Eco-toxicity and health risk assessment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in surface sediments of Burullus Lake in Egypt

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)are ubiquitous environmental contaminants of growing concern due to their potential ecological and human health *** study presents a comprehensive assessment of PAHs contamination in the surface sediments of Burullus Lake,a vital and second largest delta lake in *** aim was to evaluate the eco-toxicity and potential health risks associated with the presence of these *** seven sediment samples were collected from various drains in the southern part of Burullus *** extraction method was employed to extract PAHs(16PAHs)from the sediment ***,target compounds were located using *** results showed that samples contained PAHs levels ranging from 0.038×10^(-6)to 0.459×10^(-6),which is considered heavily polluted by the European standard for PAHs ***,there was no apparent source of PAHs in the ElKhashah drain or the Brinbal Canal,as HPLC found none of the *** most prevalent compound in sediment samples along the study area was *** diagnostic indices in the present study indicated that the hydrocarbons in the region originated from pyrolytic and man-made sources along the drains of Burullus *** principal component analysis(PCA)and diagnostic ratios revealed that coal combustion and pyrolytic sources were responsible for the PAHs contamination in the surface *** non-carcinogenic risk(HI),which is the product of the HQs for the adult and child populations,respectively,was *** values under 1,therefore,demonstrated that they had no carcinogenic effects on human *** and MEQs in the sediments of Burullus Lake do not have a cancer-causing impact on *** the safety of nearby wildlife,aquatic life,and people,all activities that raise petroleum hydrocarbon levels in Burullus Lake must be adequately regulated and *** to the ecological risk assessment,there is little chance that PAHs will be found

AIM：To compare visual efficiency,specifically accommodation,vergence,and oculomotor functions among athletes and ***：A cross-sectional study on sports vision screening was used to evaluate the visual skills of 214elementary students（107 athletes,107 non-athletes）,aged between 13 and *** visual screening assessed visual parameters such as ocular motor alignment,accommodation,and vergence ***：Mean visual parameters were compared between age-group matched athletes（mean age14.82±0.98y）and non-athletes（mean age 15.00±1.04y）.The refractive errors of all participants were corrected to maximal attainable best corrected visual acuity of log *** function assessment evaluated amplitude of accommodation and accommodation *** functions measured the near point of convergence,vergence facility,and distance fusional vergence at break and recovery *** motor alignment was not statistically significant between both *** had a statistically significant amplitude of accommodation for both the right eye（t=2.30,P=0.02）and the left eye（t=1.99,P=0.05）.Conversely,non-athletes had better accommodation facility（t=-2.54,P=0.01）and nearpoint of convergence（t=4.39,P〈0.001）when compared to *** facility was found to be better among athletes（t=2.47,P=0.01）.Nevertheless,non-athletes were significantly better for both distance negative and positive fusional ***：Although the findings are still inconclusive as to whether athletes had superior visual skills as compared to non-athletes,it remains important to identify and elucidate the key visual skills needed by athletes in order for them to achieve higher performance in their sports.

This study aims to investigate the influence of spiritual values on work motivation, management control, and the quality of financial information on Islamic financial institutions （IFIs） in Indonesia. Spiritual values are measured using four reflexive indicators, namely, Shiddiq, Fathanah, Amanah, and Tabligh. Work motivation is formed by four formative indicators, namely, compensation, recognition, work experience, and openness. Management control variable is formed by four formative indicators, namely, planning, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring, and finally, the quality of financial information is manifested in four reflexive variables, namely, relevant, comparable, understandable, and consistent. Data are collected through questionnaires with 125 respondents as samples from three types of IFIs, such as Islamic banking, Islamic pawnshop, and Islamic insurance in Indonesia. Methods of data analysis include the use of partial least squares （PLS） to analyze the influence of spiritual values on work motivation, management control, and quality of financial information. The results of this study showed that the manifestation of spiritual values in IFIs is able to influence the quality of financial information through the media as motivation and management control, but directly spiritual values are not able to influence the quality of financial information. While work motivation and management control significantly influence the quality of financial information.

