Combined laparoscopic-endoscopic approach for gastric glomus tumor:A case report

BACKGROUND Gastric glomus tumor(GGT)is rare submucosal mesenchymal tumor that lacks specific clinical manifestations and is usually treated mainly by traditional surgical resection.This paper presents a case of a GGT,exhibited both intraluminally and extraluminally growth that was removed by laparoscopy-gastroscopy cooperative surgery.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old male presented with epigastric discomfort accompanied by a sense of fullness for 3 mo.Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy identified a submucosal lump located in the gastric antrum.Endoscopic ultrasonography identified a 2.4 cm×1.8 cm lump located in the gastric antrum.It originated from the muscularis propria and exhibited both intraluminally and extraluminally growth,with hypoechoicity on the periphery,hyperechoicity in the middle,and unclear boundaries.Computed tomography showed nodular thickening of 3.0 cm×2.2 cm in the gastric wall of the gastric antrum,and after enhancement,the lesion exhibited obvious enhancement We suspected that it was a gastrointestinal stromal tumor(glomus tumor and schwannoma were not excluded)and planned to perform laparoscopy-gastroscopy cooperative surgery.Immunohistochemical staining after the operation revealed that spinal muscular atrophy(+),hcaldesmon(+),cluster of differentiation 34(CD34)(+),2%Ki-67-positive rate,CD56,melanoma antigen,CD117,discovered on GIST-1,leukocyte common antigen,caudal type homeobox 2,cytokeratin,and S-100 were all negative.The tumor was finally diagnosed as a GGT.CONCLUSION GGTs are rare submucosal tumors of the stomach and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of gastric submucosal tumors.Laparoscopy-gastroscopy cooperative surgery is less invasive and more precise and could be an effective method for the treatment of GGTs.

Terahertz(THz)waves show great potential in nondestructive testing,biodetection and cancer imaging.Despite recent progress in THz wave near-field probes/apertures enabling raster scanning of an object’s surface,an efficient,nonscanning,noninvasive,deep subdiffraction imaging technique remains challenging.Here,we demonstrate THz near-field microscopy using a reconfigurable spintronic THz emitter array(STEA)based on the computational ghost imaging principle.By illuminating an object with the reconfigurable STEA followed by computing the correlation,we can reconstruct an image of the object with deep subdiffraction resolution.By applying an external magnetic field,inline polarization rotation of the THz wave is realized,making the fused image contrast polarization-free.Time-of-flight(TOF)measurements of coherent THz pulses further enable objects at different distances or depths to be resolved.The demonstrated ghost spintronic THz-emitter-array microscope(GHOSTEAM)is a radically novel imaging tool for THz near-field imaging,opening paradigm-shifting opportunities for nonintrusive label-free bioimaging in a broadband frequency range from 0.1 to 30 THz(namely,3.3-1000 cm^(−1)).

There is still a lack of high-performance terahertz(THz) modulators with wide operation bandwidth and large modulation depth due to the underlying physics limitation behind existing approaches. Meanwhile, for many applications, simple compact THz modulators working straightforward in the transmission mode are also highly desired. Here, we demonstrate a THz modulator with a maximal transmission-amplitude modulation depth of 99.9%(switching ratio of 1000) based on a commonly used silica-on-silicon structure. Different from those reported graphene or metamaterials enhanced proposals, the device we proposed works within a reversible avalanche breakdown region of silicon that has not been studied yet and has the potential to modulate/switch THz waves efficiently. Further, we proved that the modulation depth exceeds 97% in the frequency range from 0.2 to 1 THz in the experiment. The simplicity and generality of this new type of near-perfect THz modulator will undoubtedly attract lots of attention of researchers in the near future due to its potential to be engineered into integrated devices.

