Modelling Spiking Neural Network from the Architecture Evaluation Perspective

The brain-inspired spiking neural network （SNN） computing paradigm offers the potential for low-power and scalable computing, suited to many intelligent tasks that conventional computational systems find difficult. On the other hand, NoC （network-on-chips） based very large scale integration （VLSI） systems have been widely used to mimic neuro- biological architectures （including SNNs）. This paper proposes an evaluation methodology for SNN applications from the aspect of micro-architecture. First, we extract accurate SNN models from existing simulators of neural systems, second, a cycle-accurate NoC simulator is implemented to execute the aforementioned SNN applications to get timing and energy-consumption information. We believe this method not only benefits the exploration of NoC design space but also bridges the gap between applications （especially those from the neuroscientists＇ community） and neuromorphic hardware. Based on the method, we have evaluated some typical SNNs in terms of timing and energy. The method is valuable for the development of neuromorphic hardware and applications.

Objective： To develop a health-evaluating scale from a Chinese medicine（CM） perspective and reflecting CM conception of health. Methods： The Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Self-Evaluation Scale（TCM-50） was developed by verification of dimensions, formation of item pool, verification of scoring methodology, and pilot test of scale and item analysis. Results： TCM-50 composed of 50 items that could be classified into 4 dimensions including physiology and health, psychology and health, nature and health, and society and health. An examination of reliability and validity of TCM-50 yielded Cronbach＇s α coefficient of 0.927, and half coefficient of r was 0.876. The intraclass correlation coefficient of total score was 0.912. After using SF-36 questionnaire to evaluate the criterion validity, the Pearson r of the score of the two scales from the same participant was 0.740. Conclusions： TCM-50 has good reliability and validity, and can yield similar levels of efficacy as SF-36 in terms of evaluating people＇s overall health level. As a scale based on CM theory, TCM-50 is suitable for self-measuring the general health of Chinese patients.

A variety of hematite microstructures are synthesized through oxalic acid-assisted thermal treatment of iron films sputtered onto glass ***-likeα-Fe_(2)O_(3)nanoslices and honeycomb-likeα-Fe_(2)O_(3)particles of micrometer sizes are obtained after annealing at 500℃but with different rates of heating to the final annealing *** and morphologies of the samples are studied by means of x-ray diffraction,scanningelectron microscopy and atomic force *** structures are believed to be formed during the period of increasing temperature to the final annealing ***-quantum-interference-device magnetometer measurements show room-temperature ferromagnetism in these samples.

In situ mRNA hybridization(ISH)is a powerful tool for examining the spatiotemporal expression of genes in shoot apical meristems and flower buds of *** most common ISH protocol uses paraffin wax;however,embedding tissue in paraffin wax can take a long time and might result in RNA degradation and decreased ***,we developed an optimized protocol to simplify the process and improve RNA *** combined embedding tissue in low melting-point Steedman’s wax with processing tissue sections in solution,as in the whole-mount ISH method in the optimized *** the optimized protocol,we examined the expression patterns of the CLAVATA3(CLV3)and WUSCHEL(WUS)genes in shoot apical meristems and floral meristems of Cucumis sativus(cucumber)and Arabidopsis thaliana(Arabidopsis).The optimized protocol saved 4–5 days of experimental period compared with the standard ISH protocol using paraffin ***,the optimized protocol achieved high signal *** optimized protocol was successful for both cucumber and Arabidopsis,which indicates it might have general applicability to most plants.

Synthesis of Mesoporous Cu-Mn-Al_2O_3 Materials and Their Applications to Preferential Catalytic Oxidation of CO in a Hydrogen-rich Stream

A series of mesoporous Cu-Mn-Al2O3（CMA） materials was synthesized at moderate temperature and their structures were characterized by XRD, N2 physical adsorption and TPR techniques. It was found that using metal complex ion[Cu（NH3） 4^2＋-Mn（NH3）6^2＋] as raw materials is easier to form good-structure mesoporous Cu-Mn-Al2O3 materials than using its nitrate salt [Cu（NO3）2-Mn（NO3）2]. The TPR tests results indicate that CuO and MnOx were homogeneously dispersed in the mesoporous materials. Their catalytic application to preferential catalytic oxidation of CO in a hydrogen-rich stream was studied. The activity varies in the order of CMA（1：1, molar ratio）〉 CMA（1：2）〉CMA（2：1）〉CMA（CP）〉CMA（1：0）≈CMA（0：1）. The CMA（1：0） and CMA（0：1） have lower activity compared to other samples, implying that there existed coordination effect between Cu-Mn in the samples. The selectivity varied in the order of CMA（0：1）≥CMA（1：2）〉CMA（1：1）〉CMA（2：1）〉CMA（1：0） at higher temperature （≥ 120 ℃）, indicating that increasing the Cu content enhanced the conversion of H2. The sample CMA（CP） made by coprecipitation method has a lower CO oxidation activity and selectivity than its counter-parts of mesoporous Cu-Mn-Al2O3 materials[CMA（1：2）], this attributed to the lower surface area of the former and poor interaction of CuO with MnOx.

