Defects in the grain interiors of 3 mol%yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal ceramics with 0.25 wt%alumina

The presence of high-density defects is rarely observed in bulk 3 mol%yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal(3Y-TZP)ceramics obtained through conventional pressureless sintering.In the present work,fine-grained dense 147 nm 3Y-TZP ceramics were prepared by pressureless sintering of commercial 0.25 wt%alumina-doped zirconia powders at 1300℃.A novel discovery was reported in which large amounts of defects were present in the grain interiors of the sample.The phenomenon was further examined using three types of powder samples,and the reasons for defect formation were investigated by microstructural characterization using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)analysis and Rietveld refinement.The results confirmed the essential dependence of the defect formation on the alumina addition.The authors attributed the defect formation to the significant difference in ionic radii of the solvent and solute during the dissolution of alumina into the zirconia lattice.The sintering kinetics were proposed to be enhanced by the presence of substantial defects,which consequently favored the low-temperature sintering of the alumina-doped zirconia ceramics.

Mechanisms of hyponatremia and diabetes insipidus after acute spinal cord injury:a critical review

The incidence of hyponatremia after spinal cord injury was reported to be between 25 and 80%.Hyponatremia can lead to a variety of clinical symptoms,from mild to severe and even life-threatening.Hyponatremia is often associated with diabetes insipidus,which refers to insufficient arginine vasopressin(AVP)secretion or defective renal response to AVP,with clinical manifestations of syndromes such as hypoosmolality,polydipsia,and polydipsia.Recent mechanistic studies on hyponatremia and diabetes insipidus after acute spinal cord injury have been performed in isolation,without integrating the above two symptoms into different pathological manifestations that occur in the same injury state and without considering the acute spinal cord injury patient’s condition as a whole.The therapeutic principles of CSWS and SIADH are in opposition to one another.It is not easy to identify the mechanism of hyponatremia in clinical practice,which makes selecting the treatment difficult.According to the existing theories,treatments for hyponatremia and diabetes insipidus together are contraindicated,whether the mechanism of hyponatremia is thought to be CSWS or SIADH.In this paper,we review the mechanism of these two pathological manifestations and suggest that our current understanding of the mechanisms of hyponatremia and diabetes insipidus after high acute cervical SCI is insufficient,and it is likely that there are other undetected pathogenetic mechanisms.

A personalized electronic textile for ultrasensitive pressure sensing enabled by biocompatible MXene/ PEDOT:PSS composite

Flexible,breathable,and highly sensitive pressure sensors have increasingly become a focal point of interest due to their pivotal role in healthcare monitoring,advanced electronic skin applications,and disease diagnosis.However,traditional methods,involving elastomer film-based substrates or encapsulation techniques,often fall short due to mechanical mismatches,discomfort,lack of breathability,and limitations in sensing abilities.Consequently,there is a pressing need,yet it remains a significant challenge to create pressure sensors that are not only highly breathable,flexible,and comfortable but also sensitive,durable,and biocompatible.Herein,we present a biocompatible and breathable fabric-based pressure sensor,using nonwoven fabrics as both the sensing electrode(coated with MXene/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate[PEDOT:PSS])and the interdigitated electrode(printed with MXene pattern)via a scalable spray-coating and screen-coating technique.The resultant device exhibits commendable air permeability,biocompatibility,and pressure sensing performance,including a remarkable sensitivity(754.5 kPa^(−1)),rapid response/recovery time(180/110 ms),and robust cycling stability.Furthermore,the integration of PEDOT:PSS plays a crucial role in protecting the MXene nanosheets from oxidation,significantly enhancing the device's long-term durability.These outstanding features make this sensor highly suitable for applications in fullrange human activities detection and disease diagnosis.Our study underscores the promising future of flexible pressure sensors in the realm of intelligent wearable electronics,setting a new benchmark for the industry.

