We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

The introduction of materials with dual-functionalities,i.e.,the catalytic(adsorption)features to inhibit shuttle effects at the cathode side,and the capability to facilitate homogenous Li-ion fluxes at the anode side,is a promising strategy to realize high performance lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs).Herein,a facile and rational organic“ligand-induced”(trimesic acid(Tma))transformation tactic is proposed,which achieves the regulation of electronic performance and d-band center of bimetallic oxides(NiFe_(2)O_(4))to promote bidirectional sulfur conversion kinetics and stabilize the Li plating/striping during the charge/discharge *** battery assembled with NiFe_(2)O_(4)-Tma modified separator exhibits a remarkable initial specific capacity of 1476.6 mah·g^(-1)at 0.1 C,outstanding rate properties(661.1 mah·g^(-1)at 8.0 C),and excellent cycling ***“ligand-induced”transformation tactic proposed in this work will open a whole new possibility for tuning the electronic structure and d-band center to enhance the performance of LSBs.

Engineering the desired dual metal sites to realize C-C coupling of CO2is of great importance for the practical applications of CO2electroreduction reaction（CER）.Herein,an efficient strategy for constructing heterogeneous Ptδ+-Cuδ+dual sites to strengthen the generation and coupling of*CO and*CHO（or*COH）during CER process is presented in this *** radiilarger Pt not only stabilizes the Cuδ+ut also induces a tensile strain in Ptδ+-Cuδ+dual *** obtained Ptδ+-Cuδ+dual sites achieve a total Faradaic efficiency and current density of C2products with 70.9% and586.9 ma·cm-2at-1.20 V（***）,which is higher than that of Cuδ+single site(55.4%,286.9 ma·cm-2).The in situ attenuated total reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy（ATR-SEIRAS） reveals that the Ptδ+-Cuδ+dual sites can promote the generation of C1intermediates（such as*CO,*COOH,*COH,and*CHO）and C-C *** in situ surface-enhanced Raman spectra demonstrate that Ptδ+Cuδ+dual sites can induce the generation of the high-frequency peak for*COatop,thus accelerating the C-C *** work provides a promising avenue for stabilizing and enhancing the performance of Cuδ+sites toward CER.

AIM： To evaluate the risk of esophagectomy for carcinoma of the esophagus in the elderly （70 years or more） compared with younger patients （〈70 years） and to determine whether the short-term outcomes of esophagectomy in the elderly have improved in recent years. METHODS： Preoperative risks, postoperative morbidity and mortality in 60 elderly patients （≥70 years） with esophagectomy for carcinoma of the esophagus were compared with the findings in 1 782 younger patients （〈70 years） with esophagectomy between 3anuary 1990 and December 2004. Changes in perioperative outcome and short-time survival in elderly patients between 1990 to 1997 and 1998 to 2004 were separately analyzed. RESULTS： Preoperatively, there were significantly more patients with hypertension, pulmonary dysfunction, cardiac disease, and diabetes mellitus in the elderly patients as compared with the younger patients. No significant difference was found regarding the operation time, blood loss, organs in reconstruction and anastomotic site between the two groups, but elderly patients were more often to receive blood transfusion than younger patients. Significantly more transhiatal and fewer transthoracic esophagectomies were performed in the elderly patients as compared with the younger patients. Resection was considered curative in 71.66% （43/60） elderly and 64.92% （1 157/1 782） younger patients, which was not statistically significant （P〉0.05）. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of surgical complications between the two groups. Postoperative cardiopulmonary medical complications were encountered more frequently in elderly patients. The hospital mortality rate was 3.3% （2/60） for elderly patients and 1.1% （19/1 782） for younger patients without a significant difference. Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) development among hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) carriers shows gender disparity, influenced by underlying liver diseases that display variations in laboratory tests. We aimed to construct a risk-stratified HCC prediction model for HBs Ag-positive male ***: HBs Ag-positive males of 35-69 years old(N=6,153) were included from a multi-center populationbased liver cancer screening study. Randomly, three centers were set as training, the other three centers as validation. Within 2 years since initiation, we administrated at least two rounds of HCC screening using Bultrasonography and α-fetoprotein(AFP). We used logistic regression models to determine potential risk factors,built and examined the operating characteristics of a point-based algorithm for HCC risk ***: With 2 years of follow-up, 302 HCC cases were diagnosed. A male-ABCD algorithm was constructed including participant's age, blood levels of GGT(γ-glutamyl-transpeptidase), counts of platelets, white cells,concentration of DCP(des-γ-carboxy-prothrombin) and AFP, with scores ranging from 0 to 18.3. The area under receiver operating characteristic was 0.91(0.90-0.93), larger than existing models. At 1.5 points of risk score,26.10% of the participants in training cohort and 14.94% in validation cohort were recognized at low risk, with sensitivity of identifying HCC remained 100%. At 2.5 points, 46.51% of the participants in training cohort and 33.68% in validation cohort were recognized at low risk with 99.06% and 97.78% of sensitivity, respectively. At 4.5 points, only 20.86% of participants in training cohort and 23.73% in validation cohort were recognized at high risk,with positive prediction value of 22.85% and 12.35%, ***: male-ABCD algorithm identified individual's risk for HCC occurrence within short term for their HCC precision surveillance.

Perovskite-type mixed protonic-electronic conducting membranes have attracted attention because of their ability to separate and purify hydrogen from a mixture of gases generated by industrial-scale steam reforming based on an ion diffusion *** cost-effective membrane materials that can achieve both high H_(2) permeability and strong CO_(2)-tolerant chemical stability has been a major challenge for industrial ***,we constructed a triple phase(ceramic-metal-ceramic)membrane composed of a perovskite ceramic phase BaZr_(0.1)Ce_(0.7)Y_(0.1)Yb_(0.1)O_(3-δ)(BZCYYb),Ni metal phase and a fluorite ceramic phase CeO_(2).Under H_(2) atmosphere,Ni metal in-situ exsolved from the oxide grains,and decorated the grain surface and boundary,thus the electronic conductivity and hydrogen separation performance can be *** BZCYYbNi-CeO_(2)hybrid membrane achieved an exceptional hydrogen separation performance of 0.53 mL min^(-1)cm^(-2) at 800℃ under a 10 vol% H_(2) atmosphere,surpassing all other perovskite membranes reported to ***,the CeO_(2) phase incorporated into the BZCYYb-Ni effectively improved the CO_(2)-tolerant chemical *** BZCYYbNi-CeO_(2) membrane exhibited outstanding long-term stability for at least 80 h at 700℃ under 10 vol%CO_(2)-10 vol%H_(2).The success of hybrid membrane construction creates a new direction for simultaneously improving their hydrogen separation performance and CO_(2) resistance stability.
