Fe(Ⅱ)-mediated transformation of schwertmannite associated with calcium from acid mine drainage treatment

Schwertmannite is an important Fe(Ⅲ)-oxyhydroxysulfate in acid mine drainage (AMD) polluted areas and its stability depends on surrounding environmental factors and previously bound elements.The treatment and neutralization of AMD normally involve the use of lime,which leads to the discharge of abundant Ca in the mining area.Such an environmental disturbance brings up an important and less considered problem of how the reductive transformation of schwertmannite associated with coexisting Ca occurred.Here,the Fe(Ⅱ)-mediated transformation of Ca-adsorbed schwertmannite and subsequent Ca repartitioning behaviors were investigated.Results showed that adsorbed Ca had a weak inhibitory effect on Fe(Ⅱ)-mediated schwertmannite transformation.Release of SO_(4)2-and SEM images both indicated that transformation rates of schwertmannite decreased under the influence of adsorbed Ca.XRD patterns indicated that adsorbed Ca altered schwertmannite transformation pathways and product compositions upon treatment with 0.4 mmol/L Fe(Ⅱ).The end products of Sch notably contained both goethite and lepidocrocite;however,transformation products of SchCa only contained goethite all along.Approximately 33.5%of the surface adsorbed-Ca was released into solution within 6 hr after Fe(Ⅱ) injection.Aqueous Ca behaved in a“first release and then im-mobilization”manner,which indicated dissolution and secondary mineralization drove Ca migration during the Fe(Ⅱ)-mediated transformation of SchCa.Adsorbed Ca blocked the surface sites for subsequent Fe(Ⅱ) adsorption,limited the Fe(Ⅱ)-Fe(Ⅲ) ETAE,and decreased the transformation rates.This work sheds light on the complex geochemical behavior of schwertmannite under the influences of environmental perturbations in AMD environments.

Choledochal cysts(CCs),first described by Vater and Ezler in 1723,are rare congenital cystic dilations of biliary tract[1].The most widely adopted classification system from Todani et al.divides CCs into five major types and several subtypes[2].Almost all of the CCs are type I and type IV-A,while type IV-B is extremely rare[3,4].The accurate diagnosis and precise categorization of CCs are crucial for surgeons to perform proper operative strategy.

Identification of necroptosis-related lncRNAs for prognosis prediction and screening of potential drugs in patients with colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Tumor recurrence and metastasis lead to a poor prognosis in colorectal cancer(CRC).Necroptosis is closely related to the tumor microenvironment(TME)and affects tumor recurrence and metastasis.We aimed to stratify CRC patients according to necroptosis-related long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs),which can be used to not only evaluate prognosis and improve precision medicine in clinical practice but also screen potential immunotherapy drugs.AIM To stratify CRC patients according to necroptosis-related lncRNAs(NRLs),which can be used to not only evaluate prognosis and improve precision medicine in clinical practice but also screen potential immunotherapy drugs.METHODS LncRNA expression profiles were collected from The Cancer Genome Atlas.NRLs were identified by coexpression analysis.Cox regression analysis identified a NRL signature.Then,the value of this signature was comprehensively and multidimensionally evaluated,and its reliability for CRC prognosis prediction was assessed with clinical CRC data and compared with that of six other lncRNA were also performed according to the risk score(RS)of the signature.RESULTS An 8-lncRNA signature significantly associated with overall survival(OS)was constructed,and its reliability was validated with clinical CRC data.Most of the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves(AUCs)values for 1-,3-and 5-year OS for this signature were higher than those for the other six lncRNA signatures.OS,disease-specific survival and the progression-free interval were all significantly poorer in the high-risk group.The RS of the signature showed good concordance with the predicted prognosis,with AUCs for 1-,3-and 5-year OS of 0.79,0.81 and 0.77,respectively.Additionally,the calibration plots for this signature combined with clinical factors showed that this combination could effectively improve the ability to predict OS.The RS was correlated with tumor stage,lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis.Most of the enriched Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes and Gene Ontol