High quality repair of osteochondral defects in rats using the extracellular matrix of antler stem cells

BACKGROUND Cartilage defects are some of the most common causes of arthritis.Cartilage lesions caused by inflammation,trauma or degenerative disease normally result in osteochondral defects.Previous studies have shown that decellularized extracellular matrix(ECM)derived from autologous,allogenic,or xenogeneic mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)can effectively restore osteochondral integrity.AIM To determine whether the decellularized ECM of antler reserve mesenchymal cells(RMCs),a xenogeneic material from antler stem cells,is superior to the currently available treatments for osteochondral defects.METHODS We isolated the RMCs from a 60-d-old sika deer antler and cultured them in vitro to 70%confluence;50 mg/mL L-ascorbic acid was then added to the medium to stimulate ECM deposition.Decellularized sheets of adipocyte-derived MSCs(aMSCs)and antlerogenic periosteal cells(another type of antler stem cells)were used as the controls.Three weeks after ascorbic acid stimulation,the ECM sheets were harvested and applied to the osteochondral defects in rat knee joints.RESULTS The defects were successfully repaired by applying the ECM-sheets.The highest quality of repair was achieved in the RMC-ECM group both in vitro(including cell attachment and proliferation),and in vivo(including the simultaneous regeneration of well-vascularized subchondral bone and avascular articular hyaline cartilage integrated with surrounding native tissues).Notably,the antler-stem-cell-derived ECM(xenogeneic)performed better than the aMSC-ECM(allogenic),while the ECM of the active antler stem cells was superior to that of the quiescent antler stem cells.CONCLUSION Decellularized xenogeneic ECM derived from the antler stem cell,particularly the active form(RMC-ECM),can achieve high quality repair/reconstruction of osteochondral defects,suggesting that selection of decellularized ECM for such repair should be focused more on bioactivity rather than kinship.

A growing number of studies have demonstrated that repeated exposure to sevoflurane during development results in persistent social abnormalities and cognitive impairment.Davunetide,an active fragment of the activity-dependent neuroprotective protein(ADNP),has been implicated in social and cognitive protection.However,the potential of davunetide to attenuate social deficits following sevoflurane exposure and the underlying developmental mechanisms remain poorly understood.In this study,ribosome and proteome profiles were analyzed to investigate the molecular basis of sevoflurane-induced social deficits in neonatal mice.The neuropathological basis was also explored using Golgi staining,morphological analysis,western blotting,electrophysiological analysis,and behavioral analysis.Results indicated that ADNP was significantly down-regulated following developmental exposure to sevoflurane.In adulthood,anterior cingulate cortex(ACC)neurons exposed to sevoflurane exhibited a decrease in dendrite number,total dendrite length,and spine density.Furthermore,the expression levels of Homer,PSD95,synaptophysin,and vglut2 were significantly reduced in the sevoflurane group.Patch-clamp recordings indicated reductions in both the frequency and amplitude of miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents(mEPSCs).Notably,davunetide significantly ameliorated the synaptic defects,social behavior deficits,and cognitive impairments induced by sevoflurane.Mechanistic analysis revealed that loss of ADNP led to dysregulation of Ca^(2+)activity via the Wnt/β-catenin signaling,resulting in decreased expression of synaptic proteins.Suppression of Wnt signaling was restored in the davunetide-treated group.Thus,ADNP was identified as a promising therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of neurodevelopmental toxicity caused by general anesthetics.This study provides important insights into the mechanisms underlying social and cognitive disturbances caused by sevoflurane exposure in neonatal mice and elucidates the regulatory pathways invo

Measurement,Modelling and Analysis of Residence Time Distribution Characteristics in a Continuous Hydrothermal Reactor

Understanding the residence time distribution(RTD) of a continuous hydrothermal reactor is of great significance to improve product quality and reaction efficiency.In this work,an on-line measurement system is attached to a continuous reactor to investigate the characteristics of RTD.An approach that can accurately fit and describe the experimental measured RTD curve by finding characteristic values is proposed for analysis and comparison.The RTD curves of three experiment groups are measured and the characteristic values are calculated.Results show that increasing total flow rate and extending effective reactor length have inverse effect on average residence time,but they both cause the reactor to approach a plug flow reactor and improve the materials leading.The branch flow rate fraction has no significant effect on RTD characteristics in the scope of the present work except the weak negative correlation with the average residence time.Besides,the natural convection stirring effect can also increase the average residence time,especially when the forced flow is weak.The analysis reveals that it is necessary to consider the matching of natural convection,forced flow and reactor size to control RTD when designing the hydrothermal reactor and working conditions.

