Development and validation of a prognostic immunoinflammatory index for patients with gastric cancer

Use of Spent Mushroom Substrate as Growing Media for Tomato and Cucumber Seedlings

The aim of this research was to evaluate weathered spent mushroom substrate （SMS）, made from spent Flammulina velutipes mushroom substrate, as a growing medium for nursery seedlings. Two vegetable species, cucumber （Cucumis sativus L. cv. Jinchun No. 2） and tomato （Solanurn lycopersicum L. cv. Mandy）, were grown in 8 media of SMS in various ratios with perlite or vermiculite. A mixed substrate of peat with perlite （1：1; v：v） was used as the control （CK）. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design under greenhouse conditions. Prior to sowing, some physical and chemical properties of the growing media were determined. Results showed that all the mixtures had desirable physical and chemical properties for their use in nursery tomato and cucumber seedlings except for the T4 （SMS：vermiculite = 1：1; v：v） and the T8 （SMS：perlite = 2：1; v：v） mixtures. Compared with the CK, increased plant height, leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight and index of seedling quality were found in the T3 （SMS：vermiculite = 2：1; v：v） and T6 （SMS：perlite = 4：1; v：v） growing media. SMS should be considered as an alternative for the widely used but expensive and resource-limited peat in greenhouse cultivation.

Haplotypes at the 5′-Flanking Region of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor γ Gene and Their Association with the Growth and Body Composition Traits in Chickens

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor g（PPARg） is an important regulator of chicken preadipocyte proliferation and *** this study,polymorphisms were detected by DNA sequencing,PCR-RFLP and some other methods and three polymorphisms（g.-1784_-1768del17,c.-1241GA and c.-75GA） were found in the 5＇ flanking region of PPARg *** and body composition traits were measured in the 8th-10th generation populations of the Northeast Agricultural University broiler lines were divergently selected for abdominal fat *** among individuals were screened in the above *** haplotype-based association analysis on growth and body composition traits was carried *** association analysis showed that haplotypes based on three polymorphisms at 5＇ flanking region of PPARg gene were significantly associated with abdominal fat weight（AFW）,abdominal fat percentage（AFP,AFW/BW7）,liver weight（LW）,liver weight percentage（LFP,LW/BW7）,shank length（ShL）,femur weight（FeW）,keel length（KeL）,and metatarsus circle（MeC）（P0.05） and suggestive significantly associated with pectoralis major weight（PMaW）,pectoralis minor weight（PMiW）,pectoralis minor weight percentage（PMiWP,PMiW/BW7）,and metatarsus length（MeL）（P0.2）.The least square analysis showed that the birds with BGA haplotype had significantly higher AFW and AFP than the birds with other haplotypes（P0.05）.The birds with AAG haplotype had significantly higher LW and LW/BW than the birds with other haplotypes（P0.05）.The birds with AAG haplotype had significantly higher PMiW and PMiW/BW than the birds with other haplotypes（P0.05）.The birds with AAG haplotype had significantly higher ShL,FeW,MeL,MeC and KeL than the birds with AGG haplotypes（P0.05）.The results in this study revealed that QTL affecting fatness traits may exist in 5＇ flanking region of PPARg gene in chickens and PPARg gene might be one of the genes having important influences on the growth and bone traits in chickens.

Differential volatile organic compounds in royal jelly associated with different nectar plants

The aim of this work was to distinguish volatile organic compound（VOC） profiles of royal jelly（RJ） from different nectar plants. Headspace solid-phase microextraction（HS-SPME） was used to extract VOCs from raw RJ harvested from 10 nectar plants in flowering seasons. Qualitative and semi-quantitative analysis of VOCs extracts were performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry（GC-MS）. Results showed that VOC profiles of RJ from the samples were rich in acid, ester and aldehyde compound classes, however, contents of them were differential, exemplified by the data from acetic acid, benzoic acid methyl ester, hexanoic acid and octanoic acid. As a conclusion, these four VOCs can be used for distinguishing RJ harvested in the seasons of different nectar plants.

Influence of Conservation Tillage on Soil Aggregates Features in North China Plain

Tillage greatly influences the aggregation and stability of soil aggregates. This study investigated the effects of conservation tillage on soil aggregate characteristics. During a four-year study period （2001-2005）, soils were sampled from no-tillage （NT）, rotary tillage （RT）, and conventional tillage （moldboard tillage, CT） plots at the Luancheng Agriculture and Ecology Experimental Station in Hebei Province, China, and the amount, size distribution, and fractal dimension of the aggregates were examined by dry and wet sieving methods. The results indicated that NT significantly increased the topsoil （0-5 cm） bulk density （BD）, while RT maintained a lower BD as CT. Dry sieving results showed that NT had higher macro-aggregate content （R0.25）, and a larger mean weight diameter （MWD） and geometric mean diameter （GMD） than other treatments in the 0-10 cm layer, while RT showed no difference from CT. In wet sieving, results showed that most of the aggregates were unstable, and the MWD and GMD of water-table aggregates showed the trend of NT 〉 RT 〉 CT. At 0-5 cm layer, the fractal dimension （D） of water-stable aggregates under NT was lower than it was under RT and CT. At 5-10 cm, RT yielded the highest D, and showed stability. After four years, NT increased the aggregation and the stability of soil aggregates; while due to intense disturbance, the aggregation and stability of the upper layer （0-10 cm） under RT and CT decreased.

