Seasonal to sub-seasonal variations of the Asian Tropopause Aerosols Layer affected by the deep convection,surface pollutants and precipitation

The Asian Tropopause Aerosols Layer(ATAL)refers to an accumulation of aerosols in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere during boreal summer over Asia,which has a fundamental impact on the monsoon system and climate change.In this study,we primarily analyze the seasonal to sub-seasonal variations of the ATAL and the factors potentially influencing those variations based on MERRA2 reanalysis.The ability of the reanalysis to reproduce the ATAL is well validated by CALIPSO observations from May to October 2016.The results reveal that the ATAL has a synchronous spatiotemporal pattern with the development and movement of the Asian Summer Monsoon.Significant enhancement of ATAL intensity is found during the prevailing monsoon period of July-August,with two maxima centered over South Asia and the Arabian Peninsula.Owing to the fluctuations of deep convection,the ATAL shows an episodic variation on a timescale of 7-12 days.Attribution analysis indicates that deep convection dominates the variability of the ATAL with a contribution of 62.7%,followed by a contribution of 36.6%from surface pollutants.The impact of precipitation is limited.The ATAL further shows a clear diurnal variation:the peak of ATAL intensity occurs from 17:30 to 23:30 local time(LT),when the deep convection becomes strongest;the minimum ATAL intensity occurs around 8:30 LT owing to the weakened deep convection and photochemical reactions in clouds.The aerosol components of the ATAL show different spatiotemporal patterns and imply that black carbon and organic carbon come mainly from India,whereas sulfate comes mainly from China during the prevailing monsoon period.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs)derived from mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have emerged as a new mode of intercellular crosstalk and are responsible for many of the thera-peutic effects of MSCs.To promote the application of MSC-EVs,recent studies have focused on the manipulation of MSCs to improve the production of EVs and EV-mediated activities.The current paper details an optimization method using non-invasive low-intensity pulsed ul-trasound(LIPUS)as the stimulation for improving oral MSC-EV production and effectiveness.Stem cells from apical papilla(SCAP),a type of oral mesenchymal stem cell,displayed inten-sity-dependent pro-osteogenic and anti-inflammatory responses to LIPUS without significant cytotoxicity or apoptosis.The stimuli increased the secretion of EVs by promoting the expres-sion of neutral sphingomyelinases in SCAP.In addition,EVs from LIPUS-induced SCAP exhibited stronger efficacy in promoting the osteogenic differentiation and anti-inflammation of peri-odontal ligament cells in vitro and alleviating oral inflammatory bone loss in vivo.In addition,LIPUS stimulation affected the physical characteristics and miRNA cargo of SCAP-EVs.Further investigations indicated that miR-935 is an important mediator of the pro-osteogenic and anti-inflammatory capabilities of LIPUS-induced SCAP-EVs.Taken together,these findings demonstrate that LIPUS is a simple and effective physical method to optimize SCAP-EV produc-tion and efficacy.

Towards the Deep Convergence of Communication and Computing in RAN: Scenarios, Architecture, Key Technologies, Challenges and Future Trends

To accommodate the diversified emerging use cases in 5G,radio access networks(RAN)is required to be more flexible,open,and versatile.It is evolving towards cloudification,intelligence and openness.By embedding computing capabilities within RAN,it helps to transform RAN into a natural cost effective radio edge computing platform,offering great opportunity to further enhance RAN agility for diversified services and improve users’quality of experience(Qo E).In this article,a logical architecture enabling deep convergence of communication and computing in RAN is proposed based on O-RAN.The scenarios and potential benefits of sharing RAN computing resources are first analyzed.Then,the requirements,design principles and logical architecture are introduced.Involved key technologies are also discussed,including heterogeneous computing infrastructure,unified computing and communication task modeling,joint communication and computing orchestration and RAN computing data routing.Followed by that,a VR use case is studied to illustrate the superiority of the joint communication and computing optimization.Finally,challenges and future trends are highlighted to provide some insights on the potential future work for researchers in this field.

Major depressive disorder(MDD)causes great decrements in health and quality of life with increments in healthcare costs,but the causes and pathogenesis of depression remain largely unknown,which greatly prevent its early detection and effective treatment.With the advancement of neuroimaging approaches,numerous functional and structural alterations in the brain have been detected in MDD and more recently attempts have been made to apply these findings to clinical practice.In this review,we provide an updated summary of the progress in translational application of psychoradiological findings in MDD with a specified focus on potential clinical usage.The foreseeable clinical applications for different MRI modalities were introduced according to their role in disorder classification,subtyping,and prediction.While evidence of cerebral structural and functional changes associated with MDD classification and subtyping was heterogeneous and/or sparse,the ACC and hippocampus have been consistently suggested to be important biomarkers in predicting treatment selection and treatment response.These findings underlined the potential utility of brain biomarkers for clinical practice.

Despite advances in treatment of chronic arthritis,there is still a strong need for the development of long-acting formulations that can enable local and sustained drug release at the inflamed tissues.In this work,we fabricated microcrystals of an acid-sensitive stearoxyl-ketal-dexamethasone prodrug for treatment of arthritis.Microcrystals of the prodrug with two sizes were successfully engineered and showed pH-dependent hydrolysis kinetics in vitro.In a collagen-induced arthritis rat model,we evaluated the influence of particle size and injection dose on anti-inflammatory effect after intra-articular injection.Such prodrug demonstrated long-acting anti-arthritis effects with good safety.Our results indicate ketal-based prodrugs are promising for the development of long-acting injectables and may stimulate the development of new treatments for chronic diseases.

