fatigue,[1.6%at the start,7.1(pnd of the first phase,and 43.1%(pnd of the test].HF-VHF_(peak) displayed three phases:a moderate initial increase,followed by a slight fall,thereafter increasing to the end of the *** LF/HF-VHF ratio increased at the start,later falling progressively until the end of the first phase and remaining around minimal va.ues until the end of the test.

Simplified Penman-Monteith Equation Determined by Temperature-Based Global Radiation Data and Its Multilocal va.idation under Subhumid Climatic Conditions in Hungary

The extent to which specific climatic factors influence eva.otranspiration under subhumid conditions in Hungary was investigated. The reference eva.otranspiration, calculated with the internationally accepted Penman-Monteith equation proposed by FAO, was considered. The results show that the influence of radiation, which provides energy for eva.oration, is the strongest factor and that the influence of global radiation alone is very strong. Taking into account that radiation was measured under rather limited conditions in space and time, global radiation was calculated using the Hargreaves method based on temperature. Accordingly, we have defined a formula based on temperature-based global radiation and verified the data obtained with the Penman-Monteith formula calculated for 14 meteorological stations. The verification gave good results, therefore the method can be used for practical purposes in the subhumid conditions of Hungary based on the data of the nearest meteorological station.

Antioxidant potential,tannin and polyphenol contents of seed and pericarp of three Coffea species

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant activity,total phenolic and total tannin content of the pericarp and the seed of Coffea benghalensis(***) and Coffea liberica compared to Coffea arabica(***).Methods:The antioxidant potential,total tannin and polyphenol contents of the immature and mature seed and pericarp of *** and Coffea liberica were quantified and compared to *** chemiluminescence(ECL).2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydruzyl(DPPH).oxygen radical absorbance capacity,Folin-Ciocaltcau method and total tannin content assays were ***:Trolox equiva.ent(TE/g plant material) va.ues obtained by ECL and DPPH methods showed loose correlation(r^2=0.587)while those measured by oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay were higher without correlation in each plant.A closer correlation was detected between the ECL method and the percentage antioxidant activity of the DPPH technique(r^2=0.610 7) in each species,however the immature pericarp of *** showed much higher DPPH scavenging potential than was seen in the ECL *** immature pericarp of *** expressed the highest tannin and polyphenol content,and a high polyphenol level was also detected in the immature seed of *** immature pericarp of Bengal and Liberian coffees showed the largest amount of phenolic ***:The obtained data highlight the potential role of *** as a new source of natural antioxidants and polyphenols compared to ***.