980 nm Near-Infrared Light-Emitting Diode Using All-Inorganic Perovskite Nanocrystals Doped with Ytterbium Ions

All-inorganic perovskite(CsPbX3)nanocrystals(NCs)have recently been widely investigated as versatile solution-processable light-emitting materials.Due to its wide-bandgap nature,the all-inorganic perovskite NC Light-Emitting Diode(LED)is limited to the visible region(400-700 nm).A particularly difficult challenge lies in the practical application of perovskite NCs in the infrared-spectrum region.In this work,a 980 nm NIR all-inorganic perovskite NC LED is demonstrated,which is based on an efficient energy transfer from wide-bandgap materials(CsPbCl3 NCs)to ytterbium ions(Yb3+)as an NIR emitter doped in perovskite NCs.The optimized CsPbCl3 NC with 15 mol%Yb3+doping concentration has the strongest 980 nm photoluminescence(PL)peak,with a PL quantum yield of 63%.An inverted perovskite NC LED is fabricated with the structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/poly-TPD/CsPbCl3:15 mol%Yb3+NCs/TPBi/LiF/Al.The LED has an External Quantum Efficiency(EQE)of 0.2%,a Full Width at Half Maximum(FWHM)of 47 nm,and a maximum luminescence of 182 cd/m?.The introduction of Yb3+doping in perovskite NCs makes it possible to expand its working wavelength to near-infrared band for next-generation light sources and shows potential applications for optoelectronic integration.

High-speed GeSn resonance cavity enhanced photodetectors for a 50 Gbps Si-based 2 μm band communication system

Expanding the optical communication band is one of the most effective methods of overcoming the nonlinear Shannon capacity limit of single fiber.In this study,GeSn resonance cavity enhanced(RCE)photodetectors(PDs)with an active layer Sn component of 9%–10.8%were designed and fabricated on an SOI substrate.The GeSn RCE PDs present a responsivity of 0.49 A/W at 2μm and a 3-dB bandwidth of approximately 40 GHz at 2μm.Consequently,Si-based 2μm band optical communication with a transmission rate of 50 Gbps was demonstrated by using a GeSn RCE detector.This work demonstrates the considerable potential of the Si-based 2μm band photonics in future high-speed and high-capacity optical communication.

Effect of cytochrome P4502C19(CYP2C19)gene polymorphism and clopidogrel reactivity on long term prognosis of patients with coronary heart disease after PCI

Objective To investigate the impact of CYP2C19 gene polymorphism on clopidogrel reactivity and its association with longterm clinical outcome in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD)undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods In total,675 patients were enrolled.Based on the platelet inhibition rate,patients were categorized into two groups:clopidogrel low responsiveness(CLR)and normal clopidogrel responsiveness(NCR).The CLR group was divided into ticagrelor and clopidogrel group based on the antiplatelet drugs used in the follow-up treatment.Patients were classified into three groups(normal metabolizer,intermediate metabolizer,and poor metabolizer)based on the CYP2C19 genotype.We aimed to evaluate the impact of CYP2C19 gene polymorphism on clopidogrel reactivity.The cumulative rates of 12-month all-cause deaths,major adverse cardiovascular events(MACCEs),and bleeding events were calculated.Results CLR was observed in 44.4%of the overall population.Significant differences were observed in the platelet inhibition rate of clopidogrel among the three metabolic genotypes(P0.05).Conclusions Low response to clopidogrel in CHD patients is correlated with CYP2C19 gene polymorphism.CYP2C19 genotyping combined with platelet reactivity is an independent predictor of 12-months MACCEs in patients with clopidogrel treatment after PCI,which is better than either test alone.

Risk of cardiovascular death in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma based on the Fine-Gray model

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common types of cancers worldwide,ranking fifth among men and seventh among women,resulting in more than 7 million deaths annually.With the development of medical tech-nology,the 5-year survival rate of HCC patients can be increased to 70%.How-ever,HCC patients are often at increased risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD)death due to exposure to potentially cardiotoxic treatments compared with non-HCC patients.Moreover,CVD and cancer have become major disease burdens worldwide.Thus,further research is needed to lessen the risk of CVD death in HCC patient survivors.METHODS This study was conducted on the basis of the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database and included HCC patients with a diagnosis period from 2010 to 2015.The independent risk factors were identified using the Fine-Gray model.A nomograph was constructed to predict the CVM in HCC patients.The nomograph performance was measured using Harrell’s concordance index(C-index),calibration curve,receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve,and area under the ROC curve(AUC)value.Moreover,the net benefit was estimated via decision curve analysis(DCA).RESULTS The study included 21545 HCC patients,of whom 619 died of CVD.Age(5 cm:2.090(1.543-2.830),P<0.001],surgery(no)[0.376(0.297-0.476),P<0.001],and chemotherapy(none/unknown)[0.578(0.472-0.709),P<0.001]were independent risk factors for CVD death in HCC patients.The discrimination and calibration of the nomograph were better.The C-index values for the training and validation sets were 0.736 and 0.665,respectively.The AUC values of the ROC curves at 2,4,and 6 years were 0.702,0.725,0.740 in the training set and 0.697,0.710,0.744 in the validation set,respectively.The calibration curves showed that the predicted probab-ilities of the CVM prediction

