Impact of co-infections with enteric pathogens on children suffering from acute diarrhea in southwest China

Background:Acute diarrhea is a global health problem,resulting in high morbidity and mortality in *** has been suggested that enteric pathogen co-infections play an important role in gastroenteritis,but most research efforts have only focused on a small range of species belonging to a few pathogen *** study aimed to assess the impact of co-infections with a broad range of enteric pathogens on children aged below five years who suffer from acute diarrhea in southwest ***:A total of 1020 subjects(850 diarrhea cases and 170 healthy controls)were selected from four sentinel hospitals in Kunming,Yunnan province,southwest China,from June 2014 to July *** specimens were collected to detect five virus(rotavirus group A,RVA;norovirus,NoV;Sapovirus,SaV;astrovirus,As;and adenovirus,Ad),seven bacterial(diarrheagenic Escherichia coli,DEC;non-typhoidal Salmonella,NTS;Shigella spp.;Vibrio cholera;Vibrio parahaemolyticus;Aeromonas spp.;and Plesiomonas spp.),and three protozoan(Cryptosporidium spp.,Giardia lamblia,and Blastocystis hominis,***)species using standard microbiologic and molecular *** were analyzed using the partial least square regression technique and chi-square ***:At least one enteric pathogen was detected in 46.7%(n=397)of acute gastroenteritis cases and 13.5%(n=23)of healthy controls(χ^(2)=64.4,P<0.05).Single infection with RVA was associated with acute diarrhea(26.5%vs.5.8%,P<0.05).The prevalence of a single infection with *** in diarrhea cases was higher than in healthy controls(3.1%vs.0.5%,OR=4.7,95%CI:1.01–112.0).Single infection with NoV GII was not associated with diarrhea(4.4%vs.3.5%,OR=1.2,95%CI:0.5–3.3).Single infections with bacterial species were not *** prevalence of co-infections with two enteric pathogens in diarrhea cases was higher than in asymptomatic children(20.1%vs.5.3%,P<0.05).RVA-NoV GII was the most common co-infection in symptomatic children(4.4%),with it aggravating the

Background:Interventions are currently being used against‘infectious diseases of poverty’,which remain highly debilitating and deadly in most endemic countries,especially malaria,schistosomiasis,echinococcosis and African sleeping ***,major limitations of current‘traditional’methods for diagnosis are neither simple nor convenient for population surveillance,and showed low sensitivity and *** to novel technologies for the development of adequate and reliable tools are expressly needed.A collaborative project between African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation and partner institutions in Africa and China aims to screen suitable serological biomarkers for diagnostic pipelines against these‘diseases of the poor’.Methods:Parasite-specific exposed versus unexposed individuals were screened and sera or urine/stools were collected through case-control studies in China and African *** genes/open reading frames were selected,then will be cloned and cell-free expressed,quantified and *** antigens/epitopes will be probed and screened with sera from exposed or unexposed individuals using a high-throughput antigen screening platform as the study *** specificity and sensitivity of highly immunoreactive biomarkers will be evaluated as well,using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays or ***:This roadmap explicitly unfolds the integrated operating procedures with focus on malaria and schistosomiasis,for the identification of suitable biomarkers that will aid the prioritization of diagnostics for population ***,there is need to further validate any new diagnostic through comparison with standard methods in field deployable tests for each *** expectations for the future are to seek regulatory approval and promote the use of diagnostics in endemic areas.

Relationship between parenting stress and behavioral and emotional problems in preschool children: A mediation effect analysis

BACKGROUND Emotional reactions,such as anxiety,irritability,and aggressive behavior,have attracted clinical attention as behavioral and emotional problems in preschool-age *** To investigate the current status of family rearing,parental stress,and behavioral and emotional problems of preschool children and to analyze the mediating effect of the current status of family rearing on parental stress and behavioral/emo-tional *** We use convenience sampling to select 258 preschool children in the physical examination center of our hospital from October 2021 to September *** children and their parents were evaluated using a questionnaire ***'s correlation was used to analyze the correlation between child behavioral and emotional problems and parental stress and family rearing,and the structural equation model was constructed to test the mediating *** The score for behavioral/emotional problems of 258 preschool children was(27.54±3.63),the score for parental stress was(87.64±11.34),and the score for parental family rearing was(31.54±5.24).There was a positive correlation between the behavioral and emotional problems of the children and the“hostile/mandatory”parenting style;meanwhile,showed a negative correlation with the“support/participation”parenting style(all P<0.05).The intermediary effect value between the family upbringing of parents in parental stress and children's behavior problems was 29.89%.CONCLUSION Parental family upbringing has a mediating effect between parental stress and behavioral and emotional problems of *** paying attention to the behavioral and emotional problems of preschool-age children,clinical medical staff should provide correct and reasonable parenting advice to their parents to promote the mental health of preschool-age children.