Vanillyl alcohol, which is made up of an aromatic ring, an alcoholic hydroxyl group, a phenolic hydroxyl group and a methoxy group, was selected as the model molecule of lignin. Various carbon materials supported Pd catalysts were chosen to catalyze the HDO of vanillyl alcohol. The catalysts were characterized via TEM, TPD, XRD, XPS and CO-chemisorption. It was found that different carbon materials could obviously influence the particle sizes, dispersion and distribution of Pd or PdO particles. Palladium and carbon can synergistically catalyze the room-temperature HDO of vanillyl alcohol even at room temperature, and the carboxyl group was found to be the effective active acid site during the reaction. Possible reaction mechanism was also proposed. The existence of the effective active acid sites on the carbon supports could obviously lower the reaction temperature without decreasing the selectivity, as a result, making the production of renewable fuels by HDO much more economically feasible, which is of much importance. © 2016 Science Press

TelG Mote: A Green Wireless Sensor Node Platform for Smart Home and Ambient Assisted Living

The wireless sensor network （WSN） consists of sensor nodes that interact with each other to collectively monitor environmental or physical conditions at different locations for the intended users. One of its potential deployments is in the form of smart home and ambient assisted living （SHAAL）to measure patients or elderly physiological signals, control home appliances, and monitor home. This paper focuses on the development of a wireless sensor node platform for SHAAL application over WSN which complies with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and operates in 2.4 GHz ISM （industrial, scientific, and medical） band. The initial stage of SHAAL application development is the design of the wireless sensor node named TelG mote. The main features of TelG mote contributing to the green communications include low power consumption, wearable, flexible, user-friendly, and small sizes. It is then embedded with a self-built operating system named WiseOS to support customized operation. The node can achieve a packet reception rate （PRR） above 80% for a distance of up to 8 m. The designed TelG mote is also comparable with the existing wireless sensor nodes available in the market.

NdZrO–ZrOnanocomposites were prepared via a facile process with propylene glycol as novel connecting agent and benzene tricarboxylic acid as a new complexing agent. The as-obtained NdZrO–ZrOnanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis（EDX）, Fourier transform infrared（FT-IR）spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）, and X-ray diffraction（XRD）. According to the morphological studies of the as-synthesized nanocomposites, it was found that the shape and particle size of NdZrO–ZrOnanocomposites depended on the space-filling template type, dosage of space-filling template and tricarboxylic acid as complexing agent. NdZrO–ZrOnanocomposites with different shapes and grain sizes have been synthesized. The photocatalytic behavior of as-produced NdZrO–ZrOnanocomposites was also investigated through photodegradation of methylene blue dye and 2-naphthol as water pollutants.

N-Methylimidazolium perchlorate as a new ionic liquid for the synthesis of bis(pyrazol-5-ol)s under solvent-free conditions

N-Methylimidazolium perchlorate（[MIm]ClO_4） was synthesized and some of its physico-chemical properties, such as density, surface tension were investigated. A thermo gravimetric analysis（TGA） and solvent performance were also studied. The results show that this ionic liquid is an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of 4,4＇-（arylmethylene）bis（1H-pyrazol-5-ol） derivatives under solvent-free *** method has the advantages of high yield, clean transformation, simple operation and short reaction time. The ionic liquid can be recycled without significant loss of activity.

Electrochemical Generation of Cubic Shaped Nano Zn_2SnO_4 Photocatalysts

In this contribution, an efficient and simple two-step hybrid electrochemical-thermal route was developed for the synthesis of cubic shaped Zn_2SnO_4 (ZTO) nanoparticles using aqueous sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO_3) and sodium stannate(Na_2SnO_3) electrolyte. The sacrificial Zn was used as anode and cathode in an undivided cell under galvanostatic mode at room temperature. The bath concentration and current density were respectively varied from 30 to 120 mmol and 0.05 to 1.5 A/dm^2. The electrochemically generated precursor was calcined for an hour at different range of temperature from 60 to 600. The crystallite sizes in the range of 24-53 nm were calculated based on Debye-Scherrer equation. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy results reveal that all the particles have cubic morphology with diameter of40-50 nm. The as-prepared ZTO samples showed higher catalytic activity towards the degradation of methylene blue(MB) dye, and 90% degradation was found for the sample calcined at 600, which is greater than that of commercial TiO_2-P25 photocatalysts. The photodegradation efficiency of ZTO samples was found to be a function of exposure time and the dye solution p H value. These results indicate that the ZTO nanoparticles may be employed to remove dyes from wastewater.