A deep reinforcement learning(DRL)based approach for well-testing interpretation to evaluate reservoir parameters

Parameter inversions in oil/gas reservoirs based on well test interpretations are of great significance in oil/gas industry.Automatic well test interpretations based on artificial intelligence are the most promising to solve the problem of non-unique solution.In this work,a new deep reinforcement learning(DRL)based approach is proposed for automatic curve matching for well test interpretation,by using the double deep Q-network(DDQN).The DDQN algorithms are applied to train agents for automatic parameter tuning in three conventional well-testing models.In addition,to alleviate the dimensional disaster problem of parameter space,an asynchronous parameter adjustment strategy is used to train the agent.Finally,field applications are carried out by using the new DRL approaches.Results show that step number required for the DDQN to complete the curve matching is the least among,when comparing the naive deep Q-network(naive DQN)and deep Q-network(DQN).We also show that DDQN can improve the robustness of curve matching in comparison with supervised machine learning algorithms.Using DDQN algorithm to perform 100 curve matching tests on three traditional well test models,the results show that the mean relative error of the parameters is 7.58%for the homogeneous model,10.66%for the radial composite model,and 12.79%for the dual porosity model.In the actual field application,it is found that a good curve fitting can be obtained with only 30 steps of parameter adjustment.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa-related effusive-constrictive pericarditis diagnosed with echocardiography:A case report

BACKGROUND Effusive-constrictive pericarditis(ECP)is an uncommon pericardial syndrome.Careful echocardiographic examination may provide helpful information not only for diagnosing but also for managing ECP.ECP has various etiologies;however,Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa)infection has not been reported as a cause to date.Herein,we present a rare case of ECP caused by P.aeruginosa infection,which was followed up using echocardiography.CASE SUMMARY A 30-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with a 2-mo history of cough,dyspnea,bloating,palpitations,and lower-extremity edema.The patient was initially diagnosed with pericardial effusion by transthoracic echocardiography.Drainage of pericardial effusion was performed to relieve the clinical symptoms.A follow-up echocardiogram showed that the pericardial effusion had decreased;however,the right atrial pressure continued to increase,and signs of constrictive pericarditis were observed upon a more comprehensive inspection.Therefore,the diagnosis of ECP was established based on the comprehensive pre-and postpericardiocentesis echocardiographic findings.An urgent pericardectomy was subsequently performed,which significantly relieved the patient's clinical symptoms,and the signs of pericardial constriction on echocardiography improved.Pericardial effusion and pericardial culture showed growth of P.aeruginosa.CONCLUSION ECP induced by P.aeruginosa infection remains a rare disease.The presence of echocardiographic features of constrictive pericarditis after pericardiocentesis therapy is highly indicative of ECP.

Ti-Al-V-Zr quaternary titanium alloys were designed followingα-{[Al-Ti12](AlTi2)}17-n+β-{[Al-Ti12Zr2](V3)}n,where n=1-7(the number ofβunits),on the basis of the dual-cluster formula of popular Ti-6Al-4V alloy.Such an alloying strategy aims at strengthening the alloy via Zr and V co-alloying in theβ-Ti unit,based on the originalβformula[Al-Ti14](V2Ti)of Ti-6Al-4V alloy.The microstructures of the as-cast alloys by copper-mold suction-casting change from pureα(n=1)toα+α’martensite(n=7).When n is 6,Ti-5.6Al-6.8V-8.1Zr alloy reaches the highest ultimate tensile strength of 1,293 MPa and yield strength of 1,097 MPa,at the expense of a low elongation of 2%,mainly due to the presence of a large amount of acicularα’martensite.Its specific strength far exceeds that of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by 35%.