Experimental study of solid-liquid origami composite structures with improved impact resistance

In this paper,a liquid-solid origami composite design is proposed for the improvement of impact resistance.Employing this design strategy,Kresling origami composite structures with different fillings were designed and fabricated,namely air,water,and shear thickening fluid(STF).Quasi-static compression and drop-weight impact experiments were carried out to compare and reveal the static and dynamic mechanical behavior of these structures.The results from drop-weight impact experiments demonstrated that the solid-liquid Kresling origami composite structures exhibited superior yield strength and reduced peak force when compared to their empty counterparts.Notably,the Kresling origami structures filled with STF exhibited significantly heightened yield strength and reduced peak force.For example,at an impact velocity of 3 m/s,the yield strength of single-layer STF-filled Kresling origami structures increased by 772.7%and the peak force decreased by 68.6%.This liquid-solid origami composite design holds the potential to advance the application of origami structures in critical areas such as aerospace,intelligent protection and other important fields.The demonstrated improvements in impact resistance underscore the practical viability of this approach in enhancing structural performance for a range of applications.

Two-step growth of β-Ga_(2)O_(3) on c-plane sapphire using MOCVD for solar-blind photodetector

In this work,a two-step metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD)method was applied for growingβ-Ga_(2)O_(3) film on c-plane sapphire.Optimized buffer layer growth temperature(T_(B))was found at 700℃ and theβ-Ga_(2)O_(3) film with full width at half maximum(FWHM)of 0.66°was achieved.A metal−semiconductor−metal(MSM)solar-blind photodetector(PD)was fabricated based on theβ-Ga_(2)O_(3) film.Ultrahigh responsivity of 1422 A/W@254 nm and photo-to-dark current ratio(PDCR)of 10^(6) at 10 V bias were obtained.The detectivity of 2.5×10^(15) Jones proved that the photodetector has outstanding performance in detecting weak signals.Moreover,the photodetector exhibited superior wavelength selectivity with rejection ratio(R_(250 nm)/R_(400 nm))of 105.These results indicate that the two-step method is a promising approach for preparation of high-qualityβ-Ga_(2)O_(3)films for high-performance solar-blind photodetectors.

Weakly Polarized Organic Cation-Modified Hydrated Vanadium Oxides for High-Energy Efficiency Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Vanadium oxides,par-ticularly hydrated forms like V_(2)O_(5)·nH_(2)O(VOH),stand out as promising cathode candidates for aqueous zinc ion batteries due to their adjustable layered structure,unique electronic characteristics,and high theoretical capacities.However,challenges such as vanadium dissolution,sluggish Zn^(2+)diffusion kinetics,and low operating voltage still hinder their direct application.In this study,we present a novel vanadium oxide([C_(6)H_(6)N(CH_(3))_(3)]_(1.08)V_(8)O_(20)·0.06H_(2)O,TMPA-VOH),developed by pre-inserting trimethylphenylammonium(TMPA+)cations into VOH.The incorporation of weakly polarized organic cations capitalizes on both ionic pre-intercalation and molecular pre-intercalation effects,resulting in a phase and morphology transition,an expansion of the interlayer distance,extrusion of weakly bonded interlayer water,and a substantial increase in V^(4+)content.These modifications synergistically reduce the electrostatic interactions between Zn^(2+)and the V-O lattice,enhancing structural stability and reaction kinetics during cycling.As a result,TMPA-VOH achieves an elevated open circuit voltage and operation voltage,exhibits a large specific capacity(451 mAh g^(-1)at 0.1 A g^(-1))coupled with high energy efficiency(89%),the significantly-reduced battery polarization,and outstanding rate capability and cycling stability.The concept introduced in this study holds great promise for the development of high-performance oxide-based energy storage materials.
