Thermal performance of cooling strategies for asphalt pavement: A state-of-the-art review

Asphalt pavements absorb and store more heat than natural surfaces. Thus, high temperatures are emitted from conventional asphalt pavements, subsequently releasing heat into the atmosphere and contributing to the urban heat island(UHI) phenomenon. Several cool pavement strategies, including the provision of additives and materials, surface coating and layer design, have been introduced to reduce the impact of UHI. This article provides a detailed review of the thermal properties of these mitigation measures in the context of cool asphalt pavements. The literature can be divided into three segments. The first segment discusses the impact of pavements on UHI and heat transfer mechanisms in pavements. The second segment focuses on various thermo physical properties that play an important role in mitigation measures;these properties include albedo(a), emissivity(e),solar reflective index, thermal conductivity(k), specific heat capacity(Cp) and thermal diffusivity. The third segment discusses cool asphalt pavement strategies which specifically cover the ability of the pavement to absorb and reflect solar energy on the basis of the materials and treatments used. The literature reveals that cooling strategies that deal with the pavement surface are important due to its direct incident solar effect, which depends on surface colour, material, shape and roughness. By using high-albedo and high-emissivity surfaces, the pavement can store less heat and lower the surface temperature. These results can also be achieved by designing the materials and pavement layers with low thermal conductivity and high specific heat capacity to reduce thermal diffusivity and pavement temperature and thus combat the heat radiated by the asphalt pavement.

Effects of ultrasonic waves on carbon dioxide solubility in brine at different pressures and temperatures

The adverse impacts of CO2 emission on the global warming highlight the importance of carbon capture and storage technology and geological storage of CO2 under solubility trapping mechanisms. Enhancing the solubility of CO2 in formation water has always been the focus of research in the area of CO2 sequestration. Ultrasound techniques are one of the environmentally friendly methods that use high-intensity acoustic waves to improve gas solubility in liquids. Ultrasonic waves can alter the properties of different phases that lead to chemical reactions and provide a means to increase the solubility of CO2 in connate water. In this study, we investigated the effects of ultrasound on the solubility of CO2 in connate water under different conditions of pressure, temperature, and salinity. The results showed that the solubility of CO2 was improved with increasing pressure under ultrasonic ***, the solubility of CO2 was inversely proportional to the increase in brine salinity and temperature. Therefore,it was concluded that the solubility of CO2 might be enhanced in the presence of ultrasound.

Mount Semeru,an active volcano in East Java,Indonesia,erupted on December 4,2021,following extreme rainfall that caused an avalanche of hot pyroclastic flows and *** tropospheric conditions and dominant particle components in the atmosphere can be monitored using global Navigation Satellite System(gNSS)technology and remote sensing *** signal propagation delay in Precise Point Positioning(PPP)processing can be used to determine Zenith Tropospheric Delay(ZTD)and Precipitable Water Vapor(PWV)variables so that atmospheric conditions can be *** addition,by using remote sensing satellite data,it is possible to obtain rainfall data with high temporal resolution as well as the dominant particle and gas content values during *** the eruption period,the high value of PWV was dominated by the high intensity of precipitation during the rainy *** rainfall before the eruption caused activity inside the mountain to increase,which occurred in avalanche type *** from that,the atmosphere around Semeru was also dominated by SO_(2)content,which spreaded for tens of ***_(2)content began to be detected significantly by remote sensing sensors on December 7,*** this study,deformation and atmospheric monitoring were also carried out using low-cost gNSS at the Semeru Monitoring Station on September 9-15,*** results of the ZTD and ZWD values show the dominance of the wet component,which is directly proportional to rainfall activity in this period.

BACKgROUND One of the efforts to reduce hypertension rates in the community is through an educational campaign that refers to the NIH's National Heart,Lung,and Blood Institute curricula or abbreviated as ***,during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,one of the hardest hit areas is health promotion,and there is a significant obstacle regarding the most effective way to transfer knowledge,attitude and practice towards society without transmitting the *** To evaluate the impact of the virtual anti-hypertensive educational campaign towards knowledge,attitude,and the practice of hypertension management in the primary care setting during the COVID-19 *** An online action research with a randomized crossover-controlled trial using a pretest-posttest control group *** study was conducted in October 2020-April *** population in this study were patients with hypertension who were treated in the Mojo primary health care setting.A purposive sampling technique was done to receive 110 participants using an online questionnaire and invitation *** A total of 110 participants were included in the analysis,55 in the intervention group and 55 in the control *** the Virtual Anti-Hypertensive Educational Campaign implementation,the only parameter that showed significant improvement was knowledge and attitude(Pgnificant change in the practice parameters(P=0.131).CONCLUSION The Virtual Anti-Hypertensive Educational Campaign implementation in our study population seems to be effective to improve knowledge and attitude of participants,nevertheless,this program seems to be ineffective to improve the practice of hypertension management aspect in *** study with longer durations and more comprehensive programs need to be done to scrutinize the clinical impact of this program nationwide.