A strategy to synthesize phosphorus-containing nickel phyllosilicate whiskers to enhance the flame retardancy of epoxy composites with excellent mechanical and dry-friction properties

To enhance the fire safety and wear resistance of epoxy,phosphorus-containing nickel phyllosilicate whiskers(FP-NiPS)were synthesized using a facile hydrothermal technology,with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene as the organic modifier.The impacts of FP-NiPS on the thermal stability,flame retardancy,and mechanical and tribological properties of EP composites were explored.The findings demonstrated that 5 wt%FP-NiPS elevated the limiting oxygen index of the EP composite from 23.8%to 28.4%,achieving a V-0 rating during vertical burning tests.FP-NiPS could enhance the thermal stability of epoxy resin(EP)and facilitate the development of a dense and continuous carbon layer,thereby significantly improving the fire safety of the EP composites.The FP-NiPS led to an 8.2%increase in the tensile strength and a 38.8%increase in the elastic modulus of the EP composite,showing outstanding mechanical properties.Furthermore,FP-NiPS showed remarkable potential in enhancing the wear resistance of EP.The wear rate of 1 wt%FP-NiPS is 2.34×10^(−5) mm^(3)·N^(−1)·m^(−1),a decrease of 66.7%compared to EP.This work provides a novel promising modification method to enhance the fire safety,mechanical and wear resistance properties of EP.

Observation of regular pulse train in a narrow-band optoelectronic oscillator

We have experimentally observed a new operating state of a regular pulse train in a narrow-band optoelectronic oscillator(OEO) system, where the direct-current(DC) bias of the Mach-Zehnder modulator is set at the maximum value of the transmission transfer function instead of the usual quadrature point. The observed quasi-steady-state pulse train is distinctly periodic, with a period of 10.5 μs and a center frequency of 10 GHz, and resembles a mode-locked OEO in its waveform. The formation of regular pulses here may arise from the dynamic balance of nonlinearity and narrow-band filter effects, with the transient characteristics of the pulses arising mainly from instabilities between the gain and cavity loss. Our results are of great importance for deepening the understanding of the nonlinear dynamical processes in OEO systems.

Pre-Cryogenian integrative stratigraphy,biotas,and paleogeographical evolution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas

The composition and geological evolution of pre-Cryogenian material in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas have played an important role in studying the formation and evolution of early supercontinents on Earth.This paper systematically summarizes the characteristics of pre-Cryogenian sedimentation,paleontology,magmatism,and metamorphism in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas.Based on existing data,the records of pre-Cryogenian sedimentation and paleontology are mainly concentrated in the Meso-Neoproterozoic,with relatively few records from the Paleoproterozoic or earlier.The oldest geological record is the Hadean detrital zircons in the metamorphosed sedimentary rocks of the Himalaya and Qamdo areas(ca.4.0 Ga).The Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas preserve records related to the formation and evolution of the Kenor supercraton,and the Columbia,Rodinia,and Gondwana supercontinents.Pre-Cryogenian basements can be divided into three types:Tarim-,Yangtze-,and Lhasa-type.The Tarim-type basement has a paleogeographic affinity with the northern margins of the Australian and Indian continents and lacks detrital zircon age peaks and magmatic-metamorphic records related to the Rodinia assembly(ca.1.3-0.9 Ga).The Yangtze-type basement records volcanic activity related to global cooling in the latest pre-Cryogenian period and contains Meso-Neoproterozoic stromatolite and micropaleoflora fossils,as well as magmaticmetamorphic records related to Rodinia assembly(ca.1.1-1.0 Ga).The Lhasa-type basement is characterized by Neoproterozoic rift-related sediment records(ca.900 Ma)and high-pressure metamorphic events(ca.650 Ma),with a prominent peak of detrital zircon ages of ca.1.2-1.1 Ga.It is likely to have a paleogeographic affinity with the African continent.