免疫治疗已成为癌症临床实践与科学研究中的全球瞩目焦点。近两年尤以Nivolumab、Pembrolizumab、Atezolizumab和Ipilimumab为代表的PD-1PD-L1和CTLA-4抑制剂,针对免疫检查点在肿瘤免疫调节中的作用已在非小细胞肺癌、结肠癌、黑色素瘤和尿道癌等恶性肿瘤中取得了令人振奋的成果。中医药在中国有着悠久的历史,调控免疫检查点治疗恶性肿瘤具有一定优势,并且改善其不良事件也表现出较好的疗效。本文综述了中医药在调控免疫检查点和改善不良反应中的作用及其在免疫调节治疗中的应用前景。

可再生能源和氢能产业快速发展,氨作为储氢介质,因其能发挥长时储氢和长距离运氢的作用,受到广泛关注。化石燃料制氢合成氨工艺成熟,但二氧化碳排放强度大。绿氨以可再生能源电解制氢作为氢源,具有减少合成氨产业碳排放、消纳风光等可再生能源、充当储氢载体易于储运等优势,在碳达峰碳中和的目标下,开发绿氨合成工艺具有重要意义。本文总结了工业Haber-Bosch法合成氨、电化学、光催化、等离子体和化学链合成氨取得的研究进展及面临的挑战,阐述了可再生能源电解制氢合成氨工艺的技术路线和发展现状,对比了煤制灰氨和可再生能源制绿氨工艺的技术经济可行性,分析了电价、电解制氢能耗等因素对电解制氢合成氨成本的影响,论述了分别以氨为载体储氢和储存液氢的成本构成,研究了分别以氨为载体运氢和运输气氢的成本,提出了对绿氢合成绿氨、以绿氨为载体储运氢产业发展的思考。

Altered cortical morphology in major depression disorder patients with suicidality

Background:Major depressive disorder(MDD)is associated with high risk of suicide,but the biological under-pinnings of suicidality in MDD patients are far from conclusive.Previous neuroimaging studies using voxel-based morphometry(VBM)demonstrated that depressed individuals with suicidal thoughts or behaviors exhibit specific cortical structure alterations.To complement VBM findings,surface-based morphometry(SBM)can pro-vide more details into gray matter structure,including the cortical complexity,cortical thickness and sulcal depth for brain images.Objective:This study aims to use SBM to investigate cortical morphology alterations to obtain evidence for neuroanatomical alterations in depressed patients with suicidality.Methods:Here,3D T1-weighted MR images of brain from 39 healthy controls,40 depressed patients without suicidality(patient controls),and 39 with suicidality(suicidal groups)were analyzed based on SBM to estimate the fractal dimension,gyrification index,sulcal depth,and cortical thickness using the Computational Anatomy Toolbox.Correlation analyses were performed between clinical data and cortical surface measurements from patients.Results:Surface-based morphometry showed decreased sulcal depth in the parietal,frontal,limbic,occipital and temporal regions and decreased fractal dimension in the frontal regions in depressed patients with sui-cidality compared to both healthy and patient controls.Additionally,in patients with depression,the sulcal depth of the left caudal anterior cingulate cortex was negatively correlated with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores.Conclusions:Depressed patients with suicidality had abnormal cortical morphology in some brain regions within the default mode network,frontolimbic circuitry and temporal regions.These structural deficits may be associated with the dysfunction of emotional processing and impulsivity control.This study provides insights into the underlying neurobiology of the suicidal brain.

High drug loading and pH-responsive nanomedicines driven by dynamic boronate covalent chemistry for potent cancer immunotherapy

Tumor cells undergoing immunogenic cell death (ICD) have emerged as an in situ therapeutic vaccine helping to activate a persistent anti-tumor response. Several chemotherapeutic agents have been demonstrated to induce ICD, however accompanied with severe adverse effects in the clinic, weakening its immune responses. Herein, to elicit an intensive ICD while minimizing the systemic toxicity, we introduce a tumor targeting peptide modified bortezomib (BTZ) loading nanomedicine (i-NPBTZ) for the efficient delivery and controlled release of BTZ in tumors. This system is constructed by conjugating BTZ to PEGylated polyphenols via a pH-sensitive covalent boronate-phenol bond that allows them to self-assemble into nanovesicles in neutral condition with high drug loading efficiency. Once accumulated in acidic environment, BTZ-phenolic network is disassembled and thereby accelerates the release of BTZ from nanocarriers. The released BTZ selectively kill tumor cells with a concomitant evocation of tumor-specific cytotoxic T cells by triggering ICD in vivo. This can finally lead to an extended tumor ablation and prevention of distant metastasis in a syngeneic tumor mouse model, while reducing the systemic toxicity of BTZ. In general, our system offers a novel concept with clinical potential to exploit ICD for potentiating tumor immunotherapy and also provides an excellent example of the application of polymer-drug interaction for efficient drug delivery and controllable release.
