Optimal resource allocation solutions for heterogeneous cognitive radio networks

Cognitive Radio Networks （CRN） are currently gaining immense recognition as the most-likely next-generation wireless communication paradigm, because of their enticing promise of mitigating the spectrum scarcity and/or underutilisation challenge. Indisputably, for this promise to ever materialise, CRN must of necessity devise appropriate mechanisms to judiciously allocate their rather scarce or limited resources （spectrum and others） among their numerous users. ＇Resource Allocation （RA） in CRN＇, which essentially describes mechanisms that can effectively and optimally carry out such allocation, so as to achieve the utmost for the network, has therefore recently become an important research focus. However, in most research works on RA in CRN, a highly significant factor that describes a more realistic and practical consideration of CRN has been ignored （or only partially explored）, i.e., the aspect of the heterogeneity of CRN. To address this important aspect, in this paper, RA models that incorporate the most essential concepts of heterogeneity, as applicable to CRN, are developed and the imports of such inclusion in the overall networking are investigated. Furthermore, to fully explore the relevance and implications of the various heterogeneous classifications to the RA formulations, weights are attached to the different classes and their effects on the network performance are studied. In solving the developed complex RA problems for heterogeneous CRN, a solution approach that examines and exploits the structure of the problem in achieving a less-complex reformulation, is extensively employed. This approach, as the results presented show, makes it possible to obtain optimal solutions to the rather difficult RA problems of heterogeneous CRN.

An application of artificial intelligence for investigating the effect of COVID-19 lockdown on three-dimensional temperature variation in equatorial Africa

We present interesting application of artificial intelligence for investigating effect of the COVID-19 lockdown on 3-dimensional temperature variation across Nigeria(2°-15°e,4°-14°N),in equatorial *** neural networks were trained to learn time-series temperature variation patterns using radio occultation measurements of atmospheric temperature from the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology,Ionosphere,and Climate(COSMIC).Data used for training,validation and testing of the neural networks covered period prior to the *** was also an investigation into the viability of solar activity indicator(represented by the sunspot number)as an input for the *** results indicated that including the sunspot number as an input for the training did not improve the network prediction *** trained network was then used to predict values for the lockdown *** the network was trained using pre-lockdown da.a.et,predictions from the network are regarded as expected temperatures,should there have been no *** comparing with the actual COSMIC measurements during the lockdown period,effects of the lockdown on atmospheric temperatures were *** overall,the mean altitudinal temperatures rose by about 1.1℃ above expected values during the *** altitudinal breakdown,at 1 km resolution,reveals that the values were typically below0.5℃ at most of the altitudes,but exceeded 1℃ at 28 and 29 km *** temperatures were also observed to drop below expected values at altitudes of 0-2 km,and 17-20 km.

Geostatistical evaluation of spatial variability of land subsidence rates in Lagos, Nigeria

Accurate land subsidence prediction is fundamental for effective ma.a.ement of land subsidence and other associated geohazards. Lagos, the most densely populated city in Nigeria, has been adversely affected by widespread land subsidence. Previous studies have largely been restricted to analyzing space geodetic technique data. Unfortunately, this technique imposes spatial limitations resulting in incomplete coverage of the study areas due to atmospheric effects, orbital satellite characteristics, or surface characteristics. The application of geostatistics to georeferenced data obtained from space-based measurements can reliably provide complete information on spatial variability. The objective of this study is to provide an overview of current subsidence rates and to assess the spatial variability of land subsidence in the study area by using geostatistics that integrate semivariogram and ordinary kriging. The study area was partitioned into eight subregions;for each subregion, the experimental variogram was determined from the observed data and fitted to the optimal models. Seven subregions were fitted to exponential models and one was fitted to the spherical model. The model semivariograms were used in the kriging analysis to estimate the spatial variability of subsidence rates. The results showed that the nugget-to-sill ratio lies between 44 and 70%, indicating that the spatial variation of subsidence rates at the scale under study is moderately distributed and the mechanism of deformation is similar. The nugget effect of the subsidence rate is between 0.25 and 0.75, indicating that subsidence rates are influenced by various contributions. The predicted spatial variability of subsidence rates by Ordinary Kriging presents reliable values of R-squared(0.32 e0.42) and RMSe(0.21 e0.30). Assessment of the performance of the TOPGNSS and ANN-MB antennas for ionospheric measurements using low-cost u-blox GNSS receivers

