A treatability study of industrial wastewater containing chlorinated nitroaromatic compounds （CNACs） by a catalytic ozonation process （COP） with a modified Mn/Co ceramic catalyst and an aerobic sequencing batch reactor （SBR） was investigated. A preliminary attempt to treat the diluted wastewater with a single SBR resulted in ineffective removal of the color, ammonia, total organic carbon （TOC） and chemical oxygen demand （COD）. Next, COP was applied as a pretreatment in order to obtain a bio-compatible wastewater for SBR treatment in a second step. The effectiveness of the COP pretreatment was assessed by evaluating wastewater biodegradability enhancement （the ratio of biology oxygen demand after 5 d （BOD5） to COD）, as well as monitoring the evolution of TOC, carbon oxidation state （COS）, average oxidation state （AOS）, color, and major pollutant concentrations with reaction time. In the COP, the catalyst preserved its catalytic properties even after 70 reuse cycles, exhibiting good durability and stability. The performance of SBR to treat COP effluent was also examined. At an organic loading rate of 2.0 kg COD/（m^3.d）, with hydraulic retention time （HRT）=10 h and temperature （30±2） ℃, the average removal efficiencies of NH3-N, COD, BOD5, TOC, and color in a coupled COP/SBR process were about 80%, 95.8%, 93.8%, 97.6% and 99.3%, respectively, with average effluent concentrations of 10 mg/l, 128 mg/l, 27.5 mg/l, 25.0 mg/l, and 20 multiples, respectively, which were all consistent with the national standards for secondary discharge of industrial wastewater into a public sewerage system （GB 8978-1996）. The results indicated that the coupling of COP with a biological process was proved to be a technically and economically effective method for treating industrial wastewater containing recalcitrant CNACs.

The selection of cadmium-excluding cultivars has been used to minimize the transfer of cadmium into the human food chain. In this experiment, five Chinese soybean plants were grown in three soils with different concentrations of Cd（0.15, 0.75 and 1.12 mg/kg）.Variations in uptake, enrichment, and translocation of Cd among these soybean cultivars were studied. The results indicated that the concentration of Cd in seeds that grew at1.12 mg/kg Cd in soils exceeded the permitted maximum levels in soybeans. Therefore, our results indicated that even some soybean cultivars grown on soils with permitted levels of Cd might accumulate higher concentrations of Cd in seeds that are hazardous to human health. The seeds of these five cultivars were further assessed for interactions between Cd and other mineral nutrient elements such as Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn and Zn. High Cd concentration in soil was found to inhibit the uptake of Mn. Furthermore, Fe and Zn accumulations were found to be enhanced in the seeds of all of the five soybean cultivars in response to high Cd concentration. Cultivar Tiefeng 31 was found to fit the criteria for a Cd-excluding cultivar under different concentrations of Cd in soils.

The effect of curvature on the band alignment of one-dimensional (1D) van der Waals (vdW) transition metal dichalcogenide(TMDC) heterostructures is studied by comprehensive first-principles calculations. We find that, as the diameter of a TMDCnanotube decreases, the combined effect of curvature-induced flexoelectricity and circumferential tensile strain causes a rapidlowering of the conduction band minimum, whereas the valence band maximum exhibits an initial lowering before rising. Asindividual TMDC nanotubes form coaxial heterostructures, the concerted effect of diameter-dependent band-edge levels andintertube coupling via flexovoltage can result in a transition of intertube band alignment from Type II to Type I in multipleheterostructural systems, including large-diameter MoSe_(2)@WS_(2), MoTe_(2)@MoSe_(2), and MoTe_(2)@WS_(2) heterostructures. These results laydown a foundation for the rational design of 1D vdW heterostructures.

The Soil land Inference Model(SolIM) was primarily proposed by zhu et al.(zhu A X, Band l, Vertessy R, Dutton B. 1997. Derivation of soil properties using a soil land inference model(SolIM). Soil Sci Soc Am J. 61: 523–533.) and was based on the Third law of Geography. Based on the assumption that the soil property value at a location of interest will be more similar to that of a given soil sample when the environmental condition at the location of interest is more similar to that at the location from which the sample was taken, SolIM estimates the soil property value of the location of interest using the soil property values of known samples weighted by the similarity between those samples and the location of interest in terms of an attribute domain of environmental conditions. However, the current SolIM method ignores information about the spatial distances between the location of interest and those of the sample. In this study, we proposed a new method of soil property mapping, So lIM-IDW, which incorporates spatial distance information into the SolIM method by means of inverse distance weighting(IDW). The proposed method is based on the assumption that the soil property value at a location of interest will be more similar to that of a known sample both when the environmental conditions are more similar and when the distance between the location of interest and the sample location is shorter. Our evaluation experiments on A-horizon soil organic matter mapping in two study areas with independent evaluation samples showed that the proposed SolIM-IDW method can obtain lower prediction errors than the original SolIM method, multiple linear regression, geographically weighted regression, and regression-kriging with the same modeling points. Future work mainly includes the determination of optimal power parameter values and the appropriate setting of the parameter under different application contexts.