Sustainable potassium （K） management at different soil sites requires understanding the relationships between crop productivity and long-term K fertilizations on a regional or national scale. We analyzed responses of grain yield of wheat （Triticum aestivurn L.） and maize （Zea mays L.）, K efficiency, and partial balance （difference between K input through fertilizer and K output in the aboveground biomass） during 15- （1990-2005） or 18-year （1990-2008） K fertilizations at five distinctive agroecologicai zones across China. Compared to the inorganic nitrogen （N） and phosphorus （P） fertilization, the inorganic NPK fertilization significantly increased grain yields of wheat （21%） and maize （16% 72%） at Qiyang and Changping, where soils have low exchangeable and non-exchangeable K contents, but not at Uriimqi, Yangling and Zhengzhou, where soils have a high exchangeable and non-exchangeable K and/or low N/K ratio in crop plants. Compared to the inorganic NPK fertilization, the inorganic NPK （30% N） and organic manure （70~~ N） fertilization （NPKM） increased grain yields of wheat （14%-40%） and maize （9%-6170） at four sites, but not at Zhengzhou. For a productivity of wheat at 2-5 t ha-1 or maize at 3-6 t ha 1, 13-26 or 9-17 kg K ha 1 were required to produce 1.0 t wheat or maize. The NP fertilization resulted in the lowest negative partial K balance and accumulated 52 kg K ha-1 year-1 less than the NPK fertilization, which accumulated 28 kg ha 1 year-1 less K than the NPKM fertilization. A re-evaluation of the site-specific fertilization effects on N/K ratio in crop plants and soil K accumulation under current NPK and NPKM t＇ertilization is urgently needed to increase both crop yield and K use efficiency at different agroecologicai zones across China.

Catalysts for Hydration of Cyclohexene to Cyclohexanol

The hydration of cyclohexene was determined in a stirred tank of 100 mL in a batch mode in the presence of modified or unmodified resin as catalyst. The ion-exchange sulfonate resin was modified with alkyl secondary amine. At an optimum amination rate of 15%, the conversion of cyclohexene reached to 22% and the selectivity of cyclohexanol was 95.6%. In a temperature range of 90--150℃, the activity and selectivity of the modified resin ca- talyst were much higher than those of the unmodified resin catalyst, which was attributed to the inclusion formed between cyclohexene and alkyl chain and also the quasi-lipophilic phase formed around the outer surface of resin beads. The formed quasi-lipophilic phase formed enhanced the conversion of cyclohexene and depressed the forma- tion of by-products.

Comparison of carbon sequestration efficiency in soil aggregates between upland and paddy soils in a red soil region of China

There is limited information on carbon sequestration efficiency(CSE)of soil aggregates in upland and paddy soils under long-term fertilization *** a red soil region of southern China,an upland soil experiment started in 1986 and a paddy soil experiment commenced in *** experiments were conducted using different fertilization *** 30 years,soil organic carbon(SOC)content and stock of different aggregate components were *** results showed that the SOC contents and stocks in upland soil were lower than in paddy *** both upland and paddy soils,the SOC contents and stocks of all aggregate components in NPKM(combined treatment with chemical nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P),potassium(K)fertilizers and manure)were the highest among all *** with CK(no fertilizer),SOC content of all aggregate components in NPKM was increased by 13.21–63.11%and 19.13–73.33%in upland and paddy soils,***,the change rates in SOC stock of all aggregate components in upland soil were lower than in paddy soil,although the change rate of SOC stock of all aggregate components in NPKM was higher than in other ***,a linear equation could fit the relationships between carbon(C)input and change rate of SOC stock(P<0.05).Results indicated that the sum of CSE from all aggregate components in upland soil(16.02%)was higher than that of paddy soil(15.12%)in the same climatic condition and from the same parent ***,the CSEs from all aggregates were higher than that of bulk soil,although the result from bulk soil also showed that the CSE of upland soil was higher than that of paddy soil.