Low-cost GNSS receivers have recently been gaining reliability as good candidates for ionospheric studies. In line with these gains are genuine concerns about improving the performance of these receivers. In this work, we present a comprehensive investigation of the performances of two antennas(the u-blox ANN-MB and the TOPGNSS TOP-106) used on a low-cost GNSS receiver known as the u-blox ZeD-F9P. The two antennas were installed on two identical and co-located u-blox receivers. Data used from both receivers cover the period from January to June 2022. Results from the study indicate that the signal strengths are dominantly greater for the receiver with the TOPGNSS antenna than for the receiver with the ANN-MB antenna, implying that the TOPGNSS antenna is better than the ANN-MB antenna in terms of providing greater signal strengths. Summarily, the TOPGNSS antenna also performed better in minimizing the occurrence of cycle slips on phase TeC measurements. There are no conspicuous differences between the variances(computed as 5-min standard deviations) of phase TeC measurements for the two antennas, except for a period around May-June when the TOPGNSS gave a better performance in terms of minimizing the variances in phase TeC. Remarkably, the ANN-MB antenna gave a better performance than the TOPGNSS antenna in terms of minimizing the variances in pseudorange TeC for some satellite observations. For precise horizontal(North and east) positioning, the receiver with the TOPGNSS antenna gave better results, while the receiver with the ANN-MB antenna gave better vertical(Up) positioning. The errors for the receivers of both antennas are typically within about 5 m(the monthly mean was usually smaller than 1 m) in the horizontal direction and within about 10 m(the monthly mean was usually smaller than 4 m) in the vertical direction.

The likelihood of having serum level of PSA of ≥4.0 ng/mL and ≥10.0 ng/mL in non-obese and obese Nigerian men with LUTS

Objective:This study was undertaken to determine the likelihood of having serum total prostate specific antigen(PSA)levels ≥4.0 ng/mL and ≥10.0 ng/mL among a cohort of non-obese and obese Nigerian men with lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS).Methods:This was a prospective cross-sectional survey among men who presented with benign prostatic hypertrophy to the urology clinic of the ekiti State University Teaching Hospital,Ado-ekiti with LUTS between January 1 and December 31,*** hundred and forty men who presented in the urologic clinic with LUTS were *** was analyzed using standard method while other clinical variables were collected using a clinical case *** logistic regression was used to estimate the odds of an abnormal PSA of ≥4.0 ng/mL or10.0 ng/mL in these ***:The mean ages of obese and non-obese men were 64.8 and 64.0 years *** mean total serum PSA were 14.8 and 13.2 ng/mL for obese and non-obese men *** analysis showed no difference(p>0.05)in the proportion of obese and non-obese men with LUTS who had a PSA threshold of at least 4.0 ng/*** logistic regression showed that,at a PSA threshold of 10.0 ng/mL,obese men had a statistically significant proportion(pese patients were less likely to have PSA level of ≥4.0 ng/mL(OR 0.701;95%CI 0.301e1.630)compared to obese *** same vein,non-obese men were less likely to have a PSA level of 10.0 ng/mL(OR,0.686;95%CI,0.318e1.478)in a simultaneous context of ***:Our study demonstrated that,in a sample population of predominantly native African men,there was a non-significantly higher likelihood of overweight/obese patients having a higher serum PSA level than the non-obese.A community based study is needed to further confirm this finding.

effect of Fermentation on Nutrient and Anti-nutrient Composition of Millet （Pennisetum glaucum） and Soyabean （Glycine max） Blend Flours