Inoculation of wheat(Triticum aestivum l.)leaves with wheat powdery mildew fungus(Blumeria graminis ***)induces the cell death in adventitious *** oxygen species(ROS)play a key role in respond to biotic stress in *** study the involvement of ROS and the degree of cell death in the wheat roots following inoculation,ROS levels and microstructure of root cells were analyzed in two wheat cultivars that are susceptible(Huamai 8)and resistant(Shenmai 8)to powdery mildew *** 18 d after powdery mildew fungus inoculation,only Huamai 8 displayed the leaf lesions,while root cell death occurred in both *** 8 had a high level of ROS accumulation,which is associated with increased root cell degradation,while in Shenmai 8,there was little ROS accumulation correlating with slight root cell *** molecular study about the expression levels of ROS scavenging genes(MnSOD and CAT)in wheat roots showed that these genes expression decreased after the leaves of wheat was *** difference between Huamai 8 and Shenmai 8 on subcellular localization of H2 O2 and O2^–·was corresponded with the different down-regulation of the genes encoding for superoxide dismutase and catalase in two wheat *** results suggested that ROS were involved in the process by which powdery mildew fungus induced cell death in wheat roots.

The seismic performance of precast reinforced concrete （RC） coupled shear walls is significantly influenced by coupling beams and the beam-to-wall joints during large deformations into plastic ranges. This study investigated the use of engineered cementitious composite （ECC） in the cast-in-place beam-to-wall joints and the upper regions of the composite coupling beams as an innovative method to improve the seismic performance ofprecast RQ coupled shear walls. Two 1/2-scale precast coupled shear walls were tested under reversed cyclic loading and seismic behavior in terms of failure characteristic, mechanical characteristic value, load-displacement hysteresis curves, load-displacement envelope relationship, stiffness degradation, ductility and energy dissipation capacity were evaluated. Research results show that the substitution of concrete with ECC in the critical cast-in-place regions proved to be an effective method to improve the seismic performance of the two-story spatial of precast RC coupled shear walls.

The existing studies have primarily focused on the effect of cyclic load characteristics(namely,cyclic load ratio and amplitude ratio)on cyclic lateral response of monopiles in sand,with little attention paid to the effect of pile−soil relative stiffness(K_(R)).This paper presents a series of 1-g cyclic tests aimed at improving understanding of the cyclic lateral responses of monopiles under different pile−soil *** systems are arranged by two model piles with different stiffness,including four different slenderness ratios(pile embedded length,l,normalized by diameter,D)under medium dense *** K_(R)-values are calculated by a previously proposed method considering the real soil stress *** test results show that the lateral accumulation displacement increases significantly with the increment of the K_(R)-value,while the cyclic secant stiffness performs *** maximum pile bending moment increases with the cycle number for the rigid pile−soil system,but shows a decreasing trend in the flexible *** an uppermost concern,an empirical model is proposed to predict the accumulated displacement of arbitrary pile−soil systems by combining the results from this study with those from previous experimental *** validity of the proposed model is demonstrated by 1-g and centrifuge tests.

Carbonated decomposition of hydrogarnet is one of the vital reactions of the calcification–carbonation method,which is designed to dispose of low-grade bauxite and Bayer red mud and is a novel eco-friendly *** this study,the effect of the silica saturation coefficient(x)on the carbonation of hydrogarnet was investigated from the kinetic *** results indicated that the carbonation of hydrogarnets with different x values(x=0.27,0.36,0.70,and 0.73)underwent two stages with significantly different rates,and the kinetic mechanisms of the two stages can be described by the kinetic functions R3 and *** apparent activation energies at Stages 1 and 2 were 41.96–81.64 and 14.80–34.84 kJ/mol,***,the corresponding limiting steps of the two stages were interfacial chemical reaction and diffusion.

Neutrinos play an important role in stellar *** are produced by nuclear reactions or thermal *** the stellar evolution code Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics(MESA),we study stellar neutrino luminosity with different *** neutrino luminosities of stars with different initial masses at different evolutionary stages are *** find that the neutrino flux of a star with 1 M⊙ mass at an evolutionary age of 4.61×10^9 yr is consistent with that of the *** general,neutrinos are produced by nuclear reactions,and the neutrino luminosity of stars is about one or two magnitudes lower than the photo ***,neutrino luminosity can exceed photo luminosity during the helium flash which can occur for stars with a mass lower than 8 M⊙.Although the helium flash does not produce neutrinos,plasma decay,one of the thermal processes,can efficiently make neutrinos during this *** to the high mass-loss rate,a star with a mass of 9 M⊙ does not undergo the helium *** neutrinos mainly originate from nuclear reactions until the end of the AGB *** the end of the AGB stage,its neutrino luminosity results from plasma decay which is triggered by the gravitational energy release because of the stellar core contracting.