Identification of antigenic proteins from salivary glands of female Anopheles maculatus by proteomic analysis

Objective: To identify antigenic proteins from the salivary glands of female Anopheles maculatus using a proteomic approach to find the biomarker candidate for serological ***: The identification of antigenic proteins of Anopheles maculatus salivary gland used these techniques: one-dimensional gel electrophoresis(sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), western blot, and liquid chromatography–mass ***: The proteins that have molecular weight(MW) 43 and 34 k Da were the antigenic protein. Computational bioinformatic analysis by Mascot Server revealed seven novel hypothetical proteins(MW: 43 k Da) and two novel hypothetical proteins(MW:34 k Da). Further analysis(BLASTP, antigenicity, epitope mapping, and specificity analysis) showed that two novel proteins were identified as apolipoprotein D and cathepsin D in Anopheles ***: The identified proteins are potential to be developed as a biomarker of mosquito bite's exposure.

Introduction:Bacterial Vaginosis(BV)is the most common cause of vaginal ***,in some cases,side effects and resistance rates have been reported when anti-biotics are *** problem has prompted several investigations on the administration of probiotics as an adjunct therapy to treat this ***:This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis based on evidence to determine the efficacy and safety of probiotic and antibiotic ***:The meta-analysis was performed using PRISMA *** literature review was conducted in December 2020 using PubMed,Science Direct,Cochrane Library,and RevMan ***:The results showed a high and significant cure rate from the analysis of 1006 and 528 samples of probiotics and non-probiotics or control in 16 *** recurrence rate was statistically significant with probiotic ***,neither procedures nor therapy failure showed a significantly lower adverse event rate than the control ***:Probiotic shows better results compared to the control ***,both have the same occurrence of adverse event.

Laparoscopic myomectomy versus open myomectomy in uterine fibroid treatment: A meta-analysis

Objective:Uterine fibroids are the most commonly occurring benign solid tumors in women,and laparoscopic or open myomectomy constitutes the primary option for ***,both methods are under debate currently in terms of efficacy and *** this meta-analysis we assessed the efficacy and safety of the two ***:We conducted a comprehensive literature search of PubMed,ScienceDirect,and the Cochrane Library in December *** search terms included“open myomectomy”,“myomectomies”,“laparoscopic”,and“uterine fibroids”.We then selected the randomized control trials published from 1996 to 2019 and compared laparoscopic and open ***:We included 10 studies of 449 patients who underwent laparoscopic myomectomy and 449 patients who underwent open *** data revealed that laparoscopic myomectomy was associated with reduced blood loss(MD=-34.43;95%CI,-34.92 to-33.94;pglobin(MD=-1.04;95%CI,-1.14 to -0.93;pger operative time(MD=12.96;95%CI,9.94 to 15.97;pgnificant differences in pregnancy rate(OR=1.39;95%CI,0.72 to 2.68;p=0.33)or recurrence rate of postoperative uterine fibroids(OR=1.15;95%CI,0.60 to 2.18;p=0.67)between the two ***:Laparoscopic myomectomy displayed superior results compared to open myomectomy,although the former involved a longer operating time.

Carvedilol vs endoscopic variceal ligation for primary and secondary prevention of variceal bleeding: Systematic review and metaanalysis

Efficacy,effectiveness,and safety of combination laser and tranexamic acid treatment for melasma:A meta-analysis

Background: Melasma is an acquired pigmentation condition characterized by its refractory nature and a high risk of recurrence. Treatment of melasma is challenging owing to its unclear etiology, stubborn resistance to treatment, and frequent relapses. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the efficacy, effectiveness, and safety of monotherapy and combination therapy(combination of laser and tranexamic acid(TXA)) for the treatment of melasma using a network ***: The PRISMA guidelines were used in this meta-analysis, with a literature search conducted in reputable sources, such as Cochrane, Science Direct, Pub Med, and google ***: From the initial search, 1 504 relevant studies were identified. After careful analysis, three studies were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed no significant differences in the Melasma Area and Severity Index(MASI) score between monotherapy(control group) and a combination therapy of laser and TXA. The mean difference in MASI score was 1.87(95% confidence interval(CI),-0.78–4.52;P=0.17), indicating no significant difference between the two treatment approaches. Side effects were more common in the combination treatment group than in the control group. The odds ratio for experiencing side effects was 8.85(95% CI, 1.57–50.01;P=0.01).Conclusion: Both the monotherapy and combination therapy groups showed therapeutic improvement;however,the combination therapy group showed a higher incidence of side effects.

This paper presents the development and performance of micro-perforated panels(MPP)from natural fiber reinforced *** MPP is made of Polylactic Acid(PLA)reinforced with Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fiber(OPEFBF).The investigation was made by varying the fiber density,air gap,and perforation ratio to observe the effect on the Sound Absorption Coefficient(SAC)through the experiment in an impedance *** is found that the peak level of SAC is not affected,but the peak frequency shifts to lower frequency when the fiber density is *** phenomenon might be due to the presence of porosity in the inner wall of the *** or decreasing the air gap and perforation ratio shifts the peaks of acoustic absorption either way.
