Enhancement of radiosensitivity of MCF-7 breast cancer cells subjected to X-ray or carbon-ion irradiations

The sensitivity of cancer cells to radiation therapy varies based on cell cycle phase. Here we evaluated the differences between X-ray and carbon-ion irradiation with respect to cellular radiosensitivity and cancer cycle arrest in the breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. The cell survival rate, cell cycle distribution and the presence of apoptosis were measured by clonogenic assay and flow cytometry. BRCA1 and p21 protein levels were analyzed by Western blot, and the levels of human telomerase reverse transcriptase(h TERT) m RNA expression and telomere length were detected with real-time polymerase chain reaction. The results show a significant dose-dependent effects on survival rate, apoptosis and protein levels in the carbon-ion group of MCF-7 cells. Decreased proliferation was not observed at 2 Gy X-ray irradiation. There were significant differences in cellular cycle arrest, apoptosis percentages and BRCA1 and p21 protein expression between X-ray and heavy-ion groups. The results indicatedthat increasing in BRCA1 and p21 expression, and attenuation of h TERT gene expression induced by heavy-ion irradiation in MCF-7 cells might relate to mechanism of cellular radiosensitivity in G2/M arrested phase.

In autoparasitoids, females are generally primary endoparasitoids of Hemiptera, while males are hyperparasitoids developing in or on conspecific females or other primary parasitoids. Female-host acceptance can be influenced by extrinsic and/or intrinsic factors. In this paper, we are concerned with intrinsic factors such as nutritional status, mating status, etc. We observed the behavior of Encarsia pergandiella Howard （Hymenoptera： Aphelinidae） females when parasitizing primary （3rd instar larvae ofBemisia tabaci Gen- nadius [Homoptera： Aleyrodidae]） and secondary hosts （3rd instar larvae and pupae of Eretmocerus rnundus Mercet [Hymenoptera： Aphelinidae]） for a period of 1 h. Females had different reproductive （virgin or mated younger） and physiological （fed elder or mated elder） status. Virgin females killed a large number of secondary hosts while investing a long time per host. However, they did not feed upon them. Mated females killed a lower number of secondary hosts and host feeding was observed in both consuming primary and secondary hosts. It was common to observe host examining females of all physiological statues tested repeatedly stinging the same hosts when parasitizing, killing or rejecting them. Fed elder females parasitized more B. tabaci larvae than E. mundus larvae or pupae, while investing less time on the primary host than on the secondary host. They also para- sitized more B. tabaci larvae than mated elder females, while investing less time per host. The access of females to honey allowed them to lay more eggs.

In maize breeding,limitations on sampling quantity and associated costs for measuring maize grain moisture during filling are imposed by factors like the planting area of new varieties,maize plant density,effective experimental spikes,and other ***,the conventional method of detecting moisture content in maize grains is slow,damages seeds,and necessitates many sample sets,particularly for high moisture content ***,a strong demand exists for a non-destructive quantitative analysis model of maize moisture content using a small sample set during grain *** Bayes-Merged-Bootstrap(BMB)sample optimization method,which built upon the Bayes-Bootstrap sampling method and the concept of merging,was proposed.A critical concern in dealing with small samples is the relationship between data distribution,minimum sample value,and sample size,which has been thoroughly *** to the Bayes-Bootstrap sample selection method,the BMB method offers distinct advantages in the optimized selection of small samples for non-destructive *** quantitative analysis model for maize grain moisture content was established based on the support vector machine *** demonstrate that when the optimal resampling size is 1000 times or more than the original sample size using the BMB method,the model exhibits strong predictive capabilities,with a determination coefficient(R2)>0.989 and a relative prediction determination(RPD)>*** results of the 3 varieties experiment demonstrate the generality of the ***,it can be applied effectively in practical maize breeding and determining grain moisture content during maize machine harvesting.

Interstitial lung and liver disease(ILLD) is caused by biallelic mutations in the methionyl-tRNA synthetase(MARS) gene. To date, no genetic changes other than missense variants were reported in the literature. Here, we report a five-month old female infant with typical ILLD(failure to thrive, developmental delay, jaundice, diffuse interstitial lung disease, hepatomegaly with severe steatosis, anemia, and thrombocytosis) showing novel phenotypes such as kidney stones, acetabular dysplasia, prolonged fever, and extreme leukocytosis. Whole exome sequencing revealed a novel truncating variant(c.2158 C>T/***720 Stop) together with a novel tri-nucleotide insertion(c.893_894 insTCG that caused the insertion of an arginine at amino acid position 299) in the MARS gene.

This study proposes a novel dual S-shaped logistic model for automatically quantifying the characteristic kinetic curves of breast lesions and for distinguishing malignant from benign breast tumors on dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance (MR) images.D(,) is the diagnostic parameter derived from the logistic *** differences were found in D(,) between the malignant benign ***'s Linear Discriminant analysis correctly classified more than 90% of the benign and malignant kinetic breast data using the derived diagnostic parameter (D(,)).Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of the derived diagnostic parameter (D(,)) indicated high sensitivity and specificity to differentiate malignancy from *** dual S-shaped logistic model was effectively used to fit the kinetic curves of breast lesions in *** between benign and malignant breast lesions was achieved with sufficient accuracy by using the derived diagnostic parameter D(,) as the lesion's *** proposed method therefore has the potential for computer-aided diagnosis in breast tumors.

novel complex composed of chitosan(CS) and neodymium(Nd ) was preparedand the ring opening polymerization of epichlorohydrin(ECH) with a new catalyticsystem comprising this new rare earth polymer complex(CS . Nd) has been suc-cessfully carried out for the first time. It has been found that the new catalytic sys-tem composed of CS . Nd-AI (i-Bui,-methyl benzoxylate( Ⅲ) is an excellent cata-lyst for the polymerization of epichlorohydrin which shows a catalytic activity 60times higher tlian that of conventional rare earth catalyst. Under the following re-action conditions : Nd - 1 ×10￣(-6) mo1/g monomer, A1/Nd= 60 molar ratio , Ⅲ/A1=-0. 6 molar ratio, the monomer conversion and PECH molecular weight are as highas 92.9% and 28. 2 × 10￣5 respectively and the polymer prepared has a low crys-tallinity. The kinetics investigation revealed that the polymerization has a short in-duction period of several minutes and the rate of polymerization is of first orderwith respect to the monomer concentration and the catalyst concentration. The acti-vation energy of the polymerization reaction was found to be 25. 5 kJ/mol which islower than that of conimon rare earth catalvst.

Calculation of disconnected quark loops in lattice QCD is very time *** noise methods are generally used to estimate these ***,stochastic estimation gives large errors in the calculations of disconnected *** use the symmetric multi-probing source(SMP)method to estimate the disconnected quark loops,and compare the results with the Z(2)noise method and the spin-color explicit(SCE)method on a quenched lattice QCD ensemble with lattice volume 12^3×24 and lattice spacing a≈0.1 *** results show that the SMP method is very suitable for the calculation of pseudoscalar disconnected quark ***,the SMP and SCE methods do not have an obvious advantage over the Z(2)noise method in the evaluation of the scalar disconnected loops.