This research was carried out to study the effect of fermentation on the chemical composition, anti-nutrient content, PH, titratable acidity, and microbiological changes of millet and soyabean blend. Millet and soyabean composite flours were mixed in gram of six combinations as follows millet and soyabean （A） = 100：0, millet and soyabean （B） = 90：10, millet and soyabean （C） = 80：20, millet and soyabean （D） = 70：30, millet and soyabean （e） = 60：40, millet and soyabean （F） = 50：50 and subjected to natural fermentation for 72 h. The following bacteria isolates were obtained from the fermentation; Lacobacillus fermentum, L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. plantarum, L. dextranicum, L. rhamnosus, L. delbrueckii, L. leichemanii, L. divergens, L. reuteri, L. jenseni, L. casei, L. salivarius, L. cellubiosus, Leuconostoc mesenteroide and Pediococcus acidilactis, of which L. plantarum was the most dominant the throughout the period of fermentation. There was decrease in pH with increase in TTA in all the samples. The result of the proximate analysis revealed a marginal increase in crude protein content of each sample （from 44.41 to 63.14, from 11.02 to 24.02, from 16.64 to 23.10, from 20.83 to 26.93, from 25.43 to 30.12, 39.12 to 35.86 and from 40.66 to 54.24%） There was increase in ash content and decrease in carbohydrate, fibre and fat contents of the fermented samples. Results from this research also show significant reduction in anti-nutritional content which are hydrogen cyanide, oxa.a.e and phytate. Fermentation has modified the microbial and nutritional quality of the millet and soyabean blend and this has greatly improved the nutrient content of the blend.

Iron, Zinc, and Copper Malnutrition among Primary School Children in Lagos, Niagara

This study assessed the iron, zinc and copper status of primary school-attending children in Lagos. A sample of 200 primary School-attending children was randomly selected using a stratified 2 – stage sampling technique. Data was collected in the 2 major seasons in Nigeria;Dry and Rainy seasons using dietary intake (24 hr dietary recall protocol) venipuncture blood samples, and a self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Among ages 5 - 8 years, the main dietary intake for iron was 10.66 ± 12.44 mg/d (106% of DRI), for zinc, 7.30 ± 7.39 mg/d (92% of DRI) and for copper, 1.55 ± 1.31 mg/d (390% of DRI). For ages 9 - 13 yrs, the mean intake of micronutrients showed that iron was 11.03 ± 12.72 mg/d (138% of DRI), 3inc was 8.44 ± 7.7 mg/d (105% of DRI) and copper was 3.75 ± 15.17 mg/d (536% of DRI). Biochemical results indicated that 19.8% of the subjects had inadequate serum iron, 21% and 32.1% were zinc and copper deficient respectively prevalence of anemia was 38.1% while iron deficiency anemia was 13.06% and iron deficiency was 34.6%. Dietary intakes did not provide right amounts of micronutrients to meet body requirements. There is the need to formulate and implement nutrition education programs to correct micronutrient deficiency among primary school-attending children in Lagos, Nigeria.

Soil Salinity Detection in Semi-Arid Region Using Spectral Unmixing, Remote Sensing and Ground Truth Measurements

Soil salinity is one of the serious environmental problems ravaging the soils of arid and semi-arid region, thereby affecting crop productivity, livestock, increase level of poverty and land degradation. Hyperspectral remote sensing is one of the important techniques to monitor, analyze and estimate the extent and severity of soil salt at regional to local scale. In this study we develop a model for the detection of salt-affected soils in arid and semi-arid regions and in our case it’s Ghannouch, Gabes. We used fourteen spectral indices and six spectral bands extracted from the Hyperion data. Linear Spectral Unmixing technique (LSU) was used in this study to improve the correlation between electrical conductivity and spectral indices and then improve the prediction of soil salinity as well as the reliability of the model. To build the model a multiple linear regression analysis was applied using the best correlated indices. The standard error of the estimate is about 1.57 mS/cm. The results of this study show that hyperion data is accurate and suitable for differentiating between categories of salt affected soils. The generated model can be used for ma.a.ement strategies in the future.