The search for new two-dimensional(2 D)harvesting materials that directly convert(waste)heat into electricity has received increasing *** this work,thermoelectric(TE)properties of monolayer square-Au_(2)S are accurately predicted using a parameter-free ab initio Boltzmann transport formalism with fully considering the spin–orbit coupling(SOC),electron–phonon interactions(EPIs),and phonon–phonon *** is found that the square-Au_(2)S monolayer is a promising room-temperature TE material with an n-type(p-type)figure of merit ZT=2.2(1.5)and an unexpected high n-type ZT=3.8 can be obtained at 600 *** excellent TE performance of monolayer square-Au_(2)S can be attributed to the ultralow lattice thermal conductivity originating from the strong anharmonic phonon scattering and high power factor due to the highly dispersive band edges around the Fermi ***,our analyses demonstrate that the explicit treatments of EPIs and SOC are highly important in predicting the TE properties of monolayer square-Au_(2)*** present findings will stimulate further the experimental fabrication of monolayer square-Au_(2)S-based TE materials and offer an in-depth insight into the effect of SOC and EPIs on TE transport properties.

On Fundamental Group of a Certain Class of Welded Knots

In this paper, a certain class of welded knots K;is considered. By calculating the commutators subgroup of fundamental group Gn of welded knot K;,n ∈ Z;, we show that these welded knots are not equivalent to each other and they are all not classical knots. Secondly, we study some properties of Gn and obtain that Gn is linear, residually finite and Hopfian.

Embedding Cartesian Product of Some Graphs in Books

The book embedding of a graph G consists of placing the vertices of G in a line called spine and assigning edges of the graph to pages so that the edges assigned to the same page do not intersect. The number of pages is the minimum number in which the graph can be embedded. In this paper, we study the book embedding of the Cartesian product Pm × Sn, Pm × Wn, Cn × Sm, Cn × Wm, and get an upper bound of their pagenumber.

OBJECTIVE To explore the effects of cisplatin chemotherapy via the vein and the abdominal cavity on the functions of endothelial cells of mice with non-small cell lung cancer. METHODS 75 mice were divided equally into a untreated group, a group treated with chemotherapy （cisplatin： 2 mg/kg, 0.5 mL） via an intravenous method and a group treated with chemotherapy （cisplatin： 2 mg/kg, 0.5 mL） via an intraperitoneal method; changes in the morpholoqy and ultrastructure of vein endothelial cells were observed.

Background： The domestic prevalence of chronic hepatitis B （CHB） in China is 7.18% in 2006, imposing great societal healthcare burdens. Nucleot（s）ide analogues （NUCs） anti-hepatitis B virus （HBV） therapies are widely applied despite the relatively low rate of seroconversion and high risk of drug-resistant mutation. More effective treatments for CHB deserve further explorations. Combined therapy of NUCs plus Chinese herbal medicine （CHM） is widely accepted in China, which is recognized as a prospective alternative approach. The study was primarily designed to confirm the hypothesis that Tiaogan-Yipi Granule （调肝益脾颗粒, TGYP） or Tiaogan-Jianpi-Jiedu Granule （调肝健脾解毒颗粒, TGJPJD） plus entecavir tablet （ETV） was superior over ETV monotherapy in enhancing HBeAg loss rate. Methods： The study was a nationwide, large-scale, multi-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial with a designed duration of 108 weeks. A total of 16 hospitals and 596 eligible Chinese HBeAg positive CHB patients were enrolled from November 2012 to September 2013 and randomly allocated into 2 groups in 1：1 ratio via central randomization system： experimental group （EG） and control group （CG）. Subjects in EG received CM formulae （TGYP or TGJPJD, 50 g per dose, twice daily） plus ETV tablet （or ETV placebo） 0.5 mg per day in the first 24 weeks （stage 1）, and CHM granule plus ETV tablet （0.5 mg per day） from week 25 to 108 （stage 2）. Subjects in CG received CHM Granule placebo plus E＇IV tablet （0.5 mg per day） for 108 weeks throughout the trial. The assessments of primary outcomes （HBV serum markers and HBV-DNA） were conducted by a third-party College of American Pathologists （CAP） qualified laboratory. Adverse effects were observed in the hospitals of recruitment. Discussion： The study was designed to compare the curative effect of CM plus E＇IV and ETV monotherapy in respect of HBeAg loss, which is recognized by the European Association for the Study of the liver as ＂a valuable endpoint＂.