Paclitaxel Prodrug Nanomedicine for Potential CT-imaging Guided Breast Cancer Therapy

Nanotheranostics,which combine the therapeutic and diagnostic functions in one integrated system,have received extensive attentions in cancer treatments because they enable non-invasive diagnosis,tumor-targeted drug delivery,and real-time monitoring of therapeutic response.However,due to the high systemic toxicity of commonly used chemotherapeutics,current treatment still has limitations.Herein,to simultaneously achieve safe cancer therapy and therapeutic response monitoring,an iodinated prodrug strategy was proposed.2,3,5-Triiodobenzoic acid(TIBA)was used to modify both paclitaxel(PTX)and the polymeric vehicle,so that the encapsulation efficiency of PTX could be increased and the systemic toxicity could be reduced.As-prepared prodrug nanoparticles could accumulate passively in the tumor site and promptly release loaded drugs in response to the overexpressed GSH in cancer cells,which then caused efficient cell cycle arrest and apoptosis like that of the parent PTX.With this rational design,safe and efficient antitumor therapy and real-time computer tomography(CT)imaging could be simultaneously realized,facilitating potential CT imaging-guided therapy of metastatic breast cancer.

Up-regulation of HCN2 channels in a thalamocortical circuit mediates allodynia in mice

Chronic pain is a significant problem that afflicts individuals and society,and for which the current clinical treatment is inadequate.In addition,the neural circuit and molecular mechanisms subserving chronic pain remain largely uncharacterized.Herein we identified enhanced activity of a glutamatergic neuronal circuit that encompasses projections from the ventral posterolateral nucleus(VPLGlu) to the glutamatergic neurons of the hindlimb primary somatosensory cortex(S1HLGlu),driving allodynia in mouse models of chronic pain.Optogenetic inhibition of this VPLGlu→S1HLGlucircuit reversed allodynia,whereas the enhancement of its activity provoked hyperalgesia in control mice.In addition,we found that the expression and function of the HCN2(hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel 2) were increased in VPLGluneurons under conditions of chronic pain.Using in vivo calcium imaging,we demonstrated that downregulation of HCN2 channels in the VPLGluneurons abrogated the rise in S1HLGluneuronal activity while alleviating allodynia in mice with chronic pain.With these data,we propose that dysfunction in HCN2 channels in the VPLGlu→S1HLGluthalamocortical circuit and their upregulation occupy essential roles in the development of chronic pain.

RFPose-OT:RF-based 3D human pose estimation via optimal transport theory

This paper introduces a novel framework,i.e.,RFPose-OT,to enable three-dimensional(3D)human pose estimation from radio frequency(RF)signals.Different from existing methods that predict human poses from RF signals at the signal level directly,we consider the structure difference between the RF signals and the human poses,propose a transformation of the RF signals to the pose domain at the feature level based on the optimal transport(OT)theory,and generate human poses from the transformed features.To evaluate RFPose-OT,we build a radio system and a multi-view camera system to acquire the RF signal data and the ground-truth human poses.The experimental results in a basic indoor environment,an occlusion indoor environment,and an outdoor environment demonstrate that RFPose-OT can predict 3D human poses with higher precision than state-of-the-art methods.

Characterization of the microbial community response to replant diseases in peach orchards

This study attempted to monitor the development of microbial communities and reveal the correlation between the soil microbial community and soil nutrient factors over different years following the replanting of peach trees.The replanted soil(RS)and nonreplanted soil(NRS)were collected from peach orchards with different growth years(1,3,5,7,9,11,and 13 years)in the same region.The soil bacterial and fungal community diversities were analyzed by high-throughput sequencing technology.Redundancy analysis(RDA)was used to show the correlation between the soil microbial community and environmental variables.The alpha diversities of the bacterial and fungal communities indicated that RS contained a higher abundance of bacterial and fungal operational taxonomic units(OTUs)than NRS.NMDS and ANOSIM analyses showed that the soil bacterial and fungal communities were significantly(P3.0).In addition,the soil nutrient contents were lower in RS than in NRS in the early stage(1–5 years),and the RDA showed that bacterial and fungal phyla are closely associated with environmental variables,including the potential of hydrogen(pH),ammonium nitrogen(AN),available phosphorus(AP)and available potassium(AK).These results lead to a deeper understanding of the microbial responses to replanting in peach orchards.