BACKGROUND In recent years,many studies have shown that proteasome 26S subunit non-ATPase 6(PSMD6)plays an important role in the occurrence and development of malignant ***,there are no reports on the evaluation of the potential role of PSMD6 in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM To comprehensively evaluate the overexpression pattern and clinical significance of PSMD6 in HCC *** This study integrated PSMD6 mRNA expression profiles from 4672 HCC and 3667 non-HCC tissues,along with immunohistochemical scores from 383 HCC and adjacent tissues,to assess PSMD6 overexpression in *** regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats knockout technology evaluated PSMD6’s essential role in HCC cell *** enrichment analysis explored the molecular mechanism of PSMD6 abnormalities in *** sensitivity analysis and molecular docking analysed the effect of abnormal expression of PSMD6 on the drug sensitivity of HCC *** The results of 41 external and two internal datasets showed that PSMD6 mRNA(SMD=0.26,95%CI:0.09-0.42,P<0.05)and protein(SMD=2.85,95%CI:1.19-4.50,P<0.05)were significantly overexpressed in HCC *** integrated analysis results showed that PSMD6 had a significant overexpression pattern in HCC tissues(SMD=0.40,95%CI:0.15-0.66,P<0.05).PSMD6 knockout inhibited HCC cell growth(chronos scores<-1).Functional enrichment implicated ribosome biogenesis and RNA *** enrichment of signalling pathways such as RNA degradation,ribosomes,and chemical carcinogenesis—reactive oxygen *** sensitivity analysis and a molecular docking model showed that high expression of PSMD6 was associated with the tolerance of HCC cells to drugs such as ML323,sepantronium bromide,and *** PSMD6 effectively distinguished HCC tissues(AUC=0.75,95%CI:0.71-0.79).CONCLUSION This study was the first to discover that PSMD6 was overexpressed in HCC ***6 is essential for the growth of HCC cell

Friction and wear properties of N+ ion implanted nylon 1010

The PA1010 was implanted with 450 keV N+ ions to three doses of 5× 1014 cm-2 , 2.5× 1015 cm-2 and 1.25 × 1016 cm-2. The friction and wear behaviors of the ion implanted PA1010 disks rubbing with two ceramic (ZrO2 and Si3N4) balls were studied using a pin-on-disk tribometer under dry friction. The results shows that the wear resistance of PA1010 is increased with the increasing implantation doses. The adhesion, plastic deformation and plow groove are wearing mechanisms for un-implanted PA1010, while abrasive wear for implanted PA1010.

Friction and wear properties of ultra-high molecular mass polyethylene reinforced with Al2O3 nano-particle

The ultra-high molecular mass polyethylene (UHMMPE) as an artificial joint acetabular material was filled with nano-powder of Al2O3 of various mass fractions. The effect of Al2O3 mass fraction on the hardness, wetting property and tribological properties of the Al2O3-UHMMPE composites under dry friction sliding against both stainless steel and Ti-6Al-4V alloy was investigated. The morphologies of the worn surfaces of composites were observed with optical microscope. The results show that, wetting property and wear resistance of the composites are improved by filling Al2O3, while the friction coefficient is decreased largely under dry friction as compared with that of the unfilled UHMMPE. This is attributed to the reinforcing function of the nano-powder of Al2O3 in the composites. The wear of UHMMPE is dominated by plowing, plastic deformation and fatigue wear; while the Al2O3-UHMMPE composites are characterized by the mild fatigue wear.

An effective and green H2O2/H2O/O3 oxidation method for carbon nanotube to reinforce epoxy resin

Facile green oxidation methods are always desired to functionalize carbon nanotubes(CNTs)in the production of advanced CNT/epoxy *** the present work,an optimized H2O2/H2O/O3 oxidation method was developed,and performances of the H2O2/H2O/O3 oxidized CNT in epoxy matrix were tested and compared with that of the H2O/O3 oxidized CNT and the most commonly used concentrated HNO3 oxidized *** physical and chemical characteristics of the obtained oxidized CNTs were systematically characterized via transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and *** performances of the obtained composites were explored by tensile tests,impact tests,dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA)and fracture toughness *** was found that the H2O2/H2O/O3 oxidized CNT exhibited all-around overwhelming advantages over the concentrated HNO3 oxidized CNT on reinforcing the epoxy matrix,while the H2O/O3 oxidized CNT only improved the material *** mechanisms for the different methods oxidized CNTs were studied and *** optimized H2O2/H2O/O3 oxidation method makes scaled production possible,avoids environment pollutions,and holds great potentials to replace the most commonly used concentrated HNO3 oxidation method to oxidize CNT during the preparation of the advanced CNT/epoxy composite.
